신명기 8

1. 내가 오늘날 명하는 모든 명령을 너희는 지켜 행하라 그리하면 너희가 살고 번성하고 여호와께서 너희의 열조에게 맹세하신 땅에 들어가서 그것을 얻으리라
  Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers.

2. 네 하나님 여호와께서 이 사십 년 동안에 너로 광야의 길을 걷게 하신 것을 기억하라 이는 너를 낮추시며 너를 시험하사 네 마음이 어떠한지 그 명령을 지키는지 아니 지키는지 알려 하심이라
  Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

3. 너를 낮추시며 너로 주리게 하시며 또 너도 알지 못하며 네 열조도 알지 못하던 만나를 네게 먹이신 것은 사람이 떡으로만 사는 것이 아니요 여호와의 입에서 나오는 모든 말씀으로 사는 줄을 너로 알게 하려 하심이니라
  He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

4. 이 사십 년 동안에 네 의복이 해어지지 아니하였고 네 발이 부릍지 아니하였느니라
  Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years.

5. 너는 사람이 그 아들을 징계함같이 네 하나님 여호와께서 너를 징계하시는 줄 마음에 생각하고
  Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the LORD your God disciplines you.

6. 네 하나님 여호와의 명령을 지켜 그 도를 행하며 그를 경외할찌니라
  Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in his ways and revering him.

7. 네 하나님 여호와께서 너로 아름다운 땅에 이르게 하시나니 그곳은 골짜기에든지 산지에든지 시내와 분천과 샘이 흐르고
  For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land--a land with streams and pools of water, with springs flowing in the valleys and hills;

8. 밀과 보리의 소산지요 포도와 무화과와 석류와 감람들의 나무와 꿀의 소산지라
  a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, olive oil and honey;

9. 너의 먹는 식물의 결핍함이 없고 네게 아무 부족함이 없는 땅이며 그 땅의 돌은 철이요 산에서는 동을 캘 것이라
  a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.

10. 네가 먹어서 배불리고 네 하나님 여호와께서 옥토로 네게 주셨음을 인하여 그를 찬송하리라
  When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you.

11. 내가 오늘날 네게 명하는 여호와의 명령과 법도와 규례를 지키지 아니하고 네 하나님 여호와를 잊어버리게 되지 않도록 삼갈찌어다
  Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.

12. 네가 먹어서 배불리고 아름다운 집을 짓고 거하게 되며
  Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down,

13. 또 네 우양이 번성하며 네 은금이 증식되며 네 소유가 다 풍부하게 될 때에
  and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied,

14. 두렵건대 네 마음이 교만하여 네 하나님 여호와를 잊어버릴까 하노라 여호와는 너를 애굽 땅 종 되었던 집에서 이끌어 내시고
  then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

15. 너를 인도하여 그 광대하고 위험한 광야 곧 불뱀과 전갈이 있고 물이 없는 간조한 땅을 지나게 하셨으며 또 너를 위하여 물을 굳은 반석에서 내셨으며
  He led you through the vast and dreadful desert, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock.

16. 네 열조도 알지 못하던 만나를 광야에서 네게 먹이셨나니 이는 다 너를 낮추시며 너를 시험하사 마침내 네게 복을 주려 하심이었느니라
  He gave you manna to eat in the desert, something your fathers had never known, to humble and to test you so that in the end it might go well with you.

17. 또 두렵건대 네가 마음에 이르기를 내 능과 내 손의 힘으로 내가 이 재물을 얻었다 할까 하노라
  You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me."

18. 네 하나님 여호와를 기억하라 그가 네게 재물 얻을 능을 주셨음이라 이같이 하심은 네 열조에게 맹세하신 언약을 오늘과 같이 이루려 하심이니라
  But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.

19. 네가 만일 네 하나님 여호와를 잊어버리고 다른 신들을 좇아 그들을 섬기며 그들에게 절하면 내가 너희에게 증거하노니 너희가 정녕히 멸망할 것이라
  If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed.

20. 여호와께서 너희의 앞에서 멸망시키신 민족들같이 너희도 멸망하리니 이는 너희가 너희 하나님 여호와의 소리를 청종치 아니함이니라
  Like the nations the LORD destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the LORD your God.

시편 91

1. 지존자의 은밀한 곳에 거하는 자는 전능하신 자의 그늘 아래 거하리로다
  He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

2. 내가 여호와를 가리켜 말하기를 저는 나의 피난처요 나의 요새요 나의 의뢰하는 하나님이라 하리니
  I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."

3. 이는 저가 너를 새 사냥군의 올무에서와 극한 염병에서 건지실 것임이로다
  Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare and from the deadly pestilence.

4. 저가 너를 그 깃으로 덮으시리니 네가 그 날개 아래 피하리로다 그의 진실함은 방패와 손 방패가 되나니
  He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

5. 너는 밤에 놀램과 낮에 흐르는 살과
  You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,

6. 흑암 중에 행하는 염병과 백주에 황폐케 하는 파멸을 두려워 아니하리로다
  nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.

7. 천인이 네 곁에서, 만인이 네 우편에서 엎드러지나 이 재앙이 네게 가까이 못하리로다
  A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

8. 오직 너는 목도하리니 악인의 보응이 네게 보이리로다
  You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.

9. 네가 말하기를 여호와는 나의 피난처시라 하고 지존자로 거처를 삼았으므로
  If you make the Most High your dwelling--even the LORD, who is my refuge--

10. 화가 네게 미치지 못하며 재앙이 네 장막에 가까이 오지 못하리니
  then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.

11. 저가 너를 위하여 그 사자들을 명하사 네 모든 길에 너를 지키게 하심이라
  For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

12. 저희가 그 손으로 너를 붙들어 발이 돌에 부딪히지 않게 하리로다
  they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

13. 네가 사자와 독사를 밟으며 젊은 사자와 뱀을 발로 누르리로다
  You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14. 하나님이 가라사대 저가 나를 사랑한즉 내가 저를 건지리라 저가 내 이름을 안즉 내가 저를 높이리라
  "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

15. 저가 내게 간구하리니 내가 응답하리라 저희 환난 때에 내가 저와 함께 하여 저를 건지고 영화롭게 하리라
  He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.

16. 내가 장수함으로 저를 만족케 하며 나의 구원으로 보이리라 하시도다
  With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."

■ 혼자 읽기

이사야 36

1. 히스기야 왕 십사 년에 앗수르 왕 산헤립이 올라와서 유다 모든 견고한 성을 쳐서 취하니라
  In the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah's reign, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.

2. 앗수르 왕이 라기스에서부터 랍사게를 예루살렘으로 보내되 대군을 거느리고 히스기야 왕에게로 가게 하매 그가 세탁업자의 터의 대로 윗못 수도구 곁에 서매
  Then the king of Assyria sent his field commander with a large army from Lachish to King Hezekiah at Jerusalem. When the commander stopped at the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Washerman's Field,

3. 힐기야의 아들 궁내대신 엘리아김과 서기관 셉나와 아삽의 아들 사관 요아가 그에게 나아가니라
  Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder went out to him.

4. 랍사게가 그들에게 이르되 이제 히스기야에게 고하라 대왕 앗수르 왕이 이같이 말씀하시기를 네가 의뢰하니 무엇을 의뢰하느냐
  The field commander said to them, "Tell Hezekiah, "'This is what the great king, the king of Assyria, says: On what are you basing this confidence of yours?

5. 내가 말하노니 네가 족히 싸울 모략과 용맹이 있노라 함은 입술에 붙은 말뿐이니라 네가 이제 누구를 의뢰하고 나를 반역하느냐
  You say you have strategy and military strength--but you speak only empty words. On whom are you depending, that you rebel against me?

6. 보라 네가 애굽을 의뢰하도다 그것은 상한 갈대 지팡이와 일반이라 사람이 그것을 의지하면 손에 찔려 들어가리니 애굽 왕 바로는 그 의뢰하는 자에게 이와 같으니라
  Look now, you are depending on Egypt, that splintered reed of a staff, which pierces a man's hand and wounds him if he leans on it! Such is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who depend on him.

7. 혹시 네가 내게 이르기를 우리는 우리 하나님 여호와를 의뢰하노라 하리라마는 그는 그의 산당과 제단을 히스기야가 제하여 버리고 유다와 예루살렘에 명하기를 너희는 이 제단 앞에서만 경배하라 하던 그 신이 아니냐 하셨느니라
  And if you say to me, "We are depending on the LORD our God"--isn't he the one whose high places and altars Hezekiah removed, saying to Judah and Jerusalem, "You must worship before this altar"?

8. 그러므로 이제 청하노니 내 주 앗수르 왕과 내기하라 나는 네게 말 이천 필을 주어도 너는 그 탈 자를 능히 내지 못하리라
  "'Come now, make a bargain with my master, the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses--if you can put riders on them!

9. 그런즉 네가 어찌 내 주의 종 가운데 극히 작은 장관 한 사람인들 물리칠 수 있으랴 어찌 애굽을 의뢰하여 병거와 기병을 얻으려 하느냐
  How then can you repulse one officer of the least of my master's officials, even though you are depending on Egypt for chariots and horsemen?

10. 내가 이제 올라와서 이 땅을 멸하는 것이 여호와의 뜻이 없음이겠느냐 여호와께서 내게 이르시기를 올라가 그 땅을 쳐서 멸하라 하셨느니라
  Furthermore, have I come to attack and destroy this land without the LORD? The LORD himself told me to march against this country and destroy it.'"

11. 이에 엘리아김과 셉나와 요아가 랍사게에게 이르되 우리가 아람 방언을 아오니 청컨대 그 방언으로 당신의 종들에게 말씀하고 성 위에 있는 백성의 듣는 데서 유다 방언으로 말하지 마소서
  Then Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to the field commander, "Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, since we understand it. Don't speak to us in Hebrew in the hearing of the people on the wall."

12. 랍사게가 가로되 내 주께서 이 일을 네 주와 네게만 말하라고 나를 보내신 것이냐 너희와 함께 자기의 대변을 먹으며 자기의 소변을 마실 성 위에 앉은 사람들에게도 하라고 보내신 것이 아니냐
  But the commander replied, "Was it only to your master and you that my master sent me to say these things, and not to the men sitting on the wall--who, like you, will have to eat their own filth and drink their own urine?"

13. 이에 랍사게가 일어서서 유다 방언으로 크게 외쳐 가로되 너희는 대왕 앗수르 왕의 말씀을 들으라
  Then the commander stood and called out in Hebrew, "Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria!

14. 왕의 말씀에 너희는 히스기야에게 미혹되지 말라 그가 능히 너희를 건지지 못할 것이니라
  This is what the king says: Do not let Hezekiah deceive you. He cannot deliver you!

15. 히스기야가 너희로 여호와를 의뢰하게 하려는 것을 받지 말라 그가 말하기를 여호와께서 반드시 우리를 건지시리니 이 성이 앗수르 왕의 손에 붙임이 되지 아니하리라 할찌라도
  Do not let Hezekiah persuade you to trust in the LORD when he says, 'The LORD will surely deliver us; this city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.'

16. 히스기야를 청종치 말라 앗수르 왕이 또 말씀하시기를 너희는 내게 항복하고 내게로 나아오라 그리하면 너희가 각각 자기의 포도와 자기의 무화과를 먹을 것이며 각각 자기의 우물 물을 마실 것이요
  "Do not listen to Hezekiah. This is what the king of Assyria says: Make peace with me and come out to me. Then every one of you will eat from his own vine and fig tree and drink water from his own cistern,

17. 내가 와서 너희를 너희 본토와 같이 곡식과 포도주와 떡과 포도원이 있는 땅에 옮기기까지 하리라
  until I come and take you to a land like your own--a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.

18. 혹시 히스기야가 너희에게 이르기를 여호와께서 우리를 건지시리라 할찌라도 꾀임을 받지 말라 열국의 신들 중에 그 땅을 앗수르왕의 손에서 건진 자가 있느냐
  "Do not let Hezekiah mislead you when he says, 'The LORD will deliver us.' Has the god of any nation ever delivered his land from the hand of the king of Assyria?

19. 하맛과 아르밧의 신들이 어디 있느냐 스발와임의 신들이 어디 있느냐 그들이 사마리아를 내 손에서 건졌느냐
  Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they rescued Samaria from my hand?

20. 이 열방의 신들 중에 어떤 신이 그 나라를 내 손에서 건져내었기에 여호와가 능히 예루살렘을 내 손에서 건지겠느냐 하셨느니라
  Who of all the gods of these countries has been able to save his land from me? How then can the LORD deliver Jerusalem from my hand?"

21. 그러나 그들이 잠잠하여 한 말도 대답지 아니하였으니 이는 왕이 그들에게 명하여 대답지 말라 하였음이었더라
  But the people remained silent and said nothing in reply, because the king had commanded, "Do not answer him."

22. 때에 힐기야의 아들 궁내대신 엘리아김과 서기관 셉나와 아삽의 아들 사관 요아가 그 옷을 찢고 히스기야에게 나아가서 랍사게의 말을 고하니라
  Then Eliakim son of Hilkiah the palace administrator, Shebna the secretary, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder went to Hezekiah, with their clothes torn, and told him what the field commander had said.

요한계시록 6

1. 내가 보매 어린 양이 일곱 인 중에 하나를 떼시는 그 때에 내가 들으니 네 생물 중에 하나가 우뢰 소리같이 말하되 오라 하기로
  I watched as the Lamb opened the first of the seven seals. Then I heard one of the four living creatures say in a voice like thunder, "Come!"

2. 내가 이에 보니 흰 말이 있는데 그 탄 자가 활을 가졌고 면류관을 받고 나가서 이기고 또 이기려고 하더라
  I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.

3. 둘째 인을 떼실 때에 내가 들으니 둘째 생물이 말하되 오라 하더니
  When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, "Come!"

4. 이에 붉은 다른 말이 나오더라 그 탄 자가 허락을 받아 땅에서 화평을 제하여 버리며 서로 죽이게 하고 또 큰 칼을 받았더라
  Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a large sword.

5. 세째 인을 떼실 때에 내가 들으니 세째 생물이 말하되 오라 하기로 내가 보니 검은 말이 나오는데 그 탄 자가 손에 저울을 가졌더라
  When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider was holding a pair of scales in his hand.

6. 내가 네 생물 사이로서 나는 듯하는 음성을 들으니 가로되 한 데나리온에 밀 한 되요 한 데나리온에 보리 석 되로다 또 감람유와 포도주는 해치 말라 하더라
  Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"

7. 네째 인을 떼실 때에 내가 네째 생물의 음성을 들으니 가로되 오라 하기로
  When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, "Come!"

8. 내가 보매 청황색 말이 나오는데 그 탄 자의 이름은 사망이니 음부가 그 뒤를 따르더라 저희가 땅 사분 일의 권세를 얻어 검과 흉년과 사망과 땅의 짐승으로써 죽이더라
  I looked, and there before me was a pale horse! Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.

9. 다섯째 인을 떼실 때에 내가 보니 하나님의 말씀과 저희의 가진 증거를 인하여 죽임을 당한 영혼들이 제단 아래 있어
  When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained.

10. 큰 소리로 불러 가로되 거룩하고 참되신 대주재여 땅에 거하는 자들을 심판하여 우리 피를 신원하여 주지 아니하시기를 어느 때까지 하시려나이까 하니
  They called out in a loud voice, "How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?"

11. 각각 저희에게 흰 두루마기를 주시며 가라사대 아직 잠시 동안 쉬되 저희 동무 종들과 형제들도 자기처럼 죽임을 받아 그 수가 차기까지 하라 하시더라
  Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and brothers who were to be killed as they had been was completed.

12. 내가 보니 여섯째 인을 떼실 때에 큰 지진이 나며 해가 총담같이 검어지고 온 달이 피같이 되며
  I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red,

13. 하늘의 별들이 무화과나무가 대풍에 흔들려 선과실이 떨어지는 것같이 땅에 떨어지며
  and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind.

14. 하늘은 종이 축이 말리는 것같이 떠나가고 각 산과 섬이 제 자리에서 옮기우매
  The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.

15. 땅의 임금들과 왕족들과 장군들과 부자들과 강한 자들과 각 종과 자주자가 굴과 산 바위 틈에 숨어
  Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains.

16. 산과 바위에게 이르되 우리 위에 떨어져 보좌에 앉으신 이의 낯에서와 어린 양의 진노에서 우리를 가리우라
  They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb!

17. 그들의 진노의 큰 날이 이르렀으니 누가 능히 서리요 하더라
  For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?"
