■ 잠언 27장
1. 너는 내일 일을 자랑하지 말라 하루 동안에 무슨 일이 날는지 네가 알 수 없음이니라
Boast not thyself of to morrow ; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth .
2. 타인으로 너를 칭찬하게 하고 네 입으로는 말며 외인으로 너를 칭찬하게 하고 네 입술로는 말지니라
Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth ; a stranger , and not thine own lips .
3. 돌은 무겁고 모래도 가볍지 아니하거니와 미련한 자의 분노는 이 둘보다 무거우니라
A stone is heavy , and the sand weighty ; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than them both .
4. 분은 잔인하고 노는 창수 같거니와 투기 앞에야 누가 서리요
Wrath is cruel , and anger is outrageous ; but who is able to stand before envy ?
5. 면책은 숨은 사랑보다 나으니라
Open rebuke is better than secret love .
6. 친구의 통책은 충성에서 말미암은 것이나 원수의 자주 입맞춤은 거짓에서 난 것이니라
Faithful are the wounds of a friend ; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful .
7. 배부른 자는 꿀이라도 싫어하고 주린 자에게는 쓴 것이라도 다니라
The full soul loatheth an honeycomb ; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet .
8. 본향을 떠나 유리하는 사람은 보금자리를 떠나 떠도는 새와 같으니라
As a bird that wandereth from her nest , so is a man that wandereth from his place .
9. 기름과 향이 사람의 마음을 즐겁게 하나니 친구의 충성된 권고가 이와 같이 아름다우니라
Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart : so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel .
10. 네 친구와 네 아비의 친구를 버리지 말며 네 환난날에 형제의 집에 들어가지 말지어다 가까운 이웃이 먼 형제보다 나으니라
Thine own friend , and thy father’s friend , forsake not; neither go into thy brother’s house in the day of thy calamity : for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off .
11. 내 아들아 지혜를 얻고 내 마음을 기쁘게 하라 그리하면 나를 비방하는 자에게 내가 대답할 수 있겠노라
My son , be wise , and make my heart glad , that I may answer him that reproacheth me.
12. 슬기로운 자는 재앙을 보면 숨어 피하여도 어리석은 자들은 나아가다가 해를 받느니라
A prudent man foreseeth the evil , and hideth himself; but the simple pass on , and are punished .
13. 타인을 위하여 보증이 된 자의 옷을 취하라 외인들의 보증이 된 자는 그 몸을 볼모잡힐지니라
Take his garment that is surety for a stranger , and take a pledge of him for a strange woman .
14. 이른 아침에 큰 소리로 그 이웃을 축복하면 도리어 저주 같이 여기게 되리라
He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice , rising early in the morning , it shall be counted a curse to him.
15. 다투는 부녀는 비오는 날에 이어 떨어지는 물방울이라
A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike .
16. 그를 제어하기가 바람을 제어하는 것 같고 오른손으로 기름을 움키는 것 같으니라
Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind , and the ointment of his right hand , which bewrayeth itself.
17. 철이 철을 날카롭게 하는 것 같이 사람이 그 친구의 얼굴을 빛나게 하느니라
Iron sharpeneth iron ; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend .
18. 무화과나무를 지키는 자는 그 과실을 먹고 자기 주인을 시종하는 자는 영화를 얻느니라
Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured .
19. 물에 비취이면 얼굴이 서로 같은 것 같이 사람의 마음도 서로 비취느니라
As in water face answereth to face , so the heart of man to man .
20. 음부와 유명은 만족함이 없고 사람의 눈도 만족함이 없느니라
Hell and destruction are never full ; so the eyes of man are never satisfied .
21. 도가니로 은을, 풀무로 금을, 칭찬으로 사람을 시련하느니라
As the fining pot for silver , and the furnace for gold ; so is a man to his praise .
22. 미련한 자를 곡물과 함께 절구에 넣고 공이로 찧을지라도 그의 미련은 벗어지지 아니하느니라
Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle , yet will not his foolishness depart from him.
23. 네 양떼의 형편을 부지런히 살피며 네 소떼에 마음을 두라
Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks , and look well to thy herds .
24. 대저 재물은 영영히 있지 못하나니 면류관이 어찌 대대에 있으랴
For riches are not for ever : and doth the crown endure to every generation ?
25. 풀을 벤 후에는 새로 움이 돋나니 산에서 꼴을 거둘 것이니라
The hay appeareth , and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered .
26. 어린 양의 털은 네 옷이 되며 염소는 밭을 사는 값이 되며
The lambs are for thy clothing , and the goats are the price of the field .
27. 염소의 젖은 넉넉하여 너와 네 집 사람의 식물이 되며 네 여종의 먹을 것이 되느니라
And thou shalt have goats’ milk enough for thy food , for the food of thy household , and for the maintenance for thy maidens .

【잠27:1 JFB】잠27:1-27.
1. Do not confide implicitly in your plans (잠16:9; 19:21; 약4:13-15).
【잠27:1 CWC】This division of the book is introduced in the first verse of chapter 25, as the "proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah, king of Judah, copied out." What these words mean it is difficult to say, except in the general sense that the teachers of Hezekiah's period selected and gathered together wise sayings that had been written, or handed down orally in previous generations. They may have been those of Solomon only, and yet his name may be attached to them simply because they were now made part of his general collection. They contain admonitions to the fear of God and righteousness, addressed partly to kings, and yet also to their subjects. They also contain warnings against evil conduct of various kinds, (c. 26); against conceit and arrogance (c. 27); against unlawful dealings, especially of the rich with the poor (c. 28); and against stubbornness and insubordination, (c. 29).
【잠27:1 MHCC】We know not what a day may bring forth. This does not forbid preparing for to-morrow, but presuming upon to-morrow. We must not put off the great work of conversion, that one thing needful.
【잠27:2 JFB】2. Avoid self-praise.
【잠27:2 MHCC】There may be occasion for us to justify ourselves, but not to praise ourselves.
【잠27:3 JFB】3. heavy—The literal sense of "heavy," applied to material subjects, illustrates its figurative, "grievous," applied to moral.
a fool's wrath—is unreasonable and excessive.
【잠27:3 MHCC】Those who have no command of their passions, sink under the load.
【잠27:4 JFB】4. envy—or, "jealousy" (compare Margin;잠6:34), is more unappeasable than the simpler bad passions.
【잠27:5 JFB】5, 6. secret love—not manifested in acts is useless; and even, if its exhibition by rebukes wounds us, such love is preferable to the frequent (compare Margin), and hence deceitful, kisses of an enemy.
【잠27:5 MHCC】Plain and faithful rebukes are better, not only than secret hatred, but than love which compliments in sin, to the hurt of the soul.
【잠27:7 JFB】7. The luxury of wealth confers less happiness than the healthy appetite of labor.
【잠27:7 MHCC】The poor have a better relish of their enjoyments, and are often more thankful for them, than the rich. In like manner the proud and self-sufficient disdain the gospel; but those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, find comfort from the meanest book or sermon that testifies of Christ Jesus.
【잠27:8 JFB】8. Such are not only out of place, but out of duty and in danger.
【잠27:8 MHCC】Every man has his proper place in society, where he may be safe and comfortable.
【잠27:9 JFB】9. rejoice the heart—the organ of perceiving what pleases the senses.
sweetness … counsel—or, "wise counsel is also pleasing."
【잠27:9 MHCC】Depend not for relief upon a kinsman, merely for kindred's sake; apply to those who are at hand, and will help in need. But there is a Friend that sticketh closer than a brother, and let us place entire confidence in him.
【잠27:10 JFB】10. Adhere to tried friends. The ties of blood may be less reliable than those of genuine friendship.
【잠27:11 JFB】11. The wisdom of children both reflects credit on parents and contributes to their aid in difficulties.
【잠27:11 MHCC】An affectionate parent urges his son to prudent conduct that should gladden his heart. The good conduct of Christians is the best answer to all who find fault with the gospel.
【잠27:12 JFB】12, 13. (Compare 잠20:16; 22:3).
【잠27:12 MHCC】Where there is temptation, if we thrust ourselves into it, there will be sin, and punishment will follow.
【잠27:13 MHCC】An honest man may be made a beggar, but he is not honest that makes himself one.
【잠27:14 JFB】14. Excessive zeal in praising raises suspicions of selfishness.
【잠27:14 MHCC】It is folly to be fond of being praised; it is a temptation to pride.
【잠27:15 JFB】15. (Compare 잠19:13).
very … day—literally, "a day of showers."
【잠27:15 MHCC】The contentions of a neighbour may be like a sharp shower, troublesome for a time; the contentions of a wife are like constant rain.
【잠27:16 JFB】16. hideth—or, "restrains" (that is, tries to do it); is as fruitless an effort, as that of holding the wind.
the ointment of his right hand—the organ of power (시17:7; 18:35). His right hand endeavors to repress perfume, but vainly. Some prefer: "His right hand comes on oil," that is, "cannot take hold." Such a woman cannot be tamed.
【잠27:17 JFB】17. a man sharpeneth … friend—that is, conversation promotes intelligence, which the face exhibits.
【잠27:17 MHCC】We are cautioned to take heed whom we converse with. And directed to have in view, in conversation, to make one another wiser and better.
【잠27:18 JFB】18. Diligence secures a reward, even for the humble servant.
【잠27:18 MHCC】Though a calling be laborious and despised, yet those who keep to it, will find there is something to be got by it. God is a Master who has engaged to honour those who serve him faithfully.
【잠27:19 JFB】19. We may see our characters in the developed tempers of others.
【잠27:19 MHCC】One corrupt heart is like another; so are sanctified hearts: the former bear the same image of the earthly, the latter the same image of the heavenly. Let us carefully watch our own hearts, comparing them with the word of God.
【잠27:20 JFB】20. Men's cupidity is as insatiable as the grave.
【잠27:20 MHCC】Two things are here said to be never satisfied, death and sin. The appetites of the carnal mind for profit or pleasure are always desiring more. Those whose eyes are ever toward the Lord, are satisfied in him, and shall for ever be so.
【잠27:21 JFB】21. Praise tests character.
a man to his praise—according to his praise, as he bears it. Thus vain men seek it, weak men are inflated by it, wise men disregard it, &c.
【잠27:21 MHCC】Silver and gold are tried by putting them into the furnace and fining-pot; so is a man tried by praising him.
【잠27:22 JFB】22. The obstinate wickedness of such is incurable by the heaviest inflictions.
【잠27:22 MHCC】Some are so bad, that even severe methods do not answer the end; what remains but that they should be rejected? The new-creating power of God's grace alone is able to make a change.
【잠27:23 JFB】23, 24. flocks—constituted the staple of wealth. It is only by care and diligence that the most solid possessions can be perpetuated (잠23:5).
【잠27:23 MHCC】We ought to have some business to do in this world, and not to live in idleness, and not to meddle with what we do not understand. We must be diligent and take pains. Let us do what we can, still the world cannot be secured to us, therefore we must choose a more lasting portion; but by the blessing of God upon our honest labours, we may expect to enjoy as much of earthly blessings as is good for us.
【잠27:25 JFB】25-27. The fact that providential arrangements furnish the means of competence to those who properly use them is another motive to diligence (compare 시65:9-13).
The hay appeareth—literally, "Grass appeareth" (욥40:15; 시104:14).
