열왕기하 17

1. 유다 왕 아하스 십이년에 엘라의 아들 호세아가 사마리아에서 이스라엘 왕이 되어 구 년을 치리하며
  In the twelfth year of Ahaz king of Judah, Hoshea son of Elah became king of Israel in Samaria, and he reigned nine years.

2. 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하였으나 그전 이스라엘 여러 왕들과 같이 하지는 아니하였더라
  He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, but not like the kings of Israel who preceded him.

3. 앗수르 왕 살만에셀이 올라와서 호세아를 친 고로 호세아가 신복하여 조공을 드리더니
  Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up to attack Hoshea, who had been Shalmaneser's vassal and had paid him tribute.

4. 저가 애굽 왕 소에게 사자들을 보내고 해마다 하던 대로 앗수르 왕에게 조공을 드리지 아니하매 앗수르 왕이 호세아의 배반함을 보고 저를 옥에 금고하여 두고
  But the king of Assyria discovered that Hoshea was a traitor, for he had sent envoys to So king of Egypt, and he no longer paid tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore Shalmaneser seized him and put him in prison.

5. 올라와서 그 온 땅에 두루 다니고 사마리아로 올라와서 삼 년을 에워쌌더라
  The king of Assyria invaded the entire land, marched against Samaria and laid siege to it for three years.

6. 호세아 구년에 앗수르 왕이 사마리아를 취하고 이스라엘 사람을 사로잡아 앗수르로 끌어다가 할라와 고산 하볼 하숫가와 메대 사람의 여러 고을에 두었더라
  In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria captured Samaria and deported the Israelites to Assyria. He settled them in Halah, in Gozan on the Habor River and in the towns of the Medes.

7. 이 일은 이스라엘 자손이 자기를 애굽에서 인도하여 내사 애굽 왕 바로의 손에서 벗어나게 하신 그 하나님 여호와께 죄를 범하고 또 다른 신들을 경외하며
  All this took place because the Israelites had sinned against the LORD their God, who had brought them up out of Egypt from under the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. They worshiped other gods

8. 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 쫓아내신 이방 사람의 규례와 이스라엘 여러 왕의 세운 율례를 행하였음이라
  and followed the practices of the nations the LORD had driven out before them, as well as the practices that the kings of Israel had introduced.

9. 이스라엘 자손이 가만히 불의를 행하여 그 하나님 여호와를 배역하여 모든 성읍에 망대로부터 견고한 성에 이르도록 산당을 세우고
  The Israelites secretly did things against the LORD their God that were not right. From watchtower to fortified city they built themselves high places in all their towns.

10. 모든 산 위에와 모든 푸른 나무 아래에 목상과 아세라상을 세우고
  They set up sacred stones and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every spreading tree.

11. 또 여호와께서 저희 앞에서 물리치신 이방 사람같이 그 곳 모든 산당에서 분향하며 또 악을 행하여 여호와를 격노케 하였으며
  At every high place they burned incense, as the nations whom the LORD had driven out before them had done. They did wicked things that provoked the LORD to anger.

12. 또 우상을 섬겼으니 이는 여호와께서 행치 말라 명하신 일이라
  They worshiped idols, though the LORD had said, "You shall not do this."

13. 여호와께서 각 선지자와 각 선견자로 이스라엘과 유다를 경계하여 이르시기를 너희는 돌이켜 너희 악한 길에서 떠나 나의 명령과 율례를 지키되 내가 너희 열조에게 명하고 또 나의 종 선지자들로 너희에게 전한 모든 율법대로 행하라 하셨으나
  The LORD warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and seers: "Turn from your evil ways. Observe my commands and decrees, in accordance with the entire Law that I commanded your fathers to obey and that I delivered to you through my servants the prophets."

14. 저희가 듣지 아니하고 그 목을 굳게 하기를 그 하나님 여호와를 믿지 아니하던 저희 열조의 목같이 하여
  But they would not listen and were as stiff-necked as their fathers, who did not trust in the LORD their God.

15. 여호와의 율례와 여호와께서 그 열조로 더불어 세우신 언약과 경계하신 말씀을 버리고 허무한 것을 좇아 허망하며 또 여호와께서 명하사 본받지 말라 하신 사면 이방 사람을 본받아
  They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their fathers and the warnings he had given them. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the LORD had ordered them, "Do not do as they do," and they did the things the LORD had forbidden them to do.

16. 그 하나님 여호와의 모든 명령을 버리고 자기를 위하여 두 송아지 형상을 부어 만들고 또 아세라 목상을 만들고 하늘의 일월성신을 숭배하며 또 바알을 섬기고
  They forsook all the commands of the LORD their God and made for themselves two idols cast in the shape of calves, and an Asherah pole. They bowed down to all the starry hosts, and they worshiped Baal.

17. 또 자기 자녀를 불 가운데로 지나가게 하며 복술과 사술을 행하고 스스로 팔려 여호와 보시기에 악을 행하여 그 노를 격발케 하였으므로
  They sacrificed their sons and daughters in the fire. They practiced divination and sorcery and sold themselves to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, provoking him to anger.

18. 여호와께서 이스라엘을 심히 노하사 그 앞에서 제하시니 유다 지파 외에는 남은 자가 없으니라
  So the LORD was very angry with Israel and removed them from his presence. Only the tribe of Judah was left,

19. 유다도 그 하나님 여호와의 명령을 지키지 아니하고 이스라엘 사람의 세운 율례를 행하였으므로
  and even Judah did not keep the commands of the LORD their God. They followed the practices Israel had introduced.

20. 여호와께서 이스라엘의 온 족속을 버리사 괴롭게 하시며 노략군의 손에 붙이시고 심지어 그 앞에서 쫓아내시니라
  Therefore the LORD rejected all the people of Israel; he afflicted them and gave them into the hands of plunderers, until he thrust them from his presence.

21. 이스라엘을 다윗의 집에서 찢어 나누시매 저희가 느밧의 아들 여로보암으로 왕을 삼았더니 여로보암이 이스라엘을 몰아 여호와를 떠나고 큰 죄를 범하게 하매
  When he tore Israel away from the house of David, they made Jeroboam son of Nebat their king. Jeroboam enticed Israel away from following the LORD and caused them to commit a great sin.

22. 이스라엘 자손이 여로보암의 행한 모든 죄를 따라 행하여 떠나지 아니하므로
  The Israelites persisted in all the sins of Jeroboam and did not turn away from them

23. 여호와께서 그 종 모든 선지자로 하신 말씀대로 심지어 이스라엘을 그 앞에서 제하신지라 이스라엘이 고향에서 앗수르에 사로잡혀 가서 오늘까지 미쳤더라
  until the LORD removed them from his presence, as he had warned through all his servants the prophets. So the people of Israel were taken from their homeland into exile in Assyria, and they are still there.

24. 앗수르 왕이 바벨론과 구다와 아와와 하맛과 스발와임에서 사람을 옮겨다가 이스라엘 자손을 대신하여 사마리아 여러 성읍에 두매 저희가 사마리아를 차지하여 그 여러 성읍에 거하니라
  The king of Assyria brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Avva, Hamath and Sepharvaim and settled them in the towns of Samaria to replace the Israelites. They took over Samaria and lived in its towns.

25. 저희가 처음으로 거기 거할 때에 여호와를 경외치 아니한 고로 여호와께서 사자들을 그 가운데 보내시매 몇 사람을 죽인지라
  When they first lived there, they did not worship the LORD; so he sent lions among them and they killed some of the people.

26. 그러므로 혹이 앗수르 왕에게 고하여 가로되 왕께서 사마리아 여러 성읍에 옮겨 거하게 하신 열방 사람이 그 땅 신의 법을 알지 못하므로 그 신이 사자들을 저희 가운데 보내매 저희를 죽였사오니 이는 저희가 그 땅 신의 법을 알지 못함이니이다
  It was reported to the king of Assyria: "The people you deported and resettled in the towns of Samaria do not know what the god of that country requires. He has sent lions among them, which are killing them off, because the people do not know what he requires."

27. 앗수르 왕이 명하여 가로되 너희는 그 곳에서 사로잡아 온 제사장 하나를 그 곳으로 데려가되 저로 그 곳에 가서 거하며 그 땅 신의 법으로 무리에게 가르치게 하라
  Then the king of Assyria gave this order: "Have one of the priests you took captive from Samaria go back to live there and teach the people what the god of the land requires."

28. 이에 사마리아에서 사로잡혀 간 제사장 중 하나가 와서 벧엘에 거하며 백성에게 어떻게 여호와 경외할 것을 가르쳤더라
  So one of the priests who had been exiled from Samaria came to live in Bethel and taught them how to worship the LORD.

29. 그러나 각 민족이 각기 자기의 신상들을 만들어 사마리아 사람의 지은 여러 산당에 두되 각 민족이 자기의 거한 성읍에서 그렇게 하여
  Nevertheless, each national group made its own gods in the several towns where they settled, and set them up in the shrines the people of Samaria had made at the high places.

30. 바벨론 사람들은 숙곳브놋을 만들었고 굿 사람들은 네르갈을 만들었고 하맛 사람들은 아시마를 만들었고
  The men from Babylon made Succoth Benoth, the men from Cuthah made Nergal, and the men from Hamath made Ashima;

31. 아와 사람들은 닙하스와 다르닥을 만들었고 스발와임 사람들은 그 자녀를 불살라 그 신 아드람멜렉과 아남멜렉에게 드렸으며
  the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak, and the Sepharvites burned their children in the fire as sacrifices to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim.

32. 저희가 또 여호와를 경외하여 자기 중에서 사람을 산당의 제사장으로 택하여 그 산당에서 자기를 위하여 제사를 드리게 하니라
  They worshiped the LORD, but they also appointed all sorts of their own people to officiate for them as priests in the shrines at the high places.

33. 이와 같이 저희가 여호와도 경외하고 또한 어디서부터 옮겨 왔든지 그 민족의 풍속대로 자기의 신들도 섬겼더라
  They worshiped the LORD, but they also served their own gods in accordance with the customs of the nations from which they had been brought.

34. 저희가 오늘까지 이전 풍속대로 행하여 여호와를 경외치 아니하며 또 여호와께서 이스라엘이라 이름을 주신 야곱의 자손에게 명하신 율례와 법도와 율법과 계명을 준행치 아니하는도다
  To this day they persist in their former practices. They neither worship the LORD nor adhere to the decrees and ordinances, the laws and commands that the LORD gave the descendants of Jacob, whom he named Israel.

35. 옛적에 여호와께서 야곱의 자손에게 언약을 세우시고 저희에게 명하여 가라사대 너희는 다른 신을 경외하지 말며 그를 숭배하지 말며 그를 섬기지 말며 그에게 제사하지 말고
  When the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites, he commanded them: "Do not worship any other gods or bow down to them, serve them or sacrifice to them.

36. 오직 큰 능력과 편 팔로 너희를 애굽에서 인도하여 낸 여호와만 너희가 경외하여 그를 숭배하며 그에게 제사를 드릴 것이며
  But the LORD, who brought you up out of Egypt with mighty power and outstretched arm, is the one you must worship. To him you shall bow down and to him offer sacrifices.

37. 또 여호와가 너희를 위하여 기록한 율례와 법도와 율법과 계명을 너희가 지켜 영원히 행하고 다른 신들을 경외치 말며
  You must always be careful to keep the decrees and ordinances, the laws and commands he wrote for you. Do not worship other gods.

38. 또 내가 너희와 세운 언약을 잊지 말며 다른 신들을 경외치 말고
  Do not forget the covenant I have made with you, and do not worship other gods.

39. 오직 너희 하나님 여호와를 경외하라 그가 너희를 모든 원수의 손에서 건져내리라 하셨으나
  Rather, worship the LORD your God; it is he who will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies."

40. 그러나 저희가 듣지 아니하고 오히려 이전 풍속대로 행하였느니라
  They would not listen, however, but persisted in their former practices.

41. 그 여러 민족이 여호와를 경외하고 또 그 아로새긴 우상을 섬기더니 그 자자 손손이 그 열조의 행한 것을 좇아 오늘까지 그대로 하니라
  Even while these people were worshiping the LORD, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their fathers did.

디도서 3

1. 너는 저희로 하여금 정사와 권세 잡은 자들에게 복종하며 순종하며 모든 선한 일 행하기를 예비하게 하며
  Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,

2. 아무도 훼방하지 말며 다투지 말며 관용하며 범사에 온유함을 모든 사람에게 나타낼 것을 기억하게 하라
  to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.

3. 우리도 전에는 어리석은 자요 순종치 아니한 자요 속은 자요 각색 정욕과 행락에 종 노릇 한 자요 악독과 투기로 지낸 자요 가증스러운 자요 피차 미워한 자이었으나
  At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.

4. 우리 구주 하나님의 자비와 사람 사랑하심을 나타내실 때에
  But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,

5. 우리를 구원하시되 우리의 행한 바 의로운 행위로 말미암지 아니하고 오직 그의 긍휼하심을 좇아 중생의 씻음과 성령의 새롭게 하심으로 하셨나니
  he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

6. 성령을 우리 구주 예수 그리스도로 말미암아 우리에게 풍성히 부어 주사
  whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,

7. 우리로 저의 은혜를 힘입어 의롭다 하심을 얻어 영생의 소망을 따라 후사가 되게 하려 하심이라
  so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

8. 이 말이 미쁘도다 원컨대 네가 이 여러 것에 대하여 굳세게 말하라 이는 하나님을 믿는 자들로 하여금 조심하여 선한 일을 힘쓰게 하려 함이라 이것은 아름다우며 사람들에게 유익하니라
  This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

9. 그러나 어리석은 변론과 족보 이야기와 분쟁과 율법에 대한 다툼을 피하라 이것은 무익한 것이요 헛된 것이니라
  But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.

10. 이단에 속한 사람을 한두 번 훈계한 후에 멀리 하라
  Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him.

11. 이러한 사람은 네가 아는 바와 같이 부패하여서 스스로 정죄한 자로서 죄를 짓느니라
  You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.

12. 내가 아데마나 두기고를 네게 보내리니 그 때에 네가 급히 니고볼리로 내게 오라 내가 거기서 과동하기로 작정하였노라
  As soon as I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, do your best to come to me at Nicopolis, because I have decided to winter there.

13. 교법사 세나와 및 아볼로를 급히 먼저 보내어 저희로 궁핍함이 없게 하고
  Do everything you can to help Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their way and see that they have everything they need.

14. 또 우리 사람들도 열매 없는 자가 되지 않게 하기 위하여 필요한 것을 예비하는 좋은 일에 힘쓰기를 배우게 하라
  Our people must learn to devote themselves to doing what is good, in order that they may provide for daily necessities and not live unproductive lives.

15. 나와 함께 있는 자가 다 네게 문안하니 믿음 안에서 우리를 사랑하는 자들에게 너도 문안하라 은혜가 너희 무리에게 있을찌어다
  Everyone with me sends you greetings. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all.

■ 혼자 읽기

호세아 10

1. 이스라엘은 열매 맺는 무성한 포도나무라 그 열매가 많을수록 제단을 많게 하며 그 땅이 아름다울수록 주상을 아름답게 하도다
  Israel was a spreading vine; he brought forth fruit for himself. As his fruit increased, he built more altars; as his land prospered, he adorned his sacred stones.

2. 저희가 두 마음을 품었으니 이제 죄를 받을 것이라 하나님이 그 제단을 쳐서 깨치시며 그 주상을 헐으시리라
  Their heart is deceitful, and now they must bear their guilt. The LORD will demolish their altars and destroy their sacred stones.

3. 저희가 이제 이르기를 우리가 여호와를 두려워 아니하므로 우리에게 왕이 없거니와 왕이 우리를 위하여 무엇을 하리요 하리로다
  Then they will say, "We have no king because we did not revere the LORD. But even if we had a king, what could he do for us?"

4. 저희가 헛된 말을 내며 거짓 맹세를 발하여 언약을 세우니 그 재판이 밭이랑에 돋는 독한 인진 같으리로다
  They make many promises, take false oaths and make agreements; therefore lawsuits spring up like poisonous weeds in a plowed field.

5. 사마리아 거민이 벧아웬의 송아지를 인하여 두려워할 것이라 그 백성이 슬퍼하며 그것을 기뻐하던 제사장들도 슬퍼하리니 이는 그 영광이 떠나감이며
  The people who live in Samaria fear for the calf-idol of Beth Aven. Its people will mourn over it, and so will its idolatrous priests, those who had rejoiced over its splendor, because it is taken from them into exile.

6. 그 송아지는 앗수르로 옮겨다가 예물로 야렙 왕에게 드리리니 에브라임은 수치를 받을 것이요 이스라엘은 자기들의 계의를 부끄러워할 것이며
  It will be carried to Assyria as tribute for the great king. Ephraim will be disgraced; Israel will be ashamed of its wooden idols.

7. 사마리아 왕은 물 위에 거품같이 멸망할 것이며
  Samaria and its king will float away like a twig on the surface of the waters.

8. 이스라엘의 죄 된 아웬의 산당은 패괴되어 가시와 찔레가 그 단 위에 날 것이니 그 때에 저희가 산더러 우리를 가리우라 할 것이요 작은 산더러 우리 위에 무너지라 하리라
  The high places of wickedness will be destroyed--it is the sin of Israel. Thorns and thistles will grow up and cover their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, "Cover us!" and to the hills, "Fall on us!"

9. 이스라엘아 네가 기브아의 시대로부터 범죄하였거늘 무리가 기브아에 서서 흉악한 족속을 치는 전쟁을 거기서 면하였도다
  "Since the days of Gibeah, you have sinned, O Israel, and there you have remained. Did not war overtake the evildoers in Gibeah?

10. 내가 원하는 때에 저희를 징계하리니 저희가 두 가지 죄에 걸릴 때에 만민이 모여서 저희를 치리라
  When I please, I will punish them; nations will be gathered against them to put them in bonds for their double sin.

11. 에브라임은 마치 길들인 암소 같아서 곡식 밟기를 좋아하나 내가 그 아름다운 목에 멍에를 메우고 그의 위에 사람을 태우리니 유다가 밭을 갈고 야곱이 흙덩이를 깨뜨리리라
  Ephraim is a trained heifer that loves to thresh; so I will put a yoke on her fair neck. I will drive Ephraim, Judah must plow, and Jacob must break up the ground.

12. 너희가 자기를 위하여 의를 심고 긍휼을 거두라 지금이 곧 여호와를 찾을 때니 너희 묵은 땅을 기경하라 마침내 여호와께서 임하사 의를 비처럼 너희에게 내리시리라
  Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers righteousness on you.

13. 너희는 악을 밭갈아 죄를 거두고 거짓 열매를 먹었나니 이는 네가 네 길과 네 용사의 많음을 의뢰하였음이라
  But you have planted wickedness, you have reaped evil, you have eaten the fruit of deception. Because you have depended on your own strength and on your many warriors,

14. 그러므로 너희 백성 중에 요란함이 일어나며 네 산성들이 다 훼파되되 살만이 전쟁의 날에 벧아벨을 훼파한 것같이 될 것이라 그 때에 어미와 자식이 함께 부숴졌도다
  the roar of battle will rise against your people, so that all your fortresses will be devastated--as Shalman devastated Beth Arbel on the day of battle, when mothers were dashed to the ground with their children.

15. 너희의 큰 악을 인하여 벧엘이 이같이 너희에게 행하리니 이스라엘 왕이 새벽에 멸절하리로다
  Thus will it happen to you, O Bethel, because your wickedness is great. When that day dawns, the king of Israel will be completely destroyed.

시편 129-131

1. 이스라엘은 이제 말하기를 저희가 나의 소시부터 여러 번 나를 괴롭게 하였도다
  A song of ascents. They have greatly oppressed me from my youth--let Israel say--

2. 저희가 나의 소시부터 여러 번 나를 괴롭게 하였으나 나를 이기지 못하였도다
  they have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me.

3. 밭 가는 자가 내 등에 갈아 그 고랑을 길게 지었도다
  Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long.

4. 여호와께서는 의로우사 악인의 줄을 끊으셨도다
  But the LORD is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked.

5. 무릇 시온을 미워하는 자는 수치를 당하여 물러갈찌어다
  May all who hate Zion be turned back in shame.

6. 저희는 지붕의 풀과 같을찌어다 그것은 자라기 전에 마르는 것이라
  May they be like grass on the roof, which withers before it can grow;

7. 이런 것은 베는 자의 줌과 묶는 자의 품에 차지 아니하나니
  with it the reaper cannot fill his hands, nor the one who gathers fill his arms.

8. 지나가는 자도 여호와의 복이 너희에게 있을찌어다 하거나 우리가 여호와의 이름으로 너희에게 축복한다 하지 아니하느니라
  May those who pass by not say, "The blessing of the LORD be upon you; we bless you in the name of the LORD."

1. 여호와여 내가 깊은 데서 주께 부르짖었나이다
  A song of ascents. Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD;

2. 주여 내 소리를 들으시며 나의 간구하는 소리에 귀를 기울이소서
  O Lord, hear my voice. Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.

3. 여호와여 주께서 죄악을 감찰하실찐대 주여 누가 서리이까
  If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand?

4. 그러나 사유하심이 주께 있음은 주를 경외케 하심이니이다
  But with you there is forgiveness; therefore you are feared.

5. 나 곧 내 영혼이 여호와를 기다리며 내가 그 말씀을 바라는도다
  I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope.

6. 파숫군이 아침을 기다림보다 내 영혼이 주를 더 기다리나니 참으로 파숫군의 아침을 기다림보다 더하도다
  My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

7. 이스라엘아 여호와를 바랄찌어다 여호와께는 인자하심과 풍성한 구속이 있음이라
  O Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.

8. 저가 이스라엘을 그 모든 죄악에서 구속하시리로다
  He himself will redeem Israel from all their sins.

1. 여호와여 내 마음이 교만치 아니하고 내 눈이 높지 아니하오며 내가 큰 일과 미치지 못할 기이한 일을 힘쓰지 아니하나이다
  A song of ascents. Of David. My heart is not proud, O LORD, my eyes are not haughty; I do not concern myself with great matters or things too wonderful for me.

2. 실로 내가 내 심령으로 고요하고 평온케 하기를 젖 뗀 아이가 그 어미 품에 있음 같게 하였나니 내 중심이 젖 뗀 아이와 같도다
  But I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with its mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.

3. 이스라엘아 지금부터 영원까지 여호와를 바랄찌어다
