민수기 24

1. 발람이 자기가 이스라엘을 축복하는 것을 여호와께서 선히 여기심을 보고 전과 같이 사술을 쓰지 아니하고 그 낯을 광야로 향하여
  Now when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he did not resort to sorcery as at other times, but turned his face toward the desert.

2. 눈을 들어 이스라엘이 그 지파대로 거하는 것을 보는 동시에 하나님의 신이 그 위에 임하신지라
  When Balaam looked out and saw Israel encamped tribe by tribe, the Spirit of God came upon him

3. 그가 노래를 지어 가로되 브올의 아들 발람이 말하며 눈을 감았던 자가 말하며
  and he uttered his oracle: "The oracle of Balaam son of Beor, the oracle of one whose eye sees clearly,

4. 하나님의 말씀을 듣는 자, 전능자의 이상을 보는 자, 엎드려서 눈을 뜬 자가 말하기를
  the oracle of one who hears the words of God, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened:

5. 야곱이여 네 장막이, 이스라엘이여 네 거처가 어찌 그리 아름다운고
  "How beautiful are your tents, O Jacob, your dwelling places, O Israel!

6. 그 벌어짐이 골짜기 같고 강가의 동산 같으며 여호와의 심으신 침향목들 같고 물가의 백향목들 같도다
  "Like valleys they spread out, like gardens beside a river, like aloes planted by the LORD, like cedars beside the waters.

7. 그 통에서는 물이 넘치겠고 그 종자는 많은 물가에 있으리로다 그 왕이 아각보다 높으니 그 나라가 진흥하리로다
  Water will flow from their buckets; their seed will have abundant water. "Their king will be greater than Agag; their kingdom will be exalted.

8. 하나님이 그를 애굽에서 인도하여 내셨으니 그 힘이 들소와 같도다 그 적국을 삼키고 그들의 뼈를 꺾으며 화살로 쏘아 꿰뚫으리로다
  "God brought them out of Egypt; they have the strength of a wild ox. They devour hostile nations and break their bones in pieces; with their arrows they pierce them.

9. 꿇어 앉고 누움이 수사자와 같고 암사자와도 같으니 일으킬 자 누구이랴 너를 축복하는 자마다 복을 받을 것이요 너를 저주하는 자마다 저주를 받을찌로다
  Like a lion they crouch and lie down, like a lioness--who dares to rouse them? "May those who bless you be blessed and those who curse you be cursed!"

10. 발락이 발람에게 노하여 손뼉을 치며 발람에게 말하되 내가 그대를 부른 것은 내 원수를 저주하라 함이어늘 그대가 이같이 세 번 그들을 축복하였도다
  Then Balak's anger burned against Balaam. He struck his hands together and said to him, "I summoned you to curse my enemies, but you have blessed them these three times.

11. 그러므로 그대는 이제 그대의 곳으로 달려가라 내가 그대를 높여 심히 존귀케 하기로 뜻하였더니 여호와가 그대를 막아 존귀치 못하게 하셨도다
  Now leave at once and go home! I said I would reward you handsomely, but the LORD has kept you from being rewarded."

12. 발람이 발락에게 이르되 당신이 내게 보낸 사자들에게 내가 고하여 이르지 아니하였나이까
  Balaam answered Balak, "Did I not tell the messengers you sent me,

13. 가령 발락이 그 집에 은금을 가득히 채워서 내게 줄찌라도 나는 여호와의 말씀을 어기고 선악간 임의로 행하지 못하고 여호와께서 말씀하신대로 말하리라 하지 아니하였나이까
  'Even if Balak gave me his palace filled with silver and gold, I could not do anything of my own accord, good or bad, to go beyond the command of the LORD--and I must say only what the LORD says'?

14. 이제 나는 내 백성에게로 돌아가거니와 들으소서 내가 이 백성이 후일에 당신의 백성에게 어떻게 할 것을 당신에게 고하리이다 하고
  Now I am going back to my people, but come, let me warn you of what this people will do to your people in days to come."

15. 노래를 지어 가로되 브올의 아들 발람이 말하며 눈을 감았던 자가 말하며
  Then he uttered his oracle: "The oracle of Balaam son of Beor, the oracle of one whose eye sees clearly,

16. 하나님의 말씀을 듣는 자가 말하며 지극히 높으신 자의 지식을 아는 자, 전능자의 이상을 보는 자, 엎드려서 눈을 뜬 자가 말하기를
  the oracle of one who hears the words of God, who has knowledge from the Most High, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls prostrate, and whose eyes are opened:

17. 내가 그를 보아도 이 때의 일이 아니며 내가 그를 바라보아도 가까운 일이 아니로다 한 별이 야곱에게서 나오며 한 홀이 이스라엘에게서 일어나서 모압을 이편에서 저편까지 쳐서 파하고 또 소동하는 자식들을 다 멸하리로다
  "I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob; a scepter will rise out of Israel. He will crush the foreheads of Moab, the skulls of all the sons of Sheth.

18. 그 원수 에돔은 그들의 산업이 되며 그 원수 세일도 그들의 산업이 되고 그 동시에 이스라엘은 용감히 행동하리로다
  Edom will be conquered; Seir, his enemy, will be conquered, but Israel will grow strong.

19. 주권자가 야곱에게서 나서 남은 자들을 그 성읍에서 멸절하리로다 하고
  A ruler will come out of Jacob and destroy the survivors of the city."

20. 또 아말렉을 바라보며 노래를 지어 가로되 아말렉은 열국 중 으뜸이나 종말은 멸망에 이르리로다 하고
  Then Balaam saw Amalek and uttered his oracle: "Amalek was first among the nations, but he will come to ruin at last."

21. 또 가인 족속을 바라보며 노래를 지어 가로되 너의 거처가 견고하니 네 보금자리는 바위에 있도다
  Then he saw the Kenites and uttered his oracle: "Your dwelling place is secure, your nest is set in a rock;

22. 그러나 가인이 쇠미하리니 나중에는 앗수르의 포로가 되리로다 하고
  yet you Kenites will be destroyed when Asshur takes you captive."

23. 또 노래를 지어 가로되 슬프다 하나님이 이 일을 행하시리니 그 때에 살 자가 누구이랴
  Then he uttered his oracle: "Ah, who can live when God does this?

24. 깃딤 해변에서 배들이 와서 앗수르를 학대하며 에벨을 괴롭게 하리라마는 그도 멸망하리로다 하고
  Ships will come from the shores of Kittim; they will subdue Asshur and Eber, but they too will come to ruin."

25. 발람이 일어나 자기 곳으로 돌아갔고 발락도 자기 길로 갔더라
  Then Balaam got up and returned home and Balak went his own way.

시편 66-67

1. 온 땅이여 하나님께 즐거운 소리를 발할찌어다
  For the director of music. A song. A psalm. Shout with joy to God, all the earth!

2. 그 이름의 영광을 찬양하고 영화롭게 찬송할찌어다
  Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious!

3. 하나님께 고하기를 주의 일이 어찌 그리 엄위하신지요 주의 큰 권능으로 인하여 주의 원수가 주께 복종할 것이며
  Say to God, "How awesome are your deeds! So great is your power that your enemies cringe before you.

4. 온 땅이 주께 경배하고 주를 찬양하며 주의 이름을 찬양하리이다 할찌어다(셀라)
  All the earth bows down to you; they sing praise to you, they sing praise to your name." Selah

5. 와서 하나님의 행하신 것을 보라 인생에게 행하심이 엄위하시도다
  Come and see what God has done, how awesome his works in man's behalf!

6. 하나님이 바다를 변하여 육지 되게 하셨으므로 무리가 도보로 강을 통과하고 우리가 거기서 주로 인하여 기뻐하였도다
  He turned the sea into dry land, they passed through the waters on foot--come, let us rejoice in him.

7. 저가 그 능으로 영원히 치리하시며 눈으로 열방을 감찰하시나니 거역하는 자는 자고하지 말찌어다(셀라)
  He rules forever by his power, his eyes watch the nations--let not the rebellious rise up against him. Selah

8. 만민들아 우리 하나님을 송축하며 그 송축 소리로 들리게 할찌어다
  Praise our God, O peoples, let the sound of his praise be heard;

9. 그는 우리 영혼을 살려 두시고 우리의 실족함을 허락지 아니하시는 주시로다
  he has preserved our lives and kept our feet from slipping.

10. 하나님이여 주께서 우리를 시험하시되 우리를 단련하시기를 은을 단련함같이 하셨으며
  For you, O God, tested us; you refined us like silver.

11. 우리를 끌어 그물에 들게 하시며 어려운 짐을 우리 허리에 두셨으며
  You brought us into prison and laid burdens on our backs.

12. 사람들로 우리 머리 위로 타고 가게 하셨나이다 우리가 불과 물을 통행하였더니 주께서 우리를 끌어내사 풍부한 곳에 들이셨나이다
  You let men ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.

13. 내가 번제를 가지고 주의 집에 들어가서 나의 서원을 갚으리니
  I will come to your temple with burnt offerings and fulfill my vows to you--

14. 이는 내 입술이 발한 것이요 내 환난 때에 내 입이 말한 것이니이다
  vows my lips promised and my mouth spoke when I was in trouble.

15. 내가 수양의 향기와 함께 살진 것으로 주께 번제를 드리며 수소와 염소를 드리리이다(셀라)
  I will sacrifice fat animals to you and an offering of rams; I will offer bulls and goats. Selah

16. 하나님을 두려워하는 너희들아 다 와서 들으라 하나님이 내 영혼을 위하여 행하신 일을 내가 선포하리로다
  Come and listen, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.

17. 내가 내 입으로 그에게 부르짖으며 내 혀로 높이 찬송하였도다
  I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue.

18. 내가 내 마음에 죄악을 품으면 주께서 듣지 아니하시리라
  If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened;

19. 그러나 하나님이 실로 들으셨으며 내 기도 소리에 주의하셨도다
  but God has surely listened and heard my voice in prayer.

20. 하나님을 찬송하리로다 저가 내 기도를 물리치지 아니하시고 그 인자하심을 내게서 거두지도 아니하셨도다
  Praise be to God, who has not rejected my prayer or withheld his love from me!

1. 하나님은 우리를 긍휼히 여기사 복을 주시고 그 얼굴 빛으로 우리에게 비취사 (셀라)
  For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm. A song. May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us, Selah

2. 주의 도를 땅 위에, 주의 구원을 만방 중에 알리소서
  that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.

3. 하나님이여 민족들로 주를 찬송케 하시며 모든 민족으로 주를 찬송케 하소서
  May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you.

4. 열방은 기쁘고 즐겁게 노래할찌니 주는 민족들을 공평히 판단하시며 땅 위에 열방을 치리하실 것임이니이다(셀라)
  May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth. Selah

5. 하나님이여 민족들로 주를 찬송케 하시며 모든 민족으로 주를 찬송케 하소서
  May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you.

6. 땅이 그 소산을 내었도다 하나님 곧 우리 하나님이 우리에게 복을 주시리로다
  Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us.

7. 하나님이 우리에게 복을 주시리니 땅의 모든 끝이 하나님을 경외하리로다
  God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.

■ 혼자 읽기

이사야 14

1. 여호와께서 야곱을 긍휼히 여기시며 이스라엘을 다시 택하여 자기 고토에 두시리니 나그네 된 자가 야곱 족속에게 가입되어 그들과 연합할 것이며
  The LORD will have compassion on Jacob; once again he will choose Israel and will settle them in their own land. Aliens will join them and unite with the house of Jacob.

2. 민족들이 그들을 데리고 그들의 본토에 돌아오리니 이스라엘 족속이 여호와의 땅에서 그들을 얻어 노비를 삼겠고 전에 자기를 사로잡던 자를 사로잡고 자기를 압제하던 자를 주관하리라
  Nations will take them and bring them to their own place. And the house of Israel will possess the nations as menservants and maidservants in the LORD'S land. They will make captives of their captors and rule over their oppressors.

3. 여호와께서 너를 슬픔과 곤고와 및 너의 수고하는 고역에서 놓으시고 안식을 주시는 날에
  On the day the LORD gives you relief from suffering and turmoil and cruel bondage,

4. 너는 바벨론 왕에 대하여 이 노래를 지어 이르기를 학대하던 자가 어찌 그리 그쳤으며 강포한 성이 어찌 그리 폐하였는고
  you will take up this taunt against the king of Babylon: How the oppressor has come to an end! How his fury has ended!

5. 여호와께서 악인의 몽둥이와 패권자의 홀을 꺾으셨도다
  The LORD has broken the rod of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers,

6. 그들이 분내어 여러 민족을 치되 치기를 마지 아니하였고 노하여 열방을 억압하여도 그 억압을 막을 자 없었더니
  which in anger struck down peoples with unceasing blows, and in fury subdued nations with relentless aggression.

7. 이제는 온 땅이 평안하고 정온하니 무리가 소리질러 노래하는도다
  All the lands are at rest and at peace; they break into singing.

8. 향나무와 레바논 백향목도 너로 인하여 기뻐하여 이르기를 네가 넘어뜨리웠은즉 올라와서 우리를 작벌할 자 없다 하는도다
  Even the pine trees and the cedars of Lebanon exult over you and say, "Now that you have been laid low, no woodsman comes to cut us down."

9. 아래의 음부가 너로 인하여 소동하여 너의 옴을 영접하되 그것이 세상에서의 모든 영웅을 너로 인하여 동하게 하며 열방의 모든 왕으로 그 보좌에서 일어서게 하므로
  The grave below is all astir to meet you at your coming; it rouses the spirits of the departed to greet you--all those who were leaders in the world; it makes them rise from their thrones--all those who were kings over the nations.

10. 그들은 다 네게 말하여 이르기를 너도 우리같이 연약하게 되었느냐 너도 우리같이 되었느냐 하리로다
  They will all respond, they will say to you, "You also have become weak, as we are; you have become like us."

11. 네 영화가 음부에 떨어졌음이여 너의 비파 소리까지로다 구더기가 네 아래 깔림이여 지렁이가 너를 덮었도다
  All your pomp has been brought down to the grave, along with the noise of your harps; maggots are spread out beneath you and worms cover you.

12. 너 아침의 아들 계명성이여 어찌 그리 하늘에서 떨어졌으며 너 열국을 엎은 자여 어찌 그리 땅에 찍혔는고
  How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!

13. 네가 네 마음에 이르기를 내가 하늘에 올라 하나님의 뭇 별 위에 나의 보좌를 높이리라 내가 북극 집회의 산 위에 좌정하리라
  You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.

14. 가장 높은 구름에 올라 지극히 높은 자와 비기리라 하도다
  I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."

15. 그러나 이제 네가 음부 곧 구덩이의 맨 밑에 빠치우리로다
  But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit.

16. 너를 보는 자가 주목하여 너를 자세히 살펴보며 말하기를 이 사람이 땅을 진동시키며 열국을 경동시키며
  Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: "Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble,

17. 세계를 황무케 하며 성읍을 파괴하며 사로잡힌 자를 그 집으로 놓아 보내지 않던 자가 아니뇨 하리로다
  the man who made the world a desert, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?"

18. 열방의 왕들은 모두 각각 자기 집에서 영광 중에 자건마는
  All the kings of the nations lie in state, each in his own tomb.

19. 오직 너는 자기 무덤에서 내어쫓겼으니 가증한 나무가지 같고 칼에 찔려 돌구덩이에 빠진 주검에 둘려싸였으니 밟힌 시체와 같도다
  But you are cast out of your tomb like a rejected branch; you are covered with the slain, with those pierced by the sword, those who descend to the stones of the pit. Like a corpse trampled underfoot,

20. 네가 자기 땅을 망케 하였고 자기 백성을 죽였으므로 그들과 일반으로 안장함을 얻지 못하나니 악을 행하는 자의 후손은 영영히 이름이 나지 못하리로다 할찌니라
  you will not join them in burial, for you have destroyed your land and killed your people. The offspring of the wicked will never be mentioned again.

21. 너희는 그들의 열조의 죄악을 인하여 그 자손 도륙하기를 예비하여 그들로 일어나 땅을 취하여 세상에 성읍을 충만케 하지 못하게 하라
  Prepare a place to slaughter his sons for the sins of their forefathers; they are not to rise to inherit the land and cover the earth with their cities.

22. 만군의 여호와께서 말씀하시되 내가 일어나 그들을 쳐서 그 이름과 남은 자와 아들과 후손을 바벨론에서 끊으리라 나 여호와의 말이니라
  "I will rise up against them," declares the LORD Almighty. "I will cut off from Babylon her name and survivors, her offspring and descendants," declares the LORD.

23. 내가 또 그것으로 고슴도치의 굴혈과 물웅덩이가 되게 하고 또 멸망의 비로 소제하리라 나 만군의 여호와의 말이니라
  "I will turn her into a place for owls and into swampland; I will sweep her with the broom of destruction," declares the LORD Almighty.

24. 만군의 여호와께서 맹세하여 가라사대 나의 생각한 것이 반드시 되며 나의 경영한 것이 반드시 이루리라
  The LORD Almighty has sworn, "Surely, as I have planned, so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand.

25. 내가 앗수르 사람을 나의 땅에서 파하며 나의 산에서 발 아래 밟으리니 그 때에 그의 멍에가 이스라엘에게서 떠나고 그의 짐이 그들의 어깨에서 벗어질 것이라
  I will crush the Assyrian in my land; on my mountains I will trample him down. His yoke will be taken from my people, and his burden removed from their shoulders."

26. 이것이 온 세계를 향하여 정한 경영이며 이것이 열방을 향하여 편 손이라 하셨나니
  This is the plan determined for the whole world; this is the hand stretched out over all nations.

27. 만군의 여호와께서 경영하셨은즉 누가 능히 그것을 폐하며 그 손을 펴셨은즉 누가 능히 그것을 돌이키랴
  For the LORD Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart him? His hand is stretched out, and who can turn it back?

28. 아하스 왕의 죽던 해에 받은 경고라
  This oracle came in the year King Ahaz died:

29. 블레셋 온 땅이여 너를 치던 막대기가 부러졌다고 기뻐하지 말라 뱀의 뿌리에서는 독사가 나겠고 그 열매는 나는 불뱀이 되리라
  Do not rejoice, all you Philistines, that the rod that struck you is broken; from the root of that snake will spring up a viper, its fruit will be a darting, venomous serpent.

30. 가난한 자의 장자는 먹겠고 빈핍한 자는 평안히 누우려니와 내가 너의 뿌리를 기근으로 죽일 것이요 너의 남은 자는 살륙을 당하리라
  The poorest of the poor will find pasture, and the needy will lie down in safety. But your root I will destroy by famine; it will slay your survivors.

31. 성문이여 슬피 울찌어다 성읍이여 부르짖을찌어다 너 블레셋이여다 소멸되게 되었도다 대저 연기가 북방에서 오는데 그 항오를 떨어져 행하는 자 없느니라
  Wail, O gate! Howl, O city! Melt away, all you Philistines! A cloud of smoke comes from the north, and there is not a straggler in its ranks.

32. 그 나라 사신들에게 어떻게 대답하겠느냐 여호와께서 시온을 세우셨으니 그의 백성의 곤고한 자들이 그 안에서 피난하리라 할 것이니라
  What answer shall be given to the envoys of that nation? "The LORD has established Zion, and in her his afflicted people will find refuge."

베드로전서 2

1. 그러므로 모든 악독과 모든 궤휼과 외식과 시기와 모든 비방하는 말을 버리고
  Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

2. 갓난 아이들같이 순전하고 신령한 젖을 사모하라 이는 이로 말미암아 너희로 구원에 이르도록 자라게 하려 함이라
  Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

3. 너희가 주의 인자하심을 맛보았으면 그리하라
  now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

4. 사람에게는 버린 바가 되었으나 하나님께는 택하심을 입은 보배로운 산 돌이신 예수에게 나아와
  As you come to him, the living Stone--rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to him--

5. 너희도 산 돌 같이 신령한 집으로 세워지고 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 하나님이 기쁘게 받으실 신령한 제사를 드릴 거룩한 제사장이 될찌니라
  you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

6. 경에 기록하였으되 보라 내가 택한 보배롭고 요긴한 모퉁이 돌을 시온에 두노니 저를 믿는 자는 부끄러움을 당치 아니하리라 하였으니
  For in Scripture it says: "See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame."

7. 그러므로 믿는 너희에게는 보배이나 믿지 아니하는 자에게는 건축자들의 버린 그 돌이 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되고
  Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe, "The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone,"

8. 또한 부딪히는 돌과 거치는 반석이 되었다 하니라 저희가 말씀을 순종치 아니하므로 넘어지나니 이는 저희를 이렇게 정하신 것이라
  and, "A stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall." They stumble because they disobey the message--which is also what they were destined for.

9. 오직 너희는 택하신 족속이요 왕 같은 제사장들이요 거룩한 나라요 그의 소유된 백성이니 이는 너희를 어두운 데서 불러 내어 그의 기이한 빛에 들어가게 하신 자의 아름다운 덕을 선전하게 하려 하심이라
  But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

10. 너희가 전에는 백성이 아니더니 이제는 하나님의 백성이요 전에는 긍휼을 얻지 못하였더니 이제는 긍휼을 얻은 자니라
  Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

11. 사랑하는 자들아 나그네와 행인 같은 너희를 권하노니 영혼을 거스려 싸우는 육체의 정욕을 제어하라
  Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

12. 너희가 이방인 중에서 행실을 선하게 가져 너희를 악행한다고 비방하는 자들로 하여금 너희 선한 일을 보고 권고하시는 날에 하나님께 영광을 돌리게 하려 함이라
  Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

13. 인간에 세운 모든 제도를 주를 위하여 순복하되 혹은 위에 있는 왕이나
  Submit yourselves for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to the king, as the supreme authority,

14. 혹은 악행하는 자를 징벌하고 선행하는 자를 포장하기 위하여 그의 보낸 방백에게 하라
  or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right.

15. 곧 선행으로 어리석은 사람들의 무식한 말을 막으시는 것이라
  For it is God's will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men.

16. 자유하나 그 자유로 악을 가리우는 데 쓰지 말고 오직 하나님의 종과 같이 하라
  Live as free men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as servants of God.

17. 뭇 사람을 공경하며 형제를 사랑하며 하나님을 두려워하며 왕을 공경하라
  Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.

18. 사환들아 범사에 두려워함으로 주인들에게 순복하되 선하고 관용하는 자들에게만 아니라 또한 까다로운 자들에게도 그리하라
  Slaves, submit yourselves to your masters with all respect, not only to those who are good and considerate, but also to those who are harsh.

19. 애매히 고난을 받아도 하나님을 생각함으로 슬픔을 참으면 이는 아름다우나
  For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God.

20. 죄가 있어 매를 맞고 참으면 무슨 칭찬이 있으리요 오직 선을 행함으로 고난을 받고 참으면 이는 하나님 앞에 아름다우니라
  But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.

21. 이를 위하여 너희가 부르심을 입었으니 그리스도도 너희를 위하여 고난을 받으사 너희에게 본을 끼쳐 그 자취를 따라오게 하려 하셨느니라
  To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

22. 저는 죄를 범치 아니하시고 그 입에 궤사도 없으시며
  "He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth."

23. 욕을 받으시되 대신 욕하지 아니하시고 고난을 받으시되 위협하지 아니하시고 오직 공의로 심판하시는 자에게 부탁하시며
  When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

24. 친히 나무에 달려 그 몸으로 우리 죄를 담당하셨으니 이는 우리로 죄에 대하여 죽고 의에 대하여 살게 하려 하심이라 저가 채찍에 맞음으로 너희는 나음을 얻었나니
  He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.

25. 너희가 전에는 양과 같이 길을 잃었더니 이제는 너희 영혼의 목자와 감독 되신 이에게 돌아왔느니라
  For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
