여호수아 9

1. 요단 서편 산지와 평지와 레바논 앞 대해변에 있는 헷 사람과 아모리 사람과 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람과 히위 사람과 여부스 사람의 모든 왕이 이 일을 듣고
  Now when all the kings west of the Jordan heard about these things--those in the hill country, in the western foothills, and along the entire coast of the Great Sea as far as Lebanon (the kings of the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites)--

2. 모여서 일심으로 여호수아와 이스라엘로 더불어 싸우려 하더라
  they came together to make war against Joshua and Israel.

3. 기브온 거민들이 여호수아의 여리고와 아이에 행한 일을 듣고
  However, when the people of Gibeon heard what Joshua had done to Jericho and Ai,

4. 꾀를 내어 사신의 모양을 꾸미되 해어진 전대와 해어지고 찢어져서 기운 가죽 포도주 부대를 나귀에 싣고
  they resorted to a ruse: They went as a delegation whose donkeys were loaded with worn-out sacks and old wineskins, cracked and mended.

5. 그 발에는 낡아 기운 신을 신고 낡은 옷을 입고 다 마르고 곰팡이 난 떡을 예비하고
  The men put worn and patched sandals on their feet and wore old clothes. All the bread of their food supply was dry and moldy.

6. 그들이 길갈 진으로 와서 여호수아에게 이르러 그와 이스라엘 사람들에게 이르되 우리는 원방에서 왔나이다 이제 우리와 약조하사이다
  Then they went to Joshua in the camp at Gilgal and said to him and the men of Israel, "We have come from a distant country; make a treaty with us."

7. 이스라엘 사람들이 히위 사람에게 이르되 너희가 우리 중에 거하는 듯하니 우리가 어떻게 너희와 약조할 수 있으랴
  The men of Israel said to the Hivites, "But perhaps you live near us. How then can we make a treaty with you?"

8. 그들이 여호수아에게 이르되 우리는 당신의 종이니이다 여호수아가 그들에게 묻되 너희는 누구며 어디서 왔느뇨
  "We are your servants," they said to Joshua. But Joshua asked, "Who are you and where do you come from?"

9. 그들이 여호수아에게 대답하되 종들은 당신의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 인하여 심히 먼 지방에서 왔사오니 이는 우리가 그의 명성과 그가 애굽에서 행하신 모든 일을 들으며
  They answered: "Your servants have come from a very distant country because of the fame of the LORD your God. For we have heard reports of him: all that he did in Egypt,

10. 또 그가 요단 동편에 있는 아모리 사람의 두 왕 곧 헤스본 왕 시혼과 아스다롯에 있는 바산 왕 옥에게 행하신 모든 일을 들었음이니이다
  and all that he did to the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan--Sihon king of Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth.

11. 그러므로 우리 장로들과 우리 나라의 모든 거민이 우리에게 일러 가로되 너희는 여행할 양식을 손에 가지고 가서 그들을 맞아서 그들에게 이르기를 우리는 당신들의 종이니 청컨대 이제 우리와 약조하사이다 하라 하였나이다
  And our elders and all those living in our country said to us, 'Take provisions for your journey; go and meet them and say to them, "We are your servants; make a treaty with us." '

12. 우리의 이 떡은 우리가 당신들에게로 오려고 떠나던 날에 우리들의 집에서 오히려 뜨거운 것을 양식으로 취하였더니 보소서 이제 말랐고 곰팡이 났으며
  This bread of ours was warm when we packed it at home on the day we left to come to you. But now see how dry and moldy it is.

13. 또 우리가 포도주를 담은 이 가죽부대도 새 것이더니 찢어지게 되었으며 우리의 이 옷과 신도 여행이 심히 길므로 인하여 낡아졌나이다 한지라
  And these wineskins that we filled were new, but see how cracked they are. And our clothes and sandals are worn out by the very long journey."

14. 무리가 그들의 양식을 취하고 어떻게 할 것을 여호와께 묻지 아니하고
  The men of Israel sampled their provisions but did not inquire of the LORD.

15. 여호수아가 곧 그들과 화친하여 그들을 살리리라는 언약을 맺고 회중 족장들이 그들에게 맹세하였더라
  Then Joshua made a treaty of peace with them to let them live, and the leaders of the assembly ratified it by oath.

16. 그들과 언약을 맺은 후 삼 일이 지나서야 그들은 근린에 있어 자기들 중에 거주하는 자라 함을 들으니라
  Three days after they made the treaty with the Gibeonites, the Israelites heard that they were neighbors, living near them.

17. 이스라엘 자손이 진행하여 제 삼 일에 그들의 여러 성읍에 이르렀으니 그 성읍은 기브온과 그비라와 브에롯과 기럇여아림이라
  So the Israelites set out and on the third day came to their cities: Gibeon, Kephirah, Beeroth and Kiriath Jearim.

18. 그러나 회중 족장들이 이스라엘 하나님 여호와로 그들에게 맹세한 고로 이스라엘 자손이 그들을 치지 못한지라 그러므로 회중이 다 족장들을 원망하니
  But the Israelites did not attack them, because the leaders of the assembly had sworn an oath to them by the LORD, the God of Israel. The whole assembly grumbled against the leaders,

19. 모든 족장이 온 회중에게 이르되 우리가 이스라엘 하나님 여호와로 그들에게 맹세하였은즉 이제 그들을 건드리지 못하리라
  but all the leaders answered, "We have given them our oath by the LORD, the God of Israel, and we cannot touch them now.

20. 우리가 그들에게 맹세한 맹약을 인하여 진노가 우리에게 임할까 하노니 이렇게 행하여 그들을 살리리라 하고
  This is what we will do to them: We will let them live, so that wrath will not fall on us for breaking the oath we swore to them."

21. 무리에게 이르되 그들을 살리라 하니 족장들이 그들에게 이른 대로 그들이 온 회중을 위하여 나무 패며 물 긷는 자가 되었더라
  They continued, "Let them live, but let them be woodcutters and water carriers for the entire community." So the leaders' promise to them was kept.

22. 여호수아가 그들을 불러다가 일러 가로되 너희가 우리 가운데 거주하거늘 어찌하여 우리는 너희에게서 심히 멀다 하여 우리를 속였느냐
  Then Joshua summoned the Gibeonites and said, "Why did you deceive us by saying, 'We live a long way from you,' while actually you live near us?

23. 그러므로 너희가 저주를 받나니 너희가 영영히 종이 되어서 다 내 하나님의 집을 위하여 나무 패며 물 긷는 자가 되리라
  You are now under a curse: You will never cease to serve as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God."

24. 그들이 여호수아에게 대답하여 가로되 당신의 하나님 여호와께서 그 종 모세에게 명하사 이 땅을 다 당신들에게 주고 이 땅 모든 거민을 당신들의 앞에서 멸하라 하신 것이 당신의 종에게 분명히 들리므로 당신들을 인하여 우리 생명을 잃을까 심히 두려워하여 이같이 하였나이다
  They answered Joshua, "Your servants were clearly told how the LORD your God had commanded his servant Moses to give you the whole land and to wipe out all its inhabitants from before you. So we feared for our lives because of you, and that is why we did this.

25. 보소서 이제 우리가 당신의 손에 있으니 당신의 의향에 좋고 옳은 대로 우리에게 행하소서 한지라
  We are now in your hands. Do to us whatever seems good and right to you."

26. 여호수아가 곧 그대로 그들에게 행하여 그들을 이스라엘 자손의 손에서 건져서 죽이지 못하게 하니라
  So Joshua saved them from the Israelites, and they did not kill them.

27. 그 날에 여호수아가 그들로 여호와의 택하신 곳에서 회중을 위하며 여호와의 단을 위하여 나무 패며 물 긷는 자를 삼았더니 오늘까지 이르니라
  That day he made the Gibeonites woodcutters and water carriers for the community and for the altar of the LORD at the place the LORD would choose. And that is what they are to this day.

시편 140-141

1. 여호와여 악인에게서 나를 건지시며 강포한 자에게서 나를 보전하소서
  For the director of music. A psalm of David. Rescue me, O LORD, from evil men; protect me from men of violence,

2. 저희가 중심에 해하기를 꾀하고 싸우기 위하여 매일 모이오며
  who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.

3. 뱀같이 그 혀를 날카롭게 하니 그 입술 아래는 독사의 독이 있나이다 (셀라)
  They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent's; the poison of vipers is on their lips. Selah

4. 여호와여 나를 지키사 악인의 손에 빠지지 않게 하시며 나를 보전하사 강포한 자에게서 벗어나게 하소서 저희는 나의 걸음을 밀치려 하나이다
  Keep me, O LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from men of violence who plan to trip my feet.

5. 교만한 자가 나를 해하려고 올무와 줄을 놓으며 길 곁에 그물을 치며 함정을 두었나이다 (셀라)
  Proud men have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path. Selah

6. 내가 여호와께 말하기를 주는 나의 하나님이시니 여호와여 나의 간구하는 소리에 귀를 기울이소서 하였나이다
  O LORD, I say to you, "You are my God." Hear, O LORD, my cry for mercy.

7. 내 구원의 능력이신 주 여호와여 전쟁의 날에 주께서 내 머리를 가리우셨나이다
  O Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, who shields my head in the day of battle--

8. 여호와여 악인의 소원을 허락지 마시며 그 악한 꾀를 이루지 못하게 하소서 저희가 자고할까 하나이다 (셀라)
  do not grant the wicked their desires, O LORD; do not let their plans succeed, or they will become proud. Selah

9. 나를 에우는 자가 그 머리를 들 때에 저희 입술의 해가 저희를 덮게 하소서
  Let the heads of those who surround me be covered with the trouble their lips have caused.

10. 뜨거운 숯불이 저희에게 떨어지게 하시며 불 가운데와 깊은 웅덩이에 저희로 빠져 다시 일어나지 못하게 하소서
  Let burning coals fall upon them; may they be thrown into the fire, into miry pits, never to rise.

11. 악담하는 자는 세상에서 굳게 서지 못하며 강포한 자에게는 재앙이 따라서 패망케 하리이다
  Let slanderers not be established in the land; may disaster hunt down men of violence.

12. 내가 알거니와 여호와는 고난당하는 자를 신원하시며 궁핍한 자에게 공의를 베푸시리이다
  I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.

13. 진실로 의인이 주의 이름에 감사하며 정직한 자가 주의 앞에 거하리이다
  Surely the righteous will praise your name and the upright will live before you.

1. 여호와여 내가 주를 불렀사오니 속히 내게 임하소서 내가 주께 부르짖을 때에 내 음성에 귀를 기울이소서
  A psalm of David. O LORD, I call to you; come quickly to me. Hear my voice when I call to you.

2. 나의 기도가 주의 앞에 분향함과 같이 되며 나의 손 드는 것이 저녁 제사같이 되게 하소서
  May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice.

3. 여호와여 내 입 앞에 파숫군을 세우시고 내 입술의 문을 지키소서
  Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.

4. 내 마음이 악한 일에 기울어 죄악을 행하는 자와 함께 악을 행치 말게 하시며 저희 진수를 먹지 말게 하소서
  Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers; let me not eat of their delicacies.

5. 의인이 나를 칠찌라도 은혜로 여기며 책망할찌라도 머리의 기름같이 여겨서 내 머리가 이를 거절치 아니할찌라 저희의 재난 중에라도 내가 항상 기도하리로다
  Let a righteous man strike me--it is a kindness; let him rebuke me--it is oil on my head. My head will not refuse it. Yet my prayer is ever against the deeds of evildoers;

6. 저희의 관장들이 바위 곁에 내려 던지웠도다 내 말이 달므로 무리가 들으리로다
  their rulers will be thrown down from the cliffs, and the wicked will learn that my words were well spoken.

7. 사람이 밭 갈아 흙을 부스러뜨림같이 우리의 해골이 음부 문에 흩어졌도다
  They will say,"As one plows and breaks up the earth, so our bones have been scattered at the mouth of the grave."

8. 주 여호와여 내 눈이 주께 향하며 내가 주께 피하오니 내 영혼을 빈궁한 대로 버려 두지 마옵소서
  But my eyes are fixed on you, O Sovereign LORD; in you I take refuge--do not give me over to death.

9. 나를 지키사 저희가 나를 잡으려고 놓은 올무와 행악자의 함정에서 벗어나게 하옵소서
  Keep me from the snares they have laid for me, from the traps set by evildoers.

10. 악인은 자기 그물에 걸리게 하시고 나는 온전히 면하게 하소서
  Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety.

예레미야 3

1. 세상에서 말하기를 가령 사람이 그 아내를 버리므로 그가 떠나 타인의 아내가 된다 하자 본부가 그를 다시 받겠느냐 그리하면 그 땅이 크게 더러워지지 않겠느냐 하느니라 나 여호와가 말하노라 네가 많은 무리와 행음하고도 내게로 돌아오려느냐
  "If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him and marries another man, should he return to her again? Would not the land be completely defiled? But you have lived as a prostitute with many lovers--would you now return to me?" declares the LORD.

2. 네 눈을 들어 자산을 보라 너의 행음치 아니한 곳이 어디 있느냐 네가 길가에 앉아 사람을 기다린 것이 광야에 있는 아라바 사람 같아서 음란과 행악으로 이 땅을 더럽혔도다
  "Look up to the barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been ravished? By the roadside you sat waiting for lovers, sat like a nomad in the desert. You have defiled the land with your prostitution and wickedness.

3. 그러므로 단 비가 그쳐졌고 늦은 비가 없어졌느니라 그럴지라도 네가 창녀의 낯을 가졌으므로 수치를 알지 못하느니라
  Therefore the showers have been withheld, and no spring rains have fallen. Yet you have the brazen look of a prostitute; you refuse to blush with shame.

4. 네가 이제부터는 내게 부르짖기를 나의 아버지여 아버지는 나의 소시의 애호자시오니
  Have you not just called to me: 'My Father, my friend from my youth,

5. 노를 한없이 계속하시겠으며 끝까지 두시겠나이까 하지 않겠느냐 보라 네가 이같이 말하여도 악을 행하여 네 욕심을 이루었느니라 하시니라
  will you always be angry? Will your wrath continue forever?' This is how you talk, but you do all the evil you can."

6. 요시야 왕 때에 여호와께서 또 내게 이르시되 네가 배역한 이스라엘의 행한 바를 보았느냐 그가 모든 높은 산에 오르며 모든 푸른 나무 아래로 가서 거기서 행음하였도다
  During the reign of King Josiah, the LORD said to me, "Have you seen what faithless Israel has done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every spreading tree and has committed adultery there.

7. 그가 이 모든 일을 행한 후에 내가 말하기를 그가 내게로 돌아오리라 하였으나 오히려 내게로 돌아오지 아니하였고 그 패역한 자매 유다는 그것을 보았느니라
  I thought that after she had done all this she would return to me but she did not, and her unfaithful sister Judah saw it.

8. 내게 배역한 이스라엘이 간음을 행하였으므로 내가 그를 내어쫓고 이혼서까지 주었으되 그 패역한 자매 유다가 두려워 아니하고 자기도 가서 행음함을 내가 보았노라
  I gave faithless Israel her certificate of divorce and sent her away because of all her adulteries. Yet I saw that her unfaithful sister Judah had no fear; she also went out and committed adultery.

9. 그가 돌과 나무로 더불어 행음함을 가볍게 여기고 행음하여 이 땅을 더럽혔거늘
  Because Israel's immorality mattered so little to her, she defiled the land and committed adultery with stone and wood.

10. 이 모든 일이 있어도 그 패역한 자매 유다가 진심으로 내게 돌아오지 아니하고 거짓으로 할 뿐이니라 여호와의 말이니라
  In spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Judah did not return to me with all her heart, but only in pretense," declares the LORD.

11. 여호와께서 내게 이르시되 배역한 이스라엘은 패역한 유다보다 오히려 의로움이 나타났나니
  The LORD said to me, "Faithless Israel is more righteous than unfaithful Judah.

12. 너는 가서 북을 향하여 이 말을 선포하여 이르라 여호와께서 가라사대 배역한 이스라엘아 돌아오라 나의 노한 얼굴을 너희에게로 향하지 아니하리라 나는 긍휼이 있는 자라 노를 한없이 품지 아니하느니라 여호와의 말이니라
  Go, proclaim this message toward the north: "'Return, faithless Israel,' declares the LORD, 'I will frown on you no longer, for I am merciful,' declares the LORD, 'I will not be angry forever.

13. 너는 오직 네 죄를 자복하라 이는 네 하나님 여호와를 배반하고 네 길로 달려 모든 푸른 나무 아래서 이방 신에게 절하고 내 목소리를 듣지 아니하였음이니라 여호와의 말이니라
  Only acknowledge your guilt--you have rebelled against the LORD your God, you have scattered your favors to foreign gods under every spreading tree, and have not obeyed me,'" declares the LORD.

14. 나 여호와가 말하노라 배역한 자식들아 돌아오라 나는 너희 남편임이니라 내가 너희를 성읍에서 하나와 족속 중에서 둘을 택하여 시온으로 데려오겠고
  "Return, faithless people," declares the LORD, "for I am your husband. I will choose you--one from a town and two from a clan--and bring you to Zion.

15. 내가 또 내 마음에 합하는 목자를 너희에게 주리니 그들이 지식과 명철로 너희를 양육하리라
  Then I will give you shepherds after my own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.

16. 나 여호와가 말하노라 너희가 이 땅에서 번성하여 많아질 때에는 사람 사람이 여호와의 언약궤를 다시는 말하지 아니할 것이요 생각지 아니할 것이요 기억지 아니할 것이요 찾지 아니할 것이요 만들지 아니할 것이며
  In those days, when your numbers have increased greatly in the land," declares the LORD, "men will no longer say, 'The ark of the covenant of the LORD.' It will never enter their minds or be remembered; it will not be missed, nor will another one be made.

17. 그 때에 예루살렘이 여호와의 보좌라 일컬음이 되며 열방이 그리로 모이리니 곧 여호와의 이름으로 인하여 예루살렘에 모이고 다시는 그들의 악한 마음의 강퍅한 대로 행치 아니할 것이며
  At that time they will call Jerusalem The Throne of the LORD, and all nations will gather in Jerusalem to honor the name of the LORD. No longer will they follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts.

18. 그 때에 유다 족속이 이스라엘 족속과 동행하여 북에서부터 나와서 내가 너희 열조에게 기업으로 준 땅에 함께 이르리라
  In those days the house of Judah will join the house of Israel, and together they will come from a northern land to the land I gave your forefathers as an inheritance.

19. 내가 스스로 말하기를 내가 어떻게 하든지 너를 자녀 중에 두며 허다한 나라 중에 아름다운 산업인 이 낙토를 네게 주리라 하였고 내가 다시 말하기를 너희가 나를 나의 아버지라 하고 나를 떠나지 말 것이니라 하였노라
  "I myself said, "'How gladly would I treat you like sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of any nation.' I thought you would call me 'Father' and not turn away from following me.

20. 그런데 이스라엘 족속아 마치 아내가 그 남편을 속이고 떠남같이 너희가 정녕히 나를 속였느니라 여호와의 말이니라
  But like a woman unfaithful to her husband, so you have been unfaithful to me, O house of Israel," declares the LORD.

21. 소리가 자산 위에서 들리니 곧 이스라엘 자손의 애곡하며 간구하는 것이라 그들이 그 길을 굽게 하며 자기 하나님 여호와를 잊어버렸음이로다
  A cry is heard on the barren heights, the weeping and pleading of the people of Israel, because they have perverted their ways and have forgotten the LORD their God.

22. 배역한 자식들아 돌아오라 내가 너희의 배역함을 고치리라 보소서 우리가 주께 왔사오니 주는 우리 하나님 여호와이심이니이다
  "Return, faithless people; I will cure you of backsliding." "Yes, we will come to you, for you are the LORD our God.

23. 작은 산들과 큰 산 위의 떠드는 무리에게 바라는 것은 참으로 허사라 이스라엘의 구원은 진실로 우리 하나님 여호와께 있나이다
  Surely the idolatrous commotion on the hills and mountains is a deception; surely in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

24. 부끄러운 그것이 우리의 어렸을 때로부터 우리 열조의 산업인 양 떼와 소 떼와 아들들과 딸들을 삼켰사온즉
  From our youth shameful gods have consumed the fruits of our fathers' labor--their flocks and herds, their sons and daughters.

25. 우리는 수치 중에 눕겠고 우리는 수욕에 덮이울 것이니 이는 우리와 우리 열조가 어렸을 때로부터 오늘까지 우리 하나님 여호와께 범죄하여 우리 하나님 여호와의 목소리를 청종치 아니하였음이니이다
  Let us lie down in our shame, and let our disgrace cover us. We have sinned against the LORD our God, both we and our fathers; from our youth till this day we have not obeyed the LORD our God."

마태복음 17

1. 엿새 후에 예수께서 베드로와 야고보와 그 형제 요한을 데리시고 따로 높은 산에 올라가셨더니
  After six days Jesus took with him Peter, James and John the brother of James, and led them up a high mountain by themselves.

2. 저희 앞에서 변형되사 그 얼굴이 해같이 빛나며 옷이 빛과 같이 희어졌더라
  There he was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.

3. 때에 모세와 엘리야가 예수로 더불어 말씀하는 것이 저희에게 보이거늘
  Just then there appeared before them Moses and Elijah, talking with Jesus.

4. 베드로가 예수께 여짜와 가로되 주여 우리가 여기 있는 것이 좋사오니 주께서 만일 원하시면 내가 여기서 초막 셋을 짓되 하나는 주를 위하여, 하나는 모세를 위하여, 하나는 엘리야를 위하여 하리이다
  Peter said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here. If you wish, I will put up three shelters--one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah."

5. 말할 때에 홀연히 빛난 구름이 저희를 덮으며 구름 속에서 소리가 나서 가로되 이는 내 사랑하는 아들이요 내 기뻐하는 자니 너희는 저의 말을 들으라 하는지라
  While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!"

6. 제자들이 듣고 엎드리어 심히 두려워하니
  When the disciples heard this, they fell facedown to the ground, terrified.

7. 예수께서 나아와 저희에게 손을 대시며 가라사대 일어나라 두려워 말라 하신대
  But Jesus came and touched them. "Get up," he said. "Don't be afraid."

8. 제자들이 눈을 들고 보매 오직 예수 외에는 아무도 보이지 아니하더라
  When they looked up, they saw no one except Jesus.

9. 저희가 산에서 내려올 때에 예수께서 명하여 가라사대 인자가 죽은 자 가운데서 살아나기 전에는 본 것을 아무에게도 이르지 말라 하시니
  As they were coming down the mountain, Jesus instructed them, "Don't tell anyone what you have seen, until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead."

10. 제자들이 묻자와 가로되 그러면 어찌하여 서기관들이 엘리야가 먼저 와야 하리라 하나이까
  The disciples asked him, "Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?"

11. 예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 엘리야가 과연 먼저 와서 모든 일을 회복하리라
  Jesus replied, "To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things.

12. 내가 너희에게 말하노니 엘리야가 이미 왔으되 사람들이 알지 못하고 임의로 대우하였도다 인자도 이와 같이 그들에게 고난을 받으리라 하시니
  But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished. In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands."

13. 그제야 제자들이 예수의 말씀하신 것이 세례 요한인 줄을 깨달으니라
  Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.

14. 저희가 무리에게 이르매 한 사람이 예수께 와서 꿇어 엎드리어 가로되
  When they came to the crowd, a man approached Jesus and knelt before him.

15. 주여 내 아들을 불쌍히 여기소서 저가 간질로 심히 고생하여 자주 불에도 넘어지며 물에도 넘어지는지라
  "Lord, have mercy on my son," he said. "He has seizures and is suffering greatly. He often falls into the fire or into the water.

16. 내가 주의 제자들에게 데리고 왔으나 능히 고치지 못하더이다
  I brought him to your disciples, but they could not heal him."

17. 예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 믿음이 없고 패역한 세대여 내가 얼마나 너희와 함께 있으며 얼마나 너희를 참으리요 그를 이리로 데려오라 하시다
  "O unbelieving and perverse generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy here to me."

18. 이에 예수께서 꾸짖으시니 귀신이 나가고 아이가 그 때부터 나으니라
  Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of the boy, and he was healed from that moment.

19. 이 때에 제자들이 종용히 예수께 나아와 가로되 우리는 어찌하여 쫓아내지 못하였나이까
  Then the disciples came to Jesus in private and asked, "Why couldn't we drive it out?"

20. 가라사대 너희 믿음이 적은 연고니라 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 너희가 만일 믿음이 한 겨자씨만큼만 있으면 이 산을 명하여 여기서 저기로 옮기라 하여도 옮길 것이요 또 너희가 못할 것이 없으리라
  He replied, "Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you."

22. 갈릴리에 모일 때에 예수께서 제자들에게 이르시되 인자가 장차 사람들의 손에 넘기워
  When they came together in Galilee, he said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of men.

23. 죽임을 당하고 제 삼 일에 살아나리라 하시니 제자들이 심히 근심하더라
  They will kill him, and on the third day he will be raised to life." And the disciples were filled with grief.

24. 가버나움에 이르니 반 세겔 받는 자들이 베드로에게 나아와 가로되 너의 선생이 반 세겔을 내지 아니하느냐
  After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax came to Peter and asked, "Doesn't your teacher pay the temple tax?"

25. 가로되 내신다 하고 집에 들어가니 예수께서 먼저 가라사대 시몬아 네 생각은 어떠하뇨 세상 임금들이 뉘게 관세와 정세를 받느냐 자기 아들에게냐 타인에게냐
  "Yes, he does," he replied. When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. "What do you think, Simon?" he asked. "From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes--from their own sons or from others?"

26. 베드로가 가로되 타인에게니이다 예수께서 가라사대 그러하면 아들들은 세를 면하리라
  "From others," Peter answered. "Then the sons are exempt," Jesus said to him.

27. 그러나 우리가 저희로 오해케 하지 않기 위하여 네가 바다에 가서 낚시를 던져 먼저 오르는 고기를 가져 입을 열면 돈 한 세겔을 얻을 것이니 가져다가 나와 너를 위하여 주라 하시니라
  "But so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours."
