신명기 20

1. 네가 나가 대적과 싸우려할 때에 말과 병거와 민중이 너보다 많음을 볼찌라도 그들을 두려워 말라 애굽 땅에서 너를 인도하여 내신 네 하나님 여호와께서 너와 함께 하시느니라
  When you go to war against your enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt, will be with you.

2. 너희가 싸울 곳에 가까이 가거든 제사장은 백성에게 나아가서 고하여
  When you are about to go into battle, the priest shall come forward and address the army.

3. 그들에게 이르기를 이스라엘아 들으라 너희가 오늘날 너희의 대적과 싸우려고 나아왔으니 마음에 겁내지 말며 두려워 말며 떨지 말며 그들로 인하여 놀라지 말라
  He shall say: "Hear, O Israel, today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not be terrified or give way to panic before them.

4. 너희 하나님 여호와는 너희와 함께 행하시며 너희를 위하여 너희 대적을 치고 너희를 구원하시는 자니라 할 것이며
  For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory."

5. 유사들은 백성에게 고하여 이르기를 새집을 건축하고 낙성식을 행치 못한 자가 있느냐 그는 집으로 돌아갈찌니 전사하면 타인이 낙성식을 행할까 하노라
  The officers shall say to the army: "Has anyone built a new house and not dedicated it? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else may dedicate it.

6. 포도원을 만들고 그 과실을 먹지 못한 자가 있느냐 그는 집으로 돌아갈찌니 전사하면 타인이 그 과실을 먹을까 하노라
  Has anyone planted a vineyard and not begun to enjoy it? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else enjoy it.

7. 여자와 약혼하고 그를 취하지 못한 자가 있느냐 그는 집으로 돌아 갈찌니 전사하면 타인이 그를 취할까 하노라 하고
  Has anyone become pledged to a woman and not married her? Let him go home, or he may die in battle and someone else marry her."

8. 유사들은 오히려 또 백성에게 고하여 이르기를 두려워서 마음에 겁내는 자가 있느냐 그는 집으로 돌아갈찌니 그 형제들의 마음도 그의 마음과 같이 떨어질까 하노라 하여
  Then the officers shall add, "Is any man afraid or fainthearted? Let him go home so that his brothers will not become disheartened too."

9. 백성에게 이르기를 필한 후에 군대의 장관들을 세워 무리를 거느리게 할찌니라
  When the officers have finished speaking to the army, they shall appoint commanders over it.

10. 네가 어떤 성읍으로 나아가서 치려할 때에 그 성에 먼저 평화를 선언하라
  When you march up to attack a city, make its people an offer of peace.

11. 그 성읍이 만일 평화하기로 회답하고 너를 향하여 성문을 열거든 그 온 거민으로 네게 공을 바치고 너를 섬기게 할 것이요
  If they accept and open their gates, all the people in it shall be subject to forced labor and shall work for you.

12. 만일 너와 평화하기를 싫어하고 너를 대적하여 싸우려 하거든 너는 그 성읍을 에워쌀 것이며
  If they refuse to make peace and they engage you in battle, lay siege to that city.

13. 네 하나님 여호와께서 그 성읍을 네 손에 붙이시거든 너는 칼날로 그 속의 남자를 다 쳐죽이고
  When the LORD your God delivers it into your hand, put to the sword all the men in it.

14. 오직 여자들과 유아들과 육축과 무릇 그 성중에서 네가 탈취한 모든 것은 네 것이니 취하라 네가 대적에게서 탈취한 것은 네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 주신 것인즉 너는 그것을 누릴찌니라
  As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves. And you may use the plunder the LORD your God gives you from your enemies.

15. 네가 네게서 멀리 떠난 성읍들 곧 이 민족들에게 속하지 아니한 성읍들에게는 이같이 행하려니와
  This is how you are to treat all the cities that are at a distance from you and do not belong to the nations nearby.

16. 오직 네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 기업으로 주시는 이 민족들의 성읍에서는 호흡 있는 자를 하나도 살리지 말찌니
  However, in the cities of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes.

17. 곧 헷 족속과 아모리 족속과 가나안 족속과 브리스 족속과 히위 족속과 여부스 족속을 네가 진멸하되 네 하나님 여호와께서 네게 명하신 대로 하라
  Completely destroy them--the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites--as the LORD your God has commanded you.

18. 이는 그들이 그 신들에게 행하는 모든 가증한 일로 너희에게 가르쳐 본받게 하여 너희로 너희의 하나님 여호와께 범죄케 할까 함이니라
  Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods, and you will sin against the LORD your God.

19. 너희가 어느 성읍을 오래 동안 에워싸고 쳐서 취하려할 때에도 도끼를 둘러 그곳의 나무를 작벌하지 말라 이는 너희의 먹을 것이 될것임이니 찍지 말라 밭의 수목이 사람이냐 너희가 어찌 그것을 에워싸겠느냐
  When you lay siege to a city for a long time, fighting against it to capture it, do not destroy its trees by putting an ax to them, because you can eat their fruit. Do not cut them down. Are the trees of the field people, that you should besiege them?

20. 오직 과목이 아닌 줄로 아는 수목은 작벌하여 너희와 싸우는 그 성읍을 치는 기구를 만들어 그 성읍을 함락시킬 때까지 쓸찌니라
  However, you may cut down trees that you know are not fruit trees and use them to build siege works until the city at war with you falls.

시편 107

1. 여호와께 감사하라 그는 선하시며 그 인자하심이 영원함이로다
  Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

2. 여호와께 구속함을 받은 자는 이 같이 말할찌어다 여호와께서 대적의 손에서 저희를 구속하사
  Let the redeemed of the LORD say this--those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,

3. 동서 남북 각 지방에서부터 모으셨도다
  those he gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.

4. 저희가 광야 사막 길에서 방황하며 거할 성을 찾지 못하고
  Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no way to a city where they could settle.

5. 주리고 목마름으로 그 영혼이 속에서 피곤하였도다
  They were hungry and thirsty, and their lives ebbed away.

6. 이에 저희가 그 근심 중에 여호와께 부르짖으매 그 고통에서 건지시고
  Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress.

7. 또 바른 길로 인도하사 거할 성에 이르게 하셨도다
  He led them by a straight way to a city where they could settle.

8. 여호와의 인자하심과 인생에게 행하신 기이한 일을 인하여 그를 찬송할찌로다
  Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men,

9. 저가 사모하는 영혼을 만족케 하시며 주린 영혼에게 좋은 것으로 채워주심이로다
  for he satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.

10. 사람이 흑암과 사망의 그늘에 앉으며 곤고와 쇠사슬에 매임은
  Some sat in darkness and the deepest gloom, prisoners suffering in iron chains,

11. 하나님의 말씀을 거역하며 지존자의 뜻을 멸시함이라
  for they had rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High.

12. 그러므로 수고로 저희 마음을 낮추셨으니 저희가 엎드러져도 돕는 자가 없었도다
  So he subjected them to bitter labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.

13. 이에 저희가 그 근심 중에 여호와께 부르짖으매 그 고통에서 구원하시되
  Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.

14. 흑암과 사망의 그늘에서 인도하여 내시고 그 얽은 줄을 끊으셨도다
  He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains.

15. 여호와의 인자하심과 인생에게 행하신 기이한 일을 인하여 그를 찬송할찌로다
  Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men,

16. 저가 놋문을 깨뜨리시며 쇠빗장을 꺾으셨음이로다
  for he breaks down gates of bronze and cuts through bars of iron.

17. 미련한 자는 저희 범과와 죄악의 연고로 곤난을 당하매
  Some became fools through their rebellious ways and suffered affliction because of their iniquities.

18. 저희 혼이 각종 식물을 싫어하여 사망의 문에 가깝도다
  They loathed all food and drew near the gates of death.

19. 이에 저희가 그 근심 중에서 여호와께 부르짖으매 그 고통에서 구원하시되
  Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress.

20. 저가 그 말씀을 보내어 저희를 고치사 위경에서 건지시는도다
  He sent forth his word and healed them; he rescued them from the grave.

21. 여호와의 인자하심과 인생에게 행하신 기이한 일을 인하여 그를 찬송할찌로다
  Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.

22. 감사제를 드리며 노래하여 그 행사를 선포할찌로다
  Let them sacrifice thank offerings and tell of his works with songs of joy.

23. 선척을 바다에 띄우며 큰 물에서 영업하는 자는
  Others went out on the sea in ships; they were merchants on the mighty waters.

24. 여호와의 행사와 그 기사를 바다에서 보나니
  They saw the works of the LORD, his wonderful deeds in the deep.

25. 여호와께서 명하신즉 광풍이 일어나서 바다 물결을 일으키는도다
  For he spoke and stirred up a tempest that lifted high the waves.

26. 저희가 하늘에 올랐다가 깊은 곳에 내리니 그 위험을 인하여 그 영혼이 녹는도다
  They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths; in their peril their courage melted away.

27. 저희가 이리저리 구르며 취한 자같이 비틀거리니 지각이 혼돈하도다
  They reeled and staggered like drunken men; they were at their wits' end.

28. 이에 저희가 그 근심 중에서 여호와께 부르짖으매 그 고통에서 인도하여 내시고
  Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress.

29. 광풍을 평정히 하사 물결로 잔잔케 하시는도다
  He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed.

30. 저희가 평온함을 인하여 기뻐하는 중에 여호와께서 저희를 소원의 항구로 인도하시는도다
  They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven.

31. 여호와의 인자하심과 인생에게 행하신 기이한 일을 인하여 그를 찬송할찌로다
  Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for men.

32. 백성의 회에서 저를 높이며 장로들의 자리에서 저를 찬송할찌로다
  Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.

33. 여호와께서는 강을 변하여 광야가 되게 하시며 샘으로 마른 땅이 되게 하시며
  He turned rivers into a desert, flowing springs into thirsty ground,

34. 그 거민의 악을 인하여 옥토로 염밭이 되게 하시며
  and fruitful land into a salt waste, because of the wickedness of those who lived there.

35. 또 광야를 변하여 못이 되게 하시며 마른 땅으로 샘물이 되게 하시고
  He turned the desert into pools of water and the parched ground into flowing springs;

36. 주린 자로 거기 거하게 하사 저희로 거할 성을 예비케 하시고
  there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle.

37. 밭에 파종하며 포도원을 재배하여 소산을 취케 하시며
  They sowed fields and planted vineyards that yielded a fruitful harvest;

38. 또 복을 주사 저희로 크게 번성케 하시고 그 가축이 감소치 않게 하실지라도
  he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased, and he did not let their herds diminish.

39. 다시 압박과 곤란과 우환을 인하여 저희로 감소하여 비굴하게 하시는도다
  Then their numbers decreased, and they were humbled by oppression, calamity and sorrow;

40. 여호와께서는 방백들에게 능욕을 부으시고 길 없는 황야에서 유리케 하시나
  he who pours contempt on nobles made them wander in a trackless waste.

41. 궁핍한 자는 곤란에서 높이 드시고 그 가족을 양 무리 같게 하시나니
  But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks.

42. 정직한 자는 보고 기뻐하며 모든 악인은 자기 입을 봉하리로다
  The upright see and rejoice, but all the wicked shut their mouths.

43. 지혜 있는 자들은 이 일에 주의하고 여호와의 인자하심을 깨달으리로다
  Whoever is wise, let him heed these things and consider the great love of the LORD.

■ 혼자 읽기

이사야 47

1. 처녀 딸 바벨론이여 내려 티끌에 앉으라 딸 갈대아여 보좌가 없어졌으니 땅에 앉으라 네가 다시는 곱고 아리땁다 칭함을 받지 못할 것임이니라
  "Go down, sit in the dust, Virgin Daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground without a throne, Daughter of the Babylonians. No more will you be called tender or delicate.

2. 맷돌을 취하여 가루를 갈아 면박을 벗으며 치마를 걷어 다리를 드러내고 강을 건너라
  Take millstones and grind flour; take off your veil. Lift up your skirts, bare your legs, and wade through the streams.

3. 네 살이 드러나고 네 부끄러운 것이 보일 것이라 내가 보수하되 사람을 아끼지 아니하리라
  Your nakedness will be exposed and your shame uncovered. I will take vengeance; I will spare no one."

4. (우리의 구속자는 그 이름이 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 거룩한 자시니라)
  Our Redeemer--the LORD Almighty is his name--is the Holy One of Israel.

5. 딸 갈대아여 잠잠히 앉으라 흑암으로 들어가라 네가 다시는 열국의 주모라 칭함을 받지 못하리라
  "Sit in silence, go into darkness, Daughter of the Babylonians; no more will you be called queen of kingdoms.

6. 전에 내가 내 백성을 노함으로 내 기업을 욕되게 하여 그들을 네 손에 붙였거늘 네가 그들을 긍휼히 여기지 아니하고 늙은이에게 네 멍에를 심히 무겁게 메우며
  I was angry with my people and desecrated my inheritance; I gave them into your hand, and you showed them no mercy. Even on the aged you laid a very heavy yoke.

7. 말하기를 내가 영영히 주모가 되리라 하고 이 일을 네 마음에 두지도 아니하며 그 종말도 생각지 아니하였도다
  You said, 'I will continue forever--the eternal queen!' But you did not consider these things or reflect on what might happen.

8. 그러므로 사치하고 평안히 지내며 마음에 이르기를 나 뿐이라 나 외에 다른이가 없도다 나는 과부로 지내지도 아니하며 자녀를 잃어버리는 일도 모르리라 하는 자여 너는 이제 들을찌어다
  "Now then, listen, you wanton creature, lounging in your security and saying to yourself, 'I am, and there is none besides me. I will never be a widow or suffer the loss of children.'

9. 한 날에 홀연히 자녀를 잃으며 과부가 되는 이 두 일이 네게 임할 것이라 네가 무수한 사술과 많은 진언을 베풀찌라도 이 일이 온전히 네게 임하리라
  Both of these will overtake you in a moment, on a single day: loss of children and widowhood. They will come upon you in full measure, in spite of your many sorceries and all your potent spells.

10. 네가 네 악을 의지하고 스스로 이르기를 나를 보는 자가 없다 하나니 네 지혜와 네 지식이 너를 유혹하였음이니라 네 마음에 이르기를 나뿐이라 나 외에 다른 이가 없다 하였으므로
  You have trusted in your wickedness and have said, 'No one sees me.' Your wisdom and knowledge mislead you when you say to yourself, 'I am, and there is none besides me.'

11. 재앙이 네게 임하리라 그러나 네가 그 근본을 알지 못할 것이며 손해가 네게 이르리라 그러나 이를 물리칠 능이 없을 것이며 파멸이 홀연히 네게 임하리라 그러나 네가 헤아리지 못할 것이니라
  Disaster will come upon you, and you will not know how to conjure it away. A calamity will fall upon you that you cannot ward off with a ransom; a catastrophe you cannot foresee will suddenly come upon you.

12. 이제 너는 젊어서부터 힘쓰던 진언과 많은 사술을 가지고 서서 시험하여 보라 혹시 유익을 얻을 수 있을는지, 혹시 원수를 이길 수 있을는지,
  "Keep on, then, with your magic spells and with your many sorceries, which you have labored at since childhood. Perhaps you will succeed, perhaps you will cause terror.

13. 네가 많은 모략을 인하여 피곤케 되었도다 하늘을 살피는 자와 별을 보는 자와 월삭에 예고하는 자들로 일어나 네게 임할 그 일에서 너를 구원케 하여 보라
  All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you.

14. 보라 그들은 초개 같아서 불에 타리니 그 불꽃의 세력에서 스스로 구원치 못할 것이라 이 불은 더웁게 할 숯불이 아니요 그 앞에 앉을 만한 불도 아니니라
  Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. Here are no coals to warm anyone; here is no fire to sit by.

15. 너의 근로하던 것들이 네게 이같이 되리니 너 어려서부터 너와 함께 무역하던 자들이 각기 소향대로 유리하고 너를 구원할 자 없으리라
  That is all they can do for you--these you have labored with and trafficked with since childhood. Each of them goes on in his error; there is not one that can save you.

요한계시록 17

1. 또 일곱 대접을 가진 일곱 천사 중 하나가 와서 내게 말하여 가로되 이리 오라 많은 물 위에 앉은 큰 음녀의 받을 심판을 네게 보이리라
  One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits on many waters.

2. 땅의 임금들도 그로 더불어 음행하였고 땅에 거하는 자들도 그 음행의 포도주에 취하였다 하고
  With her the kings of the earth committed adultery and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries."

3. 곧 성령으로 나를 데리고 광야로 가니라 내가 보니 여자가 붉은 빛 짐승을 탔는데 그 짐승의 몸에 참람된 이름들이 가득하고 일곱 머리와 열 뿔이 있으며
  Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a desert. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns.

4. 그 여자는 자주 빛과 붉은 빛 옷을 입고 금과 보석과 진주로 꾸미고 손에 금잔을 가졌는데 가증한 물건과 그의 음행의 더러운 것들이 가득하더라
  The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries.

5. 그 이마에 이름이 기록되었으니 비밀이라, 큰 바벨론이라, 땅의 음녀들과 가증한 것들의 어미라 하였더라
  This title was written on her forehead: MYSTERY BABYLON THE GREAT THE MOTHER OF PROSTITUTES AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

6. 또 내가 보매 이 여자가 성도들의 피와 예수의 증인들의 피에 취한지라 내가 그 여자를 보고 기이히 여기고 크게 기이히 여기니
  I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus. When I saw her, I was greatly astonished.

7. 천사가 가로되 왜 기이히 여기느냐 내가 여자와 그의 탄 바 일곱 머리와 열 뿔 가진 짐승의 비밀을 네게 이르리라
  Then the angel said to me: "Why are you astonished? I will explain to you the mystery of the woman and of the beast she rides, which has the seven heads and ten horns.

8. 네가 본 짐승은 전에 있었다가 시방 없으나 장차 무저갱으로부터 올라와 멸망으로 들어갈 자니 땅에 거하는 자들로서 창세 이후로 생명책에 녹명되지 못한 자들이 이전에 있었다가 시방 없으나 장차 나올 짐승을 보고 기이히 여기리라
  The beast, which you saw, once was, now is not, and will come up out of the Abyss and go to his destruction. The inhabitants of the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the creation of the world will be astonished when they see the beast, because he once was, now is not, and yet will come.

9. 지혜 있는 뜻이 여기 있으니 그 일곱 머리는 여자가 앉은 일곱 산이요
  "This calls for a mind with wisdom. The seven heads are seven hills on which the woman sits.

10. 또 일곱 왕이라 다섯은 망하였고 하나는 있고 다른이는 아직 이르지 아니하였으나 이르면 반드시 잠간 동안 계속하리라
  They are also seven kings. Five have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come; but when he does come, he must remain for a little while.

11. 전에 있었다가 시방 없어진 짐승은 여덟째 왕이니 일곱 중에 속한 자라 저가 멸망으로 들어가리라
  The beast who once was, and now is not, is an eighth king. He belongs to the seven and is going to his destruction.

12. 네가 보던 열 뿔은 열 왕이니 아직 나라를 얻지 못하였으나 다만 짐승으로 더불어 임금처럼 권세를 일시 동안 받으리라
  "The ten horns you saw are ten kings who have not yet received a kingdom, but who for one hour will receive authority as kings along with the beast.

13. 저희가 한 뜻을 가지고 자기의 능력과 권세를 짐승에게 주더라
  They have one purpose and will give their power and authority to the beast.

14. 저희가 어린 양으로 더불어 싸우려니와 어린 양은 만주의 주시요 만왕의 왕이시므로 저희를 이기실 터이요 또 그와 함께 있는 자들 곧 부르심을 입고 빼내심을 얻고 진실한 자들은 이기리로다
  They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings--and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers."

15. 또 천사가 내게 말하되 네가 본 바 음녀의 앉은 물은 백성과 무리와 열국과 방언들이니라
  Then the angel said to me, "The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages.

16. 네가 본 바 이 열 뿔과 짐승이 음녀를 미워하여 망하게 하고 벌거벗게 하고 그 살을 먹고 불로 아주 사르리라
  The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire.

17. 하나님이 자기 뜻대로 할 마음을 저희에게 주사 한 뜻을 이루게 하시고 저희 나라를 그 짐승에게 주게 하시되 하나님 말씀이 응하기까지 하심이니라
  For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to give the beast their power to rule, until God's words are fulfilled.

18. 또 네가 본바 여자는 땅의 임금들을 다스리는 큰 성이라 하더라
  The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth."
