민수기 11

1. 백성이 여호와의 들으시기에 악한 말로 원망하매 여호와께서 들으시고 진노하사 여호와의 불로 그들 중에 붙어서 진 끝을 사르게 하시매
  Now the people complained about their hardships in the hearing of the LORD, and when he heard them his anger was aroused. Then fire from the LORD burned among them and consumed some of the outskirts of the camp.

2. 백성이 모세에게 부르짖으므로 모세가 여호와께 기도하니 불이 꺼졌더라
  When the people cried out to Moses, he prayed to the LORD and the fire died down.

3. 그 곳 이름을 다베라라 칭하였으니 이는 여호와의 불이 그들 중에 붙은 연고였더라
  So that place was called Taberah, because fire from the LORD had burned among them.

4. 이스라엘 중에 섞여 사는 무리가 탐욕을 품으매 이스라엘 자손도 다시 울며 가로되 누가 우리에게 고기를 주어 먹게 할꼬
  The rabble with them began to crave other food, and again the Israelites started wailing and said, "If only we had meat to eat!

5. 우리가 애굽에 있을 때에는 값없이 생선과 외와 수박과 부추와 파와 마늘들을 먹은 것이 생각나거늘
  We remember the fish we ate in Egypt at no cost--also the cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions and garlic.

6. 이제는 우리 정력이 쇠약하되 이 만나 외에는 보이는 것이 아무것도 없도다 하니
  But now we have lost our appetite; we never see anything but this manna!"

7. 만나는 깟씨와 같고 모양은 진주와 같은 것이라
  The manna was like coriander seed and looked like resin.

8. 백성이 두루 다니며 그것을 거두어 맷돌에 갈기도 하며 절구에 찧기도 하고 가마에 삶기도 하여 과자를 만들었으니 그 맛이 기름 섞은 과자 맛 같았더라
  The people went around gathering it, and then ground it in a handmill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot or made it into cakes. And it tasted like something made with olive oil.

9. 밤에 이슬이 진에 내릴 때에 만나도 같이 내렸더라
  When the dew settled on the camp at night, the manna also came down.

10. 백성의 온 가족들이 각기 장막문에서 우는 것을 모세가 들으니라 이러므로 여호와의 진노가 심히 크고 모세도 기뻐하지 아니하여
  Moses heard the people of every family wailing, each at the entrance to his tent. The LORD became exceedingly angry, and Moses was troubled.

11. 여호와께 여짜오되 주께서 어찌하여 종을 괴롭게 하시나이까 어찌하여 나로 주의 목전에 은혜를 입게 아니하시고 이 모든 백성을 내게 맡기사 나로 그 짐을 지게 하시나이까
  He asked the LORD, "Why have you brought this trouble on your servant? What have I done to displease you that you put the burden of all these people on me?

12. 이 모든 백성을 내가 잉태하였나이까 내가 어찌 그들을 생산하였기에 주께서 나더러 양육하는 아비가 젖 먹는 아이를 품듯 그들을 품에 품고 주께서 그들의 열조에게 맹세하신 땅으로 가라 하시나이까
  Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth? Why do you tell me to carry them in my arms, as a nurse carries an infant, to the land you promised on oath to their forefathers?

13. 이 모든 백성에게 줄 고기를 내가 어디서 얻으리이까 그들이 나를 향하여 울며 가로되 우리에게 고기를 주어 먹게 하라 하온즉
  Where can I get meat for all these people? They keep wailing to me, 'Give us meat to eat!'

14. 책임이 심히 중하여 나 혼자는 이 모든 백성을 질 수 없나이다
  I cannot carry all these people by myself; the burden is too heavy for me.

15. 주께서 내게 이같이 행하실찐대 구하옵나니 내게 은혜를 베푸사 즉시 나를 죽여 나로 나의 곤고함을 보지 않게 하옵소서
  If this is how you are going to treat me, put me to death right now--if I have found favor in your eyes--and do not let me face my own ruin."

16. 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 이스라엘 노인 중 백성의 장로와 유사 되는 줄을 네가 아는 자 칠십 인을 모아 데리고 회막 내 앞에 이르러 거기서 너와 함께 서게 하라
  The LORD said to Moses: "Bring me seventy of Israel's elders who are known to you as leaders and officials among the people. Have them come to the Tent of Meeting, that they may stand there with you.

17. 내가 강림하여 거기서 너와 말하고 네게 임한 신을 그들에게도 임하게 하리니 그들이 너와 함께 백성의 짐을 담당하고 너 혼자 지지 아니하리라
  I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take of the Spirit that is on you and put the Spirit on them. They will help you carry the burden of the people so that you will not have to carry it alone.

18. 또 백성에게 이르기를 너희 몸을 거룩히 하여 내일 고기 먹기를 기다리라 너희가 울며 이르기를 누가 우리에게 고기를 주어 먹게 할꼬 애굽에 있을 때가 우리에게 재미있었다 하는 말이 여호와께 들렸으므로 여호와께서 너희에게 고기를 주어 먹게 하실 것이라
  "Tell the people: 'Consecrate yourselves in preparation for tomorrow, when you will eat meat. The LORD heard you when you wailed, "If only we had meat to eat! We were better off in Egypt!" Now the LORD will give you meat, and you will eat it.

19. 하루나 이틀이나 닷새나 열흘이나 이십 일만 먹을 뿐 아니라
  You will not eat it for just one day, or two days, or five, ten or twenty days,

20. 코에서 넘쳐서 싫어하기까지 일 개월간을 먹게 하시리니 이는 너희가 너희 중에 거하시는 여호와를 멸시하고 그 앞에서 울며 이르기를 우리가 어찌하여 애굽에서 나왔던고 함이라 하라
  but for a whole month--until it comes out of your nostrils and you loathe it--because you have rejected the LORD, who is among you, and have wailed before him, saying, "Why did we ever leave Egypt?" '"

21. 모세가 가로되 나와 함께 있는 이 백성의 보행자가 육십만 명이온데 주의 말씀이 일 개월간 고기를 주어 먹게 하겠다 하시오니
  But Moses said, "Here I am among six hundred thousand men on foot, and you say, 'I will give them meat to eat for a whole month!'

22. 그들을 위하여 양 떼와 소 떼를 잡은들 족하오며 바다의 모든 고기를 모은들 족하오리이까
  Would they have enough if flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? Would they have enough if all the fish in the sea were caught for them?"

23. 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 여호와의 손이 짧아졌느냐 네가 이제 내 말이 네게 응하는 여부를 보리라
  The LORD answered Moses, "Is the LORD'S arm too short? You will now see whether or not what I say will come true for you."

24. 모세가 나가서 여호와의 말씀을 백성에게 고하고 백성의 장로 칠십 인을 모아 장막에 둘러 세우매
  So Moses went out and told the people what the LORD had said. He brought together seventy of their elders and had them stand around the Tent.

25. 여호와께서 구름 가운데 강림하사 모세에게 말씀하시고 그에게 임한 신을 칠십 장로에게도 임하게 하시니 신이 임하신 때에 그들이 예언을 하다가 다시는 아니하였더라
  Then the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke with him, and he took of the Spirit that was on him and put the Spirit on the seventy elders. When the Spirit rested on them, they prophesied, but they did not do so again.

26. 그 녹명된 자 중 엘닷이라 하는 자와 메닷이라 하는 자 두 사람이 진에 머물고 회막에 나아가지 아니하였으나 그들에게도 신이 임하였으므로 진에서 예언한지라
  However, two men, whose names were Eldad and Medad, had remained in the camp. They were listed among the elders, but did not go out to the Tent. Yet the Spirit also rested on them, and they prophesied in the camp.

27. 한 소년이 달려와서 모세에게 고하여 가로되 엘닷과 메닷이 진중에서 예언하더이다 하매
  A young man ran and told Moses, "Eldad and Medad are prophesying in the camp."

28. 택한 자 중 한 사람 곧 모세를 섬기는 눈의 아들 여호수아가 말하여 가로되 내 주 모세여 금하소서
  Joshua son of Nun, who had been Moses' aide since youth, spoke up and said, "Moses, my lord, stop them!"

29. 모세가 그에게 이르되 네가 나를 위하여 시기하느냐 여호와께서 그 신을 그 모든 백성에게 주사 다 선지자 되게 하시기를 원하노라
  But Moses replied, "Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the LORD'S people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them!"

30. 모세와 이스라엘 장로들이 진중으로 돌아왔더라
  Then Moses and the elders of Israel returned to the camp.

31. 바람이 여호와에게로서 나와 바다에서부터 메추라기를 몰아 진 곁 이편 저편 곧 진 사방으로 각기 하룻길 되는 지면 위 두 규빗쯤에 내리게 한지라
  Now a wind went out from the LORD and drove quail in from the sea. It brought them down all around the camp to about three feet above the ground, as far as a day's walk in any direction.

32. 백성이 일어나 종일 종야와 그 이튿날 종일토록 메추라기를 모으니 적게 모은 자도 십 호멜이라 그들이 자기를 위하여 진 사면에 펴 두었더라
  All that day and night and all the next day the people went out and gathered quail. No one gathered less than ten homers. Then they spread them out all around the camp.

33. 고기가 아직 잇사이에 있어 씹히기 전에 여호와께서 백성에게 대하여 진노하사 심히 큰 재앙으로 치셨으므로
  But while the meat was still between their teeth and before it could be consumed, the anger of the LORD burned against the people, and he struck them with a severe plague.

34. 그 곳 이름을 기브롯 핫다아와라 칭하였으니 탐욕을 낸 백성을 거기 장사함이었더라
  Therefore the place was named Kibroth Hattaavah, because there they buried the people who had craved other food.

35. 백성이 기브롯 핫다아와에서 진행하여 하세롯에 이르러 거기 거하니라
  From Kibroth Hattaavah the people traveled to Hazeroth and stayed there.

시편 48

1. 여호와는 광대하시니 우리 하나님의 성, 거룩한 산에서 극진히 찬송하리로다
  A song. A psalm of the Sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and most worthy of praise, in the city of our God, his holy mountain.

2. 터가 높고 아름다워 온 세계가 즐거워함이여 큰 왕의 성 곧 북방에 있는 시온 산이 그러하도다
  It is beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth. Like the utmost heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion, the city of the Great King.

3. 하나님이 그 여러 궁중에서 자기를 피난처로 알리셨도다
  God is in her citadels; he has shown himself to be her fortress.

4. 열왕이 모여 함께 지났음이여
  When the kings joined forces, when they advanced together,

5. 저희가 보고 놀라고 두려워 빨리 갔도다
  they saw her and were astounded; they fled in terror.

6. 거기서 떨림이 저희를 잡으니 고통이 해산하는 여인 같도다
  Trembling seized them there, pain like that of a woman in labor.

7. 주께서 동풍으로 다시스의 배를 깨뜨리시도다
  You destroyed them like ships of Tarshish shattered by an east wind.

8. 우리가 들은 대로 만군의 여호와의 성, 우리 하나님의 성에서 보았나니 하나님이 이를 영영히 견고케 하시리로다 (셀라)
  As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the LORD Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever. Selah

9. 하나님이여 우리가 주의 전 가운데서 주의 인자하심을 생각하였나이다
  Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love.

10. 하나님이여 주의 이름과 같이 찬송도 땅 끝까지 미쳤으며 주의 오른손에는 정의가 충만하였나이다
  Like your name, O God, your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with righteousness.

11. 주의 판단을 인하여 시온산은 기뻐하고 유다의 딸들은 즐거워할찌어다
  Mount Zion rejoices, the villages of Judah are glad because of your judgments.

12. 너희는 시온을 편답하고 그것을 순행하며 그 망대들을 계수하라
  Walk about Zion, go around her, count her towers,

13. 그 성벽을 자세히 보고 그 궁전을 살펴서 후대에 전하라
  consider well her ramparts, view her citadels, that you may tell of them to the next generation.

14. 이 하나님은 영영히 우리 하나님이시니 우리를 죽을 때까지 인도하시리로다
  For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end.

■ 혼자 읽기

이사야 1

1. 유다 왕 웃시야와 요담과 아하스와 히스기야 시대에 아모스의 아들 이사야가 유다와 예루살렘에 대하여 본 이상이라
  The vision concerning Judah and Jerusalem that Isaiah son of Amoz saw during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.

2. 하늘이여 들으라 땅이여 귀를 기울이라 여호와께서 말씀하시기를 내가 자식을 양육하였거늘 그들이 나를 거역하였도다
  Hear, O heavens! Listen, O earth! For the LORD has spoken: "I reared children and brought them up, but they have rebelled against me.

3. 소는 그 임자를 알고 나귀는 주인의 구유를 알건마는 이스라엘은 알지 못하고 나의 백성은 깨닫지 못하는도다 하셨도다
  The ox knows his master, the donkey his owner's manger, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand."

4. 슬프다 범죄한 나라요 허물진 백성이요 행악의 종자요 행위가 부패한 자식이로다 그들이 여호와를 버리며 이스라엘의 거룩한 자를 만홀히 여겨 멀리하고 물러갔도다
  Ah, sinful nation, a people loaded with guilt, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the LORD; they have spurned the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him.

5. 너희가 어찌하여 매를 더 맞으려고 더욱 더욱 패역하느냐 온 머리는 병들었고 온 마음은 피곤하였으며
  Why should you be beaten anymore? Why do you persist in rebellion? Your whole head is injured, your whole heart afflicted.

6. 발바닥에서 머리까지 성한 곳이 없이 상한 것과 터진 것과 새로 맞은 흔적뿐이어늘 그것을 짜며 싸매며 기름으로 유하게 함을 받지 못하였도다
  From the sole of your foot to the top of your head there is no soundness--only wounds and welts and open sores, not cleansed or bandaged or soothed with oil.

7. 너희 땅은 황무하였고 너희 성읍들은 불에 탔고 너희 토지는 너희 목전에 이방인에게 삼키웠으며 이방인에게 파괴됨같이 황무 하였고
  Your country is desolate, your cities burned with fire; your fields are being stripped by foreigners right before you, laid waste as when overthrown by strangers.

8. 딸 시온은 포도원의 망대같이, 원두밭의 상직막같이, 에워싸인 성읍같이 겨우 남았도다
  The Daughter of Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut in a field of melons, like a city under siege.

9. 만군의 여호와께서 우리를 위하여 조금 남겨 두지 아니하셨더면 우리가 소돔 같고 고모라 같았었으리로다
  Unless the LORD Almighty had left us some survivors, we would have become like Sodom, we would have been like Gomorrah.

10. 너희 소돔의 관원들아 여호와의 말씀을 들을찌어다 너희 고모라의 백성아 우리 하나님의 법에 귀를 기울일찌어다
  Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom; listen to the law of our God, you people of Gomorrah!

11. 여호와께서 말씀하시되 너희의 무수한 제물이 내게 무엇이 유익하뇨 나는 수양의 번제와 살진 짐승의 기름에 배불렀고 나는 수송아지나 어린 양이나 수염소의 피를 기뻐하지 아니하노라
  "The multitude of your sacrifices--what are they to me?" says the LORD. "I have more than enough of burnt offerings, of rams and the fat of fattened animals; I have no pleasure in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats.

12. 너희가 내 앞에 보이러 오니 그것을 누가 너희에게 요구하였느뇨 내 마당만 밟을 뿐이니라
  When you come to appear before me, who has asked this of you, this trampling of my courts?

13. 헛된 제물을 다시 가져오지 말라 분향은 나의 가증히 여기는 바요 월삭과 안식일과 대회로 모이는 것도 그러하니 성회와 아울러 악을 행하는 것을 내가 견디지 못하겠노라
  Stop bringing meaningless offerings! Your incense is detestable to me. New Moons, Sabbaths and convocations--I cannot bear your evil assemblies.

14. 내 마음이 너희의 월삭과 정한 절기를 싫어하나니 그것이 내게 무거운 짐이라 내가 지기에 곤비하였느니라
  Your New Moon festivals and your appointed feasts my soul hates. They have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them.

15. 너희가 손을 펼 때에 내가 눈을 가리우고 너희가 많이 기도할찌라도 내가 듣지 아니하리니 이는 너희의 손에 피가 가득함이니라
  When you spread out your hands in prayer, I will hide my eyes from you; even if you offer many prayers, I will not listen. Your hands are full of blood;

16. 너희는 스스로 씻으며 스스로 깨끗케 하여 내 목전에서 너희 악업을 버리며 악행을 그치고
  wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight! Stop doing wrong,

17. 선행을 배우며 공의를 구하며 학대받는 자를 도와 주며 고아를 위하여 신원하며 과부를 위하여 변호하라 하셨느니라
  learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.

18. 여호와께서 말씀하시되 오라 우리가 서로 변론하자 너희 죄가 주홍 같을찌라도 눈과 같이 희어질 것이요 진홍 같이 붉을찌라도 양털 같이 되리라
  "Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.

19. 너희가 즐겨 순종하면 땅의 아름다운 소산을 먹을 것이요
  If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the best from the land;

20. 너희가 거절하여 배반하면 칼에 삼키우리라 여호와의 입의 말씀이니라
  but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword." For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

21. 신실하던 성읍이 어찌하여 창기가 되었는고 공평이 거기 충만하였고 의리가 그 가운데 거하였었더니 이제는 살인자들 뿐이었도다
  See how the faithful city has become a harlot! She once was full of justice; righteousness used to dwell in her--but now murderers!

22. 네 은은 찌끼가 되었고 너의 포도주에는 물이 섞였도다
  Your silver has become dross, your choice wine is diluted with water.

23. 네 방백들은 패역하여 도적과 짝하며 다 뇌물을 사랑하며 사례물을 구하며 고아를 위하여 신원치 아니하며 과부의 송사를 수리치 아니하는도다
  Your rulers are rebels, companions of thieves; they all love bribes and chase after gifts. They do not defend the cause of the fatherless; the widow's case does not come before them.

24. 그러므로 주 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 전능자가 말씀하시되 슬프다 내가 장차 내 대적에게 보응하여 내 마음을 편케 하겠고 내 원수에게 보수하겠으며
  Therefore the Lord, the LORD Almighty, the Mighty One of Israel, declares: "Ah, I will get relief from my foes and avenge myself on my enemies.

25. 내가 또 나의 손을 네게 돌려 너의 찌끼를 온전히 청결하여 버리며 너의 혼잡물을 다 제하여 버리고
  I will turn my hand against you; I will thoroughly purge away your dross and remove all your impurities.

26. 내가 너의 사사들을 처음과 같이, 너의 모사들을 본래와 같이 회복할 것이라 그리한 후에야 네가 의의 성읍이라, 신실한 고을이라 칭함이 되리라 하셨나니
  I will restore your judges as in days of old, your counselors as at the beginning. Afterward you will be called the City of Righteousness, the Faithful City."

27. 시온은 공평으로 구속이 되고 그 귀정한 자는 의로 구속이 되리라
  Zion will be redeemed with justice, her penitent ones with righteousness.

28. 그러나 패역한 자와 죄인은 함께 패망하고 여호와를 버린 자도 멸망할 것이라
  But rebels and sinners will both be broken, and those who forsake the LORD will perish.

29. 너희가 너희의 기뻐하던 상수리나무로 인하여 부끄러움을 당할 것이요 너희가 너희의 택한 동산으로 인하여 수치를 당할 것이며
  "You will be ashamed because of the sacred oaks in which you have delighted; you will be disgraced because of the gardens that you have chosen.

30. 너희는 잎사귀 마른 상수리나무 같을 것이요 물 없는 동산 같으리니
  You will be like an oak with fading leaves, like a garden without water.

31. 강한 자는 삼오라기 같고 그의 행위는 불티 같아서 함께 탈 것이나 끌 사람이 없으리라
  The mighty man will become tinder and his work a spark; both will burn together, with no one to quench the fire."

히브리서 9

1. 첫 언약에도 섬기는 예법과 세상에 속한 성소가 있더라
  Now the first covenant had regulations for worship and also an earthly sanctuary.

2. 예비한 첫 장막이 있고 그 안에 등대와 상과 진설병이 있으니 이는 성소라 일컫고
  A tabernacle was set up. In its first room were the lampstand, the table and the consecrated bread; this was called the Holy Place.

3. 또 둘째 휘장 뒤에 있는 장막을 지성소라 일컫나니
  Behind the second curtain was a room called the Most Holy Place,

4. 금향로와 사면을 금으로 싼 언약궤가 있고 그 안에 만나를 담은 금항아리와 아론의 싹난 지팡이와 언약의 비석들이 있고
  which had the golden altar of incense and the gold-covered ark of the covenant. This ark contained the gold jar of manna, Aaron's staff that had budded, and the stone tablets of the covenant.

5. 그 위에 속죄소를 덮는 영광의 그룹들이 있으니 이것들에 관하여는 이제 낱낱이 말할 수 없노라
  Above the ark were the cherubim of the Glory, overshadowing the atonement cover. But we cannot discuss these things in detail now.

6. 이 모든 것을 이같이 예비하였으니 제사장들이 항상 첫 장막에 들어가 섬기는 예를 행하고
  When everything had been arranged like this, the priests entered regularly into the outer room to carry on their ministry.

7. 오직 둘째 장막은 대제사장이 홀로 일 년 일 차씩 들어가되 피 없이는 아니하나니 이 피는 자기와 백성의 허물을 위하여 드리는 것이라
  But only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.

8. 성령이 이로써 보이신 것은 첫 장막이 서 있을 동안에 성소에 들어가는 길이 아직 나타나지 아니한 것이라
  The Holy Spirit was showing by this that the way into the Most Holy Place had not yet been disclosed as long as the first tabernacle was still standing.

9. 이 장막은 현재까지의 비유니 이에 의지하여 드리는 예물과 제사가 섬기는 자로 그 양심상으로 온전케 할 수 없나니
  This is an illustration for the present time, indicating that the gifts and sacrifices being offered were not able to clear the conscience of the worshiper.

10. 이런 것은 먹고 마시는 것과 여러 가지 씻는 것과 함께 육체의 예법만 되어 개혁할 때까지 맡겨 둔 것이니라
  They are only a matter of food and drink and various ceremonial washings--external regulations applying until the time of the new order.

11. 그리스도께서 장래 좋은 일의 대제사장으로 오사 손으로 짓지 아니한 곧 이 창조에 속하지 아니한 더 크고 온전한 장막으로 말미암아
  When Christ came as high priest of the good things that are already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not man-made, that is to say, not a part of this creation.

12. 염소와 송아지의 피로 아니하고 오직 자기 피로 영원한 속죄를 이루사 단번에 성소에 들어가셨느니라
  He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, having obtained eternal redemption.

13. 염소와 황소의 피와 및 암송아지의 재로 부정한 자에게 뿌려 그 육체를 정결케 하여 거룩케 하거든
  The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean.

14. 하물며 영원하신 성령으로 말미암아 흠 없는 자기를 하나님께 드린 그리스도의 피가 어찌 너희 양심으로 죽은 행실에서 깨끗하게 하고 살아 계신 하나님을 섬기게 못하겠느뇨
  How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

15. 이를 인하여 그는 새 언약의 중보니 이는 첫 언약 때에 범한 죄를 속하려고 죽으사 부르심을 입은 자로 하여금 영원한 기업의 약속을 얻게 하려 하심이니라
  For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance--now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.

16. 유언은 유언한 자가 죽어야 되나니
  In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it,

17. 유언은 그 사람이 죽은 후에야 견고한즉 유언한 자가 살았을 때에는 언제든지 효력이 없느니라
  because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living.

18. 이러므로 첫 언약도 피 없이 세운 것이 아니니
  This is why even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood.

19. 모세가 율법대로 모든 계명을 온 백성에게 말한 후에 송아지와 염소의 피와 및 물과 붉은 양털과 우슬초를 취하여 그 책과 온 백성에게 뿌려
  When Moses had proclaimed every commandment of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves, together with water, scarlet wool and branches of hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people.

20. 이르되 이는 하나님이 너희에게 명하신 언약의 피라 하고
  He said, "This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep."

21. 또한 이와 같이 피로써 장막과 섬기는 일에 쓰는 모든 그릇에 뿌렸느니라
  In the same way, he sprinkled with the blood both the tabernacle and everything used in its ceremonies.

22. 율법을 좇아 거의 모든 물건이 피로써 정결케 되나니 피 흘림이 없은즉 사함이 없느니라
  In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

23. 그러므로 하늘에 있는 것들의 모형은 이런 것들로써 정결케 할 필요가 있었으나 하늘에 있는 그것들은 이런 것들보다 더 좋은 제물로 할찌니라
  It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

24. 그리스도께서는 참 것의 그림자인 손으로 만든 성소에 들어가지 아니하시고 오직 참 하늘에 들어가사 이제 우리를 위하여 하나님 앞에 나타나시고
  For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God's presence.

25. 대제사장이 해마다 다른 것의 피로써 성소에 들어가는 것 같이 자주 자기를 드리려고 아니하실찌니
  Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own.

26. 그리하면 그가 세상을 창조할 때부터 자주 고난을 받았어야 할 것이로되 이제 자기를 단번에 제사로 드려 죄를 없게 하시려고 세상 끝에 나타나셨느니라
  Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.

27. 한 번 죽는 것은 사람에게 정하신 것이요 그 후에는 심판이 있으리니
  Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,

28. 이와 같이 그리스도도 많은 사람의 죄를 담당하시려고 단번에 드리신 바 되셨고 구원에 이르게 하기 위하여 죄와 상관 없이 자기를 바라는 자들에게 두 번째 나타나시리라
  so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
