민수기 17-18

1. 여호와께서 모세에게 일러 가라사대
  The LORD said to Moses,

2. 너는 이스라엘 자손에게 고하여 그들 중에서 각 종족을 따라 지팡이 하나씩 취하되 곧 그들의 종족대로 그 모든 족장에게서 지팡이 열둘을 취하고 그 사람들의 이름을 각각 그 지팡이에 쓰되
  "Speak to the Israelites and get twelve staffs from them, one from the leader of each of their ancestral tribes. Write the name of each man on his staff.

3. 레위의 지팡이에는 아론의 이름을 쓰라 이는 그들의 종족의 각 두령이 지팡이 하나씩 있어야 할 것임이니라
  On the staff of Levi write Aaron's name, for there must be one staff for the head of each ancestral tribe.

4. 그 지팡이를 회막 안에서 내가 너희와 만나는 곳인 증거궤 앞에 두라
  Place them in the Tent of Meeting in front of the Testimony, where I meet with you.

5. 내가 택한 자의 지팡이에는 싹이 나리니 이것으로 이스라엘 자손이 너희를 대하여 원망하는 말을 내 앞에서 그치게 하리라
  The staff belonging to the man I choose will sprout, and I will rid myself of this constant grumbling against you by the Israelites."

6. 모세가 이스라엘 자손에게 고하매 그 족장들이 각기 종족대로 지팡이 하나씩 그에게 주었으니 그 지팡이 합이 열둘이라 그 중에 아론의 지팡이가 있었더라
  So Moses spoke to the Israelites, and their leaders gave him twelve staffs, one for the leader of each of their ancestral tribes, and Aaron's staff was among them.

7. 모세가 그 지팡이들을 증거의 장막 안 여호와 앞에 두었더라
  Moses placed the staffs before the LORD in the Tent of the Testimony.

8. 이튿날 모세가 증거의 장막에 들어가 본즉 레위 집을 위하여 낸 아론의 지팡이에 움이 돋고 순이 나고 꽃이 피어서 살구 열매가 열렸더라
  The next day Moses entered the Tent of the Testimony and saw that Aaron's staff, which represented the house of Levi, had not only sprouted but had budded, blossomed and produced almonds.

9. 모세가 그 지팡이 전부를 여호와 앞에서 이스라엘 모든 자손에게로 취하여 내매 그들이 보고 각각 자기 지팡이를 취하였더라
  Then Moses brought out all the staffs from the LORD'S presence to all the Israelites. They looked at them, and each man took his own staff.

10. 여호와께서 또 모세에게 이르시되 아론의 지팡이는 증거궤 앞으로 도로 가져다가 거기 간직하여 패역한 자에 대한 표징이 되게 하여 그들로 내게 대한 원망을 그치고 죽지 않게 할찌니라
  The LORD said to Moses, "Put back Aaron's staff in front of the Testimony, to be kept as a sign to the rebellious. This will put an end to their grumbling against me, so that they will not die."

11. 모세가 곧 그같이 하되 여호와께서 자기에게 명하신 대로 하였더라
  Moses did just as the LORD commanded him.

12. 이스라엘 자손이 모세에게 말하여 가로되 보소서 우리는 죽게 되었나이다 망하게 되었나이다 다 망하게 되었나이다
  The Israelites said to Moses, "We will die! We are lost, we are all lost!

13. 가까이 나아가는 자 곧 여호와의 성막에 가까이 나아가는 자마다 다 죽사오니 우리가 다 망하여야 하리이까
  Anyone who even comes near the tabernacle of the LORD will die. Are we all going to die?"

1. 여호와께서 아론에게 이르시되 너와 네 아들들과 네 종족은 성소에 대한 죄를 함께 담당할 것이요 너와 네 아들들은 너희가 그 제사장 직분에 대한 죄를 함께 담당할 것이니라
  The LORD said to Aaron, "You, your sons and your father's family are to bear the responsibility for offenses against the sanctuary, and you and your sons alone are to bear the responsibility for offenses against the priesthood.

2. 너는 네 형제 레위 지파 곧 네 조상의 지파를 데려다가 너와 합동시켜 너를 섬기게 하고 너와 네 아들들은 증거의 장막 앞에 있을 것이니라
  Bring your fellow Levites from your ancestral tribe to join you and assist you when you and your sons minister before the Tent of the Testimony.

3. 레위인은 네 직무와 장막의 모든 직무를 지키려니와 성소의 기구와 단에는 가까이 못하리니 두렵건대 그들과 너희가 죽을까 하노라
  They are to be responsible to you and are to perform all the duties of the Tent, but they must not go near the furnishings of the sanctuary or the altar, or both they and you will die.

4. 레위인은 너와 합동하여 장막의 모든 일과 회막의 직무를 지킬 것이요 외인은 너희에게 가까이 못할 것이니라
  They are to join you and be responsible for the care of the Tent of Meeting--all the work at the Tent--and no one else may come near where you are.

5. 이와 같이 너희는 성소의 직무와 단의 직무를 지키라 그리하면 여호와의 진노가 다시는 이스라엘 자손에게 미치지 아니하리라
  "You are to be responsible for the care of the sanctuary and the altar, so that wrath will not fall on the Israelites again.

6. 보라 내가 이스라엘 자손 중에서 너희 형제 레위인을 취하여 내게 돌리고 너희에게 선물로 주어 회막의 일을 하게 하였나니
  I myself have selected your fellow Levites from among the Israelites as a gift to you, dedicated to the LORD to do the work at the Tent of Meeting.

7. 너와 네 아들들은 단과 장안의 모든 일에 대하여 제사장의 직분을 지켜 섬기라 내가 제사장의 직분을 너희에게 선물로 주었은즉 거기 가까이 하는 외인은 죽이울찌니라
  But only you and your sons may serve as priests in connection with everything at the altar and inside the curtain. I am giving you the service of the priesthood as a gift. Anyone else who comes near the sanctuary must be put to death."

8. 여호와께서 또 아론에게 이르시되 보라 내가 내 거제물 곧 이스라엘 자손의 거룩하게 한 모든 예물을 너로 주관하게 하고 네가 기름 부음을 받았음을 인하여 그것을 너와 네 아들들에게 영영한 응식으로 주노라
  Then the LORD said to Aaron, "I myself have put you in charge of the offerings presented to me; all the holy offerings the Israelites give me I give to you and your sons as your portion and regular share.

9. 지성물 중에 불사르지 않은 것은 네 것이라 그들이 내게 드리는 모든 예물의 모든 소제와 속죄제와 속건제물은 다 지극히 거룩한즉 너와 네 아들들에게 돌리리니
  You are to have the part of the most holy offerings that is kept from the fire. From all the gifts they bring me as most holy offerings, whether grain or sin or guilt offerings, that part belongs to you and your sons.

10. 지극히 거룩하게 여김으로 먹으라 이는 네게 성물인즉 남자들이 다 먹을찌니라
  Eat it as something most holy; every male shall eat it. You must regard it as holy.

11. 내게 돌릴 것이 이것이니 곧 이스라엘 자손의 드리는 거제물과 모든 요제물이라 내가 그것을 너와 네 자녀에게 영영한 응식으로 주었은즉 네 집의 정결한 자마다 먹을 것이니라
  "This also is yours: whatever is set aside from the gifts of all the wave offerings of the Israelites. I give this to you and your sons and daughters as your regular share. Everyone in your household who is ceremonially clean may eat it.

12. 그들이 여호와께 드리는 첫 소산 곧 제일 좋은 기름과 제일 좋은 포도주와 곡식을 네게 주었은즉
  "I give you all the finest olive oil and all the finest new wine and grain they give the LORD as the firstfruits of their harvest.

13. 그들이 여호와께 드리는 그 땅 처음 익은 모든 열매는 네 것이니 네 집에 정결한 자마다 먹을 것이라
  All the land's firstfruits that they bring to the LORD will be yours. Everyone in your household who is ceremonially clean may eat it.

14. 이스라엘 중에서 특별히 드린 모든 것은 네 것이 되리라
  "Everything in Israel that is devoted to the LORD is yours.

15. 여호와께 드리는 모든 생물의 처음 나는 것은 사람이나 짐승이나 다 네 것이로되 사람의 처음 난 것은 반드시 대속할 것이요 부정한 짐승의 처음 난 것도 대속할 것이며
  The first offspring of every womb, both man and animal, that is offered to the LORD is yours. But you must redeem every firstborn son and every firstborn male of unclean animals.

16. 그 사람을 속할 때에는 난 지 일 개월 이후에 네가 정한 대로 성소의 세겔을 따라 은 다섯 세겔로 속하라 한 세겔은 이십 게라니라
  When they are a month old, you must redeem them at the redemption price set at five shekels of silver, according to the sanctuary shekel, which weighs twenty gerahs.

17. 오직 소의 처음 난 것이나 양의 처음 난 것이나 염소의 처음 난 것은 속하지 말찌니 그것들은 거룩한즉 그 피는 단에 뿌리고 그 기름은 불살라 여호와께 향기로운 화제로 드릴 것이며
  "But you must not redeem the firstborn of an ox, a sheep or a goat; they are holy. Sprinkle their blood on the altar and burn their fat as an offering made by fire, an aroma pleasing to the LORD.

18. 그 고기는 네게 돌릴찌니 흔든 가슴과 우편 넓적다리 같이 네게 돌릴 것이니라
  Their meat is to be yours, just as the breast of the wave offering and the right thigh are yours.

19. 이스라엘 자손이 여호와께 거제로 드리는 모든 성물은 내가 영영한 응식으로 너와 네 자녀에게 주노니 이는 여호와 앞에 너와 네 후손에게 변하지 않는 소금 언약이니라
  Whatever is set aside from the holy offerings the Israelites present to the LORD I give to you and your sons and daughters as your regular share. It is an everlasting covenant of salt before the LORD for both you and your offspring."

20. 여호와께서 또 아론에게 이르시되 너는 이스라엘 자손의 땅의 기업도 없겠고 그들 중에 아무 분깃도 없을 것이나 나는 이스라엘 자손 중에 네 분깃이요 네 기업이니라
  The LORD said to Aaron, "You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites.

21. 내가 이스라엘의 십일조를 레위 자손에게 기업으로 다 주어서 그들의 하는 일 곧 회막에서 하는 일을 갚나니
  "I give to the Levites all the tithes in Israel as their inheritance in return for the work they do while serving at the Tent of Meeting.

22. 이 후로는 이스라엘 자손이 회막에 가까이 말 것이라 죄를 당하여 죽을까 하노라
  From now on the Israelites must not go near the Tent of Meeting, or they will bear the consequences of their sin and will die.

23. 오직 레위인은 회막에서 봉사하며 자기들의 죄를 담당할 것이요 이스라엘 자손 중에는 기업이 없을 것이니 이는 너희의 대대에 영원한 율례라
  It is the Levites who are to do the work at the Tent of Meeting and bear the responsibility for offenses against it. This is a lasting ordinance for the generations to come. They will receive no inheritance among the Israelites.

24. 이스라엘 자손이 여호와께 거제로 드리는 십일조를 레위인에게 기업으로 준 고로 내가 그들에 대하여 말하기를 이스라엘 자손 중에 기업이 없을 것이라 하였노라
  Instead, I give to the Levites as their inheritance the tithes that the Israelites present as an offering to the LORD. That is why I said concerning them: 'They will have no inheritance among the Israelites.'"

25. 여호와께서 모세에게 일러 가라사대
  The LORD said to Moses,

26. 너는 레위인에게 고하여 그에게 이르라 내가 이스라엘 자손에게 취하여 너희에게 기업으로 준 십일조를 너희가 그들에게서 취할 때에 그 십일조의 십일조를 거제로 여호와께 드릴 것이라
  "Speak to the Levites and say to them: 'When you receive from the Israelites the tithe I give you as your inheritance, you must present a tenth of that tithe as the LORD'S offering.

27. 내가 너희의 거제물을 타작 마당에서 받드는 곡물과 포도즙 틀에서 받드는 즙같이 여기리니
  Your offering will be reckoned to you as grain from the threshing floor or juice from the winepress.

28. 너희는 이스라엘 자손에게서 받는 모든 것의 십일조 중에서 여호와께 거제로 드리고 여호와께 드린 그 거제물은 제사장 아론에게로 돌리되
  In this way you also will present an offering to the LORD from all the tithes you receive from the Israelites. From these tithes you must give the LORD'S portion to Aaron the priest.

29. 너희의 받은 모든 예물 중에서 너희는 그 아름다운 것 곧 거룩하게 한 부분을 취하여 여호와께 거제로 드릴찌니라
  You must present as the LORD'S portion the best and holiest part of everything given to you.'

30. 이러므로 너는 그들에게 이르라 너희가 그 중에서 아름다운 것을 취하여 드리고 남은 것은 너희 레위인에게는 타작 마당의 소출과 포도즙 틀의 소출같이 되리니
  "Say to the Levites: 'When you present the best part, it will be reckoned to you as the product of the threshing floor or the winepress.

31. 너희와 너희 권속이 어디서든지 이것을 먹을 수 있음은 이는 회막에서 일한 너희의 보수임이니라
  You and your households may eat the rest of it anywhere, for it is your wages for your work at the Tent of Meeting.

32. 너희가 그 중 아름다운 것을 받들어 드린즉 이로 인하여 죄를 지지 아니할 것이라 너희는 이스라엘 자손의 성물을 더럽히지 말라 그리하면 죽지 아니하리라
  By presenting the best part of it you will not be guilty in this matter; then you will not defile the holy offerings of the Israelites, and you will not die.'"

시편 55

1. 하나님이여 내 기도에 귀를 기울이시고 내가 간구할 때에 숨지 마소서
  For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A maskil of David. Listen to my prayer, O God, do not ignore my plea;

2. 내게 굽히사 응답하소서 내가 근심으로 편치 못하여 탄식하오니
  hear me and answer me. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught

3. 이는 원수의 소리와 악인의 압제의 연고라 저희가 죄악으로 내게 더하며 노하여 나를 핍박하나이다
  at the voice of the enemy, at the stares of the wicked; for they bring down suffering upon me and revile me in their anger.

4. 내 마음이 내 속에서 심히 아파하며 사망의 위험이 내게 미쳤도다
  My heart is in anguish within me; the terrors of death assail me.

5. 두려움과 떨림이 내게 이르고 황공함이 나를 덮었도다
  Fear and trembling have beset me; horror has overwhelmed me.

6. 나의 말이 내가 비둘기같이 날개가 있으면 날아가서 편히 쉬리로다
  I said, "Oh, that I had the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest--

7. 내가 멀리 날아가서 광야에 거하리로다 (셀라)
  I would flee far away and stay in the desert; Selah

8. 내가 피난처에 속히 가서 폭풍과 광풍을 피하리라 하였도다
  I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm."

9. 내가 성내에서 강포와 분쟁을 보았사오니 주여 저희를 멸하소서 저희 혀를 나누소서
  Confuse the wicked, O Lord, confound their speech, for I see violence and strife in the city.

10. 저희가 주야로 성벽 위에 두루 다니니 성중에는 죄악과 잔해함이 있으며
  Day and night they prowl about on its walls; malice and abuse are within it.

11. 악독이 그 중에 있고 압박과 궤사가 그 거리를 떠나지 않도다
  Destructive forces are at work in the city; threats and lies never leave its streets.

12. 나를 책망한 자가 원수가 아니라 원수일찐대 내가 참았으리라 나를 대하여 자기를 높이는 자가 나를 미워하는 자가 아니라 미워하는 자일찐대 내가 그를 피하여 숨었으리라
  If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were raising himself against me, I could hide from him.

13. 그가 곧 너로다 나의 동류, 나의 동무요 나의 가까운 친우로다
  But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend,

14. 우리가 같이 재미롭게 의논하며 무리와 함께 하여 하나님의 집 안에서 다녔도다
  with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship as we walked with the throng at the house of God.

15. 사망이 홀연히 저희에게 임하여 산채로 음부에 내려갈찌어다 이는 악독이 저희 거처에 있고 저희 가운데 있음이로다
  Let death take my enemies by surprise; let them go down alive to the grave, for evil finds lodging among them.

16. 나는 하나님께 부르짖으리니 여호와께서 나를 구원하시리로다
  But I call to God, and the LORD saves me.

17. 저녁과 아침과 정오에 내가 근심하여 탄식하리니 여호와께서 내 소리를 들으시리로다
  Evening, morning and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice.

18. 나를 대적하는 자 많더니 나를 치는 전쟁에서 저가 내 생명을 구속하사 평안하게 하셨도다
  He ransoms me unharmed from the battle waged against me, even though many oppose me.

19. 태고부터 계신 하나님이 들으시고 (셀라) 변치 아니하며 하나님을 경외치 아니하는 자에게 보응하시리로다
  God, who is enthroned forever, will hear them and afflict them--Selah men who never change their ways and have no fear of God.

20. 저는 손을 들어 자기와 화목한 자를 치고 그 언약을 배반하였도다
  My companion attacks his friends; he violates his covenant.

21. 그 입은 우유 기름보다 미끄러워도 그 마음은 전쟁이요 그 말은 기름보다 유하여도 실상은 뽑힌 칼이로다
  His speech is smooth as butter, yet war is in his heart; his words are more soothing than oil, yet they are drawn swords.

22. 네 짐을 여호와께 맡겨 버리라 너를 붙드시고 의인의 요동함을 영영히 허락지 아니하시리로다
  Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.

23. 하나님이여 주께서 저희로 파멸의 웅덩이에 빠지게 하시리이다 피를 흘리게 하며 속이는 자들은 저희 날의 반도 살지 못할 것이나 나는 주를 의지하리이다
  But you, O God, will bring down the wicked into the pit of corruption; bloodthirsty and deceitful men will not live out half their days. But as for me, I trust in you.

이사야 7

1. 웃시야의 손자요 요담의 아들인 유다 왕 아하스 때에 아람 왕 르신과 르말리야의 아들 이스라엘 왕 베가가 올라와서 예루살렘을 쳤으나 능히 이기지 못하니라
  When Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, King Rezin of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel marched up to fight against Jerusalem, but they could not overpower it.

2. 혹이 다윗 집에 고하여 가로되 아람이 에브라임과 동맹하였다 하였으므로 왕의 마음과 그 백성의 마음이 삼림이 바람에 흔들림같이 흔들렸더라
  Now the house of David was told, "Aram has allied itself with Ephraim"; so the hearts of Ahaz and his people were shaken, as the trees of the forest are shaken by the wind.

3. 때에 여호와께서 이사야에게 이르시되 너와 네 아들 스알야숩은 윗못 수도 끝 세탁자의 밭 큰 길에 나가서 아하스를 만나
  Then the LORD said to Isaiah, "Go out, you and your son Shear-Jashub, to meet Ahaz at the end of the aqueduct of the Upper Pool, on the road to the Washerman's Field.

4. 그에게 이르기를 너는 삼가며 종용하라 아람 왕 르신과 르말리야의 아들이 심히 노할찌라도 연기 나는 두 부지깽이 그루터기에 불과하니 두려워 말며 낙심치 말라
  Say to him, 'Be careful, keep calm and don't be afraid. Do not lose heart because of these two smoldering stubs of firewood--because of the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.

5. 아람과 에브라임 왕과 르말리야의 아들이 악한 꾀로 너를 대적하여 이르기를
  Aram, Ephraim and Remaliah's son have plotted your ruin, saying,

6. 우리가 올라가 유다를 쳐서 그것을 곤하게 하고 우리를 위하여 그것을 파하고 다브엘의 아들을 그 중에 세워 왕을 삼자 하였으나
  "Let us invade Judah; let us tear it apart and divide it among ourselves, and make the son of Tabeel king over it."

7. 주 여호와의 말씀에 이 도모가 서지 못하며 이루지 못하리라
  Yet this is what the Sovereign LORD says: "'It will not take place, it will not happen,

8. 대저 아람의 머리는 다메섹이요 다메섹의 머리는 르신이며 에브라임의 머리는 사마리아요 사마리아의 머리는 르말리야의 아들이라도 육십 오년 내에 에브라임이 패하여 다시는 나라를 이루지 못하리라 만일 너희가 믿지 아니하면 정녕히 굳게 서지 못하리라 하셨다 할찌니라
  for the head of Aram is Damascus, and the head of Damascus is only Rezin. Within sixty-five years Ephraim will be too shattered to be a people.

9. 8절과 같음
  The head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is only Remaliah's son. If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.'"

10. 여호와께서 또 아하스에게 일러 가라사대
  Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz,

11. 너는 네 하나님 여호와께 한 징조를 구하되 깊은 데서든지 높은 데서든지 구하라
  "Ask the LORD your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights."

12. 아하스가 가로되 나는 구하지 아니하겠나이다 나는 여호와를 시험치 아니하겠나이다 한지라
  But Ahaz said, "I will not ask; I will not put the LORD to the test."

13. 이사야가 가로되 다윗의 집이여 청컨대 들을찌어다 너희가 사람을 괴롭게 하고 그것을 작은 일로 여겨서 또 나의 하나님을 괴로우시게 하려느냐
  Then Isaiah said, "Hear now, you house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God also?

14. 그러므로 주께서 친히 징조로 너희에게 주실 것이라 보라 처녀가 잉태하여 아들을 낳을 것이요 그 이름을 임마누엘이라 하리라
  Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

15. 그가 악을 버리며 선을 택할줄 알 때에 미쳐 뻐터와 꿀을 먹을 것이라
  He will eat curds and honey when he knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right.

16. 대저 이 아이가 악을 버리며 선을 택할 줄 알기 전에 너의 미워하는 두 왕의 땅이 폐한 바 되리라
  But before the boy knows enough to reject the wrong and choose the right, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.

17. 여호와께서 에브라임이 유다를 떠날 때부터 당하여 보지 못한 날을 너와 네 백성과 네 아비 집에 임하게 하시리니 곧 앗수르 왕의 오는 날이니라
  The LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since Ephraim broke away from Judah--he will bring the king of Assyria."

18. 그 날에는 여호와께서 애굽 하수에서 먼 지경의 파리와 앗수르 땅의 벌을 부르시리니
  In that day the LORD will whistle for flies from the distant streams of Egypt and for bees from the land of Assyria.

19. 다 와서 거친 골짜기와 바위 틈과 가시나무 울타리와 모든 초장에 앉으리라
  They will all come and settle in the steep ravines and in the crevices in the rocks, on all the thornbushes and at all the water holes.

20. 그 날에는 주께서 하수 저편에서 세내어 온 삭도 곧 앗수르 왕으로 네 백성의 머리털과 발털을 미실 것이요 수염도 깎으시리라
  In that day the Lord will use a razor hired from beyond the River--the king of Assyria--to shave your head and the hair of your legs, and to take off your beards also.

21. 그 날에는 사람이 한 어린 암소와 두 양을 기르리니
  In that day, a man will keep alive a young cow and two goats.

22. 그 내는 젖이 많으므로 뻐터를 먹을 것이라 무릇 그 땅 가운데 남아 있는 자는 뻐터와 꿀을 먹으리라
  And because of the abundance of the milk they give, he will have curds to eat. All who remain in the land will eat curds and honey.

23. 그 날에는 천 주에 은 일천 개의 가치 되는 포도나무 있던 곳마다 질려와 형극이 날 것이라
  In that day, in every place where there were a thousand vines worth a thousand silver shekels, there will be only briers and thorns.

24. 온 땅에 질려와 형극이 있으므로 살과 활을 가지고 그리로 갈 것이요
  Men will go there with bow and arrow, for the land will be covered with briers and thorns.

25. 보습으로 갈던 산에도 질려와 형극 까닭에 두려워서 그리로 가지 못할 것이요 그 땅은 소를 놓으며 양의 밟는 곳이 되리라
  As for all the hills once cultivated by the hoe, you will no longer go there for fear of the briers and thorns; they will become places where cattle are turned loose and where sheep run.

야고보서 1

1. 하나님과 주 예수 그리스도의 종 야고보는 흩어져 있는 열두 지파에게 문안하노라
  James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings.

2. 내 형제들아 너희가 여러 가지 시험을 만나거든 온전히 기쁘게 여기라
  Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,

3. 이는 너희 믿음의 시련이 인내를 만들어 내는 줄 너희가 앎이라
  because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.

4. 인내를 온전히 이루라 이는 너희로 온전하고 구비하여 조금도 부족함이 없게 하려 함이라
  Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

5. 너희 중에 누구든지 지혜가 부족하거든 모든 사람에게 후히 주시고 꾸짖지 아니하시는 하나님께 구하라 그리하면 주시리라
  If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

6. 오직 믿음으로 구하고 조금도 의심하지 말라 의심하는 자는 마치 바람에 밀려 요동하는 바다 물결 같으니
  But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.

7. 이런 사람은 무엇이든지 주께 얻기를 생각하지 말라
  That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord;

8. 두 마음을 품어 모든 일에 정함이 없는 자로다
  he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

9. 낮은 형제는 자기의 높음을 자랑하고
  The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position.

10. 부한 형제는 자기의 낮아짐을 자랑할찌니 이는 풀의 꽃과 같이 지나감이라
  But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower.

11. 해가 돋고 뜨거운 바람이 불어 풀을 말리우면 꽃이 떨어져 그 모양의 아름다움이 없어지나니 부한 자도 그 행하는 일에 이와 같이 쇠잔하리라
  For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.

12. 시험을 참는 자는 복이 있도다 이것에 옳다 인정하심을 받은 후에 주께서 자기를 사랑하는 자들에게 약속하신 생명의 면류관을 얻을 것임이니라
  Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

13. 사람이 시험을 받을 때에 내가 하나님께 시험을 받는다 하지 말찌니 하나님은 악에게 시험을 받지도 아니하시고 친히 아무도 시험하지 아니하시느니라
  When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;

14. 오직 각 사람이 시험을 받는 것은 자기 욕심에 끌려 미혹됨이니
  but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.

15. 욕심이 잉태한즉 죄를 낳고 죄가 장성한즉 사망을 낳느니라
  Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

16. 내 사랑하는 형제들아 속지 말라
  Don't be deceived, my dear brothers.

17. 각양 좋은 은사와 온전한 선물이 다 위로부터 빛들의 아버지께로서 내려오나니 그는 변함도 없으시고 회전하는 그림자도 없으시니라
  Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

18. 그가 그 조물 중에 우리로 한 첫 열매가 되게 하시려고 자기의 뜻을 좇아 진리의 말씀으로 우리를 낳으셨느니라
  He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

19. 내 사랑하는 형제들아 너희가 알거니와 사람마다 듣기는 속히 하고 말하기는 더디 하며 성내기도 더디 하라
  My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,

20. 사람의 성내는 것이 하나님의 의를 이루지 못함이니라
  for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.

21. 그러므로 모든 더러운 것과 넘치는 악을 내어 버리고 능히 너희 영혼을 구원할 바 마음에 심긴 도를 온유함으로 받으라
  Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.

22. 너희는 도를 행하는 자가 되고 듣기만 하여 자신을 속이는 자가 되지 말라
  Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

23. 누구든지 도를 듣고 행하지 아니하면 그는 거울로 자기의 생긴 얼굴을 보는 사람과 같으니
  Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror

24. 제 자신을 보고 가서 그 모양이 어떠한 것을 곧 잊어버리거니와
  and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.

25. 자유하게 하는 온전한 율법을 들여다보고 있는 자는 듣고 잊어버리는 자가 아니요 실행하는 자니 이 사람이 그 행하는 일에 복을 받으리라
  But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it--he will be blessed in what he does.

26. 누구든지 스스로 경건하다 생각하며 자기 혀를 재갈 먹이지 아니하고 자기 마음을 속이면 이 사람의 경건은 헛것이라
  If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.

27. 하나님 아버지 앞에서 정결하고 더러움이 없는 경건은 곧 고아와 과부를 그 환난 중에 돌아보고 또 자기를 지켜 세속에 물들지 아니하는 이것이니라
  Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
