민수기 20

1. 정월에 이스라엘 자손 곧 온 회중이 신 광야에 이르러서 백성이 가데스에 거하더니 미리암이 거기서 죽으매 거기 장사하니라
  In the first month the whole Israelite community arrived at the Desert of Zin, and they stayed at Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried.

2. 회중이 물이 없으므로 모여서 모세와 아론을 공박하니라
  Now there was no water for the community, and the people gathered in opposition to Moses and Aaron.

3. 백성이 모세와 다투어 말하여 가로되 우리 형제들이 여호와 앞에서 죽을 때에 우리도 죽었더면 좋을 뻔하였도다
  They quarreled with Moses and said, "If only we had died when our brothers fell dead before the LORD!

4. 너희가 어찌하여 여호와의 총회를 이 광야로 인도하여 올려서 우리와 우리 짐승으로 다 여기서 죽게 하느냐
  Why did you bring the LORD'S community into this desert, that we and our livestock should die here?

5. 너희가 어찌하여 우리를 애굽에서 나오게 하여 이 악한 곳으로 인도하였느냐 이 곳에는 파종할 곳이 없고 무화과도 없고 포도도 없고 석류도 없고 마실 물도 없도다
  Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to this terrible place? It has no grain or figs, grapevines or pomegranates. And there is no water to drink!"

6. 모세와 아론이 총회 앞을 떠나 회막문에 이르러 엎드리매 여호와의 영광이 그들에게 나타나며
  Moses and Aaron went from the assembly to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting and fell facedown, and the glory of the LORD appeared to them.

7. 여호와께서 모세에게 일러 가라사대
  The LORD said to Moses,

8. 지팡이를 가지고 네 형 아론과 함께 회중을 모으고 그들의 목전에서 너희는 반석에게 명하여 물을 내라 하라 네가 그 반석으로 물을 내게 하여 회중과 그들의 짐승에게 마시울찌니라
  "Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink."

9. 모세가 그 명대로 여호와의 앞에서 지팡이를 취하니라
  So Moses took the staff from the LORD'S presence, just as he commanded him.

10. 모세와 아론이 총회를 그 반석 앞에 모으고 모세가 그들에게 이르되 패역한 너희여 들으라 우리가 너희를 위하여 이 반석에서 물을 내랴 하고
  He and Aaron gathered the assembly together in front of the rock and Moses said to them, "Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?"

11. 그 손을 들어 그 지팡이로 반석을 두 번 치매 물이 많이 솟아 나오므로 회중과 그들의 짐승이 마시니라
  Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.

12. 여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 이르시되 너희가 나를 믿지 아니하고 이스라엘 자손의 목전에 나의 거룩함을 나타내지 아니한 고로 너희는 이 총회를 내가 그들에게 준 땅으로 인도하여 들이지 못하리라 하시니라
  But the LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them."

13. 이스라엘 자손이 여호와와 다투었으므로 이를 므리바 물이라 하니라 여호와께서 그들 중에서 그 거룩함을 나타내셨더라
  These were the waters of Meribah, where the Israelites quarreled with the LORD and where he showed himself holy among them.

14. 모세가 가데스에서 에돔 왕에게 사자를 보내며 이르되 당신의 형제 이스라엘의 말에 우리의 당한 모든 고난을 당신도 아시거니와
  Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, saying: "This is what your brother Israel says: You know about all the hardships that have come upon us.

15. 우리 열조가 애굽으로 내려갔으므로 우리가 애굽에 오래 거하였더니 애굽인이 우리 열조와 우리를 학대하였으므로
  Our forefathers went down into Egypt, and we lived there many years. The Egyptians mistreated us and our fathers,

16. 우리가 여호와께 부르짖었더니 우리 소리를 들으시고 천사를 보내사 우리를 애굽에서 인도하여 내셨나이다 이제 우리가 당신의 변방 모퉁이 한 성읍 가데스에 있사오니
  but when we cried out to the LORD, he heard our cry and sent an angel and brought us out of Egypt. "Now we are here at Kadesh, a town on the edge of your territory.

17. 청컨대 우리로 당신의 땅을 통과하게 하소서 우리가 밭으로나 포도원으로나 통과하지 아니하고 우물 물도 공히 마시지 아니하고 우리가 왕의 대로로만 통과하고 당신의 지경에서 나가기까지 좌편으로나 우편으로나 치우치지 아니하리이다 한다 하라 하였더니
  Please let us pass through your country. We will not go through any field or vineyard, or drink water from any well. We will travel along the king's highway and not turn to the right or to the left until we have passed through your territory."

18. 에돔 왕이 대답하되 너는 우리 가운데로 통과하지 못하리라 내가 나가서 칼로 너를 맞을까 염려하라
  But Edom answered: "You may not pass through here; if you try, we will march out and attack you with the sword."

19. 이스라엘 자손이 이르되 우리가 대로로 통과하겠고 우리나 우리 짐승이 당신의 물을 마시면 그 값을 줄 것이라 우리가 도보로 통과할 뿐인즉 아무 일도 없으리이다 하나
  The Israelites replied: "We will go along the main road, and if we or our livestock drink any of your water, we will pay for it. We only want to pass through on foot--nothing else."

20. 그는 가로되 너는 지나가지 못하리라 하고 에돔 왕이 많은 백성을 거느리고 나와서 강한 손으로 막으니
  Again they answered: "You may not pass through." Then Edom came out against them with a large and powerful army.

21. 에돔 왕이 이같이 이스라엘의 그 경내로 통과함을 용납지 아니하므로 이스라엘이 그들에게서 돌이키니라
  Since Edom refused to let them go through their territory, Israel turned away from them.

22. 이스라엘 자손 곧 온 회중이 가데스에서 진행하여 호르 산에 이르렀더니
  The whole Israelite community set out from Kadesh and came to Mount Hor.

23. 여호와께서 에돔 땅 변경 호르 산에서 모세와 아론에게 말씀하시니라 가라사대
  At Mount Hor, near the border of Edom, the LORD said to Moses and Aaron,

24. 아론은 그 열조에게로 돌아가고 내가 이스라엘 자손에게 준 땅에는 들어가지 못하리니 이는 너희가 므리바 물에서 내 말을 거역한 연고니라
  "Aaron will be gathered to his people. He will not enter the land I give the Israelites, because both of you rebelled against my command at the waters of Meribah.

25. 너는 아론과 그 아들 엘르아살을 데리고 호르 산에 올라
  Get Aaron and his son Eleazar and take them up Mount Hor.

26. 아론의 옷을 벗겨 그 아들 엘르아살에게 입히라 아론은 거기서 죽어 그 열조에게로 돌아가리라
  Remove Aaron's garments and put them on his son Eleazar, for Aaron will be gathered to his people; he will die there."

27. 모세가 여호와의 명을 좇아 그들과 함께 회중의 목전에서 호르 산에 오르니라
  Moses did as the LORD commanded: They went up Mount Hor in the sight of the whole community.

28. 모세가 아론의 옷을 벗겨 그 아들 엘르아살에게 입히매 아론이 그 산꼭대기에서 죽으니라 모세와 엘르아살이 산에서 내려오니
  Moses removed Aaron's garments and put them on his son Eleazar. And Aaron died there on top of the mountain. Then Moses and Eleazar came down from the mountain,

29. 온 회중 곧 이스라엘 온 족속이 아론의 죽은 것을 보고 위하여 삼십 일을 애곡하였더라
  and when the whole community learned that Aaron had died, the entire house of Israel mourned for him thirty days.

시편 58-59

1. 인자들아 너희가 당연히 공의를 말하겠거늘 어찌 잠잠하느뇨 너희가 정직히 판단하느뇨
  For the director of music. To the tune of"Do Not Destroy." Of David. A miktam. Do you rulers indeed speak justly? Do you judge uprightly among men?

2. 오히려 너희가 중심에 악을 행하며 땅에서 너희 손의 강포를 달아주는도다
  No, in your heart you devise injustice, and your hands mete out violence on the earth.

3. 악인은 모태에서부터 멀어졌음이여 나면서부터 곁길로 나아가 거짓을 말하는도다
  Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward and speak lies.

4. 저희의 독은 뱀의 독 같으며 저희는 귀를 막은 귀머거리 독사 같으니
  Their venom is like the venom of a snake, like that of a cobra that has stopped its ears,

5. 곧 술사가 아무리 공교한 방술을 행할찌라도 그 소리를 듣지 아니하는 독사로다
  that will not heed the tune of the charmer, however skillful the enchanter may be.

6. 하나님이여 저희 입에서 이를 꺾으소서 여호와여 젊은 사자의 어금니를 꺾어 내시며
  Break the teeth in their mouths, O God; tear out, O LORD, the fangs of the lions!

7. 저희로 급히 흐르는 물같이 사라지게 하시며 겨누는 살이 꺾임 같게 하시며
  Let them vanish like water that flows away; when they draw the bow, let their arrows be blunted.

8. 소멸하여 가는 달팽이 같게 하시며 만기되지 못하여 출생한 자가 일광을 보지 못함 같게 하소서
  Like a slug melting away as it moves along, like a stillborn child, may they not see the sun.

9. 가시나무 불이 가마를 더웁게 하기 전에 저가 생것과 불붙는 것을 회리바람으로 제하여 버리시리로다
  Before your pots can feel the heat of the thorns--whether they be green or dry--the wicked will be swept away.

10. 의인은 악인의 보복당함을 보고 기뻐함이여 그 발을 악인의 피에 씻으리로다
  The righteous will be glad when they are avenged, when they bathe their feet in the blood of the wicked.

11. 때에 사람의 말이 진실로 의인에게 갚음이 있고 진실로 땅에서 판단하시는 하나님이 계시다 하리로다
  Then men will say, "Surely the righteous still are rewarded; surely there is a God who judges the earth."

1. 나의 하나님이여 내 원수에게서 나를 건지시고 일어나 치려는 자에게서 나를 높이 드소서
  For the director of music. To the tune of"Do Not Destroy." Of David. A miktam. When Saul had sent men to watch David's house in order to kill him. Deliver me from my enemies, O God; protect me from those who rise up against me.

2. 사악을 행하는 자에게서 나를 건지시고 피 흘리기를 즐기는 자에게서 나를 구원하소서
  Deliver me from evildoers and save me from bloodthirsty men.

3. 저희가 나의 생명을 해하려고 엎드려 기다리고 강한 자가 모여 나를 치려 하오니 여호와여 이는 나의 범과를 인함이 아니요 나의 죄를 인함도 아니로소이다
  See how they lie in wait for me! Fierce men conspire against me for no offense or sin of mine, O LORD.

4. 내가 허물이 없으나 저희가 달려와서 스스로 준비하오니 주여 나를 도우시기 위하여 깨사 감찰하소서
  I have done no wrong, yet they are ready to attack me. Arise to help me; look on my plight!

5. 만군의 하나님 여호와, 이스라엘의 하나님이여 일어나 열방을 벌하소서 무릇 간사한 악인을 긍휼히 여기지 마소서 (셀라)
  O LORD God Almighty, the God of Israel, rouse yourself to punish all the nations; show no mercy to wicked traitors. Selah

6. 저희가 저물게 돌아와서 개처럼 울며 성으로 두루 다니고
  They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.

7. 그 입으로 악을 토하며 그 입술에는 칼이 있어 이르기를 누가 들으리요 하나이다
  See what they spew from their mouths--they spew out swords from their lips, and they say, "Who can hear us?"

8. 여호와여 주께서 저희를 웃으시리니 모든 열방을 비웃으시리이다
  But you, O LORD, laugh at them; you scoff at all those nations.

9. 하나님은 나의 산성이시니 저의 힘을 인하여 내가 주를 바라리이다
  O my Strength, I watch for you; you, O God, are my fortress,

10. 나의 하나님이 그 인자하심으로 나를 영접하시며 내 원수의 보응받는 것을 나로 목도케 하시리이다
  my loving God. God will go before me and will let me gloat over those who slander me.

11. 저희를 죽이지 마옵소서 나의 백성이 잊을까 하나이다 우리 방패되신 주여 주의 능력으로 저희를 흩으시고 낮추소서
  But do not kill them, O Lord our shield, or my people will forget. In your might make them wander about, and bring them down.

12. 저희 입술의 말은 곧 그 입의 죄라 저희의 저주와 거짓말을 인하여 저희로 그 교만한 중에서 사로잡히게 하소서
  For the sins of their mouths, for the words of their lips, let them be caught in their pride. For the curses and lies they utter,

13. 진노하심으로 소멸하시되 없기까지 소멸하사 하나님이 야곱 중에 다스리심을 땅 끝까지 알게 하소서 (셀라)
  consume them in wrath, consume them till they are no more. Then it will be known to the ends of the earth that God rules over Jacob. Selah

14. 저희로 저물게 돌아와서 개처럼 울며 성으로 두루 다니게 하소서
  They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.

15. 저희는 식물을 위하여 유리하다가 배부름을 얻지 못하면 밤을 새우려니와
  They wander about for food and howl if not satisfied.

16. 나는 주의 힘을 노래하며 아침에 주의 인자하심을 높이 부르오리니 주는 나의 산성이시며 나의 환난 날에 피난처심이니이다
  But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.

17. 나의 힘이시여 내가 주께 찬송하오리니 하나님은 나의 산성이시며 나를 긍휼히 여기시는 하나님이심이니이다
  O my Strength, I sing praise to you; you, O God, are my fortress, my loving God.

이사야 9:8-10:4

8. 주께서 야곱에게 말씀을 보내시며 그것을 이스라엘에게 임하게 하셨은즉
  The Lord has sent a message against Jacob; it will fall on Israel.

9. 모든 백성 곧 에브라임과 사마리아 거민이 알 것이어늘 그들이 교만하고 완악한 마음으로 말하기를
  All the people will know it--Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria--who say with pride and arrogance of heart,

10. 벽돌이 무너졌으나 우리는 다듬은 돌로 쌓고 뽕나무들이 찍혔으나 우리는 백향목으로 그것을 대신하리라 하도다
  "The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with dressed stone; the fig trees have been felled, but we will replace them with cedars."

11. 그러므로 여호와께서 르신의 대적을 일으켜 그를 치게 하시며 그 원수들을 격동시키시리니
  But the LORD has strengthened Rezin's foes against them and has spurred their enemies on.

12. 앞에는 아람 사람이요 뒤에는 블레셋 사람이라 그들이 그 입을 벌려 이스라엘을 삼키리라 그럴찌라도 여호와의 노가 쉬지 아니하며 그 손이 여전히 펴지리라
  Arameans from the east and Philistines from the west have devoured Israel with open mouth. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.

13. 이 백성이 오히려 자기들을 치시는 자에게로 돌아오지 아니하며 만군의 여호와를 찾지 아니하도다
  But the people have not returned to him who struck them, nor have they sought the LORD Almighty.

14. 이러므로 여호와께서 하루 사이에 이스라엘 중에서 머리와 꼬리며 종려가지와 갈대를 끊으시리니
  So the LORD will cut off from Israel both head and tail, both palm branch and reed in a single day;

15. 머리는 곧 장로와 존귀한 자요 꼬리는 곧 거짓말을 가르치는 선지자라
  the elders and prominent men are the head, the prophets who teach lies are the tail.

16. 백성을 인도하는 자가 그들로 미혹케 하니 인도를 받는 자가 멸망을 당하는도다
  Those who guide this people mislead them, and those who are guided are led astray.

17. 이 백성이 각기 설만하며 악을 행하며 입으로 망령되이 말하니 그러므로 주께서 그 장정을 기뻐 아니하시며 그 고아와 과부를 긍휼히 여기지 아니하시리라 그럴지라도 여호와의 노가 쉬지 아니하며 그 손이 여전히 펴지리라
  Therefore the Lord will take no pleasure in the young men, nor will he pity the fatherless and widows, for everyone is ungodly and wicked, every mouth speaks vileness. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.

18. 대저 악행은 불 태우는 것 같으니 곧 질려와 형극을 삼키며 빽빽한 수풀을 살라서 연기로 위로 올라가게 함과 같은 것이라
  Surely wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briers and thorns, it sets the forest thickets ablaze, so that it rolls upward in a column of smoke.

19. 만군의 여호와의 진노로 인하여 이 땅이 소화되리니 백성은 불에 타는 섶나무와 같을 것이라 사람이 그 형제를 아끼지 아니하며
  By the wrath of the LORD Almighty the land will be scorched and the people will be fuel for the fire; no one will spare his brother.

20. 우편으로 움킬지라도 주리고 좌편으로 먹을지라도 배부르지 못하여 각각 자기 팔의 고기를 먹을 것이며
  On the right they will devour, but still be hungry; on the left they will eat, but not be satisfied. Each will feed on the flesh of his own offspring:

21. 므낫세는 에브라임을, 에브라임은 므낫세를 먹을 것이요 또 그들이 합하여 유다를 치리라 그럴지라도 여호와의 노가 쉬지 아니하며 그 손이 여전히 펴지리라
  Manasseh will feed on Ephraim, and Ephraim on Manasseh; together they will turn against Judah. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.

1. 불의한 법령을 발포하며 불의한 말을 기록하며
  Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees,

2. 빈핍한 자를 불공평하게 판결하여 내 백성의 가련한 자의 권리를 박탈하며 과부에게 토색하고 고아의 것을 약탈하는 자는 화 있을진저
  to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the fatherless.

3. 너희에게 벌하시는 날에와 멀리서 오는 환난 때에 너희가 어떻게 하려느냐 누구에게로 도망하여 도움을 구하겠으며 너희 영화를 어느 곳에 두려느냐
  What will you do on the day of reckoning, when disaster comes from afar? To whom will you run for help? Where will you leave your riches?

4. 포로된 자의 아래에 구푸리며 죽임을 당한 자의 아래에 엎드러질 따름이니라 그럴지라도 여호와의 노가 쉬지 아니하며 그 손이 여전히 펴지리라
  Nothing will remain but to cringe among the captives or fall among the slain. Yet for all this, his anger is not turned away, his hand is still upraised.

야고보서 3

1. 내 형제들아 너희는 선생 된 우리가 더 큰 심판 받을 줄을 알고 많이 선생이 되지 말라
  Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.

2. 우리가 다 실수가 많으니 만일 말에 실수가 없는 자면 곧 온전한 사람이라 능히 온 몸도 굴레 씌우리라
  We all stumble in many ways. If anyone is never at fault in what he says, he is a perfect man, able to keep his whole body in check.

3. 우리가 말을 순종케 하려고 그 입에 재갈 먹여 온 몸을 어거하며
  When we put bits into the mouths of horses to make them obey us, we can turn the whole animal.

4. 또 배를 보라 그렇게 크고 광풍에 밀려가는 것들을 지극히 작은 키로 사공의 뜻대로 운전하나니
  Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go.

5. 이와 같이 혀도 작은 지체로되 큰 것을 자랑하도다 보라 어떻게 작은 불이 어떻게 많은 나무를 태우는가
  Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark.

6. 혀는 곧 불이요 불의의 세계라 혀는 우리 지체 중에서 온 몸을 더럽히고 생의 바퀴를 불사르나니 그 사르는 것이 지옥 불에서 나느니라
  The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.

7. 여러 종류의 짐승과 새며 벌레와 해물은 다 길들므로 사람에게 길들었거니와
  All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man,

8. 혀는 능히 길들일 사람이 없나니 쉬지 아니하는 악이요 죽이는 독이 가득한 것이라
  but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.

9. 이것으로 우리가 주 아버지를 찬송하고 또 이것으로 하나님의 형상대로 지음을 받은 사람을 저주하나니
  With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness.

10. 한 입으로 찬송과 저주가 나는도다 내 형제들아 이것이 마땅치 아니하니라
  Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.

11. 샘이 한 구멍으로 어찌 단 물과 쓴 물을 내겠느뇨
  Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?

12. 내 형제들아 어찌 무화과나무가 감람 열매를, 포도나무가 무화과를 맺겠느뇨 이와 같이 짠 물이 단 물을 내지 못하느니라
  My brothers, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.

13. 너희 중에 지혜와 총명이 있는 자가 누구뇨 그는 선행으로 말미암아 지혜의 온유함으로 그 행함을 보일찌니라
  Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

14. 그러나 너희 마음 속에 독한 시기와 다툼이 있으면 자랑하지 말라 진리를 거스려 거짓하지 말라
  But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.

15. 이러한 지혜는 위로부터 내려온 것이 아니요 세상적이요 정욕적이요 마귀적이니
  Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil.

16. 시기와 다툼이 있는 곳에는 요란과 모든 악한 일이 있음이니라
  For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

17. 오직 위로부터 난 지혜는 첫째 성결하고 다음에 화평하고 관용하고 양순하며 긍휼과 선한 열매가 가득하고 편벽과 거짓이 없나니
  But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

18. 화평케 하는 자들은 화평으로 심어 의의 열매를 거두느니라
  Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
