■ 시편 138장
1. 다윗의 시 내가 전심으로 주께 감사하며 신들 앞에서 주께 찬양하리이다
A Psalm of David . I will praise thee with my whole heart : before the gods will I sing praise unto thee.
2. 내가 주의 성전을 향하여 경배하며 주의 인자하심과 성실하심을 인하여 주의 이름에 감사하오리니 이는 주께서 주의 말씀을 주의 모든 이름 위에 높게 하셨음이라
I will worship toward thy holy temple , and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth : for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name .
3. 내가 간구하는 날에 주께서 응답하시고 내 영혼을 장려하여 강하게 하셨나이다
In the day when I cried thou answeredst me, and strengthenedst me with strength in my soul .
4. 여호와여 땅의 열왕이 주께 감사할 것은 저희가 주의 입의 말씀을 들음이오며
All the kings of the earth shall praise thee, O Lord , when they hear the words of thy mouth .
5. 저희가 여호와의 도를 노래할 것은 여호와의 영광이 크심이니이다
Yea, they shall sing in the ways of the Lord : for great is the glory of the Lord .
6. 여호와께서 높이 계셔도 낮은 자를 하감하시며 멀리서도 교만한 자를 아시나이다
Though the Lord be high , yet hath he respect unto the lowly : but the proud he knoweth afar off .
7. 내가 환난 중에 다닐지라도 주께서 나를 소성케 하시고 주의 손을 펴사 내 원수들의 노를 막으시며 주의 오른손이 나를 구원하시리이다
Though I walk in the midst of trouble , thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies , and thy right hand shall save me.
8. 여호와께서 내게 관계된 것을 완전케 하실지라 여호와여 주의 인자하심이 영원하오니 주의 손으로 지으신 것을 버리지 마옵소서
The Lord will perfect that which concerneth me: thy mercy , O Lord , endureth for ever : forsake not the works of thine own hands .

【시138:1 JFB】시138:1-8. David thanks God for His benefits, and anticipating a wider extension of God's glory by His means, assures himself of His continued presence and faithfulness.
1. I will praise thee with my whole heart—(Compare 시9:1).
before the gods—whether angels (시8:5); or princes (출21:6; 시82:6); or idols (시97:7); denotes a readiness to worship the true God alone, and a contempt of all other objects of worship.
【시138:1 CWC】Psalm 135.
Praises God for choosing Jacob (vv. 1-4), extols His power in the natural world (vv. 5-7), and in the deliverance of His people from Egypt (vv. 8, 9) and bringing them into the promised land (vv. 10-12). All this is in contrast to the vanity pf idols (vv. 13-18).
Psalm 136.
Is of the same character as the preceding, but is notable for the chorus attached to each verse -- a chorus with which we have become familiar in other psalms (106:1; 118:1-4), and which may have been used by the people somewhat like the "Amen."
Psalm 137.
Is plainly identified as to its period and design.
Psalm 139.
Is perhaps the most sublime declaration of the omnipresence of God found in the Holy Scriptures. In the light of that attribute the Psalmist is willing to submit himself to the closest scrutinizing (v. 23), and for the reason indicated at the close. Who will follow in his train?
We have now reached another group of David's psalms (138-140) whose structure and style are like some of the earlier ones -- complaint, prayer, hope, praise.
Psalm 142.
Is unique in the historical note attached to it. The "cave" spoken of may have been Adullam (삼상22:1), or Engedi (삼상24:3), but it is not necessary to believe that the psalm was composed while David was in the cave. It may have been written later when his experience in the cave furnished a good illustration of his present need and an argument for his relief.
Psalms 147-150.
Are thought to especially celebrate the rebuilding of Jerusalem, and correspond to the conditions in 느6:16; 12:27 and other places, although their millennial application is not far to seek.
The last psalm is a fitting close to the book, "reciting the place, theme, mode and extent of Jehovah's exalted praise."
【시138:1 MHCC】When we can praise God with our whole heart, we need not be unwilling for the whole world to witness our gratitude and joy in him. Those who rely on his loving-kindness and truth through Jesus Christ, will ever find him faithful to his word. If he spared not his own Son, how shall he not with him freely give us all things? If God gives us strength in our souls, to bear the burdens, resist the temptations, and to do the duties of an afflicted state, if he strengthens us to keep hold of himself by faith, and to wait with patience for the event, we are bound to be thankful.
【시138:2 JFB】2. (Compare 시5:7).
thy word above all thy name—that is, God's promise (삼하7:12-16), sustained by His mercy and truth, exceeded all other manifestations of Himself as subject of praise.
【시138:3 JFB】3-5. That promise, as an answer to his prayers in distress, revived and strengthened his faith; and, as the basis of other revelations of the Messiah, it will be the occasion of praise by all who hear and receive it (시68:29, 31; 사4:3).
【시138:5 JFB】5. for great is the glory—or, "when the glory shall be great," in God's fulfilling His purposes of redemption.
【시138:6 JFB】6, 7. On this general principle of God's government (사2:11; 57:15; 66:2), he relies for God's favor in saving him, and overthrowing his enemies.
knoweth afar off—their ways and deserts (시1:6).
【시138:6 MHCC】Though the Lord is high, yet he has respect to every lowly, humbled sinner; but the proud and unbelieving will be banished far from his blissful presence. Divine consolations have enough in them to revive us, even when we walk in the midst of troubles. And God will save his own people that they may be revived by the Holy Spirit, the Giver of life and holiness. If we give to God the glory of his mercy, we may take to ourselves the comfort. This confidence will not do away, but quicken prayer. Whatever good there is in us, it is God works in us both to will and to do. The Lord will perfect the salvation of every true believer, and he will never forsake those whom he has created anew in Christ Jesus unto good works.
