역대하 14-15

1. 아비야가 그 열조와 함께 자매 다윗 성에 장사되고 그 아들 아사가 대신하여 왕이 되니 그 시대에 그 땅이 십 년을 평안하니라
  And Abijah rested with his fathers and was buried in the City of David. Asa his son succeeded him as king, and in his days the country was at peace for ten years.

2. 아사가 그 하나님 여호와 보시기에 선과 정의를 행하여
  Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God.

3. 이방 제단과 산당을 없이하고 주상을 훼파하며 아세라상을 찍고
  He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles.

4. 유다 사람을 명하여 그 열조의 하나님 여호와를 구하게 하며 그 율법과 명령을 행하게 하고
  He commanded Judah to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, and to obey his laws and commands.

5. 또 유다 모든 성읍에서 산당과 태양상을 없이하매 나라가 그 앞에서 평안함을 얻으니라
  He removed the high places and incense altars in every town in Judah, and the kingdom was at peace under him.

6. 여호와께서 아사에게 평안을 주셨으므로 그 땅이 평안하여 여러 해 싸움이 없은지라 저가 견고한 성읍들을 유다에 건축하니라
  He built up the fortified cities of Judah, since the land was at peace. No one was at war with him during those years, for the LORD gave him rest.

7. 아사가 일찌기 유다 사람에게 이르되 우리가 우리 하나님 여호와를 찾았으므로 이 땅이 아직 우리 앞에 있나니 우리가 이 성읍들을 건축하고 그 주위에 성곽과 망대와 문과 빗장을 만들자 우리가 주를 찾았으므로 주께서 우리에게 사방의 평안을 주셨느니라 하고 이에 저희가 성읍을 형통하게 건축하였더라
  "Let us build up these towns," he said to Judah, "and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have sought the LORD our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side." So they built and prospered.

8. 아사의 군대는 유다 중에서 큰 방패와 창을 잡는 자가 삼십만이요 베냐민 중에서 작은 방패를 잡으며 활을 당기는 자가 이십팔만이라 다 큰 용사더라
  Asa had an army of three hundred thousand men from Judah, equipped with large shields and with spears, and two hundred and eighty thousand from Benjamin, armed with small shields and with bows. All these were brave fighting men.

9. 구스 사람 세라가 저희를 치려하여 군사 백만과 병거 삼백 승을 거느리고 마레사에 이르매
  Zerah the Cushite marched out against them with a vast army and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah.

10. 아사가 마주 나아가서 마레사의 스바다 골짜기에 진치고
  Asa went out to meet him, and they took up battle positions in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.

11. 그 하나님 여호와께 부르짖어 가로되 여호와여 강한 자와 약한 자 사이에는 주밖에 도와 줄 이가 없사오니 우리 하나님 여호와여 우리를 도우소서 우리가 주를 의지하오며 주의 이름을 의탁하옵고 이 많은 무리를 치러 왔나이다 여호와여 주는 우리 하나님이시오니 원컨대 사람으로 주를 이기지 못하게 하옵소서 하였더니
  Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, "LORD, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O LORD, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you."

12. 여호와께서 구스 사람을 아사와 유다 사람 앞에서 쳐서 패하게 하시니 구스 사람이 도망하는지라
  The LORD struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled,

13. 아사와 그 좇는 자가 구스 사람을 쫓아 그랄까지 이르매 이에 구스 사람이 엎드러지고 살아 남은 자가 없었으니 이는 여호와 앞에서와 그 군대 앞에서 패망하였음이라 노략한 물건이 심히 많았더라
  and Asa and his army pursued them as far as Gerar. Such a great number of Cushites fell that they could not recover; they were crushed before the LORD and his forces. The men of Judah carried off a large amount of plunder.

14. 여호와께서 그랄 사면 모든 성읍 백성을 두렵게 하시니 무리가 그 모든 성읍을 치고 그 가운데 있는 많은 물건을 노략하고
  They destroyed all the villages around Gerar, for the terror of the LORD had fallen upon them. They plundered all these villages, since there was much booty there.

15. 또 짐승 지키는 천막을 치고 양과 약대를 많이 이끌고 예루살렘으로 돌아왔더라
  They also attacked the camps of the herdsmen and carried off droves of sheep and goats and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.

1. 하나님의 신이 오뎃의 아들 아사랴에게 임하시매
  The Spirit of God came upon Azariah son of Oded.

2. 저가 나가서 아사를 맞아 이르되 아사와 및 유다와 베냐민의 무리들아 내 말을 들으라 너희가 여호와와 함께하면 여호와께서 너희와 함께하실찌라 너희가 만일 저를 찾으면 저가 너희의 만난바 되시려니와 너희가 만일 저를 버리면 저도 너희를 버리시리라
  He went out to meet Asa and said to him, "Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The LORD is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.

3. 이스라엘에는 참 신이 없고 가르치는 제사장도 없고 율법도 없은 지가 이제 오래였으나
  For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach and without the law.

4. 그 환난 때에 이스라엘 하나님 여호와께 돌아가서 찾으매 저가 그들의 만난 바가 되셨나니
  But in their distress they turned to the LORD, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found by them.

5. 그 때에 열국에 거한 모든 백성이 크게 요란하여 사람의 출입이 평안치 못하며
  In those days it was not safe to travel about, for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil.

6. 이 나라가 저 나라와 서로 치고 이 성읍이 저 성읍과 또한 그러하여 피차 상한 바 되었나니 이는 하나님이 모든 고난으로 요란케 하셨음이니라
  One nation was being crushed by another and one city by another, because God was troubling them with every kind of distress.

7. 그런즉 너희는 강하게 하라 손이 약하지 않게 하라 너희 행위에는 상급이 있음이니라
  But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded."

8. 아사가 이 말 곧 선지자 오뎃의 예언을 듣고 마음을 강하게 하여 가증한 물건을 유다와 베냐민 온 땅에서 제하고 또 에브라임 산지에서 빼앗은 성읍들에서 제하고 또 여호와의 낭실 앞 여호와의 단을 중수하고
  When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded the prophet, he took courage. He removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hills of Ephraim. He repaired the altar of the LORD that was in front of the portico of the LORD'S temple.

9. 또 유다와 베냐민의 무리를 모으고 에브라임과 므낫세와 시므온 가운데서 나와서 저희 중에 우거하는 자를 모았으니 이는 이스라엘 사람들이 아사의 하나님 여호와께서 그와 함께 하심을 보고 아사에게로 돌아오는 자가 많았음이더라
  Then he assembled all Judah and Benjamin and the people from Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who had settled among them, for large numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the LORD his God was with him.

10. 아사 왕 십오년 삼월에 저희가 예루살렘에 모이고
  They assembled at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa's reign.

11. 그 날에 노략하여 온 물건 중에서 소 칠백과 양 칠천으로 여호와께 제사를 드리고
  At that time they sacrificed to the LORD seven hundred head of cattle and seven thousand sheep and goats from the plunder they had brought back.

12. 또 마음을 다하고 성품을 다하여 열조의 하나님 여호와를 찾기로 언약하고
  They entered into a covenant to seek the LORD, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul.

13. 무릇 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 찾지 아니하는 자는 대소 남녀를 무론하고 죽이는 것이 마땅하다 하고
  All who would not seek the LORD, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman.

14. 무리가 큰 소리로 부르며 피리와 나팔을 불어 여호와께 맹세하매
  They took an oath to the LORD with loud acclamation, with shouting and with trumpets and horns.

15. 온 유다가 이 맹세를 기뻐한지라 무리가 마음을 다하여 맹세하고 뜻을 다하여 여호와를 찾았으므로 여호와께서도 저희의 만난 바가 되시고 그 사방에 평안을 주셨더라
  All Judah rejoiced about the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought God eagerly, and he was found by them. So the LORD gave them rest on every side.

16. 아사 왕의 모친 마아가가 아세라의 가증한 목상을 만들었으므로 아사가 그 태후의 위를 폐하고 그 우상을 찍고 빻아 기드론 시냇가에서 불살랐으니
  King Asa also deposed his grandmother Maacah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive Asherah pole. Asa cut the pole down, broke it up and burned it in the Kidron Valley.

17. 산당은 이스라엘 중에서 제하지 아니하였으나 아사의 마음이 일평생 온전하였더라
  Although he did not remove the high places from Israel, Asa's heart was fully committed to the LORD all his life.

18. 저가 또 그 부친의 구별한 물건과 자기의 구별한 물건 곧 은과 금과 기명들을 하나님의 전에 드렸더니
  He brought into the temple of God the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated.

19. 이 때부터 아사 왕 삼십오년까지 다시는 전쟁이 없으니라
  There was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa's reign.

요한계시록 4

1. 이 일 후에 내가 보니 하늘에 열린 문이 있는데 내가 들은 바 처음에 내게 말하던 나팔 소리 같은 그 음성이 가로되 이리로 올라오라 이후에 마땅히 될 일을 내가 네게 보이리라 하시더라
  After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, "Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this."

2. 내가 곧 성령에 감동하였더니 보라 하늘에 보좌를 베풀었고 그 보좌 위에 앉으신 이가 있는데
  At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it.

3. 앉으신 이의 모양이 벽옥과 홍보석 같고 또 무지개가 있어 보좌에 둘렸는데 그 모양이 녹보석 같더라
  And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and carnelian. A rainbow, resembling an emerald, encircled the throne.

4. 또 보좌에 둘려 이십사 보좌들이 있고 그 보좌들 위에 이십사 장로들이 흰 옷을 입고 머리에 금면류관을 쓰고 앉았더라
  Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads.

5. 보좌로부터 번개와 음성과 뇌성이 나고 보좌 앞에 일곱 등불 켠 것이 있으니 이는 하나님의 일곱 영이라
  From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. Before the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God.

6. 보좌 앞에 수정과 같은 유리 바다가 있고 보좌 가운데와 보좌 주위에 네 생물이 있는데 앞뒤에 눈이 가득하더라
  Also before the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back.

7. 그 첫째 생물은 사자 같고 그 둘째 생물은 송아지 같고 그 세째 생물은 얼굴이 사람 같고 그 네째 생물은 날아가는 독수리 같은데
  The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle.

8. 네 생물이 각각 여섯 날개가 있고 그 안과 주위에 눈이 가득하더라 그들이 밤낮 쉬지 않고 이르기를 거룩하다 거룩하다 거룩하다 주 하나님 곧 전능하신 이여 전에도 계셨고 이제도 계시고 장차 오실 자라 하고
  Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come."

9. 그 생물들이 영광과 존귀와 감사를 보좌에 앉으사 세세토록 사시는 이에게 돌릴 때에
  Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever,

10. 이십사 장로들이 보좌에 앉으신 이 앞에 엎드려 세세토록 사시는 이에게 경배하고 자기의 면류관을 보좌 앞에 던지며 가로되
  the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne, and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say:

11. 우리 주 하나님이여 영광과 존귀와 능력을 받으시는 것이 합당하오니 주께서 만물을 지으신지라 만물이 주의 뜻대로 있었고 또 지으심을 받았나이다 하더라
  "You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being."

학개 2

1. 칠월 곧 그 달 이십일일에 여호와의 말씀이 선지자 학개에게 임하니라 가라사대
  On the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai:

2. 너는 스알디엘의 아들 유다 총독 스룹바벨과 여호사닥의 아들 대제사장 여호수아와 남은 백성에게 고하여 이르라
  "Speak to Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, to Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people. Ask them,

3. 너희 중에 남아 있는 자 곧 이 전의 이전 영광을 본 자가 누구냐 이제 이것이 너희에게 어떻게 보이느냐 이것이 너희 눈에 보잘것이 없지 아니하냐
  'Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing?

4. 그러나 나 여호와가 이르노라 스룹바벨아 스스로 굳세게 할찌어다 여호사닥의 아들 대제사장 여호수아야 스스로 굳세게 할찌어다 나 여호와의 말이니라 이 땅 모든 백성아 스스로 굳세게 하여 일할찌어다 내가 너희와 함께 하노라 만군의 여호와의 말이니라
  But now be strong, O Zerubbabel,' declares the LORD. 'Be strong, O Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Be strong, all you people of the land,' declares the LORD, 'and work. For I am with you,' declares the LORD Almighty.

5. 너희가 애굽에서 나올 때에 내가 너희와 언약한 말과 나의 신이 오히려 너희 중에 머물러 있나니 너희는 두려워하지 말찌어다
  'This is what I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt. And my Spirit remains among you. Do not fear.'

6. 나 만군의 여호와가 말하노라 조금 있으면 내가 하늘과 땅과 바다와 육지를 진동시킬 것이요
  "This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'In a little while I will once more shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land.

7. 또한 만국을 진동시킬 것이며 만국의 보배가 이르리니 내가 영광으로 이 전에 충만케 하리라 만군의 여호와의 말이니라
  I will shake all nations, and the desired of all nations will come, and I will fill this house with glory,' says the LORD Almighty.

8. 은도 내 것이요 금도 내 것이니라 만군의 여호와의 말이니라
  'The silver is mine and the gold is mine,' declares the LORD Almighty.

9. 이 전의 나중 영광이 이전 영광보다 크리라 만군의 여호와의 말이니라 내가 이 곳에 평강을 주리라 만군의 여호와의 말이니라
  'The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,' says the LORD Almighty. 'And in this place I will grant peace,' declares the LORD Almighty."

10. 다리오 왕 이년 구월 이십사일에 여호와의 말씀이 선지자 학개에게 임하니라 가라사대
  On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Haggai:

11. 나 만군의 여호와가 말하노니 너는 제사장에게 율법에 대하여 물어 이르기를
  "This is what the LORD Almighty says: 'Ask the priests what the law says:

12. 사람이 옷자락에 거룩한 고기를 쌌는데 그 옷자락이 만일 떡에나 국에나 포도주에나 기름에나 다른 식물에 닿았으면 그것이 성물이 되겠느냐 하라 학개가 물으매 제사장들이 대답하여 가로되 아니니라
  If a person carries consecrated meat in the fold of his garment, and that fold touches some bread or stew, some wine, oil or other food, does it become consecrated?'" The priests answered, "No."

13. 학개가 가로되 시체를 만져서 부정하여진 자가 만일 그것들 중에 하나를 만지면 그것이 부정하겠느냐 제사장들이 대답하여 가로되 부정하겠느니라
  Then Haggai said, "If a person defiled by contact with a dead body touches one of these things, does it become defiled?" "Yes," the priests replied, "it becomes defiled."

14. 이에 학개가 대답하여 가로되 여호와의 말씀에 내 앞에서 이 백성이 그러하고 이 나라가 그러하고 그 손의 모든 일도 그러하고 그들이 거기서 드리는 것도 부정하니라
  Then Haggai said, "'So it is with this people and this nation in my sight,' declares the LORD. 'Whatever they do and whatever they offer there is defiled.

15. 이제 청컨대 너희는 오늘부터 이 전 곧 여호와의 전에 돌이 돌 위에 첩 놓이지 않았던 때를 추억하라
  "'Now give careful thought to this from this day on--consider how things were before one stone was laid on another in the LORD'S temple.

16. 그 때에는 이십 석 곡식 더미에 이른즉 십 석뿐이었고 포도즙 틀에 오십 그릇을 길으려 이른즉 이십 그릇뿐이었었느니라
  When anyone came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten. When anyone went to a wine vat to draw fifty measures, there were only twenty.

17. 나 만군의 여호와가 말하노라 내가 너희 손으로 지은 모든 일에 폭풍과 곰팡과 우박으로 쳤으나 너희가 내게로 돌이키지 아니하였었느니라
  I struck all the work of your hands with blight, mildew and hail, yet you did not turn to me,' declares the LORD.

18. 너희는 오늘부터 이전을 추억하여 보라 구월 이십사일 곧 여호와의 전 지대를 쌓던 날부터 추억하여 보라
  'From this day on, from this twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, give careful thought to the day when the foundation of the LORD'S temple was laid. Give careful thought:

19. 곡식 종자가 오히려 창고에 있느냐 포도나무, 무화과나무, 석류나무, 감람나무에 열매가 맺지 못하였었느니라 그러나 오늘부터는 내가 너희에게 복을 주리라
  Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit. "'From this day on I will bless you.'"

20. 그 달 이십사 일에 여호와의 말씀이 다시 학개에게 임하니라 가라사대
  The word of the LORD came to Haggai a second time on the twenty-fourth day of the month:

21. 너는 유다 총독 스룹바벨에게 고하여 이르라 내가 하늘과 땅을 진동시킬 것이요
  "Tell Zerubbabel governor of Judah that I will shake the heavens and the earth.

22. 열국의 보좌를 엎을 것이요 열방의 세력을 멸할 것이요 그 병거들과 그 탄 자를 엎드러뜨리리니 말과 그 탄 자가 각각 그 동무의 칼에 엎드러지리라
  I will overturn royal thrones and shatter the power of the foreign kingdoms. I will overthrow chariots and their drivers; horses and their riders will fall, each by the sword of his brother.

23. 나 만군의 여호와가 말하노라 스알디엘의 아들 내 종 스룹바벨아 나 여호와가 말하노라 그 날에 내가 너를 취하고 너로 인을 삼으리니 이는 내가 너를 택하였음이니라 만군의 여호와의 말이니라
  "'On that day,' declares the LORD Almighty, 'I will take you, my servant Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel,' declares the LORD, 'and I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you,' declares the LORD Almighty."

요한복음 3

1. 바리새인 중에 니고데모라 하는 사람이 있으니 유대인의 관원이라
  Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a member of the Jewish ruling council.

2. 그가 밤에 예수께 와서 가로되 랍비여 우리가 당신은 하나님께로서 오신 선생인 줄 아나이다 하나님이 함께 하시지 아니하시면 당신의 행하시는 이 표적을 아무라도 할 수 없음이니이다
  He came to Jesus at night and said, "Rabbi, we know you are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God were not with him."

3. 예수께서 대답하여 가라사대 진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니 사람이 거듭나지 아니하면 하나님 나라를 볼 수 없느니라
  In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again."

4. 니고데모가 가로되 사람이 늙으면 어떻게 날 수 있삽나이까 두 번째 모태에 들어갔다가 날 수 있삽나이까
  "How can a man be born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb to be born!"

5. 예수께서 대답하시되 진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니 사람이 물과 성령으로 나지 아니하면 하나님 나라에 들어갈 수 없느니라
  Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.

6. 육으로 난 것은 육이요 성령으로 난 것은 영이니
  Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

7. 내가 네게 거듭나야 하겠다 하는 말을 기이히 여기지 말라
  You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.'

8. 바람이 임의로 불매 네가 그 소리를 들어도 어디서 오며 어디로 가는지 알지 못하나니 성령으로 난 사람은 다 이러하니라
  The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit."

9. 니고데모가 대답하여 가로되 어찌 이러한 일이 있을 수 있나이까
  "How can this be?" Nicodemus asked.

10. 예수께서 가라사대 너는 이스라엘의 선생으로서 이러한 일을 알지 못하느냐
  "You are Israel's teacher," said Jesus, "and do you not understand these things?

11. 진실로 진실로 네게 이르노니 우리 아는 것을 말하고 본 것을 증거하노라 그러나 너희가 우리 증거를 받지 아니하는도다
  I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony.

12. 내가 땅의 일을 말하여도 너희가 믿지 아니하거든 하물며 하늘 일을 말하면 어떻게 믿겠느냐
  I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?

13. 하늘에서 내려온 자 곧 인자 외에는 하늘에 올라간 자가 없느니라
  No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven--the Son of Man.

14. 모세가 광야에서 뱀을 든 것같이 인자도 들려야 하리니
  Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,

15. 이는 저를 믿는 자마다 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이니라
  that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.

16. 하나님이 세상을 이처럼 사랑하사 독생자를 주셨으니 이는 저를 믿는 자마다 멸망치 않고 영생을 얻게 하려 하심이니라
  "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

17. 하나님이 그 아들을 세상에 보내신 것은 세상을 심판하려 하심이 아니요 저로 말미암아 세상이 구원을 받게 하려 하심이라
  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

18. 저를 믿는 자는 심판을 받지 아니하는 것이요 믿지 아니하는 자는 하나님의 독생자의 이름을 믿지 아니하므로 벌써 심판을 받은 것이니라
  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

19. 그 정죄는 이것이니 곧 빛이 세상에 왔으되 사람들이 자기 행위가 악하므로 빛보다 어두움을 더 사랑한 것이니라
  This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.

20. 악을 행하는 자마다 빛을 미워하여 빛으로 오지 아니하나니 이는 그 행위가 드러날까 함이요
  Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.

21. 진리를 좇는 자는 빛으로 오나니 이는 그 행위가 하나님 안에서 행한 것임을 나타내려 함이라 하시니라
  But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God."

22. 이 후에 예수께서 제자들과 유대 땅으로 가서 거기 함께 유하시며 세례를 주시더라
  After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized.

23. 요한도 살렘 가까운 애논에서 세례를 주니 거기 물들이 많음이라 사람들이 와서 세례를 받더라
  Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were constantly coming to be baptized.

24. 요한이 아직 옥에 갇히지 아니하였더라
  (This was before John was put in prison.)

25. 이에 요한의 제자 중에서 한 유대인으로 더불어 결례에 대하여 변론이 되었더니
  An argument developed between some of John's disciples and a certain Jew over the matter of ceremonial washing.

26. 저희가 요한에게 와서 가로되 랍비여 선생님과 함께 요단 강 저편에 있던 자 곧 선생님이 증거하시던 자가 세례를 주매 사람이 다 그에게로 가더이다
  They came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, that man who was with you on the other side of the Jordan--the one you testified about--well, he is baptizing, and everyone is going to him."

27. 요한이 대답하여 가로되 만일 하늘에서 주신 바 아니면 사람이 아무것도 받을 수 없느니라
  To this John replied, "A man can receive only what is given him from heaven.

28. 나의 말한 바 나는 그리스도가 아니요 그의 앞에 보내심을 받은 자라고 한 것을 증거할 자는 너희니라
  You yourselves can testify that I said, 'I am not the Christ but am sent ahead of him.'

29. 신부를 취하는 자는 신랑이나 서서 신랑의 음성을 듣는 친구가 크게 기뻐하나니 나는 이러한 기쁨이 충만하였노라
  The bride belongs to the bridegroom. The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom's voice. That joy is mine, and it is now complete.

30. 그는 흥하여야 하겠고 나는 쇠하여야 하리라 하니라
  He must become greater; I must become less.

31. 위로부터 오시는 이는 만물 위에 계시고 땅에서 난 이는 땅에 속하여 땅에 속한 것을 말하느니라 하늘로서 오시는 이는 만물 위에 계시나니
  "The one who comes from above is above all; the one who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks as one from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above all.

32. 그가 그 보고 들은 것을 증거하되 그의 증거를 받는 이가 없도다
  He testifies to what he has seen and heard, but no one accepts his testimony.

33. 그의 증거를 받는 이는 하나님을 참되시다 하여 인쳤느니라
  The man who has accepted it has certified that God is truthful.

34. 하나님의 보내신 이는 하나님의 말씀을 하나니 이는 하나님이 성령을 한량없이 주심이니라
  For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God gives the Spirit without limit.

35. 아버지께서 아들을 사랑하사 만물을 다 그 손에 주셨으니
  The Father loves the Son and has placed everything in his hands.

36. 아들을 믿는 자는 영생이 있고 아들을 순종치 아니하는 자는 영생을 보지 못하고 도리어 하나님의 진노가 그 위에 머물러 있느니라
  Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."
