■ 역대하 4장

1. 솔로몬이 또 놋으로 단을 만들었으니 장이 이십 규빗이요 광이 이십 규빗이요 고가 십 규빗이며

  Moreover he made an altar of brass , twenty cubits the length thereof, and twenty cubits the breadth thereof, and ten cubits the height thereof.

 

2. 또 바다를 부어 만들었으니 직경이 십 규빗이요 그 모양이 둥글며 그 고는 다섯 규빗이요 주위는 삼십 규빗 줄을 두를 만하며

  Also he made a molten sea of ten cubits from brim to brim , round in compass , and five cubits the height thereof; and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about .

 

3. 그 가장자리 아래에는 돌아가며 소 형상이 있는데 매 규빗에 소가 열씩 있어서 바다 주위에 둘렸으니 그 소는 바다를 부어 만들 때에 두 줄로 부어 만들었으며

  And under it was the similitude of oxen , which did compass it round about : ten in a cubit , compassing the sea round about . Two rows of oxen were cast , when it was cast .

 

4. 그 바다를 열두 소가 받쳤으니 셋은 북을 향하였고 셋은 서를 향하였고 셋은 남을 향하였고 셋은 동을 향하였으며 바다를 그 위에 놓았고 소의 뒤는 다 안으로 두었으며

  It stood upon twelve oxen , three looking toward the north , and three looking toward the west , and three looking toward the south , and three looking toward the east : and the sea was set above upon them, and all their hinder parts were inward .

 

5. 바다의 두께는 한 손 넓이만 하고 그 가는 백합화의 식양으로 잔 가와 같이 만들었으니 그 바다에는 삼천 밧을 담겠으며

  And the thickness of it was an handbreadth , and the brim of it like the work of the brim of a cup , with flowers of lilies ; and it received and held three thousand baths .

 

6. 또 물두멍 열을 만들어 다섯은 우편에 두고 다섯은 좌편에 두어 씻게 하였으며 그 바다는 제사장들의 씻기를 위한 것이더라

  He made also ten lavers , and put five on the right hand , and five on the left , to wash in them: such things as they offered for the burnt offering they washed in them; but the sea was for the priests to wash in .

 

7. 또 정식을 따라 금으로 등대 열을 만들어 외소 안에 두었으니 좌편에 다섯이요 우편에 다섯이며

  And he made ten candlesticks of gold according to their form , and set them in the temple , five on the right hand , and five on the left .

 

8. 또 상 열을 만들어 외소 안에 두었으니 좌편에 다섯이요 우편에 다섯이며 또 금으로 대접 일백을 만들었고

  He made also ten tables , and placed them in the temple , five on the right side , and five on the left . And he made an hundred basons of gold .

 

9. 또 제사장의 뜰과 큰 뜰과 뜰문을 만들고 놋으로 그 문짝에 입혔고

  Furthermore he made the court of the priests , and the great court , and doors for the court , and overlaid the doors of them with brass .

 

10. 그 바다는 전 우편 동남방에 두었더라

  And he set the sea on the right side of the east end , over against the south .

 

11. 후람이 또 솥과 부삽과 대접을 만들었더라 이와 같이 후람이 솔로몬 왕을 위하여 하나님의 전에서 하는 일을 마쳤으니

  And Huram made the pots , and the shovels , and the basons . And Huram finished the work that he was to make for king Solomon for the house of God ;

 

12. 곧 기둥 둘과 그 기둥 꼭대기의 공 같은 머리 둘과 또 기둥 꼭대기의 공 같은 기둥 머리를 가리우는 그물 둘과

  To wit, the two pillars , and the pommels , and the chapiters which were on the top of the two pillars , and the two wreaths to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were on the top of the pillars ;

 

13. 또 그 그물들을 위하여 만든바 매 그물에 두 줄씩으로 기둥 위의 공 같은 두 머리를 가리우게 한 사백 석류와

  And four hundred pomegranates on the two wreaths ; two rows of pomegranates on each wreath , to cover the two pommels of the chapiters which were upon the pillars .

 

14. 또 받침과 받침 위의 물두멍과

  He made also bases , and lavers made he upon the bases ;

 

15. 한 바다와 그 바다 아래 열두 소와

  One sea , and twelve oxen under it.

 

16. 솥과 부삽과 고기 갈고리와 여호와의 전의 모든 그릇들이라 후람의 아비가 솔로몬 왕을 위하여 빛난 놋으로 만들 때에

  The pots also, and the shovels , and the fleshhooks , and all their instruments , did Huram his father make to king Solomon for the house of the Lord of bright brass .

 

17. 왕이 요단 평지에서 숙곳과 스레다 사이의 차진 흙에 그것들을 부어 내었더라

  In the plain of Jordan did the king cast them, in the clay ground between Succoth and Zeredathah .

 

18. 이와 같이 솔로몬이 이 모든 기구를 심히 많이 만들었으므로 그 놋 중수를 능히 측량할 수 없었더라

  Thus Solomon made all these vessels in great abundance : for the weight of the brass could not be found out .

 

19. 솔로몬이 또 하나님의 전의 모든 기구를 만들었으니 곧 금단과 진설병 상들과

  And Solomon made all the vessels that were for the house of God , the golden altar also, and the tables whereon the shewbread was set;

 

20. 내소 앞에서 규례대로 불을 켤 정금 등대와 그 등잔이며

  Moreover the candlesticks with their lamps , that they should burn after the manner before the oracle , of pure gold ;

 

21. 또 순정한 금으로 만든 꽃과 등잔과 화젓가락이며

  And the flowers , and the lamps , and the tongs , made he of gold , and that perfect gold ;

 

22. 또 정금으로 만든 불집게와 주발과 숟가락과 불 옮기는 그릇이며 또 전 문 곧 지성소의 문과 외소의 문을 금으로 입혔더라

  And the snuffers , and the basons , and the spoons , and the censers , of pure gold : and the entry of the house , the inner doors thereof for the most holy place, and the doors of the house of the temple , were of gold .

【대하4:1 JFB】대하4:1. Altar of Brass.
1. he made an altar of brass—Steps must have been necessary for ascending so elevated an altar, but the use of these could be no longer forbidden (출20:26) after the introduction of an official costume for the priests (출28:42). It measured thirty-five feet by thirty-five, and in height seventeen and a half feet. The thickness of the metal used for this altar is nowhere given; but supposing it to have been three inches, the whole weight of the metal would not be under two hundred tons [Napier].

 

【대하4:1 CWC】[SOLOMON'S REIGN]
1. His Prayer and Its Answer, 1:1-3.
With verses three and four compare 1 Chronicles 16, and especially verses 37-40. The tabernacle at Gibeon was the legal place for worship, but the threshing-floor on Mt. Moriah was chosen by David for the reason given (대상21:29). A comparison with the corresponding place in 1 Kings will show how this account is abbreviated as the matter was not necessary to the author's purpose.
2. His Power and Wealth, 1:14-17.
This record is given in Kings near the close of the reign, but inserted here as a proof of the instant fulfillment of God's promise.
3. His Erection and Dedication of the Temple, cc. 2-7.
"Huram" is the same with whom we have previously met. The two houses (2:1) are the temple and Solomon's palace. The description of the temple here differs in several particulars from that in Kings. For example, this is more particular as to the plan of the building but less so as to the time when it began; this speaks of the arrangement of the building and its furnishings in an unbroken narrative, but that has two interruptions; this arranges the objects differently and describes with more fullness in some cases, etc. But remember what has been said about the Holy Spirit as the real author of Scripture, and His right to use such liberty to emphasize certain facts or impress certain lessons as He desires. This does not take into account errors of copyists to which reference also has been made.
Here the location of the temple is named for the first time (3:1), (compare 창22:2). "Moriah" means "land of the appearing of the Lord." Note the reference to the brazen scaffold (4:13) not given in Kings, the additional words at the close of Solomon's prayer (vv. 40-42), and the fuller account of the divine acceptance of the temple (7:1-10).
The large number of oxen and sheep offered in sacrifice is astounding (7:5), but Josephus in his "Wars of the Jews" says that even in Roman times, 256,000 passover lambs were slain at Jerusalem within a few hours. A current commentator reminds us that these colossal offerings and festivals are no more astonishing to us than the magnitude of our steam or railway trade, or of modern warfare would be astonishing to the ancients.
4. His Earthly End, cc. 8, 9.
In the first of these chapters we have brief notes of events recorded more at length in 1 Kings, for example: the building of certain cities, the palace for the daughter of the Egyptian king, the navigation to Ophir, etc. The comments upon these in that book occupy as much space as seems relatively necessary.
In the next chapter the story of the Queen of Sheba is very much as in 1 Kings.

 

【대하4:1 MHCC】The furniture of the temple.
—Here is a further account of the furniture of God's house. Both without doors and within, there was that which typified the grace of the gospel, and shadowed out good things to come, of which the substance is Christ. There was the brazen altar. The making of this was not mentioned in the book of Kings. On this all the sacrifices were offered, and it sanctified the gift. The people who worshipped in the courts might see the sacrifices burned. They might thus be led to consider the great Sacrifice, to be offered in the fulness of time, to take away sin, and put an end to death, which the blood of bulls and goats could not possibly do. And, with the smoke of the sacrifices, their hearts might ascend to heaven, in holy desires towards God and his favour. In all our devotions we must keep the eye of faith fixed upon Christ. The furniture of the temple, compared with that of the tabernacle, showed that God's church would be enlarged, and his worshippers multiplied. Blessed be God, there is enough in Christ for all.

 

【대하4:2 JFB】대하4:2-5. Molten Sea.
2. he made a molten sea—(See on 왕상7:23), as in that passage "knops" occur instead of "oxen." It is generally supposed that the rows of ornamental knops were in the form of ox heads.

 

【대하4:3 JFB】3. Two rows of oxen were cast, when it was cast—The meaning is, that the circular basin and the brazen oxen which supported it were all of one piece, being cast in one and the same mould. There is a difference in the accounts given of the capacity of this basin, for while in 왕상7:26 it is said that two thousand baths of water could be contained in it, in this passage no less than three thousand are stated. It has been suggested that there is here a statement not merely of the quantity of water which the basin held, but that also which was necessary to work it, to keep it flowing as a fountain; that which was required to fill both it and its accompaniments. In support of this view, it may be remarked that different words are employed: the one in 왕상7:26 rendered contained; the two here rendered, received and held. There was a difference between receiving and holding. When the basin played as a fountain, and all its parts were filled for that purpose, the latter, together with the sea itself, received three thousand baths; but the sea exclusively held only two thousand baths, when its contents were restricted to those of the circular basin. It received and held three thousand baths [Calmet, Fragments].

 

【대하4:6 JFB】대하4:6-18. The Ten Lavers, Candlesticks, and Tables.
6. ten lavers—(See on 왕상7:27). The laver of the tabernacle had probably been destroyed. The ten new ones were placed between the porch and the altar, and while the molten sea was for the priests to cleanse their hands and feet, these were intended for washing the sacrifices.

 

【대하4:7 JFB】7. ten candlesticks—(See on 왕상7:49). The increased number was not only in conformity with the characteristic splendor of the edifice, but also a standing emblem to the Hebrews, that the growing light of the word was necessary to counteract the growing darkness in the world [Lightfoot].
