출애굽기 7

1. 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 볼찌어다 내가 너로 바로에게 신이 되게 하였은즉 네 형 아론은 네 대언자가 되리니
  Then the LORD said to Moses, "See, I have made you like God to Pharaoh, and your brother Aaron will be your prophet.

2. 내가 네게 명한 바를 너는 네 형 아론에게 말하고 그는 바로에게 말하여 그로 이스라엘 자손을 그 땅에서 보내게 할찌니라
  You are to say everything I command you, and your brother Aaron is to tell Pharaoh to let the Israelites go out of his country.

3. 내가 바로의 마음을 강퍅케 하고 나의 표징과 나의 이적을 애굽 땅에 많이 행하리라마는
  But I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and though I multiply my miraculous signs and wonders in Egypt,

4. 바로가 너희를 듣지 아니할 터인즉 내가 내 손을 애굽에 더하여 여러 큰 재앙을 내리고 내 군대, 내 백성 이스라엘 자손을 그 땅에서 인도하여 낼찌라
  he will not listen to you. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites.

5. 내가 내 손을 애굽 위에 펴서 이스라엘 자손을 그 땅에서 인도하여 낼 때에야 애굽 사람이 나를 여호와인 줄 알리라 하시매
  And the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I stretch out my hand against Egypt and bring the Israelites out of it."

6. 모세와 아론이 여호와께서 자기들에게 명하신 대로 곧 그대로 행하였더라
  Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD commanded them.

7. 그들이 바로에게 말할 때에 모세는 팔십 세이었고 아론은 팔십삼 세이었더라
  Moses was eighty years old and Aaron eighty-three when they spoke to Pharaoh.

8. 여호와께서 모세와 아론에게 일러 가라사대
  The LORD said to Moses and Aaron,

9. 바로가 너희에게 이르기를 너희는 이적을 보이라 하거든 너는 아론에게 명하기를 너의 지팡이를 가져 바로 앞에 던지라 하라 그것이 뱀이 되리라
  "When Pharaoh says to you, 'Perform a miracle,' then say to Aaron, 'Take your staff and throw it down before Pharaoh,' and it will become a snake."

10. 모세와 아론이 바로에게 가서 여호와의 명하신 대로 행하여 아론이 바로와 그 신하 앞에 지팡이를 던졌더니 뱀이 된지라
  So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did just as the LORD commanded. Aaron threw his staff down in front of Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a snake.

11. 바로도 박사와 박수를 부르매 그 애굽 술객들도 그 술법으로 그와 같이 행하되
  Pharaoh then summoned wise men and sorcerers, and the Egyptian magicians also did the same things by their secret arts:

12. 각 사람이 지팡이를 던지매 뱀이 되었으나 아론의 지팡이가 그들의 지팡이를 삼키니라
  Each one threw down his staff and it became a snake. But Aaron's staff swallowed up their staffs.

13. 그러나 바로의 마음이 강퍅하여 그들을 듣지 아니하니 여호와의 말씀과 같더라
  Yet Pharaoh's heart became hard and he would not listen to them, just as the LORD had said.

14. 여호와께서 모세에게 이르시되 바로의 마음이 완강하여 백성 보내기를 거절하는도다
  Then the LORD said to Moses, "Pharaoh's heart is unyielding; he refuses to let the people go.

15. 아침에 너는 바로에게로 가라 그가 물로 나오리니 너는 하숫가에 서서 그를 맞으며 그 뱀 되었던 지팡이를 손에 잡고
  Go to Pharaoh in the morning as he goes out to the water. Wait on the bank of the Nile to meet him, and take in your hand the staff that was changed into a snake.

16. 그에게 이르기를 히브리 사람의 하나님 여호와께서 나를 왕에게 보내어 이르시되 내 백성을 보내라 그들이 광야에서 나를 섬길 것이니라 하였으나 이제까지 네가 듣지 아니하도다
  Then say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the desert. But until now you have not listened.

17. 여호와가 이같이 이르노니 네가 이로 인하여 나를 여호와인줄 알리라 하셨느니라 볼찌어다 내가 내 손의 지팡이로 하수를 치면 그것이 피로 변하고
  This is what the LORD says: By this you will know that I am the LORD: With the staff that is in my hand I will strike the water of the Nile, and it will be changed into blood.

18. 하수의 고기가 죽고 그 물에서는 악취가 나리니 애굽 사람들이 그 물 마시기를 싫어하리라 하라
  The fish in the Nile will die, and the river will stink; the Egyptians will not be able to drink its water.'"

19. 여호와께서 또 모세에게 이르시되 아론에게 명하기를 네 지팡이를 잡고 네 팔을 애굽의 물들과 하수들과 운하와 못과 모든 호수 위에 펴라 하라 그것들이 피가 되리니 애굽 온 땅에와 나무 그릇에와 돌 그릇에 모두 피가 있으리라
  The LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron, 'Take your staff and stretch out your hand over the waters of Egypt--over the streams and canals, over the ponds and all the reservoirs'--and they will turn to blood. Blood will be everywhere in Egypt, even in the wooden buckets and stone jars."

20. 모세와 아론이 여호와의 명하신 대로 행하여 바로와 그 신하의 목전에서 지팡이를 들어 하수를 치니 그 물이 다 피로 변하고
  Moses and Aaron did just as the LORD had commanded. He raised his staff in the presence of Pharaoh and his officials and struck the water of the Nile, and all the water was changed into blood.

21. 하수의 고기가 죽고 그 물에서는 악취가 나니 애굽 사람들이 하수물을 마시지 못하며 애굽 온 땅에는 피가 있으나
  The fish in the Nile died, and the river smelled so bad that the Egyptians could not drink its water. Blood was everywhere in Egypt.

22. 애굽 술객들도 자기 술법으로 그와 같이 행하므로 바로의 마음이 강퍅하여 그들을 듣지 아니하니 여호와의 말씀과 같더라
  But the Egyptian magicians did the same things by their secret arts, and Pharaoh's heart became hard; he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the LORD had said.

23. 바로가 돌이켜 궁으로 들어가고 그 일에도 관념하지 아니하였고
  Instead, he turned and went into his palace, and did not take even this to heart.

24. 애굽 사람들은 하수 물을 마실 수 없으므로 하숫가를 두루 파서 마실 물을 구하였더라
  And all the Egyptians dug along the Nile to get drinking water, because they could not drink the water of the river.

25. 여호와께서 하수를 치신 후 칠 일이 지나니라
  Seven days passed after the LORD struck the Nile.

누가복음 10

1. 이 후에 주께서 달리 칠십 인을 세우사 친히 가시려는 각동 각처로 둘씩 앞서 보내시며
  After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.

2. 이르시되 추수할 것은 많되 일군이 적으니 그러므로 추수하는 주인에게 청하여 추수할 일군들을 보내어 주소서 하라
  He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

3. 갈찌어다 내가 너희를 보냄이 어린 양을 이리 가운데로 보냄과 같도다
  Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

4. 전대나 주머니나 신을 가지지 말며 길에서 아무에게도 문안하지 말며
  Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

5. 어느 집에 들어가든지 먼저 말하되 이 집이 평안할찌어다 하라
  "When you enter a house, first say, 'Peace to this house.'

6. 만일 평안을 받을 사람이 거기 있으면 너희 빈 평안이 그에게 머물 것이요 그렇지 않으면 너희에게로 돌아오리라
  If a man of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; if not, it will return to you.

7. 그 집에 유하며 주는 것을 먹고 마시라 일군이 그 삯을 얻는 것이 마땅하니라 이 집에서 저 집으로 옮기지 말라
  Stay in that house, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house.

8. 어느 동네에 들어가든지 너희를 영접하거든 너희 앞에 차려 놓는 것을 먹고
  "When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is set before you.

9. 거기 있는 병자들을 고치고 또 말하기를 하나님의 나라가 너희에게 가까이 왔다 하라
  Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you.'

10. 어느 동네에 들어가든지 너희를 영접지 아니하거든 그 거리로 나와서 말하되
  But when you enter a town and are not welcomed, go into its streets and say,

11. 너희 동네에서 우리 발에 묻은 먼지도 너희에게 떨어 버리노라 그러나 하나님의 나라가 가까이 온 줄을 알라 하라
  'Even the dust of your town that sticks to our feet we wipe off against you. Yet be sure of this: The kingdom of God is near.'

12. 내가 너희에게 말하노니 저 날에 소돔이 그 동네보다 견디기 쉬우리라
  I tell you, it will be more bearable on that day for Sodom than for that town.

13. 화 있을찐저 고라신아, 화 있을찐저 벳새다야, 너희에게서 행한 모든 권능을 두로와 시돈에서 행하였더면 저희가 벌써 베옷을 입고 재에 앉아 회개하였으리라
  "Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.

14. 심판 때에 두로와 시돈이 너희보다 견디기 쉬우리라
  But it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment than for you.

15. 가버나움아 네가 하늘에까지 높아지겠느냐 음부에까지 낮아지리라
  And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths.

16. 너희 말을 듣는 자는 곧 내 말을 듣는 것이요 너희를 저버리는 자는 곧 나를 저버리는 것이요 나를 저버리는 자는 나 보내신 이를 저버리는 것이라 하시니라
  "He who listens to you listens to me; he who rejects you rejects me; but he who rejects me rejects him who sent me."

17. 칠십 인이 기뻐 돌아와 가로되 주여 주의 이름으로 귀신들도 우리에게 항복하더이다
  The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name."

18. 예수께서 이르시되 사단이 하늘로서 번개같이 떨어지는 것을 내가 보았노라
  He replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.

19. 내가 너희에게 뱀과 전갈을 밟으며 원수의 모든 능력을 제어할 권세를 주었으니 너희를 해할 자가 결단코 없으리라
  I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

20. 그러나 귀신들이 너희에게 항복하는 것으로 기뻐하지 말고 너희 이름이 하늘에 기록된 것으로 기뻐하라 하시니라
  However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."

21. 이 때에 예수께서 성령으로 기뻐하사 가라사대 천지의 주재이신 아버지여 이것을 지혜롭고 슬기 있는 자들에게는 숨기시고 어린아이들에게는 나타내심을 감사하나이다 옳소이다 이렇게 된 것이 아버지의 뜻이니이다
  At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.

22. 내 아버지께서 모든 것을 내게 주셨으니 아버지 외에는 아들이 누군지 아는 자가 없고 아들과 또 아들의 소원대로 계시를 받는 자 외에는 아버지가 누군지 아는 자가 없나이다 하시고
  "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him."

23. 제자들을 돌아보시며 종용히 이르시되 너희의 보는 것을 보는 눈은 복이 있도다
  Then he turned to his disciples and said privately, "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see.

24. 내가 너희에게 말하노니 많은 선지자와 임금이 너희 보는 바를 보고자 하였으되 보지 못하였으며 너희 듣는 바를 듣고자 하였으되 듣지 못하였느니라
  For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it."

25. 어떤 율법사가 일어나 예수를 시험하여 가로되 선생님 내가 무엇을 하여야 영생을 얻으리이까
  On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. "Teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?"

26. 예수께서 이르시되 율법에 무엇이라 기록되었으며 네가 어떻게 읽느냐
  "What is written in the Law?" he replied. "How do you read it?"

27. 대답하여 가로되 네 마음을 다하며 목숨을 다하며 힘을 다하며 뜻을 다하여 주 너의 하나님을 사랑하고 또한 네 이웃을 네 몸과 같이 사랑하라 하였나이다
  He answered: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'"

28. 예수께서 이르시되 네 대답이 옳도다 이를 행하라 그러면 살리라 하시니
  "You have answered correctly," Jesus replied. "Do this and you will live."

29. 이 사람이 자기를 옳게 보이려고 예수께 여짜오되 그러면 내 이웃이 누구오니이까
  But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbor?"

30. 예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 어떤 사람이 예루살렘에서 여리고로 내려가다가 강도를 만나매 강도들이 그 옷을 벗기고 때려 거반 죽은 것을 버리고 갔더라
  In reply Jesus said: "A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.

31. 마침 한 제사장이 그 길로 내려가다가 그를 보고 피하여 지나가고
  A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.

32. 또 이와 같이 한 레위인도 그 곳에 이르러 그를 보고 피하여 지나가되
  So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

33. 어떤 사마리아인은 여행하는 중 거기 이르러 그를 보고 불쌍히 여겨
  But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.

34. 가까이 가서 기름과 포도주를 그 상처에 붓고 싸매고 자기 짐승에 태워 주막으로 데리고 가서 돌보아 주고
  He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him.

35. 이튿날에 데나리온 둘을 내어 주막 주인에게 주며 가로되 이 사람을 돌보아 주라 부비가 더 들면 내가 돌아올 때에 갚으리라 하였으니
  The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. 'Look after him,' he said, 'and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.'

36. 네 의견에는 이 세 사람 중에 누가 강도 만난 자의 이웃이 되겠느냐
  "Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?"

37. 가로되 자비를 베푼 자니이다 예수께서 이르시되 가서 너도 이와 같이 하라 하시니라
  The expert in the law replied, "The one who had mercy on him." Jesus told him, "Go and do likewise."

38. 저희가 길 갈 때에 예수께서 한 촌에 들어가시매 마르다라 이름하는 한 여자가 자기 집으로 영접하더라
  As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.

39. 그에게 마리아라 하는 동생이 있어 주의 발 아래 앉아 그의 말씀을 듣더니
  She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said.

40. 마르다는 준비하는 일이 많아 마음이 분주한지라 예수께 나아가 가로되 주여 내 동생이 나 혼자 일하게 두는 것을 생각지 아니하시나이까 저를 명하사 나를 도와 주라 하소서
  But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!"

41. 주께서 대답하여 가라사대 마르다야 마르다야 네가 많은 일로 염려하고 근심하나
  "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things,

42. 그러나 몇 가지만 하든지 혹 한 가지만이라도 족하니라 마리아는 이 좋은 편을 택하였으니 빼앗기지 아니하리라 하시니라
  but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her."

■ 혼자 읽기

욥기 24

1. 어찌하여 전능자가 시기를 정하지 아니하셨는고 어찌하여 그를 아는 자들이 그의 날을 보지 못하는고
  "Why does the Almighty not set times for judgment? Why must those who know him look in vain for such days?

2. 어떤 사람은 지계표를 옮기며 양 떼를 빼앗아 기르며
  Men move boundary stones; they pasture flocks they have stolen.

3. 고아의 나귀를 몰아가며 과부의 소를 볼모 잡으며
  They drive away the orphan's donkey and take the widow's ox in pledge.

4. 빈궁한 자를 길에서 몰아내나니 세상에 가난한 자가 다 스스로 숨는구나
  They thrust the needy from the path and force all the poor of the land into hiding.

5. 그들은 거친 땅의 들나귀 같아서 나가서 일하며 먹을 것을 부지런히 구하니 광야가 그 자식을 위하여 그에게 식물을 내는구나
  Like wild donkeys in the desert, the poor go about their labor of foraging food; the wasteland provides food for their children.

6. 밭에서 남의 곡식을 베며 악인의 남겨 둔 포도를 따며
  They gather fodder in the fields and glean in the vineyards of the wicked.

7. 의복이 없어 벗은 몸으로 밤을 지내며 추위에 덮을 것이 없으며
  Lacking clothes, they spend the night naked; they have nothing to cover themselves in the cold.

8. 산중 소나기에 젖으며 가리울 것이 없어 바위를 안고 있느니라
  They are drenched by mountain rains and hug the rocks for lack of shelter.

9. 어떤 사람은 고아를 어미 품에서 빼앗으며 가난한 자의 옷을 볼모잡으므로
  The fatherless child is snatched from the breast; the infant of the poor is seized for a debt.

10. 그들이 옷이 없어 벌거벗고 다니며 주리면서 곡식단을 메며
  Lacking clothes, they go about naked; they carry the sheaves, but still go hungry.

11. 그 사람의 담 안에서 기름을 짜며 목말라 하면서 술 틀을 밟느니라
  They crush olives among the terraces; they tread the winepresses, yet suffer thirst.

12. 인구 많은 성중에서 사람들이 신음하며 상한 자가 부르짖으나 하나님이 그 불의를 보지 아니하시느니라
  The groans of the dying rise from the city, and the souls of the wounded cry out for help. But God charges no one with wrongdoing.

13. 또 광명을 배반하는 사람들은 이러하니 그들은 광명의 길을 알지 못하며 그 첩경에 머물지 아니하는 자라
  "There are those who rebel against the light, who do not know its ways or stay in its paths.

14. 사람을 죽이는 자는 새벽에 일어나서 가난한 자나 빈궁한 자를 죽이고 밤에는 도적같이 되며
  When daylight is gone, the murderer rises up and kills the poor and needy; in the night he steals forth like a thief.

15. 간음하는 자의 눈은 저물기를 바라며 아무 눈도 나를 보지 못하리라 하고 얼굴을 변장하며
  The eye of the adulterer watches for dusk; he thinks, 'No eye will see me,' and he keeps his face concealed.

16. 밤에 집을 뚫는 자는 낮에는 문을 닫고 있은즉 광명을 알지 못하나니
  In the dark, men break into houses, but by day they shut themselves in; they want nothing to do with the light.

17. 그들은 다 아침을 흑암같이 여기니 흑암의 두려움을 앎이니라
  For all of them, deep darkness is their morning; they make friends with the terrors of darkness.

18. 그들은 물 위에 빨리 흘러가고 그 산업은 세상에서 저주를 받나니 그들이 다시는 포도원 길로 행치 못할 것이라
  "Yet they are foam on the surface of the water; their portion of the land is cursed, so that no one goes to the vineyards.

19. 가뭄과 더위가 눈 녹은 물을 곧 말리나니 음부가 범죄자에게도 그와 같은 것인즉
  As heat and drought snatch away the melted snow, so the grave snatches away those who have sinned.

20. 태가 그를 잊어버리고 구더기가 그를 달게 먹을 것이라 그는 기억함을 다시 얻지 못하나니 불의가 나무처럼 꺾이리라
  The womb forgets them, the worm feasts on them; evil men are no longer remembered but are broken like a tree.

21. 그는 잉태치 못하므로 해산치 못한 여인을 학대하며 과부를 선대치 아니하는 자니라
  They prey on the barren and childless woman, and to the widow show no kindness.

22. 그러나 하나님이 그 권능으로 강한 자들을 보존시키시니 살기를 바라지 못할 자도 일어나는구나
  But God drags away the mighty by his power; though they become established, they have no assurance of life.

23. 하나님이 그들을 호위하사 평안케 하시나 그 눈은 그들의 길에 있구나
  He may let them rest in a feeling of security, but his eyes are on their ways.

24. 그들은 높아져도 잠시간에 없어지나니 낮아져서 범인처럼 제함을 당하고 곡식 이삭같이 베임을 입느니라
  For a little while they are exalted, and then they are gone; they are brought low and gathered up like all others; they are cut off like heads of grain.

25. 가령 그렇지 않을찌라도 능히 내 말을 거짓되다 지적하거나 내 말이 헛되다 변박할 자 누구랴
  "If this is not so, who can prove me false and reduce my words to nothing?"

고린도전서 11

1. 내가 그리스도를 본받는 자 된 것같이 너희는 나를 본받는 자 되라
  Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ.

2. 너희가 모든 일에 나를 기억하고 또 내가 너희에게 전하여 준 대로 그 유전을 너희가 지키므로 너희를 칭찬하노라
  I praise you for remembering me in everything and for holding to the teachings, just as I passed them on to you.

3. 그러나 나는 너희가 알기를 원하노니 각 남자의 머리는 그리스도요 여자의 머리는 남자요 그리스도의 머리는 하나님이시라
  Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.

4. 무릇 남자로서 머리에 무엇을 쓰고 기도나 예언을 하는 자는 그 머리를 욕되게 하는 것이요
  Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head.

5. 무릇 여자로서 머리에 쓴 것을 벗고 기도나 예언을 하는 자는 그 머리를 욕되게 하는 것이니 이는 머리 민 것과 다름이 없음이니라
  And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head--it is just as though her head were shaved.

6. 만일 여자가 머리에 쓰지 않거든 깎을 것이요 만일 깎거나 미는 것이 여자에게 부끄러움이 되거든 쓸찌니라
  If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head.

7. 남자는 하나님의 형상과 영광이니 그 머리에 마땅히 쓰지 않거니와 여자는 남자의 영광이니라
  A man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man.

8. 남자가 여자에게서 난 것이 아니요 여자가 남자에게서 났으며
  For man did not come from woman, but woman from man;

9. 또 남자가 여자를 위하여 지음을 받지 아니하고 여자가 남자를 위하여 지음을 받은 것이니
  neither was man created for woman, but woman for man.

10. 이러므로 여자는 천사들을 인하여 권세 아래 있는 표를 그 머리 위에 둘찌니라
  For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head.

11. 그러나 주 안에는 남자 없이 여자만 있지 않고 여자 없이 남자만 있지 아니하니라
  In the Lord, however, woman is not independent of man, nor is man independent of woman.

12. 여자가 남자에게서 난 것같이 남자도 여자로 말미암아 났으나 모든 것이 하나님에게서 났느니라
  For as woman came from man, so also man is born of woman. But everything comes from God.

13. 너희는 스스로 판단하라 여자가 쓰지 않고 하나님께 기도하는 것이 마땅하냐
  Judge for yourselves: Is it proper for a woman to pray to God with her head uncovered?

14. 만일 남자가 긴 머리가 있으면 자기에게 욕되는 것을 본성이 너희에게 가르치지 아니하느냐
  Does not the very nature of things teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him,

15. 만일 여자가 긴 머리가 있으면 자기에게 영광이 되나니 긴 머리는 쓰는 것을 대신하여 주신 연고니라
  but that if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For long hair is given to her as a covering.

16. 변론하려는 태도를 가진 자가 있을찌라도 우리에게나 하나님의 모든 교회에는 이런 규례가 없느니라
  If anyone wants to be contentious about this, we have no other practice--nor do the churches of God.

17. 내가 명하는 이 일에 너희를 칭찬하지 아니하나니 이는 저희의 모임이 유익이 못되고 도리어 해로움이라
  In the following directives I have no praise for you, for your meetings do more harm than good.

18. 첫째는 너희가 교회에 모일 때에 너희 중에 분쟁이 있다 함을 듣고 대강 믿노니
  In the first place, I hear that when you come together as a church, there are divisions among you, and to some extent I believe it.

19. 너희 중에 편당이 있어야 너희 중에 옳다 인정함을 받은 자들이 나타나게 되리라
  No doubt there have to be differences among you to show which of you have God's approval.

20. 그런즉 너희가 함께 모여서 주의 만찬을 먹을 수 없으니
  When you come together, it is not the Lord's Supper you eat,

21. 이는 먹을 때에 각각 자기의 만찬을 먼저 갖다 먹으므로 어떤 이는 시장하고 어떤 이는 취함이라
  for as you eat, each of you goes ahead without waiting for anybody else. One remains hungry, another gets drunk.

22. 너희가 먹고 마실 집이 없느냐 너희가 하나님의 교회를 업신여기고 빈궁한 자들을 부끄럽게 하느냐 내가 너희에게 무슨 말을 하랴 너희를 칭찬하랴 이것으로 칭찬하지 않노라
  Don't you have homes to eat and drink in? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? Certainly not!

23. 내가 너희에게 전한 것은 주께 받은 것이니 곧 주 예수께서 잡히시던 밤에 떡을 가지사
  For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,

24. 축사하시고 떼어 가라사대 이것은 너희를 위하는 내 몸이니 이것을 행하여 나를 기념하라 하시고
  and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, "This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me."

25. 식후에 또한 이와 같이 잔을 가지시고 가라사대 이 잔은 내 피로 세운 새 언약이니 이것을 행하여 마실 때마다 나를 기념하라 하셨으니
  In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me."

26. 너희가 이 떡을 먹으며 이 잔을 마실 때마다 주의 죽으심을 오실 때까지 전하는 것이니라
  For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

27. 그러므로 누구든지 주의 떡이나 잔을 합당치 않게 먹고 마시는 자는 주의 몸과 피를 범하는 죄가 있느니라
  Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.

28. 사람이 자기를 살피고 그 후에야 이 떡을 먹고 이 잔을 마실찌니
  A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup.

29. 주의 몸을 분변치 못하고 먹고 마시는 자는 자기의 죄를 먹고 마시는 것이니라
  For anyone who eats and drinks without recognizing the body of the Lord eats and drinks judgment on himself.

30. 이러므로 너희 중에 약한 자와 병든 자가 많고 잠자는 자도 적지 아니하니
  That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.

31. 우리가 우리를 살폈으면 판단을 받지 아니하려니와
  But if we judged ourselves, we would not come under judgment.

32. 우리가 판단을 받는 것은 주께 징계를 받는 것이니 이는 우리로 세상과 함께 죄 정함을 받지 않게 하려 하심이라
  When we are judged by the Lord, we are being disciplined so that we will not be condemned with the world.

33. 그런즉 내 형제들아 먹으러 모일 때에 서로 기다리라
  So then, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for each other.

34. 만일 누구든지 시장하거든 집에서 먹을찌니 이는 너희의 판단 받는 모임이 되지 않게 하려함이라 그 남은 것은 내가 언제든지 갈 때에 귀정하리라
  If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment. And when I come I will give further directions.
