역대하 26

1. 유다 온 백성이 웃시야로 그 부친 아마샤를 대신하여 왕을 삼으니 때에 나이 십륙세라
  Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in place of his father Amaziah.

2. 왕이 그 열조와 함께 잔 후에 웃시야가 엘롯을 건축하여 유다에 돌렸더라
  He was the one who rebuilt Elath and restored it to Judah after Amaziah rested with his fathers.

3. 웃시야가 위에 나아갈 때에 나이 십륙세라 예루살렘에서 오십 이년을 치리하니라 그 모친의 이름은 여골리아라 예루살렘 사람이더라
  Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother's name was Jecoliah; she was from Jerusalem.

4. 웃시야가 그 부친 아마샤의 모든 행위대로 여호와 보시기에 정직히 행하며
  He did what was right in the eyes of the LORD, just as his father Amaziah had done.

5. 하나님의 묵시를 밝히 아는 스가랴의 사는 날에 하나님을 구하였고 저가 여호와를 구할 동안에는 하나님이 형통케 하셨더라
  He sought God during the days of Zechariah, who instructed him in the fear of God. As long as he sought the LORD, God gave him success.

6. 웃시야가 나가서 블레셋 사람과 싸우고 가드 성과 야브네 성과 아스돗 성을 헐고 아스돗 땅과 블레셋 사람 가운데 성읍들을 건축하매
  He went to war against the Philistines and broke down the walls of Gath, Jabneh and Ashdod. He then rebuilt towns near Ashdod and elsewhere among the Philistines.

7. 하나님이 도우사 블레셋 사람과 구르바알에 거한 아라비아 사람과 마온 사람을 치게 하신지라
  God helped him against the Philistines and against the Arabs who lived in Gur Baal and against the Meunites.

8. 암몬 사람이 웃시야에게 조공을 바치매 웃시야가 심히 강성하여 이름이 애굽 변방까지 퍼졌더라
  The Ammonites brought tribute to Uzziah, and his fame spread as far as the border of Egypt, because he had become very powerful.

9. 웃시야가 예루살렘에서 성 모퉁이 문과 골짜기 문과 성굽이에 망대를 세워 견고하게 하고
  Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, at the Valley Gate and at the angle of the wall, and he fortified them.

10. 또 거친 땅에 망대를 세우고 물 웅덩이를 많이 팠으니 평야와 평지에 육축을 많이 기름이며 또 여러 산과 좋은 밭에 농부와 포도원을 다스리는 자를 두었으니 농사를 좋아함이더라
  He also built towers in the desert and dug many cisterns, because he had much livestock in the foothills and in the plain. He had people working his fields and vineyards in the hills and in the fertile lands, for he loved the soil.

11. 웃시야에게 또 싸우는 군사가 있으니 서기관 여이엘과 영장 마아세야의 조사한 수효대로 왕의 장관 하나냐의 수하에 속하여 떼를 지어 나가서 싸우는 자라
  Uzziah had a well-trained army, ready to go out by divisions according to their numbers as mustered by Jeiel the secretary and Maaseiah the officer under the direction of Hananiah, one of the royal officials.

12. 족장의 총수가 이천육백 명이니 모두 큰 용사요
  The total number of family leaders over the fighting men was 2,600.

13. 그 수하의 군대가 삼십만 칠천오백 명이라 건장하고 싸움에 능하여 왕을 도와 대적을 치는 자며
  Under their command was an army of 307,500 men trained for war, a powerful force to support the king against his enemies.

14. 웃시야가 그 온 군대를 위하여 방패와 창과 투구와 갑옷과 활과 물매 돌을 예비하고
  Uzziah provided shields, spears, helmets, coats of armor, bows and slingstones for the entire army.

15. 또 예루살렘에서 공교한 공장으로 기계를 창작하여 망대와 성곽 위에 두어 살과 큰 돌을 발하게 하였으니 그 이름이 원방에 퍼짐은 기이한 도우심을 얻어 강성하여짐이더라
  In Jerusalem he made machines designed by skillful men for use on the towers and on the corner defenses to shoot arrows and hurl large stones. His fame spread far and wide, for he was greatly helped until he became powerful.

16. 저가 강성하여지매 그 마음이 교만하여 악을 행하여 그 하나님 여호와께 범죄하되 곧 여호와의 전에 들어가서 향단에 분향하려 한지라
  But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the LORD his God, and entered the temple of the LORD to burn incense on the altar of incense.

17. 제사장 아사랴가 여호와의 제사장 용맹한 자 팔십 인을 데리고 그 뒤를 따라 들어가서
  Azariah the priest with eighty other courageous priests of the LORD followed him in.

18. 웃시야 왕을 막아 가로되 웃시야여 여호와께 분향하는 일이 왕의 할 바가 아니요 오직 분향하기 위하여 구별함을 받은 아론의 자손 제사장의 할 바니 성소에서 나가소서 왕이 범죄하였으니 하나님 여호와께 영광을 얻지 못하리이다
  They confronted him and said, "It is not right for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD. That is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who have been consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful; and you will not be honored by the LORD God."

19. 웃시야가 손으로 향로를 잡고 분향하려 하다가 노를 발하니 저가 제사장에게 노할 때에 여호와의 전 안 향단 곁 제사장 앞에서 그 이마에 문둥병이 발한지라
  Uzziah, who had a censer in his hand ready to burn incense, became angry. While he was raging at the priests in their presence before the incense altar in the LORD'S temple, leprosy broke out on his forehead.

20. 대제사장 아사랴와 모든 제사장이 왕의 이마에 문둥병이 발하였음을 보고 전에서 급히 쫓아내고 여호와께서 치시므로 왕도 속히 나가니라
  When Azariah the chief priest and all the other priests looked at him, they saw that he had leprosy on his forehead, so they hurried him out. Indeed, he himself was eager to leave, because the LORD had afflicted him.

21. 웃시야 왕이 죽는 날까지 문둥이가 되었고 문둥이가 되매 여호와의 전에서 끊어졌고 별궁에 홀로 거하였으므로 그 아들 요담이 왕궁을 관리하며 국민을 치리하였더라
  King Uzziah had leprosy until the day he died. He lived in a separate house --leprous, and excluded from the temple of the LORD. Jotham his son had charge of the palace and governed the people of the land.

22. 이 외에 웃시야의 시종 행적은 아모스의 아들 선지자 이사야가 기록하였더라
  The other events of Uzziah's reign, from beginning to end, are recorded by the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.

23. 웃시야가 그 열조와 함께 자매 저는 문둥이라 하여 열왕의 묘실에 접한 땅 곧 그 열조의 곁에 장사하니라 그 아들 요담이 대신하여 왕이 되니라
  Uzziah rested with his fathers and was buried near them in a field for burial that belonged to the kings, for people said, "He had leprosy." And Jotham his son succeeded him as king.

요한계시록 13

1. 내가 보니 바다에서 한 짐승이 나오는데 뿔이 열이요 머리가 일곱이라 그 뿔에는 열 면류관이 있고 그 머리들에는 참람된 이름들이 있더라
  And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. He had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on his horns, and on each head a blasphemous name.

2. 내가 본 짐승은 표범과 비슷하고 그 발은 곰의 발 같고 그 입은 사자의 입 같은데 용이 자기의 능력과 보좌와 큰 권세를 그에게 주었더라
  The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority.

3. 그의 머리 하나가 상하여 죽게 된 것 같더니 그 죽게 되었던 상처가 나으매 온 땅이 이상히 여겨 짐승을 따르고
  One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was astonished and followed the beast.

4. 용이 짐승에게 권세를 주므로 용에게 경배하며 짐승에게 경배하여 가로되 누가 이 짐승과 같으뇨 누가 능히 이로 더불어 싸우리요 하더라
  Men worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, "Who is like the beast? Who can make war against him?"

5. 또 짐승이 큰 말과 참람된 말 하는 입을 받고 또 마흔두 달 일할 권세를 받으니라
  The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise his authority for forty-two months.

6. 짐승이 입을 벌려 하나님을 향하여 훼방하되 그의 이름과 그의 장막 곧 하늘에 거하는 자들을 훼방하더라
  He opened his mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven.

7. 또 권세를 받아 성도들과 싸워 이기게 되고 각 족속과 백성과 방언과 나라를 다스리는 권세를 받으니
  He was given power to make war against the saints and to conquer them. And he was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation.

8. 죽임을 당한 어린 양의 생명책에 창세 이후로 녹명되지 못하고 이 땅에 사는 자들은 다 짐승에게 경배하리라
  All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast--all whose names have not been written in the book of life belonging to the Lamb that was slain from the creation of the world.

9. 누구든지 귀가 있거든 들을찌어다
  He who has an ear, let him hear.

10. 사로잡는 자는 사로잡힐 것이요 칼로 죽이는 자는 자기도 마땅히 칼에 죽으리니 성도들의 인내와 믿음이 여기 있느니라
  If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity he will go. If anyone is to be killed with the sword, with the sword he will be killed. This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of the saints.

11. 내가 보매 또 다른 짐승이 땅에서 올라오니 새끼 양같이 두 뿔이 있고 용처럼 말하더라
  Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon.

12. 저가 먼저 나온 짐승의 모든 권세를 그 앞에서 행하고 땅과 땅에 거하는 자들로 처음 짐승에게 경배하게 하니 곧 죽게 되었던 상처가 나은 자니라
  He exercised all the authority of the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed.

13. 큰 이적을 행하되 심지어 사람들 앞에서 불이 하늘로부터 땅에 내려오게 하고
  And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men.

14. 짐승 앞에서 받은 바 이적을 행함으로 땅에 거하는 자들을 미혹하며 땅에 거하는 자들에게 이르기를 칼에 상하였다가 살아난 짐승을 위하여 우상을 만들라 하더라
  Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

15. 저가 권세를 받아 그 짐승의 우상에게 생기를 주어 그 짐승의 우상으로 말하게 하고 또 짐승의 우상에게 경배하지 아니하는 자는 몇이든지 다 죽이게 하더라
  He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.

16. 저가 모든 자 곧 작은 자나 큰 자나 부자나 빈궁한 자나 자유한 자나 종들로 그 오른손에나 이마에 표를 받게 하고
  He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead,

17. 누구든지 이 표를 가진 자 외에는 매매를 못하게 하니 이 표는 곧 짐승의 이름이나 그 이름의 수라
  so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.

18. 지혜가 여기 있으니 총명 있는 자는 그 짐승의 수를 세어 보라 그 수는 사람의 수니 육백 육십 륙이니라
  This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.

■ 혼자 읽기

스가랴 9

1. 여호와의 말씀의 경고가 하드락 땅에 임하며 다메섹에 머물리니 세상 사람과 이스라엘 모든 지파의 눈이 여호와를 우러러 봄이니라
  The word of the LORD is against the land of Hadrach and will rest upon Damascus--for the eyes of men and all the tribes of Israel are on the LORD--

2. 그 접경된 하맛에도 임하겠고 두로와 시돈은 넓은 지혜가 있으니 그들에게도 임하리라
  and upon Hamath too, which borders on it, and upon Tyre and Sidon, though they are very skillful.

3. 두로는 자기를 위하여 보장을 건축하며 은을 티끌같이, 정금을 거리의 진흙같이 쌓았은즉
  Tyre has built herself a stronghold; she has heaped up silver like dust, and gold like the dirt of the streets.

4. 주께서 그를 쫓아 내시며 그의 바다 권세를 치시리니 그가 불에 삼키울찌라
  But the Lord will take away her possessions and destroy her power on the sea, and she will be consumed by fire.

5. 아스글론이 보고 무서워하며 가사도 심히 아파할 것이며 에그론은 그 소망이 수치가 되므로 역시 그러하리라 가사에는 임금이 끊칠 것이며 아스글론에는 거민이 없을 것이며
  Ashkelon will see it and fear; Gaza will writhe in agony, and Ekron too, for her hope will wither. Gaza will lose her king and Ashkelon will be deserted.

6. 아스돗에는 잡족이 거하리라 내가 블레셋 사람의 교만을 끊고
  Foreigners will occupy Ashdod, and I will cut off the pride of the Philistines.

7. 그 입에서 그 피를, 그 잇사이에서 그 가증한 것을 제하리니 그도 남아서 우리 하나님께로 돌아와서 유다의 한 두목같이 되겠고 에그론은 여부스 사람같이 되리라
  I will take the blood from their mouths, the forbidden food from between their teeth. Those who are left will belong to our God and become leaders in Judah, and Ekron will be like the Jebusites.

8. 내가 내 집을 둘러 진을 쳐서 적군을 막아 거기 왕래하지 못하게 할 것이라 포학한 자가 다시는 그 지경으로 지나지 못하리니 이는 내가 눈으로 친히 봄이니라
  But I will defend my house against marauding forces. Never again will an oppressor overrun my people, for now I am keeping watch.

9. 시온의 딸아 크게 기뻐할찌어다 예루살렘의 딸아 즐거이 부를찌어다 보라 네 왕이 네게 임하나니 그는 공의로우며 구원을 베풀며 겸손하여서 나귀를 타나니 나귀의 작은 것 곧 나귀새끼니라
  Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

10. 내가 에브라임의 병거와 예루살렘의 말을 끊겠고 전쟁하는 활도 끊으리니 그가 이방 사람에게 화평을 전할 것이요 그의 정권은 바다에서 바다까지 이르고 유브라데 강에서 땅 끝까지 이르리라
  I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the war-horses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River to the ends of the earth.

11. 또 너로 말할진대 네 언약의 피를 인하여 내가 너의 갇힌 자들을 물 없는 구덩이에서 놓았나니
  As for you, because of the blood of my covenant with you, I will free your prisoners from the waterless pit.

12. 소망을 품은 갇혔던 자들아 너희는 보장으로 돌아올지니라 내가 오늘날도 이르노라 내가 배나 네게 갚을 것이라
  Return to your fortress, O prisoners of hope; even now I announce that I will restore twice as much to you.

13. 내가 유다로 당긴 활을 삼고 에브라임으로 먹인 살을 삼았으니 시온아 내가 네 자식을 격동시켜 헬라 자식을 치게 하며 너로 용사의 칼과 같게 하리라
  I will bend Judah as I bend my bow and fill it with Ephraim. I will rouse your sons, O Zion, against your sons, O Greece, and make you like a warrior's sword.

14. 여호와께서 그 위에 나타나서 그 살을 번개같이 쏘아 내실 것이며 주 여호와께서 나팔을 불리시며 남방 회리바람을 타고 행하실 것이라
  Then the LORD will appear over them; his arrow will flash like lightning. The Sovereign LORD will sound the trumpet; he will march in the storms of the south,

15. 만군의 여호와께서 그들을 호위하시리니 그들이 원수를 삼키며 물매 돌을 밟을 것이며 그들이 피를 마시고 즐거이 부르기를 술 취한 것같이 할 것인즉 피가 가득한 동이와도 같고 피 묻은 제단 모퉁이와도 같을 것이라
  and the LORD Almighty will shield them. They will destroy and overcome with slingstones. They will drink and roar as with wine; they will be full like a bowl used for sprinkling the corners of the altar.

16. 이 날에 그들의 하나님 여호와께서 그들을 자기 백성의 양 떼같이 구원하시리니 그들이 면류관의 보석같이 여호와의 땅에 빛나리로다
  The LORD their God will save them on that day as the flock of his people. They will sparkle in his land like jewels in a crown.

17. 그의 형통함과 그의 아름다움이 어찌 그리 큰지 소년은 곡식으로 강건하며 처녀는 새 포도주로 그러하리로다
  How attractive and beautiful they will be! Grain will make the young men thrive, and new wine the young women.

요한복음 12

1. 유월절 엿새 전에 예수께서 베다니에 이르시니 이 곳은 예수께서 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 나사로의 있는 곳이라
  Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived at Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.

2. 거기서 예수를 위하여 잔치할쌔 마르다는 일을 보고 나사로는 예수와 함께 앉은자 중에 있더라
  Here a dinner was given in Jesus' honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him.

3. 마리아는 지극히 비싼 향유 곧 순전한 나드 한 근을 가져다가 예수의 발에 붓고 자기 머리털로 그의 발을 씻으니 향유 냄새가 집에 가득하더라
  Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

4. 제자 중 하나로서 예수를 잡아 줄 가룟 유다가 말하되
  But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, who was later to betray him, objected,

5. 이 향유를 어찌하여 삼백 데나리온에 팔아 가난한 자들에게 주지 아니하였느냐 하니
  "Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth a year's wages."

6. 이렇게 말함은 가난한 자들을 생각함이 아니요 저는 도적이라 돈 궤를 맡고 거기 넣는 것을 훔쳐 감이러라
  He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag, he used to help himself to what was put into it.

7. 예수께서 가라사대 저를 가만 두어 나의 장사할 날을 위하여 이를 두게 하라
  "Leave her alone," Jesus replied. "It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial.

8. 가난한 자들은 항상 너희와 함께 있거니와 나는 항상 있지 아니하리라 하시니라
  You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me."

9. 유대인의 큰 무리가 예수께서 여기 계신 줄을 알고 오니 이는 예수만 위함이 아니요 죽은 자 가운데서 살리신 나사로도 보려 함이러라
  Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.

10. 대제사장들이 나사로까지 죽이려고 모의하니
  So the chief priests made plans to kill Lazarus as well,

11. 나사로 까닭에 많은 유대인이 가서 예수를 믿음이러라
  for on account of him many of the Jews were going over to Jesus and putting their faith in him.

12. 그 이튿날에는 명절에 온 큰 무리가 예수께서 예루살렘으로 오신다 함을 듣고
  The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.

13. 종려나무 가지를 가지고 맞으러 나가 외치되 호산나 찬송하리로다 주의 이름으로 오시는 이 곧 이스라엘의 왕이시여 하더라
  They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the King of Israel!"

14. 예수는 한 어린 나귀를 만나서 타시니
  Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written,

15. 이는 기록된 바 시온 딸아 두려워 말라 보라 너의 왕이 나귀 새끼를 타고 오신다 함과 같더라
  "Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey's colt."

16. 제자들은 처음에 이 일을 깨닫지 못하였다가 예수께서 영광을 얻으신 후에야 이것이 예수께 대하여 기록된 것임과 사람들이 예수께 이같이 한 것인 줄 생각났더라
  At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.

17. 나사로를 무덤에서 불러내어 죽은 자 가운데서 살리실 때에 함께 있던 무리가 증거한지라
  Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word.

18. 이에 무리가 예수를 맞음은 이 표적 행하심을 들었음이러라
  Many people, because they had heard that he had given this miraculous sign, went out to meet him.

19. 바리새인들이 서로 말하되 볼찌어다 너희 하는 일이 쓸데 없다 보라 온 세상이 저를 좇는도다 하니라
  So the Pharisees said to one another, "See, this is getting us nowhere. Look how the whole world has gone after him!"

20. 명절에 예배하러 올라온 사람 중에 헬라인 몇이 있는데
  Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the Feast.

21. 저희가 갈릴리 벳새다 사람 빌립에게 가서 청하여 가로되 선생이여 우리가 예수를 뵈옵고자 하나이다 하니
  They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. "Sir," they said, "we would like to see Jesus."

22. 빌립이 안드레에게 가서 말하고 안드레와 빌립이 예수께 가서 여짜온대
  Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.

23. 예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 인자의 영광을 얻을 때가 왔도다
  Jesus replied, "The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.

24. 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 한 알의 밀이 땅에 떨어져 죽지 아니하면 한 알 그대로 있고 죽으면 많은 열매를 맺느니라
  I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

25. 자기 생명을 사랑하는 자는 잃어버릴 것이요 이 세상에서 자기 생명을 미워하는 자는 영생하도록 보존하리라
  The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

26. 사람이 나를 섬기려면 나를 따르라 나 있는 곳에 나를 섬기는 자도 거기 있으리니 사람이 나를 섬기면 내 아버지께서 저를 귀히 여기시리라
  Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.

27. 지금 내 마음이 민망하니 무슨 말을 하리요 아버지여 나를 구원하여 이 때를 면하게 하여 주옵소서 그러나 내가 이를 위하여 이 때에 왔나이다
  "Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save me from this hour'? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour.

28. 아버지여 아버지의 이름을 영광스럽게 하옵소서 하시니 이에 하늘에서 소리가 나서 가로되 내가 이미 영광스럽게 하였고 또다시 영광스럽게 하리라 하신대
  Father, glorify your name!" Then a voice came from heaven, "I have glorified it, and will glorify it again."

29. 곁에 서서 들은 무리는 우뢰가 울었다고도 하며 또 어떤 이들은 천사가 저에게 말하였다고도 하니
  The crowd that was there and heard it said it had thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.

30. 예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 이 소리가 난 것은 나를 위한 것이 아니요 너희를 위한 것이니라
  Jesus said, "This voice was for your benefit, not mine.

31. 이제 이 세상의 심판이 이르렀으니 이 세상 임금이 쫓겨나리라
  Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out.

32. 내가 땅에서 들리면 모든 사람을 내게로 이끌겠노라 하시니
  But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself."

33. 이렇게 말씀하심은 자기가 어떠한 죽음으로 죽을 것을 보이심이러라
  He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.

34. 이에 무리가 대답하되 우리는 율법에서 그리스도가 영원히 계신다 함을 들었거늘 너는 어찌하여 인자가 들려야 하리라 하느냐 이 인자는 누구냐
  The crowd spoke up, "We have heard from the Law that the Christ will remain forever, so how can you say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this 'Son of Man'?"

35. 예수께서 가라사대 아직 잠시 동안 빛이 너희 중에 있으니 빛이 있을 동안에 다녀 어두움에 붙잡히지 않게 하라 어두움에 다니는 자는 그 가는 바를 알지 못하느니라
  Then Jesus told them, "You are going to have the light just a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, before darkness overtakes you. The man who walks in the dark does not know where he is going.

36. 너희에게 아직 빛이 있을 동안에 빛을 믿으라 그리하면 빛의 아들이 되리라 예수께서 이 말씀을 하시고 저희를 떠나가서 숨으시니라
  Put your trust in the light while you have it, so that you may become sons of light." When he had finished speaking, Jesus left and hid himself from them.

37. 이렇게 많은 표적을 저희 앞에서 행하셨으나 저를 믿지 아니하니
  Even after Jesus had done all these miraculous signs in their presence, they still would not believe in him.

38. 이는 선지자 이사야의 말씀을 이루려 하심이라 가로되 주여 우리에게 들은 바를 누가 믿었으며 주의 팔이 뉘게 나타났나이까 하였더라
  This was to fulfill the word of Isaiah the prophet: "Lord, who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"

39. 저희가 능히 믿지 못한 것은 이 까닭이니 곧 이사야가 다시 일렀으되
  For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:

40. 저희 눈을 멀게 하시고 저희 마음을 완고하게 하셨으니 이는 저희로 하여금 눈으로 보고 마음으로 깨닫고 돌이켜 내게 고침을 받지 못하게 하려 함이니라 하였음이더라
  "He has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn--and I would heal them."

41. 이사야가 이렇게 말한 것은 주의 영광을 보고 주를 가리켜 말한 것이라
  Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus' glory and spoke about him.

42. 그러나 관원 중에도 저를 믿는 자가 많되 바리새인들을 인하여 드러나게 말하지 못하니 이는 출회를 당할까 두려워함이라
  Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not confess their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;

43. 저희는 사람의 영광을 하나님의 영광보다 더 사랑하였더라
  for they loved praise from men more than praise from God.

44. 예수께서 외쳐 가라사대 나를 믿는 자는 나를 믿는 것이 아니요 나를 보내신 이를 믿는 것이며
  Then Jesus cried out, "When a man believes in me, he does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me.

45. 나를 보는 자는 나를 보내신 이를 보는 것이니라
  When he looks at me, he sees the one who sent me.

46. 나는 빛으로 세상에 왔나니 무릇 나를 믿는 자로 어두움에 거하지 않게 하려 함이로라
  I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

47. 사람이 내 말을 듣고 지키지 아니할찌라도 내가 저를 심판하지 아니하노라 내가 온 것은 세상을 심판하려 함이 아니요 세상을 구원하려 함이로라
  "As for the person who hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge him. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save it.

48. 나를 저버리고 내 말을 받지 아니하는 자를 심판할 이가 있으니 곧 나의 한 그 말이 마지막 날에 저를 심판하리라
  There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; that very word which I spoke will condemn him at the last day.

49. 내가 내 자의로 말한 것이 아니요 나를 보내신 아버지께서 나의 말할 것과 이를 것을 친히 명령하여 주셨으니
  For I did not speak of my own accord, but the Father who sent me commanded me what to say and how to say it.

50. 나는 그의 명령이 영생인 줄 아노라 그러므로 나의 이르는 것은 내 아버지께서 내게 말씀하신 그대로 이르노라 하시니라
  I know that his command leads to eternal life. So whatever I say is just what the Father has told me to say."
