민수기 22

1. 이스라엘 자손이 또 진행하여 모압 평지에 진쳤으니 요단 건너편 곧 여리고 맞은편이더라
  Then the Israelites traveled to the plains of Moab and camped along the Jordan across from Jericho.

2. 십볼의 아들 발락이 이스라엘이 아모리인에게 행한 모든 일을 보았으므로
  Now Balak son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites,

3. 모압이 심히 두려워하였으니 이스라엘 백성의 많음을 인함이라 모압이 이스라엘 자손의 연고로 번민하여
  and Moab was terrified because there were so many people. Indeed, Moab was filled with dread because of the Israelites.

4. 미디안 장로들에게 이르되 이제 이 무리가 소가 밭의 풀을 뜯어먹음같이 우리 사면에 있는 것을 다 뜯어먹으리로다 하니 때에 십볼의 아들 발락이 모압 왕이었더라
  The Moabites said to the elders of Midian, "This horde is going to lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field." So Balak son of Zippor, who was king of Moab at that time,

5. 그가 사자를 브올의 아들 발람의 본향 강변 브돌에 보내어 발람을 부르게 하여 가로되 보라 한 민족이 애굽에서 나왔는데 그들이 지면에 덮여서 우리 맞은편에 거하였고
  sent messengers to summon Balaam son of Beor, who was at Pethor, near the River, in his native land. Balak said: "A people has come out of Egypt; they cover the face of the land and have settled next to me.

6. 우리보다 강하니 청컨대 와서 나를 위하여 이 백성을 저주하라 내가 혹 쳐서 이기어 이 땅에서 몰아내리라 그대가 복을 비는 자는 복을 받고 저주하는 자는 저주를 받을 줄을 내가 앎이니라
  Now come and put a curse on these people, because they are too powerful for me. Perhaps then I will be able to defeat them and drive them out of the country. For I know that those you bless are blessed, and those you curse are cursed."

7. 모압 장로들과 미디안 장로들이 손에 복술의 예물을 가지고 떠나 발람에게 이르러 발락의 말로 그에게 고하매
  The elders of Moab and Midian left, taking with them the fee for divination. When they came to Balaam, they told him what Balak had said.

8. 발람이 그들에게 이르되 이 밤에 여기서 유숙하라 여호와께서 내게 이르시는 대로 너희에게 대답하리라 모압 귀족들이 발람에게서 유하니라
  "Spend the night here," Balaam said to them, "and I will bring you back the answer the LORD gives me." So the Moabite princes stayed with him.

9. 하나님이 발람에게 임하여 가라사대 너와 함께한 이 사람들이 누구냐
  God came to Balaam and asked, "Who are these men with you?"

10. 발람이 하나님께 고하되 모압 왕 십볼의 아들 발락이 내게 보낸 자라 이르기를
  Balaam said to God, "Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, sent me this message:

11. 보라 애굽에서 나온 민족이 있어 지면에 덮였으니 이제 와서 나를 위하여 그들을 저주하라 내가 혹 그들을 쳐서 몰아낼 수 있으리라 하나이다
  'A people that has come out of Egypt covers the face of the land. Now come and put a curse on them for me. Perhaps then I will be able to fight them and drive them away.'"

12. 하나님이 발람에게 이르시되 너는 그들과 함께 가지도 말고 그 백성을 저주하지도 말라 그들은 복을 받은 자니라
  But God said to Balaam, "Do not go with them. You must not put a curse on those people, because they are blessed."

13. 발람이 아침에 일어나서 발락의 귀족들에게 이르되 너희는 너희의 땅으로 돌아가라 내가 너희와 함께 가기를 여호와께서 허락지 아니하시느니라
  The next morning Balaam got up and said to Balak's princes, "Go back to your own country, for the LORD has refused to let me go with you."

14. 모압 귀족들이 일어나 발락에게로 가서 고하되 발람이 우리와 함께 오기를 거절하더이다
  So the Moabite princes returned to Balak and said, "Balaam refused to come with us."

15. 발락이 다시 그들보다 더 높은 귀족들을 더 많이 보내매
  Then Balak sent other princes, more numerous and more distinguished than the first.

16. 그들이 발람에게로 나아가서 그에게 이르되 십볼의 아들 발락의 말씀에 청컨대 아무것에도 거리끼지 말고 내게로 오라
  They came to Balaam and said: "This is what Balak son of Zippor says: Do not let anything keep you from coming to me,

17. 내가 그대를 높여 크게 존귀케 하고 그대가 내게 말하는 것은 무엇이든지 시행하리니 청컨대 와서 나를 위하여 이 백성을 저주하라 하시더이다
  because I will reward you handsomely and do whatever you say. Come and put a curse on these people for me."

18. 발람이 발락의 신하들에게 대답하여 가로되 발락이 그 집에 은, 금을 가득히 채워서 내게 줄찌라도 내가 능히 여호와 내 하나님의 말씀을 어기어 덜하거나 더하지 못하겠노라
  But Balaam answered them, "Even if Balak gave me his palace filled with silver and gold, I could not do anything great or small to go beyond the command of the LORD my God.

19. 그런즉 이제 너희도 이 밤에 여기서 유하라 여호와께서 내게 무슨 말씀을 더 하실는지 알아보리라
  Now stay here tonight as the others did, and I will find out what else the LORD will tell me."

20. 밤에 하나님이 발람에게 임하여 이르시되 그 사람들이 너를 부르러 왔거든 일어나 함께 가라 그러나 내가 네게 이르는 말만 준행 할찌니라
  That night God came to Balaam and said, "Since these men have come to summon you, go with them, but do only what I tell you."

21. 발람이 아침에 일어나서 자기 나귀에 안장을 지우고 모압 귀족들과 함께 행하니
  Balaam got up in the morning, saddled his donkey and went with the princes of Moab.

22. 그가 행함을 인하여 하나님이 진노하심으로 여호와의 사자가 그를 막으려고 길에 서니라 발람은 자기 나귀를 타고 그 두 종은 그와 함께 있더니
  But God was very angry when he went, and the angel of the LORD stood in the road to oppose him. Balaam was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.

23. 나귀가 여호와의 사자가 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 길에 선 것을 보고 길에서 떠나 밭으로 들어간지라 발람이 나귀를 길로 돌이키려고 채찍질하니
  When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with a drawn sword in his hand, she turned off the road into a field. Balaam beat her to get her back on the road.

24. 여호와의 사자는 포도원 사이 좁은 길에 섰고 좌우에는 담이 있더라
  Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path between two vineyards, with walls on both sides.

25. 나귀가 여호와의 사자를 보고 몸을 담에 대고 발람의 발을 그 담에 비비어 상하게 하매 발람이 다시 채찍질하니
  When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she pressed close to the wall, crushing Balaam's foot against it. So he beat her again.

26. 여호와의 사자가 더 나아가서 좌우로 피할 데 없는 좁은 곳에 선지라
  Then the angel of the LORD moved on ahead and stood in a narrow place where there was no room to turn, either to the right or to the left.

27. 나귀가 여호와의 사자를 보고 발람의 밑에 엎드리니 발람이 노하여 자기 지팡이로 나귀를 때리는지라
  When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam, and he was angry and beat her with his staff.

28. 여호와께서 나귀 입을 여시니 발람에게 이르되 내가 네게 무엇을 하였기에 나를 이같이 세 번을 때리느뇨
  Then the LORD opened the donkey's mouth, and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?"

29. 발람이 나귀에게 말하되 네가 나를 거역하는 연고니 내 손에 칼이 있었더면 곧 너를 죽였으리라
  Balaam answered the donkey, "You have made a fool of me! If I had a sword in my hand, I would kill you right now."

30. 나귀가 발람에게 이르되 나는 네가 오늘까지 네 일생에 타는 나귀가 아니냐 내가 언제든지 네게 이같이 하는 행습이 있더냐 가로되 없었느니라
  The donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your own donkey, which you have always ridden, to this day? Have I been in the habit of doing this to you?" "No," he said.

31. 때에 여호와께서 발람의 눈을 밝히시매 여호와의 사자가 손에 칼을 빼어 들고 길에 선 것을 보고 머리를 숙이고 엎드리니
  Then the LORD opened Balaam's eyes, and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the road with his sword drawn. So he bowed low and fell facedown.

32. 여호와의 사자가 그에게 이르되 너는 어찌하여 네 나귀를 이같이 세 번 때렸느냐 보라 네 길이 내 앞에 패역하므로 내가 너를 막으려고 나왔더니
  The angel of the LORD asked him, "Why have you beaten your donkey these three times? I have come here to oppose you because your path is a reckless one before me.

33. 나귀가 나를 보고 이같이 세 번을 돌이켜 내 앞에서 피하였느니라 나귀가 만일 돌이켜 나를 피하지 아니하였더면 내가 벌써 너를 죽이고 나귀는 살렸으리라
  The donkey saw me and turned away from me these three times. If she had not turned away, I would certainly have killed you by now, but I would have spared her."

34. 발람이 여호와의 사자에게 말씀하되 내가 범죄하였나이다 당신이 나를 막으려고 길에 서신 줄을 내가 알지 못하였나이다 당신이 이를 기뻐하지 아니하시면 나는 돌아가겠나이다
  Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, "I have sinned. I did not realize you were standing in the road to oppose me. Now if you are displeased, I will go back."

35. 여호와의 사자가 발람에게 이르되 그 사람들과 함께 가라 내가 네게 이르는 말만 말할찌니라 발람이 발락의 귀족들과 함께 가니라
  The angel of the LORD said to Balaam, "Go with the men, but speak only what I tell you." So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

36. 발락이 발람의 온다 함을 듣고 모압 변경의 끝 아르논 가에 있는 성읍까지 가서 그를 영접하고
  When Balak heard that Balaam was coming, he went out to meet him at the Moabite town on the Arnon border, at the edge of his territory.

37. 발락이 발람에게 이르되 내가 특별히 보내어 그대를 부르지 아니하였느냐 그대가 어찌 내게 오지 아니하였느냐 내가 어찌 그대를 높여 존귀케 하지 못하겠느냐
  Balak said to Balaam, "Did I not send you an urgent summons? Why didn't you come to me? Am I really not able to reward you?"

38. 발람이 발락에게 이르되 내가 오기는 하였으나 무엇을 임의로 말할 수 있으리이까 하나님이 내 입에 주시는 말씀 그것을 말할 뿐이니이다
  "Well, I have come to you now," Balaam replied. "But can I say just anything? I must speak only what God puts in my mouth."

39. 발람이 발락과 동행하여 기럇후솟에 이르러서는
  Then Balaam went with Balak to Kiriath Huzoth.

40. 발락이 우양을 잡아 발람과 그와 함께한 귀족을 대접하였더라
  Balak sacrificed cattle and sheep, and gave some to Balaam and the princes who were with him.

41. 아침에 발락이 발람과 함께 하고 그를 인도하여 바알의 산당에 오르매 발람이 거기서 이스라엘 백성의 진 끝까지 보니라
  The next morning Balak took Balaam up to Bamoth Baal, and from there he saw part of the people.

시편 62-63

1. 나의 영혼이 잠잠히 하나님만 바람이여 나의 구원이 그에게서 나는도다
  For the director of music. For Jeduthun. A psalm of David. My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him.

2. 오직 저만 나의 반석이시요 나의 구원이시요 나의 산성이시니 내가 크게 요동치 아니하리로다
  He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

3. 넘어지는 담과 흔들리는 울타리 같은 사람을 죽이려고 너희가 일제히 박격하기를 언제까지 하려느냐
  How long will you assault a man? Would all of you throw him down--this leaning wall, this tottering fence?

4. 저희가 그를 그 높은 위에서 떨어뜨리기만 꾀하고 거짓을 즐겨하니 입으로는 축복이요 속으로는 저주로다 (셀라)
  They fully intend to topple him from his lofty place; they take delight in lies. With their mouths they bless, but in their hearts they curse. Selah

5. 나의 영혼아 잠잠히 하나님만 바라라 대저 나의 소망이 저로 좇아 나는도다
  Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him.

6. 오직 저만 나의 반석이시요 나의 구원이시요 나의 산성이시니 내가 요동치 아니하리로다
  He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.

7. 나의 구원과 영광이 하나님께 있음이여 내 힘의 반석과 피난처도 하나님께 있도다
  My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge.

8. 백성들아 시시로 저를 의지하고 그 앞에 마음을 토하라 하나님은 우리의 피난처시로다 (셀라)
  Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. Selah

9. 진실로 천한 자도 헛되고 높은 자도 거짓되니 저울에 달면 들려 입김보다 경하리로다
  Lowborn men are but a breath, the highborn are but a lie; if weighed on a balance, they are nothing; together they are only a breath.

10. 포학을 의지하지 말며 탈취한 것으로 허망하여지지 말며 재물이 늘어도 거기 치심치 말찌어다
  Do not trust in extortion or take pride in stolen goods; though your riches increase, do not set your heart on them.

11. 하나님이 한두 번 하신 말씀을 내가 들었나니 권능은 하나님께 속하였다 하셨도다
  One thing God has spoken, two things have I heard: that you, O God, are strong,

12. 주여 인자함도 주께 속하였사오니 주께서 각 사람이 행한 대로 갚으심이니이다
  and that you, O Lord, are loving. Surely you will reward each person according to what he has done.

1. 하나님이여 주는 나의 하나님이시라 내가 간절히 주를 찾되 물이 없어 마르고 곤핍한 땅에서 내 영혼이 주를 갈망하며 내 육체가 주를 앙모하나이다
  A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah. O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

2. 내가 주의 권능과 영광을 보려 하여 이와 같이 성소에서 주를 바라보았나이다
  I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.

3. 주의 인자가 생명보다 나으므로 내 입술이 주를 찬양할 것이라
  Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you.

4. 이러므로 내 평생에 주를 송축하며 주의 이름으로 인하여 내 손을 들리이다
  I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.

5. 골수와 기름진 것을 먹음과 같이 내 영혼이 만족할 것이라 내 입이 기쁜 입술로 주를 찬송하되
  My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

6. 내가 나의 침상에서 주를 기억하며 밤중에 주를 묵상할 때에 하오리니
  On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.

7. 주는 나의 도움이 되셨음이라 내가 주의 날개 그늘에서 즐거이 부르리이다
  Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings.

8. 나의 영혼이 주를 가까이 따르니 주의 오른손이 나를 붙드시거니와
  My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

9. 나의 영혼을 찾아 멸하려 하는 저희는 땅 깊은 곳에 들어가며
  They who seek my life will be destroyed; they will go down to the depths of the earth.

10. 칼의 세력에 붙인 바 되어 시랑의 밥이 되리이다
  They will be given over to the sword and become food for jackals.

11. 왕은 하나님을 즐거워하리니 주로 맹세한 자마다 자랑할 것이나 거짓말하는 자의 입은 막히리로다
  But the king will rejoice in God; all who swear by God's name will praise him, while the mouths of liars will be silenced.

■ 혼자 읽기

이사야 11-12

1. 이새의 줄기에서 한 싹이 나며 그 뿌리에서 한 가지가 나서 결실할 것이요
  A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

2. 여호와의 신 곧 지혜와 총명의 신이요 모략과 재능의 신이요 지식과 여호와를 경외하는 신이 그 위에 강림하시리니
  The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him--the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD--

3. 그가 여호와를 경외함으로 즐거움을 삼을 것이며 그 눈에 보이는 대로 심판치 아니하며 귀에 들리는 대로 판단치 아니하며
  and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;

4. 공의로 빈핍한 자를 심판하며 정직으로 세상의 겸손한 자를 판단할 것이며 그 입의 막대기로 세상을 치며 입술의 기운으로 악인을 죽일 것이며
  but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.

5. 공의로 그 허리띠를 삼으며 성실로 몸의 띠를 삼으리라
  Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

6. 그 때에 이리가 어린 양과 함께 거하며 표범이 어린 염소와 함께 누우며 송아지와 어린 사자와 살찐 짐승이 함께 있어 어린 아이에게 끌리며
  The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them.

7. 암소와 곰이 함께 먹으며 그것들의 새끼가 함께 엎드리며 사자가 소처럼 풀을 먹을 것이며
  The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.

8. 젖 먹는 아이가 독사의 구멍에서 장난하며 젖 뗀 어린아이가 독사의 굴에 손을 넣을 것이라
  The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest.

9. 나의 거룩한 산 모든 곳에서 해됨도 없고 상함도 없을 것이니 이는 물이 바다를 덮음같이 여호와를 아는 지식이 세상에 충만할 것임이니라
  They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

10. 그 날에 이새의 뿌리에서 한 싹이 나서 만민의 기호로 설 것이요 열방이 그에게로 돌아오리니 그 거한 곳이 영화로우리라
  In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious.

11. 그 날에 주께서 다시 손을 펴사 그 남은 백성을 앗수르와 애굽과 바드로스와 구스와 엘람과 시날과 하맛과 바다 섬들에서 돌아오게 하실 것이라
  In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time to reclaim the remnant that is left of his people from Assyria, from Lower Egypt, from Upper Egypt, from Cush, from Elam, from Babylonia, from Hamath and from the islands of the sea.

12. 여호와께서 열방을 향하여 기호를 세우시고 이스라엘의 쫓긴 자를 모으시며 땅 사방에서 유다의 이산한 자를 모으시리니
  He will raise a banner for the nations and gather the exiles of Israel; he will assemble the scattered people of Judah from the four quarters of the earth.

13. 에브라임의 투기는 없어지고 유다를 괴롭게 하던 자는 끊어지며 에브라임은 유다를 투기하지 아니하며 유다는 에브라임을 괴롭게 하지 아니할 것이요
  Ephraim's jealousy will vanish, and Judah's enemies will be cut off; Ephraim will not be jealous of Judah, nor Judah hostile toward Ephraim.

14. 그들이 서쪽으로 블레셋 사람의 어깨에 날아 앉고 함께 동방 백성을 노략하며 에돔과 모압에 손을 대며 암몬 자손을 자기에게 복종시키리라
  They will swoop down on the slopes of Philistia to the west; together they will plunder the people to the east. They will lay hands on Edom and Moab, and the Ammonites will be subject to them.

15. 여호와께서 애굽 해고를 말리우시고 손을 유브라데 하수 위에 흔들어 뜨거운 바람을 일으켜서 그 하수를 쳐서 일곱 갈래로 나눠 신 신고 건너가게 하실 것이라
  The LORD will dry up the gulf of the Egyptian sea; with a scorching wind he will sweep his hand over the Euphrates River. He will break it up into seven streams so that men can cross over in sandals.

16. 그의 남아 있는 백성을 위하여 앗수르에서부터 돌아오는 대로가 있게 하시되 이스라엘이 애굽 땅에서 나오던 날과 같게 하시리라
  There will be a highway for the remnant of his people that is left from Assyria, as there was for Israel when they came up from Egypt.

1. 그 날에 네가 말하기를 여호와여 주께서 전에는 내게 노하셨사오나 이제는 그 노가 쉬었고 또 나를 안위하시오니 내가 주께 감사하겠나이다 할 것이니라
  In that day you will say: "I will praise you, O LORD. Although you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you have comforted me.

2. 보라 하나님은 나의 구원이시라 내가 의뢰하고 두려움이 없으리니 주 여호와는 나의 힘이시며 나의 노래시며 나의 구원이심이라
  Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation."

3. 그러므로 너희가 기쁨으로 구원의 우물들에서 물을 길으리로다
  With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

4. 그 날에 너희가 또 말하기를 여호와께 감사하라 그 이름을 부르며 그 행하심을 만국 중에 선포하며 그 이름이 높다 하라
  In that day you will say: "Give thanks to the LORD, call on his name; make known among the nations what he has done, and proclaim that his name is exalted.

5. 여호와를 찬송할 것은 극히 아름다운 일을 하셨음이니 온 세계에 알게 할찌어다
  Sing to the LORD, for he has done glorious things; let this be known to all the world.

6. 시온의 거민아 소리를 높여 부르라 이스라엘의 거룩하신 자가 너희 중에서 크심이니라 할 것이니라
  Shout aloud and sing for joy, people of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you."

야고보서 5

1. 들으라 부한 자들아 너희에게 임할 고생을 인하여 울고 통곡하라
  Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming upon you.

2. 너희 재물은 썩었고 너희 옷은 좀먹었으며
  Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes.

3. 너희 금과 은은 녹이 슬었으니 이 녹이 너희에게 증거가 되며 불같이 너희 살을 먹으리라 너희가 말세에 재물을 쌓았도다
  Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.

4. 보라 너희 밭에 추수한 품군에게 주지 아니한 삯이 소리 지르며 추수한 자의 우는 소리가 만군의 주의 귀에 들렸느니라
  Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty.

5. 너희가 땅에서 사치하고 연락하여 도살의 날에 너희 마음을 살지게 하였도다
  You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter.

6. 너희가 옳은 자를 정죄하였도다 또 죽였도다 그는 너희에게 대항하지 아니하였느니라
  You have condemned and murdered innocent men, who were not opposing you.

7. 그러므로 형제들아 주의 강림하시기까지 길이 참으라 보라 농부가 땅에서 나는 귀한 열매를 바라고 길이 참아 이른 비와 늦은 비를 기다리나니
  Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains.

8. 너희도 길이 참고 마음을 굳게 하라 주의 강림이 가까우니라
  You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near.

9. 형제들아 서로 원망하지 말라 그리하여야 심판을 면하리라 보라 심판자가 문 밖에 서 계시니라
  Don't grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!

10. 형제들아 주의 이름으로 말한 선지자들로 고난과 오래 참음의 본을 삼으라
  Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

11. 보라 인내하는 자를 우리가 복되다 하나니 너희가 욥의 인내를 들었고 주께서 주신 결말을 보았거니와 주는 가장 자비하시고 긍휼히 여기는 자시니라
  As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.

12. 내 형제들아 무엇보다도 맹세하지 말찌니 하늘로나 땅으로나 아무 다른 것으로도 맹세하지 말고 오직 너희의 그렇다 하는 것은 그렇다 하고 아니라 하는 것은 아니라 하여 죄 정함을 면하라
  Above all, my brothers, do not swear--not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned.

13. 너희 중에 고난 당하는 자가 있느냐 저는 기도할 것이요 즐거워하는 자가 있느냐 저는 찬송할찌니라
  Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.

14. 너희 중에 병든 자가 있느냐 저는 교회의 장로들을 청할 것이요 그들은 주의 이름으로 기름을 바르며 위하여 기도할찌니라
  Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.

15. 믿음의 기도는 병든 자를 구원하리니 주께서 저를 일으키시리라 혹시 죄를 범하였을찌라도 사하심을 얻으리라
  And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.

16. 이러므로 너희 죄를 서로 고하며 병 낫기를 위하여 서로 기도하라 의인의 간구는 역사하는 힘이 많으니라
  Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

17. 엘리야는 우리와 성정이 같은 사람이로되 저가 비 오지 않기를 간절히 기도한즉 삼 년 육 개월 동안 땅에 비가 아니 오고
  Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years.

18. 다시 기도한즉 하늘이 비를 주고 땅이 열매를 내었느니라
  Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.

19. 내 형제들아 너희 중에 미혹하여 진리를 떠난 자를 누가 돌아서게 하면
  My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back,

20. 너희가 알 것은 죄인을 미혹한 길에서 돌아서게 하는 자가 그 영혼을 사망에서 구원하며 허다한 죄를 덮을 것이니라
  remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
