■ 잠언 5장
1. 내 아들아 내 지혜에 주의하며 내 명철에 네 귀를 기울여서
My son , attend unto my wisdom , and bow thine ear to my understanding :
2. 근신을 지키며 네 입술로 지식을 지키도록 하라
That thou mayest regard discretion , and that thy lips may keep knowledge .
3. 대저 음녀의 입술은 꿀을 떨어뜨리며 그 입은 기름보다 미끄러우나
For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb , and her mouth is smoother than oil :
4. 나중은 쑥 같이 쓰고 두 날 가진 칼 같이 날카로우며
But her end is bitter as wormwood , sharp as a twoedged sword .
5. 그 발은 사지로 내려가며 그 걸음은 음부로 나아가나니
Her feet go down to death ; her steps take hold on hell .
6. 그는 생명의 평탄한 길을 찾지 못하며 자기 길이 든든치 못하여 그것을 깨닫지 못하느니라
Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life , her ways are moveable , that thou canst not know them.
7. 그런즉 아들들아 나를 들으며 내 입의 말을 버리지 말고
Hear me now therefore, O ye children , and depart not from the words of my mouth .
8. 네 길을 그에게서 멀리하라 그 집 문에도 가까이 가지 말라
Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house :
9. 두렵건대 네 존영이 남에게 잃어버리게 되며 네 수한이 잔포자에게 빼앗기게 될까 하노라
Lest thou give thine honour unto others , and thy years unto the cruel :
10. 두렵건대 타인이 네 재물로 충족하게 되며 네 수고한 것이 외인의 집에 있게 될까 하노라
Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth ; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger ;
11. 두렵건대 마지막에 이르러 네 몸, 네 육체가 쇠패할 때에 네가 한탄하여
And thou mourn at the last , when thy flesh and thy body are consumed ,
12. 말하기를 내가 어찌하여 훈계를 싫어하며 내 마음이 꾸지람을 가벼이 여기고
And say , How have I hated instruction , and my heart despised reproof ;
13. 내 선생의 목소리를 청종치 아니하며 나를 가르치는 이에게 귀를 기울이지 아니하였던고
And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers , nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!
14. 많은 무리들이 모인 중에서 모든 악에 거의 빠지게 되었었노라 하게 될까 하노라
I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly .
15. 너는 네 우물에서 물을 마시며 네 샘에서 흐르는 물을 마시라
Drink waters out of thine own cistern , and running waters out of thine own well .
16. 어찌하여 네 샘물을 집 밖으로 넘치게 하겠으며 네 도랑물을 거리로 흘러가게 하겠느냐
Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad , and rivers of waters in the streets .
17. 그 물로 네게만 있게 하고 타인으로 더불어 그것을 나누지 말라
Let them be only thine own, and not strangers’ with thee.
18. 네 샘으로 복되게 하라 네가 젊어서 취한 아내를 즐거워하라
Let thy fountain be blessed : and rejoice with the wife of thy youth .
19. 그는 사랑스러운 암사슴 같고 아름다운 암노루 같으니 너는 그 품을 항상 족하게 여기며 그 사랑을 항상 연모하라
Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe ; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times ; and be thou ravished always with her love .
20. 내 아들아 어찌하여 음녀를 연모하겠으며 어찌하여 이방 계집의 가슴을 안겠느냐
And why wilt thou, my son , be ravished with a strange woman , and embrace the bosom of a stranger ?
21. 대저 사람의 길은 여호와의 눈 앞에 있나니 그가 그 모든 길을 평탄케 하시느니라
For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord , and he pondereth all his goings .
22. 악인은 자기의 악에 걸리며 그 죄의 줄에 매이나니
His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins .
23. 그는 훈계를 받지 아니함을 인하여 죽겠고 미련함이 많음을 인하여 혼미하게 되느니라
He shall die without instruction ; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray .

【잠5:1 JFB】잠5:1-23. A warning against the seductive arts of wicked women, enforced by considering the advantages of chastity, and the miserable end of the wicked.
1. This connection of wisdom and understanding is frequent (잠2:2; 3:7); the first denotes the use of wise means for wise ends; the other, the exercise of a proper discrimination in their discovery.
【잠5:1 CWC】These chapters begin with reminiscence. A father is reciting to a son the precepts taught him by his father in his youth, and which cover chapter four. Chapter five is a warning against the evil woman. Chapter six deals with suretyship, indolence, malice and violence, while chapter seven returns to the theme of chapter five.
In the first-named chapter occurs the beautiful illustration of Hebrew rhythm to which attention was called in Lesson 1; and following it we find in verses 18 and 23, two of as oft-quoted texts as are in the whole book.
The "just" man, as usual in the Bible, is he who is justified by faith and walks with God in a holy obedience. On him the Sun of Righteousness shines. His new life is at first like the morning light, a struggle between the darkness and the dawn. Ere long the doubt vanishes, and morning is unequivocally declared. The counterpart is fitted to overawe the boldest heart, "The way of the wicked is as darkness, they know not at what they stumble." The thought is that the darkness is in them and they carry it, an evil heart of unbelief, wherever they go.
As to the other text, notice the fountain -- the heart (v. 23), and then the stream -- the mouth, the eyes, the feet (vv. 24-27). The heart is kept by prayer and the Word of God, and then the life issuing from it is what it ought to be. The speech is pure, and true and potent. There are no secret longings and side glances after forbidden things, and the steps in matters of business, society, and the home are all ordered of the Lord. (Compare Christ's words. 마15:18-20).
Family Joys.
We have spoken of chapter five as a warning against the evil woman, which is true of its first half; but the reader will observe how the warning is accentuated by the contrast of the pure and happy home life in the second half, beginning at verse 15. The former is a dark back ground to bring out the latter's beauty. The keynote of the first half is "remove far from her." She is deceitful (vv. 3, 4), unstable (v. 6) and cruel (v. 9). To associate with her means waste of property and health (vv. 8, 9), and at the last remorse (vv. 12-14).
The home in comparison is a pure and well-guarded well (v. 15). Read verses 16 and 17 in the Revised Version, and observe a husband's duty toward his wife (v. 18). Let him avoid biting words, neglect, unnecessary absences and the like. And as Paul says (엡5:33), let "the wife see that she reverence her husband."
The suretyship against which we are warned (6:1-5) is of the inconsiderate kind. "That imprudent assumption of such obligations leaving out of account the moral unreliableness of the man involved." The advice is to get the quickest release possible (vv. 3-5). It does not mean that we should not kindly and prudently help a neighbor in financial need, if we can.
The "mother" of verses 20-24 must be one who knows God, for it is the instilling of His Word only in the heart of her child that can produce the results indicated. Observe it is a grown son here referred to as keeping his mother's law.
【잠5:1 MHCC】Solomon cautions all young men, as his children, to abstain from fleshly lusts. Some, by the adulterous woman, here understand idolatry, false doctrine, which tends to lead astray men's minds and manners; but the direct view is to warn against seventh-commandment sins. Often these have been, and still are, Satan's method of drawing men from the worship of God into false religion. Consider how fatal the consequences; how bitter the fruit! Take it any way, it wounds. It leads to the torments of hell. The direct tendency of this sin is to the destruction of body and soul. We must carefully avoid every thing which may be a step towards it. Those who would be kept from harm, must keep out of harm's way. If we thrust ourselves into temptation we mock God when we pray, Lead us not into temptation. How many mischiefs attend this sin! It blasts the reputation; it wastes time; it ruins the estate; it is destructive to health; it will fill the mind with horror. Though thou art merry now, yet sooner or later it will bring sorrow. The convinced sinner reproaches himself, and makes no excuse for his folly. By the frequent acts of sin, the habits of it become rooted and confirmed. By a miracle of mercy true repentance may prevent the dreadful consequences of such sins; but this is not often; far more die as they have lived. What can express the case of the self-ruined sinner in the eternal world, enduring the remorse of his conscience!

flesh and … body—the whole person under incurable disease.
【잠5:12 JFB】12-14. The ruined sinner vainly laments his neglect of warning and his sad fate in being brought to public disgrace.
【잠5:14 JFB】14. evil—for affliction, as in 창19:20; 49:15.
【잠5:15 JFB】15-20. By figures, in which well, cistern, and fountain [잠5:15, 18] represent the wife, and rivers of waters [잠5:16] the children, men are exhorted to constancy and satisfaction in lawful conjugal enjoyments. In 잠5:16, fountains (in the plural) rather denote the produce or waters of a spring, literally, "what is from a spring," and corresponds with "rivers of waters."
【잠5:15 MHCC】Lawful marriage is a means God has appointed to keep from these destructive vices. But we are not properly united, except as we attend to God's word, seeking his direction and blessing, and acting with affection. Ever remember, that though secret sins may escape the eyes of our fellow-creatures, yet a man's ways are before the eyes of the Lord, who not only sees, but ponders all his goings. Those who are so foolish as to choose the way of sin, are justly left of God to themselves, to go on in the way to destruction.
