창세기 32

1. 야곱이 그 길을 진행하더니 하나님의 사자들이 그를 만난지라
  Jacob also went on his way, and the angels of God met him.

2. 야곱이 그들을 볼 때에 이르기를 이는 하나님의 군대라 하고 그 땅 이름을 마하나임이라 하였더라
  When Jacob saw them, he said, "This is the camp of God!" So he named that place Mahanaim.

3. 야곱이 세일 땅 에돔 들에 있는 형 에서에게로 사자들을 자기보다 앞서 보내며
  Jacob sent messengers ahead of him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

4. 그들에게 부탁하여 가로되 너희는 이같이 내 주 에서에게 고하라 주의 종 야곱이 말하기를 내가 라반에게 붙여서 지금까지 있었사오며
  He instructed them: "This is what you are to say to my master Esau: 'Your servant Jacob says, I have been staying with Laban and have remained there till now.

5. 내게 소와 나귀와 양 떼와 노비가 있사오므로 사람을 보내어 내 주께 고하고 내 주께 은혜 받기를 원하나이다 하더라 하라 하였더니
  I have cattle and donkeys, sheep and goats, menservants and maidservants. Now I am sending this message to my lord, that I may find favor in your eyes.'"

6. 사자들이 야곱에게 돌아와 가로되 우리가 주인의 형 에서에게 이른즉 그가 사백 인을 거느리고 주인을 만나려고 오더이다
  When the messengers returned to Jacob, they said, "We went to your brother Esau, and now he is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him."

7. 야곱이 심히 두렵고 답답하여 자기와 함께한 종자와 양과 소와 약대를 두 떼로 나누고
  In great fear and distress Jacob divided the people who were with him into two groups, and the flocks and herds and camels as well.

8. 가로되 에서가 와서 한 떼를 치면 남은 한 떼는 피하리라 하고
  He thought, "If Esau comes and attacks one group, the group that is left may escape."

9. 야곱이 또 가로되 나의 조부 아브라함의 하나님, 나의 아버지 이삭의 하나님 여호와여 주께서 전에 내게 명하시기를 네 고향, 네 족속에게로 돌아가라 내가 네게 은혜를 베풀리라 하셨나이다
  Then Jacob prayed, "O God of my father Abraham, God of my father Isaac, O LORD, who said to me, 'Go back to your country and your relatives, and I will make you prosper,'

10. 나는 주께서 주의 종에게 베푸신 모든 은총과 모든 진리를 조금이라도 감당할 수 없사오나 내가 내 지팡이만 가지고 이 요단을 건넜더니 지금은 두 떼나 이루었나이다
  I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness you have shown your servant. I had only my staff when I crossed this Jordan, but now I have become two groups.

11. 내가 주께 간구하오니 내 형의 손에서 에서의 손에서 나를 건져내시옵소서 내가 그를 두려워하옴은 그가 와서 나와 내 처자들을 칠까 겁냄이니이다
  Save me, I pray, from the hand of my brother Esau, for I am afraid he will come and attack me, and also the mothers with their children.

12. 주께서 말씀하시기를 내가 정녕 네게 은혜를 베풀어 네 씨로 바다의 셀 수 없는 모래와 같이 많게 하리라 하셨나이다
  But you have said, 'I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.'"

13. 야곱이 거기서 경야하고 그 소유 중에서 형 에서를 위하여 예물을 택하니
  He spent the night there, and from what he had with him he selected a gift for his brother Esau:

14. 암염소가 이백이요 수염소가 이십이요 암양이 이백이요 수양이 이십이요
  two hundred female goats and twenty male goats, two hundred ewes and twenty rams,

15. 젖나는 약대 삼십과 그 새끼요 암소가 사십이요 황소가 열이요 암나귀가 이십이요 그 새끼나귀가 열이라
  thirty female camels with their young, forty cows and ten bulls, and twenty female donkeys and ten male donkeys.

16. 그것을 각각 떼로 나눠 종들의 손에 맡기고 그 종들에게 이르되 나보다 앞서 건너가서 각 떼로 상거가 뜨게 하라 하고
  He put them in the care of his servants, each herd by itself, and said to his servants, "Go ahead of me, and keep some space between the herds."

17. 그가 또 앞선 자에게 부탁하여 가로되 내 형 에서가 너를 만나 묻기를 네가 뉘 사람이며 어디로 가느냐 네 앞엣 것은 뉘 것이냐 하거든
  He instructed the one in the lead: "When my brother Esau meets you and asks, 'To whom do you belong, and where are you going, and who owns all these animals in front of you?'

18. 대답하기를 주의 종 야곱의 것이요 자기 주 에서에게로 보내는 예물이오며 야곱도 우리 뒤에 있나이다 하라 하고
  then you are to say, 'They belong to your servant Jacob. They are a gift sent to my lord Esau, and he is coming behind us.'"

19. 그 둘째와 세째와 각 떼를 따라가는 자에게 부탁하여 가로되 너희도 에서를 만나거든 곧 이같이 그에게 고하고
  He also instructed the second, the third and all the others who followed the herds: "You are to say the same thing to Esau when you meet him.

20. 또 너희는 말하기를 주의 종 야곱이 우리 뒤에 있다 하라 하니 이는 야곱의 생각에 내가 내 앞에 보내는 예물로 형의 감정을 푼 후에 대면하면 형이 혹시 나를 받으리라 함이었더라
  And be sure to say, 'Your servant Jacob is coming behind us.'" For he thought, "I will pacify him with these gifts I am sending on ahead; later, when I see him, perhaps he will receive me."

21. 그 예물은 그의 앞서 행하고 그는 무리 가운데서 경야하다가
  So Jacob's gifts went on ahead of him, but he himself spent the night in the camp.

22. 밤에 일어나 두 아내와 두 여종과 열 한 아들을 인도하여 얍복 나루를 건널쌔
  That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two maidservants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok.

23. 그들을 인도하여 시내를 건네며 그 소유도 건네고
  After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions.

24. 야곱은 홀로 남았더니 어떤 사람이 날이 새도록 야곱과 씨름하다가
  So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.

25. 그 사람이 자기가 야곱을 이기지 못함을 보고 야곱의 환도뼈를 치매 야곱의 환도뼈가 그 사람과 씨름할 때에 위골되었더라
  When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob's hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man.

26. 그 사람이 가로되 날이 새려하니 나로 가게 하라 야곱이 가로되 당신이 내게 축복하지 아니하면 가게 하지 아니하겠나이다
  Then the man said, "Let me go, for it is daybreak." But Jacob replied, "I will not let you go unless you bless me."

27. 그 사람이 그에게 이르되 네 이름이 무엇이냐 그가 가로되 야곱이니이다
  The man asked him, "What is your name?" "Jacob," he answered.

28. 그 사람이 가로되 네 이름을 다시는 야곱이라 부를 것이 아니요 이스라엘이라 부를 것이니 이는 네가 하나님과 사람으로 더불어 겨루어 이기었음이니라
  Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."

29. 야곱이 청하여 가로되 당신의 이름을 고하소서 그 사람이 가로되 어찌 내 이름을 묻느냐 하고 거기서 야곱에게 축복한지라
  Jacob said, "Please tell me your name." But he replied, "Why do you ask my name?" Then he blessed him there.

30. 그러므로 야곱이 그 곳 이름을 브니엘이라 하였으니 그가 이르기를 내가 하나님과 대면하여 보았으나 내 생명이 보전되었다 함이더라
  So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, "It is because I saw God face to face, and yet my life was spared."

31. 그가 브니엘을 지날 때에 해가 돋았고 그 환도뼈로 인하여 절었더라
  The sun rose above him as he passed Peniel, and he was limping because of his hip.

32. 그 사람이 야곱의 환도뼈 큰 힘줄을 친고로 이스라엘 사람들이 지금까지 환도뼈 큰 힘줄을 먹지 아니하더라
  Therefore to this day the Israelites do not eat the tendon attached to the socket of the hip, because the socket of Jacob's hip was touched near the tendon.

마가복음 3

1. 예수께서 다시 회당에 들어가시니 한편 손 마른 사람이 거기 있는지라
  Another time he went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there.

2. 사람들이 예수를 송사하려 하여 안식일에 그 사람을 고치시는가 엿보거늘
  Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath.

3. 예수께서 손 마른 사람에게 이르시되 한가운데 일어서라 하시고
  Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Stand up in front of everyone."

4. 저희에게 이르시되 안식일에 선을 행하는 것과 악을 행하는 것, 생명을 구하는 것과 죽이는 것, 어느 것이 옳으냐 하시니 저희가 잠잠하거늘
  Then Jesus asked them, "Which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?" But they remained silent.

5. 저희 마음의 완악함을 근심하사 노하심으로 저희를 둘러보시고 그 사람에게 이르시되 네 손을 내밀라 하시니 그가 내밀매 그 손이 회복되었더라
  He looked around at them in anger and, deeply distressed at their stubborn hearts, said to the man, "Stretch out your hand." He stretched it out, and his hand was completely restored.

6. 바리새인들이 나가서 곧 헤롯당과 함께 어떻게 하여 예수를 죽일꼬 의논하니라
  Then the Pharisees went out and began to plot with the Herodians how they might kill Jesus.

7. 예수께서 제자들과 함께 바다로 물러가시니 갈릴리에서 큰 무리가 좇으며
  Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the lake, and a large crowd from Galilee followed.

8. 유대와 예루살렘과 이두매와 요단 강 건너편과 또 두로와 시돈 근처에서 허다한 무리가 그의 하신 큰 일을 듣고 나아오는지라
  When they heard all he was doing, many people came to him from Judea, Jerusalem, Idumea, and the regions across the Jordan and around Tyre and Sidon.

9. 예수께서 무리의 에워싸 미는 것을 면키 위하여 작은 배를 등대하도록 제자들에게 명하셨으니
  Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him.

10. 이는 많은 사람을 고치셨으므로 병에 고생하는 자들이 예수를 만지고자 하여 핍근히 함이더라
  For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him.

11. 더러운 귀신들도 어느 때든지 예수를 보면 그 앞에 엎드려 부르짖어 가로되 당신은 하나님의 아들이니이다 하니
  Whenever the evil spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, "You are the Son of God."

12. 예수께서 자기를 나타내지 말라고 많이 경계하시니라
  But he gave them strict orders not to tell who he was.

13. 또 산에 오르사 자기의 원하는 자들을 부르시니 나아온지라
  Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him.

14. 이에 열둘을 세우셨으니 이는 자기와 함께 있게 하시고 또 보내사 전도도 하며
  He appointed twelve--designating them apostles--that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach

15. 귀신을 내어쫓는 권세도 있게 하려 하심이러라
  and to have authority to drive out demons.

16. 이 열둘을 세우셨으니 시몬에게는 베드로란 이름을 더하셨고
  These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter);

17. 또 세베대의 아들 야고보와 야고보의 형제 요한이니 이 둘에게는 보아너게 곧 우뢰의 아들이란 이름을 더하셨으며
  James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means Sons of Thunder);

18. 또 안드레와 빌립과 바돌로매와 마태와 도마와 알패오의 아들 야고보와 및 다대오와 가나안인 시몬이며
  Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot

19. 또 가룟 유다니 이는 예수를 판 자러라
  and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

20. 집에 들어가시니 무리가 다시 모이므로 식사할 겨를도 없는지라
  Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat.

21. 예수의 친속들이 듣고 붙들러 나오니 이는 그가 미쳤다 함일러라
  When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, "He is out of his mind."

22. 예루살렘에서 내려온 서기관들은 저가 바알세불을 지폈다 하며 또 귀신의 왕을 힘입어 귀신을 쫓아낸다 하니
  And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebub! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons."

23. 예수께서 저희를 불러다가 비유로 말씀하시되 사단이 어찌 사단을 쫓아낼 수 있느냐
  So Jesus called them and spoke to them in parables: "How can Satan drive out Satan?

24. 또 만일 나라가 스스로 분쟁하면 그 나라가 설 수 없고
  If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand.

25. 만일 집이 스스로 분쟁하면 그 집이 설 수 없고
  If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

26. 만일 사단이 자기를 거스려 일어나 분쟁하면 설 수 없고 이에 망하느니라
  And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come.

27. 사람이 먼저 강한 자를 결박지 않고는 그 강한 자의 집에 들어가 세간을 늑탈치 못하리니 결박한 후에야 그 집을 늑탈하리라
  In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can rob his house.

28. 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 사람의 모든 죄와 무릇 훼방하는 훼방은 사하심을 얻되
  I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them.

29. 누구든지 성령을 훼방하는 자는 사하심을 영원히 얻지 못하고 영원한 죄에 처하느니라 하시니
  But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin."

30. 이는 저희가 말하기를 더러운 귀신이 들렸다 함이러라
  He said this because they were saying, "He has an evil spirit."

31. 때에 예수의 모친과 동생들이 와서 밖에 서서 사람을 보내어 예수를 부르니
  Then Jesus' mother and brothers arrived. Standing outside, they sent someone in to call him.

32. 무리가 예수를 둘러앉았다가 여짜오되 보소서 당신의 모친과 동생들과 누이들이 밖에서 찾나이다
  A crowd was sitting around him, and they told him, "Your mother and brothers are outside looking for you."

33. 대답하시되 누가 내 모친이며 동생들이냐 하시고
  "Who are my mother and my brothers?" he asked.

34. 둘러앉은 자들을 둘러보시며 가라사대 내 모친과 내 동생들을 보라
  Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers!

35. 누구든지 하나님의 뜻대로 하는 자는 내 형제요 자매요 모친이니라
  Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother."

■ 혼자 읽기

에스더 8

1. 당일에 아하수에로 왕이 유다인의 대적 하만의 집을 왕후 에스더에게 주니라 에스더가 모르드개는 자기에게 어떻게 관계됨을 왕께 고한 고로 모르드개가 왕의 앞에 나아오니
  That same day King Xerxes gave Queen Esther the estate of Haman, the enemy of the Jews. And Mordecai came into the presence of the king, for Esther had told how he was related to her.

2. 왕이 하만에게 거둔 반지를 빼어 모르드개에게 준지라 에스더가 모르드개로 하만의 집을 주관하게 하니라
  The king took off his signet ring, which he had reclaimed from Haman, and presented it to Mordecai. And Esther appointed him over Haman's estate.

3. 에스더가 다시 왕의 앞에서 말씀하며 왕의 발 아래 엎드려 아각 사람 하만이 유다인을 해하려 한 악한 꾀를 제하기를 울며 구하니
  Esther again pleaded with the king, falling at his feet and weeping. She begged him to put an end to the evil plan of Haman the Agagite, which he had devised against the Jews.

4. 왕이 에스더를 향하여 금홀을 내어미는지라 에스더가 일어나 왕의 앞에 서서
  Then the king extended the gold scepter to Esther and she arose and stood before him.

5. 가로되 왕이 만일 즐겨하시며 내가 왕의 목전에 은혜를 입었고 또 왕이 이 일을 선히 여기시며 나를 기쁘게 보실찐대 조서를 내리사 아각 사람 함므다다의 아들 하만이 왕의 각 도에 있는 유다인을 멸하려고 꾀하고 쓴 조서를 취소하소서
  "If it pleases the king," she said, "and if he regards me with favor and thinks it the right thing to do, and if he is pleased with me, let an order be written overruling the dispatches that Haman son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, devised and wrote to destroy the Jews in all the king's provinces.

6. 내가 어찌 내 민족의 화당함을 참아 보며 내 친척의 멸망함을 참아 보리이까
  For how can I bear to see disaster fall on my people? How can I bear to see the destruction of my family?"

7. 아하수에로 왕이 왕후 에스더와 유다인 모르드개에게 이르되 하만이 유다인을 살해하려 하므로 나무에 달렸고 내가 그 집으로 에스더에게 주었으니
  King Xerxes replied to Queen Esther and to Mordecai the Jew, "Because Haman attacked the Jews, I have given his estate to Esther, and they have hanged him on the gallows.

8. 너희는 왕의 명의로 유다인에게 조서를 뜻대로 쓰고 왕의 반지로 인을 칠찌어다 왕의 이름을 쓰고 왕의 반지로 인친 조서는 누구든지 취소할 수 없음이니라
  Now write another decree in the king's name in behalf of the Jews as seems best to you, and seal it with the king's signet ring--for no document written in the king's name and sealed with his ring can be revoked."

9. 그때 시완월 곧 삼월 이십 삼일에 왕의 서기관이 소집되고 무릇 모르드개의 시키는대로 조서를 써서 인도로부터 구스까지의 일백 이십 칠도 유다인과 대신과 방백과 관원에게 전할쌔 각 도의 문자와 각 민족의 방언과 유다인의 문자와 방언대로 쓰되
  At once the royal secretaries were summoned--on the twenty-third day of the third month, the month of Sivan. They wrote out all Mordecai's orders to the Jews, and to the satraps, governors and nobles of the 127 provinces stretching from India to Cush. These orders were written in the script of each province and the language of each people and also to the Jews in their own script and language.

10. 아하수에로 왕의 명의로 쓰고 왕의 반지로 인을 치고 그 조서를 역졸들에게 부쳐 전하게 하니 저희는 왕궁에서 길러서 왕의 일에 쓰는 준마를 타는 자들이라
  Mordecai wrote in the name of King Xerxes, sealed the dispatches with the king's signet ring, and sent them by mounted couriers, who rode fast horses especially bred for the king.

11. 조서에는 왕이 여러 고을에 있는 유다인에게 허락하여 저희로 함께 모여 스스로 생명을 보호하여 각 도의 백성 중 세력을 가지고 저희를 치려 하는 자와 그 처자를 죽이고 도륙하고 진멸하고 그 재산을 탈취하게 하되
  The king's edict granted the Jews in every city the right to assemble and protect themselves; to destroy, kill and annihilate any armed force of any nationality or province that might attack them and their women and children; and to plunder the property of their enemies.

12. 아하수에로 왕의 각 도에서 아달월 곧 십이월 십삼일 하루 동안에 하게 하였고
  The day appointed for the Jews to do this in all the provinces of King Xerxes was the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar.

13. 이 조서 초본을 각 도에 전하고 각 민족에게 반포하고 유다인으로 예비하였다가 그 날에 대적에게 원수를 갚게 한지라
  A copy of the text of the edict was to be issued as law in every province and made known to the people of every nationality so that the Jews would be ready on that day to avenge themselves on their enemies.

14. 왕의 명이 심히 급하매 역졸이 왕의 일에 쓰는 준마를 타고 빨리 나가고 그 조서가 도성 수산에도 반포되니라
  The couriers, riding the royal horses, raced out, spurred on by the king's command. And the edict was also issued in the citadel of Susa.

15. 모르드개가 푸르고 흰 조복을 입고 큰 금면류관을 쓰고 자색 가는 베 겉옷을 입고 왕의 앞에서 나오니 수산 성이 즐거이 부르며 기뻐하고
  Mordecai left the king's presence wearing royal garments of blue and white, a large crown of gold and a purple robe of fine linen. And the city of Susa held a joyous celebration.

16. 유다인에게는 영광과 즐거움과 기쁨과 존귀함이 있는지라
  For the Jews it was a time of happiness and joy, gladness and honor.

17. 왕의 조명이 이르는 각 도, 각 읍에서 유다인이 즐기고 기뻐하여 잔치를 베풀고 그 날로 경절을 삼으니 본토 백성이 유다인을 두려워하여 유다인 되는 자가 많더라
  In every province and in every city, wherever the edict of the king went, there was joy and gladness among the Jews, with feasting and celebrating. And many people of other nationalities became Jews because fear of the Jews had seized them.

로마서 3

1. 그런즉 유대인의 나음이 무엇이며 할례의 유익이 무엇이뇨
  What advantage, then, is there in being a Jew, or what value is there in circumcision?

2. 범사에 많으니 첫째는 저희가 하나님의 말씀을 맡았음이니라
  Much in every way! First of all, they have been entrusted with the very words of God.

3. 어떤 자들이 믿지 아니하였으면 어찌하리요 그 믿지 아니함이 하나님의 미쁘심을 폐하겠느뇨
  What if some did not have faith? Will their lack of faith nullify God's faithfulness?

4. 그럴 수 없느니라 사람은 다 거짓되되 오직 하나님은 참되시다 할찌어다 기록된바 주께서 주의 말씀에 의롭다 함을 얻으시고 판단 받으실 때에 이기려 하심이라 함과 같으니라
  Not at all! Let God be true, and every man a liar. As it is written: "So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge."

5. 그러나 우리 불의가 하나님의 의를 드러나게 하면 무슨 말 하리요 내가 사람의 말하는 대로 말하노니 진노를 내리시는 하나님이 불의하시냐
  But if our unrighteousness brings out God's righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.)

6. 결코 그렇지 아니하니라 만일 그러하면 하나님께서 어찌 세상을 심판하시리요
  Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world?

7. 그러나 나의 거짓말로 하나님의 참되심이 더 풍성하여 그의 영광이 되었으면 어찌 나도 죄인처럼 심판을 받으리요
  Someone might argue, "If my falsehood enhances God's truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?"

8. 또는 그러면 선을 이루기 위하여 악을 행하자 하지 않겠느냐 (어떤 이들이 이렇게 비방하여 우리가 이런 말을 한다고 하니) 저희가 정죄 받는 것이 옳으니라
  Why not say--as we are being slanderously reported as saying and as some claim that we say--"Let us do evil that good may result"? Their condemnation is deserved.

9. 그러면 어떠하뇨 우리는 나으뇨 결코 아니라 유대인이나 헬라인이나 다 죄 아래 있다고 우리가 이미 선언하였느니라
  What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin.

10. 기록한 바 의인은 없나니 하나도 없으며
  As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one;

11. 깨닫는 자도 없고 하나님을 찾는 자도 없고
  there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.

12. 다 치우쳐 한가지로 무익하게 되고 선을 행하는 자는 없나니 하나도 없도다
  All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."

13. 저희 목구멍은 열린 무덤이요 그 혀로는 속임을 베풀며 그 입술에는 독사의 독이 있고
  "Their throats are open graves; their tongues practice deceit." "The poison of vipers is on their lips."

14. 그 입에는 저주와 악독이 가득하고
  "Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness."

15. 그 발은 피 흘리는 데 빠른지라
  "Their feet are swift to shed blood;

16. 파멸과 고생이 그 길에 있어
  ruin and misery mark their ways,

17. 평강의 길을 알지 못하였고
  and the way of peace they do not know."

18. 저희 눈 앞에 하나님을 두려워함이 없느니라 함과 같으니라
  "There is no fear of God before their eyes."

19. 우리가 알거니와 무릇 율법이 말하는 바는 율법 아래 있는 자들에게 말하는 것이니 이는 모든 입을 막고 온 세상으로 하나님의 심판 아래 있게 하려 함이니라
  Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God.

20. 그러므로 율법의 행위로 그의 앞에 의롭다 하심을 얻을 육체가 없나니 율법으로는 죄를 깨달음이니라
  Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

21. 이제는 율법 외에 하나님의 한 의가 나타났으니 율법과 선지자들에게 증거를 받은 것이라
  But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.

22. 곧 예수 그리스도를 믿음으로 말미암아 모든 믿는 자에게 미치는 하나님의 의니 차별이 없느니라
  This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,

23. 모든 사람이 죄를 범하였으매 하나님의 영광에 이르지 못하더니
  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

24. 그리스도 예수 안에 있는 구속으로 말미암아 하나님의 은혜로 값없이 의롭다 하심을 얻은 자 되었느니라
  and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

25. 이 예수를 하나님이 그의 피로 인하여 믿음으로 말미암는 화목제물로 세우셨으니 이는 하나님께서 길이 참으시는 중에 전에 지은 죄를 간과하심으로 자기의 의로우심을 나타내려 하심이니
  God presented him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in his blood. He did this to demonstrate his justice, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished--

26. 곧 이 때에 자기의 의로우심을 나타내사 자기도 의로우시며 또한 예수 믿는 자를 의롭다 하려 하심이니라
  he did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus.

27. 그런즉 자랑할 데가 어디뇨 있을 수가 없느니라 무슨 법으로냐 행위로냐 아니라 오직 믿음의 법으로니라
  Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith.

28. 그러므로 사람이 의롭다 하심을 얻는 것은 율법의 행위에 있지 않고 믿음으로 되는 줄 우리가 인정하노라
  For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.

29. 하나님은 홀로 유대인의 하나님뿐이시뇨 또 이방인의 하나님은 아니시뇨 진실로 이방인의 하나님도 되시느니라
  Is God the God of Jews only? Is he not the God of Gentiles too? Yes, of Gentiles too,

30. 할례자도 믿음으로 말미암아 또는 무할례자도 믿음으로 말미암아 의롭다 하실 하나님은 한 분이시니라
  since there is only one God, who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through that same faith.

31. 그런즉 우리가 믿음으로 말미암아 율법을 폐하느뇨 그럴 수 없느니라 도리어 율법을 굳게 세우느니라
  Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law.
