민수기 19

1. 여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 일러 가라사대
  The LORD said to Moses and Aaron:

2. 여호와의 명하는 법의 율례를 이제 이르노니 이스라엘 자손에게 일러서 온전하여 흠이 없고 아직 멍에 메지 아니한 붉은 암송아지를 네게로 끌어오게 하고
  "This is a requirement of the law that the LORD has commanded: Tell the Israelites to bring you a red heifer without defect or blemish and that has never been under a yoke.

3. 너는 그것을 제사장 엘르아살에게 줄 것이요 그는 그것을 진 밖으로 끌어내어서 자기 목전에서 잡게 할 것이며
  Give it to Eleazar the priest; it is to be taken outside the camp and slaughtered in his presence.

4. 제사장 엘르아살은 손가락에 그 피를 찍고 그 피를 회막 앞을 향하여 일곱 번 뿌리고
  Then Eleazar the priest is to take some of its blood on his finger and sprinkle it seven times toward the front of the Tent of Meeting.

5. 그 암소를 자기 목전에서 불사르게 하되 그 가죽과 고기와 피와 똥을 불사르게 하고
  While he watches, the heifer is to be burned--its hide, flesh, blood and offal.

6. 동시에 제사장은 백향목과 우슬초와 홍색실을 취하여 암송아지를 사르는 불 가운데 던질 것이며
  The priest is to take some cedar wood, hyssop and scarlet wool and throw them onto the burning heifer.

7. 제사장은 그 옷을 빨고 물로 몸을 씻은 후에 진에 들어갈 것이라 그는 저녁까지 부정하리라
  After that, the priest must wash his clothes and bathe himself with water. He may then come into the camp, but he will be ceremonially unclean till evening.

8. 송아지를 불사른 자도 그 옷을 물로 빨고 물로 그 몸을 씻을 것이라 그도 저녁까지 부정하리라
  The man who burns it must also wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he too will be unclean till evening.

9. 이에 정한 자가 암송아지의 재를 거두어 진 밖 정한 곳에 둘찌니 이것은 이스라엘 자손 회중을 위하여 간직하였다가 부정을 깨끗케 하는 물을 만드는데 쓸 것이니 곧 속죄제니라
  "A man who is clean shall gather up the ashes of the heifer and put them in a ceremonially clean place outside the camp. They shall be kept by the Israelite community for use in the water of cleansing; it is for purification from sin.

10. 암송아지의 재를 거둔 자도 그 옷을 빨 것이며 저녁까지 부정하리라 이는 이스라엘 자손과 그 중에 우거하는 외인에게 영원한 율례니라
  The man who gathers up the ashes of the heifer must also wash his clothes, and he too will be unclean till evening. This will be a lasting ordinance both for the Israelites and for the aliens living among them.

11. 사람의 시체를 만진 자는 칠 일을 부정하리니
  "Whoever touches the dead body of anyone will be unclean for seven days.

12. 그는 제 삼 일과 제 칠 일에 이 잿물로 스스로 정결케 할 것이라 그리하면 정하려니와 제 삼 일과 제 칠 일에 스스로 정결케 아니하면 그냥 부정하니
  He must purify himself with the water on the third day and on the seventh day; then he will be clean. But if he does not purify himself on the third and seventh days, he will not be clean.

13. 누구든지 죽은 사람의 시체를 만지고 스스로 정결케 아니하는 자는 여호와의 성막을 더럽힘이라 그가 이스라엘에서 끊쳐질 것은 정결케 하는 물을 그에게 뿌리지 아니하므로 깨끗케 되지 못하고 그 부정함이 그저 있음이니라
  Whoever touches the dead body of anyone and fails to purify himself defiles the LORD'S tabernacle. That person must be cut off from Israel. Because the water of cleansing has not been sprinkled on him, he is unclean; his uncleanness remains on him.

14. 장막에서 사람이 죽을 때의 법은 이러하니 무릇 그 장막에 들어가는 자와 무릇 그 장막에 있는 자가 칠 일 동안 부정할 것이며
  "This is the law that applies when a person dies in a tent: Anyone who enters the tent and anyone who is in it will be unclean for seven days,

15. 무릇 뚜껑을 열어 놓고 덮지 아니한 그릇도 부정하니라
  and every open container without a lid fastened on it will be unclean.

16. 누구든지 들에서 칼에 죽이운 자나 시체나 사람의 뼈나 무덤을 만졌으면 칠 일 동안 부정하리니
  "Anyone out in the open who touches someone who has been killed with a sword or someone who has died a natural death, or anyone who touches a human bone or a grave, will be unclean for seven days.

17. 그 부정한 자를 위하여 죄를 깨끗하게 하려고 불사른 재를 취하여 흐르는 물과 함께 그릇에 담고
  "For the unclean person, put some ashes from the burned purification offering into a jar and pour fresh water over them.

18. 정한 자가 우슬초를 취하여 그 물을 찍어서 장막과 그 모든 기구와 거기 있는 사람들에게 뿌리고 또 뼈나 죽임을 당한 자나 시체나 무덤을 만진 자에게 뿌리되
  Then a man who is ceremonially clean is to take some hyssop, dip it in the water and sprinkle the tent and all the furnishings and the people who were there. He must also sprinkle anyone who has touched a human bone or a grave or someone who has been killed or someone who has died a natural death.

19. 그 정한 자가 제 삼 일과 제 칠 일에 그 부정한 자에게 뿌려서 제 칠 일에 그를 정결케 할 것이며 그는 자기 옷을 빨고 물로 몸을 씻을 것이라 저녁이면 정하리라
  The man who is clean is to sprinkle the unclean person on the third and seventh days, and on the seventh day he is to purify him. The person being cleansed must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and that evening he will be clean.

20. 사람이 부정하고도 스스로 정결케 아니하면 여호와의 성소를 더럽힘이니 그러므로 총회 중에서 끊쳐질 것이니라 그는 정결케 하는 물로 뿌리움을 받지 아니하였은즉 부정하니라
  But if a person who is unclean does not purify himself, he must be cut off from the community, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the LORD. The water of cleansing has not been sprinkled on him, and he is unclean.

21. 이는 그들의 영영한 율례니라 정결케 하는 물을 뿌린 자는 그 옷을 빨 것이며 정결케 하는 물을 만지는 자는 저녁까지 부정할 것이며
  This is a lasting ordinance for them. "The man who sprinkles the water of cleansing must also wash his clothes, and anyone who touches the water of cleansing will be unclean till evening.

22. 부정한 자가 만진 것은 무엇이든지 부정할 것이며 그것을 만지는 자도 저녁까지 부정하리라
  Anything that an unclean person touches becomes unclean, and anyone who touches it becomes unclean till evening."

시편 56-57

1. 하나님이여 나를 긍휼히 여기소서 사람이 나를 삼키려고 종일 치며 압제하나이다
  For the director of music. To the tune of"A Dove on Distant Oaks." Of David. A miktam. When the Philistines had seized him in Gath. Be merciful to me, O God, for men hotly pursue me; all day long they press their attack.

2. 나의 원수가 종일 나를 삼키려 하며 나를 교만히 치는 자 많사오니
  My slanderers pursue me all day long; many are attacking me in their pride.

3. 내가 두려워하는 날에는 주를 의지하리이다
  When I am afraid, I will trust in you.

4. 내가 하나님을 의지하고 그 말씀을 찬송하올찌라 내가 하나님을 의지하였은즉 두려워 아니하리니 혈육 있는 사람이 내게 어찌하리이까
  In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me?

5. 저희가 종일 내 말을 곡해하며 내게 대한 저희 모든 사상은 사악이라
  All day long they twist my words; they are always plotting to harm me.

6. 저희가 내 생명을 엿보던 것과 같이 또 모여 숨어 내 종적을 살피나이다
  They conspire, they lurk, they watch my steps, eager to take my life.

7. 저희가 죄악을 짓고야 피하오리이까 하나님이여 분노하사 뭇 백성을 낮추소서
  On no account let them escape; in your anger, O God, bring down the nations.

8. 나의 유리함을 주께서 계수하셨으니 나의 눈물을 주의 병에 담으소서 이것이 주의 책에 기록되지 아니하였나이까
  Record my lament; list my tears on your scroll--are they not in your record?

9. 내가 아뢰는 날에 내 원수가 물러가리니 하나님이 나를 도우심인 줄 아나이다
  Then my enemies will turn back when I call for help. By this I will know that God is for me.

10. 내가 하나님을 의지하여 그 말씀을 찬송하며 여호와를 의지하여 그 말씀을 찬송하리이다
  In God, whose word I praise, in the LORD, whose word I praise--

11. 내가 하나님을 의지하였은즉 두려워 아니하리니 사람이 내게 어찌하리이까
  in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

12. 하나님이여 내가 주께 서원함이 있사온즉 내가 감사제를 주께 드리리니
  I am under vows to you, O God; I will present my thank offerings to you.

13. 주께서 내 생명을 사망에서 건지셨음이라 주께서 나로 하나님 앞, 생명의 빛에 다니게 하시려고 실족지 않게 하지 아니하셨나이까
  For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.

1. 하나님이여 나를 긍휼히 여기시고 나를 긍휼히 여기소서 내 영혼이 주께로 피하되 주의 날개 그늘 아래서 이 재앙이 지나기까지 피하리이다
  For the director of music. To the tune of"Do Not Destroy." Of David. A miktam. When he had fled from Saul into the cave. Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me, for in you my soul takes refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.

2. 내가 지극히 높으신 하나님께 부르짖음이여 곧 나를 위하여 모든 것을 이루시는 하나님께로다
  I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me.

3. 저가 하늘에서 보내사 나를 삼키려는 자의 비방에서 나를 구원하실찌라(셀라) 하나님이 그 인자와 진리를 보내시리로다
  He sends from heaven and saves me, rebuking those who hotly pursue me; Selah God sends his love and his faithfulness.

4. 내 혼이 사자 중에 처하며 내가 불사르는 자 중에 누웠으니 곧 인생 중에라 저희 이는 창과 살이요 저희 혀는 날카로운 칼 같도다
  I am in the midst of lions; I lie among ravenous beasts--men whose teeth are spears and arrows, whose tongues are sharp swords.

5. 하나님이여 주는 하늘 위에 높이 들리시며 주의 영광은 온 세계 위에 높아지기를 원하나이다
  Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

6. 저희가 내 걸음을 장애하려고 그물을 예비하였으니 내 영혼이 억울하도다 저희가 내 앞에 웅덩이를 팠으나 스스로 그 중에 빠졌도다 (셀라)
  They spread a net for my feet--I was bowed down in distress. They dug a pit in my path--but they have fallen into it themselves. Selah

7. 하나님이여 내 마음이 확정되었고 내 마음이 확정되었사오니 내가 노래하고 내가 찬송하리이다
  My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music.

8. 내 영광아 깰찌어다 비파야, 수금아, 깰찌어다 내가 새벽을 깨우리로다
  Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.

9. 주여 내가 만민 중에서 주께 감사하오며 열방 중에서 주를 찬송하리이다
  I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples.

10. 대저 주의 인자는 커서 하늘에 미치고 주의 진리는 궁창에 이르나이다
  For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

11. 하나님이여 주는 하늘 위에 높이 들리시며 주의 영광은 온 세계 위에 높아지기를 원하나이다
  Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.

■ 혼자 읽기

이사야 8:1-9:7

1. 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 너는 큰 서판을 취하여 그 위에 통용 문자로 마헬살랄하스바스라 쓰라
  The LORD said to me, "Take a large scroll and write on it with an ordinary pen: Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.

2. 내가 진실한 증인 제사장 우리야와 여베레기야의 아들 스가랴를 불러 증거하게 하리라 하시더니
  And I will call in Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberekiah as reliable witnesses for me."

3. 내가 내 아내와 동침하매 그가 잉태하여 아들을 낳은지라 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 그 이름을 마헬살랄하스바스라 하라
  Then I went to the prophetess, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. And the LORD said to me, "Name him Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.

4. 이는 이 아이가 내 아빠, 내 엄마라 할 줄 알기 전에 다메섹의 재물과 사마리아의 노략물이 앗수르 왕 앞에 옮긴 바 될 것임이니라
  Before the boy knows how to say 'My father' or 'My mother,' the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria will be carried off by the king of Assyria."

5. 여호와께서 다시 내게 일러 가라사대
  The LORD spoke to me again:

6. 이 백성이 천천히 흐르는 실로아 물을 버리고 르신과 르말리야의 아들을 기뻐하나니
  "Because this people has rejected the gently flowing waters of Shiloah and rejoices over Rezin and the son of Remaliah,

7. 그러므로 주 내가 흉용하고 창일한 큰 하수 곧 앗수르 왕과 그의 모든 위력으로 그들 위에 덮을 것이라 그 모든 곬에 차고 모든 언덕에 넘쳐
  therefore the Lord is about to bring against them the mighty floodwaters of the River--the king of Assyria with all his pomp. It will overflow all its channels, run over all its banks

8. 흘러 유다에 들어와서 창일하고 목에까지 미치리라 임마누엘이여 그의 펴는 날개가 네 땅에 편만하리라 하셨느니라
  and sweep on into Judah, swirling over it, passing through it and reaching up to the neck. Its outspread wings will cover the breadth of your land, O Immanuel!"

9. 너희 민족들아 훤화하라 필경 패망하리라 너희 먼 나라 백성들아 들을지니라 너희 허리를 동이라 필경 패망하리라 너희 허리에 띠를 띠라 필경 패망하리라
  Raise the war cry, you nations, and be shattered! Listen, all you distant lands. Prepare for battle, and be shattered! Prepare for battle, and be shattered!

10. 너희는 함께 도모하라 필경 이루지 못하리라 말을 내어라 시행되지 못하리라 이는 하나님이 우리와 함께 하심이니라
  Devise your strategy, but it will be thwarted; propose your plan, but it will not stand, for God is with us.

11. 여호와께서 강한 손으로 내게 알게 하시며 이 백성의 길로 행치 말 것을 내게 경성시켜 가라사대
  The LORD spoke to me with his strong hand upon me, warning me not to follow the way of this people. He said:

12. 이 백성이 맹약한 자가 있다 말하여도 너희는 그 모든 말을 따라 맹약한 자가 있다 하지 말며 그들의 두려워하는 것을 너희는 두려워하지 말며 놀라지 말고
  "Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it.

13. 만군의 여호와 그를 너희가 거룩하다 하고 그로 너희의 두려워하며 놀랄 자를 삼으라
  The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread,

14. 그가 거룩한 피할 곳이 되시리라 그러나 이스라엘의 두 집에는 거치는 돌, 걸리는 반석이 되실 것이며 예루살렘 거민에게는 함정, 올무가 되시리니
  and he will be a sanctuary; but for both houses of Israel he will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall. And for the people of Jerusalem he will be a trap and a snare.

15. 많은 사람들이 그로 인하여 거칠 것이며 넘어질 것이며 부러질 것이며 걸릴 것이며 잡힐 것이니라
  Many of them will stumble; they will fall and be broken, they will be snared and captured."

16. 너는 증거의 말씀을 싸매며 율법을 나의 제자 중에 봉함하라
  Bind up the testimony and seal up the law among my disciples.

17. 이제 야곱 집에 대하여 낯을 가리우시는 여호와를 나는 기다리며 그를 바라보리라
  I will wait for the LORD, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob. I will put my trust in him.

18. 보라 나와 및 여호와께서 내게 주신 자녀들이 이스라엘 중에 징조와 예표가 되었나니 이는 시온 산에 계신 만군의 여호와께로 말미암은 것이니라
  Here am I, and the children the LORD has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the LORD Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.

19. 혹이 너희에게 고하기를 지절거리며 속살거리는 신접한 자와 마술사에게 물으라 하거든 백성이 자기 하나님께 구할 것이 아니냐 산 자를 위하여 죽은 자에게 구하겠느냐 하라
  When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?

20. 마땅히 율법과 증거의 말씀을 좇을지니 그들의 말하는 바가 이 말씀에 맞지 아니하면 그들이 정녕히 아침 빛을 보지 못하고
  To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, they have no light of dawn.

21. 이 땅으로 헤매며 곤고하며 주릴 것이라 그 주릴 때에 번조하여 자기의 왕 자기의 하나님을 저주할 것이며 위를 쳐다보거나
  Distressed and hungry, they will roam through the land; when they are famished, they will become enraged and, looking upward, will curse their king and their God.

22. 땅을 굽어보아도 환난과 흑암과 고통의 흑암뿐이리니 그들이 심한 흑암 중으로 쫓겨 들어가리라
  Then they will look toward the earth and see only distress and darkness and fearful gloom, and they will be thrust into utter darkness.

1. 전에 고통하던 자에게는 흑암이 없으리로다 옛적에는 여호와께서 스불론 땅과 납달리 땅으로 멸시를 당케 하셨더니 후에는 해변 길과 요단 저편 이방의 갈릴리를 영화롭게 하셨느니라
  Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jordan--

2. 흑암에 행하던 백성이 큰 빛을 보고 사망의 그늘진 땅에 거하던 자에게 빛이 비취도다
  The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.

3. 주께서 이 나라를 창성케 하시며 그 즐거움을 더하게 하셨으므로 추수하는 즐거움과 탈취물을 나누는 때의 즐거움같이 그들이 주의 앞에서 즐거워하오니
  You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing the plunder.

4. 이는 그들의 무겁게 멘 멍에와 그 어깨의 채찍과 그 압제자의 막대기를 꺾으시되 미디안의 날과 같이 하셨음이니이다
  For as in the day of Midian's defeat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor.

5. 어지러이 싸우는 군인의 갑옷과 피묻은 복장이 불에 섶같이 살라지리니
  Every warrior's boot used in battle and every garment rolled in blood will be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire.

6. 이는 한 아기가 우리에게 났고 한 아들을 우리에게 주신 바 되었는데 그 어깨에는 정사를 메었고 그 이름은 기묘자라, 모사라, 전능하신 하나님이라, 영존하시는 아버지라, 평강의 왕이라 할 것임이라
  For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

7. 그 정사와 평강의 더함이 무궁하며 또 다윗의 위에 앉아서 그 나라를 굳게 세우고 자금 이후 영원토록 공평과 정의로 그것을 보존하실 것이라 만군의 여호와의 열심이 이를 이루시리라
  Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

야고보서 2

1. 내 형제들아 영광의 주 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 믿는 믿음을 너희가 받았으니 사람을 외모로 취하지 말라
  My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don't show favoritism.

2. 만일 너희 회당에 금가락지를 끼고 아름다운 옷을 입은 사람이 들어오고 또 더러운 옷을 입은 가난한 사람이 들어올 때에
  Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in.

3. 너희가 아름다운 옷을 입은 자를 돌아보아 가로되 여기 좋은 자리에 앉으소서 하고 또 가난한 자에게 이르되 너는 거기 섰든지 내 발등상 아래 앉으라 하면
  If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, "Here's a good seat for you," but say to the poor man, "You stand there" or "Sit on the floor by my feet,"

4. 너희끼리 서로 구별하며 악한 생각으로 판단하는 자가 되는 것이 아니냐
  have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts?

5. 내 사랑하는 형제들아 들을찌어다 하나님이 세상에 대하여는 가난한 자를 택하사 믿음에 부요하게 하시고 또 자기를 사랑하는 자들에게 약속하신 나라를 유업으로 받게 아니하셨느냐
  Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?

6. 너희는 도리어 가난한 자를 괄시하였도다 부자는 너희를 압제하며 법정으로 끌고 가지 아니하느냐
  But you have insulted the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court?

7. 저희는 너희에게 대하여 일컫는 바 그 아름다운 이름을 훼방하지 아니하느냐
  Are they not the ones who are slandering the noble name of him to whom you belong?

8. 너희가 만일 경에 기록한 대로 네 이웃 사랑하기를 네 몸과 같이 하라 하신 최고한 법을 지키면 잘하는 것이거니와
  If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing right.

9. 만일 너희가 외모로 사람을 취하면 죄를 짓는 것이니 율법이 너희를 범죄자로 정하리라
  But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.

10. 누구든지 온 율법을 지키다가 그 하나에 거치면 모두 범한 자가 되나니
  For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.

11. 간음하지 말라 하신 이가 또한 살인하지 말라 하셨은즉 네가 비록 간음하지 아니하여도 살인하면 율법을 범한 자가 되느니라
  For he who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not murder." If you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a lawbreaker.

12. 너희는 자유의 율법대로 심판받을 자처럼 말도 하고 행하기도 하라
  Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom,

13. 긍휼을 행하지 아니하는 자에게는 긍휼 없는 심판이 있으리라 긍휼은 심판을 이기고 자랑하느니라
  because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment!

14. 내 형제들아 만일 사람이 믿음이 있노라 하고 행함이 없으면 무슨 이익이 있으리요 그 믿음이 능히 자기를 구원하겠느냐
  What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?

15. 만일 형제나 자매가 헐벗고 일용할 양식이 없는데
  Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food.

16. 너희 중에 누구든지 그에게 이르되 평안히 가라, 더웁게 하라, 배부르게 하라 하며 그 몸에 쓸 것을 주지 아니하면 무슨 이익이 있으리요
  If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?

17. 이와 같이 행함이 없는 믿음은 그 자체가 죽은 것이라
  In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

18. 혹이 가로되 너는 믿음이 있고 나는 행함이 있으니 행함이 없는 네 믿음을 내게 보이라 나는 행함으로 내 믿음을 네게 보이리라
  But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds." Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

19. 네가 하나님은 한 분이신 줄을 믿느냐 잘하는도다 귀신들도 믿고 떠느니라
  You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder.

20. 아아 허탄한 사람아 행함이 없는 믿음이 헛것인 줄 알고자 하느냐
  You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?

21. 우리 조상 아브라함이 그 아들 이삭을 제단에 드릴 때에 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받은 것이 아니냐
  Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?

22. 네가 보거니와 믿음이 그의 행함과 함께 일하고 행함으로 믿음이 온전케 되었느니라
  You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

23. 이에 경에 이른 바 아브라함이 하나님을 믿으니 이것을 의로 여기셨다는 말씀이 응하였고 그는 하나님의 벗이라 칭함을 받았나니
  And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend.

24. 이로 보건대 사람이 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받고 믿음으로만 아니니라
  You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.

25. 또 이와 같이 기생 라합이 사자를 접대하여 다른 길로 나가게 할 때에 행함으로 의롭다 하심을 받은 것이 아니냐
  In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?

26. 영혼 없는 몸이 죽은 것같이 행함이 없는 믿음은 죽은 것이니라
  As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.
