■ 열왕기하 7장
1. 엘리사가 가로되 여호와의 말씀을 들을지어다 여호와께서 가라사대 내일 이맘때에 사마리아 성문에서 고운 가루 한 스아에 한 세겔을 하고 보리 두 스아에 한 세겔을 하리라 하셨느니라
Then Elisha said , Hear ye the word of the Lord ; Thus saith the Lord , To morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel , and two measures of barley for a shekel , in the gate of Samaria .
2. 그 때에 한 장관 곧 왕이 그 손에 의지하는 자가 하나님의 사람에게 대답하여 가로되 여호와께서 하늘에 창을 내신들 어찌 이런 일이 있으리요 엘리사가 가로되 네가 네 눈으로 보리라 그러나 그것을 먹지는 못하리라 하니라
Then a lord on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God , and said , Behold, if the Lord would make windows in heaven , might this thing be? And he said , Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes , but shalt not eat thereof.
3. 성문 어귀에 문둥이 네 사람이 있더니 서로 말하되 우리가 어찌하여 여기 앉아서 죽기를 기다리랴
And there were four leprous men at the entering in of the gate : and they said one to another , Why sit we here until we die ?
4. 우리가 성에 들어가자고 할지라도 성중은 주리니 우리가 거기서 죽을 것이요 여기 앉아 있어도 죽을지라 그런즉 우리가 가서 아람 군대에게 항복하자 저희가 우리를 살려두면 살려니와 우리를 죽이면 죽을 따름이라 하고
If we say , We will enter into the city , then the famine is in the city , and we shall die there: and if we sit still here, we die also. Now therefore come , and let us fall unto the host of the Syrians : if they save us alive , we shall live ; and if they kill us, we shall but die .
5. 아람 진으로 가려하여 황혼에 일어나서 아람 진 가에 이르러 본즉 그 곳에 한 사람도 없으니
And they rose up in the twilight , to go unto the camp of the Syrians : and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of Syria , behold, there was no man there.
6. 이는 주께서 아람 군대로 병거 소리와 말 소리와 큰 군대의 소리를 듣게 하셨으므로 아람 사람이 서로 말하기를 이스라엘 왕이 우리를 치려하여 헷 사람의 왕들과 애굽 왕들에게 값을 주고 저희로 우리에게 오게 하였다 하고
For the Lord had made the host of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots , and a noise of horses , even the noise of a great host : and they said one to another , Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites , and the kings of the Egyptians , to come upon us.
7. 황혼에 일어나서 도망하되 그 장막과 말과 나귀를 버리고 진을 그대로 두고 목숨을 위하여 도망하였음이라
Wherefore they arose and fled in the twilight , and left their tents , and their horses , and their asses , even the camp as it was, and fled for their life .

8. 그 문둥이들이 진 가에 이르자 한 장막에 들어가서 먹고 마시고 거기서 은과 금과 의복을 가지고 가서 감추고 다시 와서 다른 장막에 들어가서 거기서도 가지고 가서 감추니라
And when these lepers came to the uttermost part of the camp , they went into one tent , and did eat and drink , and carried thence silver , and gold , and raiment , and went and hid it; and came again , and entered into another tent , and carried thence also, and went and hid it.
9. 문둥이가 서로 말하되 우리의 소위가 선치 못하도다 오늘날은 아름다운 소식이 있는 날이어늘 우리가 잠잠하고 있도다 만일 밝은 아침까지 기다리면 벌이 우리에게 미칠지니 이제 떠나 왕궁에 가서 고하자 하고
Then they said one to another , We do not well: this day is a day of good tidings , and we hold our peace : if we tarry till the morning light , some mischief will come upon us: now therefore come , that we may go and tell the king’s household .
10. 드디어 가서 성 문지기를 불러 고하여 가로되 우리가 아람 진에 이르러 보니 거기 한 사람도 없고 사람의 소리도 없고 오직 말과 나귀만 매여 있고 장막들이 그대로 있더이다
So they came and called unto the porter of the city : and they told them, saying , We came to the camp of the Syrians , and, behold, there was no man there, neither voice of man , but horses tied , and asses tied , and the tents as they were.
11. 저가 문지기들을 부르매 저희가 왕궁에 있는 자에게 고하니
And he called the porters ; and they told it to the king’s house within .
12. 왕이 밤에 일어나 그 신복들에게 이르되 아람 사람이 우리에게 행한 것을 내가 너희에게 알게 하노니 저희가 우리의 주린 것을 아는고로 그 진을 떠나서 들에 매복하고 스스로 이르기를 저희들이 성에서 나오거든 우리가 사로잡고 성에 들어가겠다 한 것이니라
And the king arose in the night , and said unto his servants , I will now shew you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we be hungry ; therefore are they gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field , saying , When they come out of the city , we shall catch them alive , and get into the city .
13. 그 신복 중 하나가 대답하여 가로되 청컨대 아직 성중에 남아 있는 말 다섯 필을 취하고 사람을 보내어 정탐하게 하소서 이 말들이 성중에 남아있는 이스라엘 온 무리 곧 멸망한 이스라엘 온 무리와 같으니이다 하고
And one of his servants answered and said , Let some take , I pray thee, five of the horses that remain , which are left in the city, (behold, they are as all the multitude of Israel that are left in it: behold, I say, they are even as all the multitude of the Israelites that are consumed :) and let us send and see .
14. 저희가 병거 둘과 그 말을 취한지라 왕이 아람 군대 뒤로 보내며 가서 정탐하라 하였더니
They took therefore two chariot horses ; and the king sent after the host of the Syrians , saying , Go and see .
15. 저희가 그 뒤를 따라 요단에 이른즉 아람 사람이 급히 도망하느라고 버린 의복과 군물이 길에 가득하였더라 사자가 돌아와서 왕에게 고하매
And they went after them unto Jordan : and, lo, all the way was full of garments and vessels , which the Syrians had cast away in their haste . And the messengers returned , and told the king .
16. 백성들이 나가서 아람 사람의 진을 노략한지라 이에 고운 가루 한 스아에 한 세겔이 되고 보리 두 스아에 한 세겔이 되니 여호와의 말씀과 같이 되었고
And the people went out , and spoiled the tents of the Syrians . So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel , and two measures of barley for a shekel , according to the word of the Lord .
17. 왕이 그 손에 의지하였던 그 장관을 세워 성문을 지키게 하였더니 백성이 성문에서 저를 밟으매 하나님의 사람의 말대로 죽었으니 곧 왕이 내려왔을 때에 그의 한 말대로라
And the king appointed the lord on whose hand he leaned to have the charge of the gate : and the people trode upon him in the gate , and he died , as the man of God had said , who spake when the king came down to him.
18. 일찍이 하나님의 사람이 왕에게 고하여 이르기를 내일 이맘때에 사마리아 성문에서 보리 두 스아에 한 세겔을 하고 고운 가루 한 스아에 한 세겔을 하리라 한즉
And it came to pass as the man of God had spoken to the king , saying , Two measures of barley for a shekel , and a measure of fine flour for a shekel , shall be to morrow about this time in the gate of Samaria :
19. 그 때에 이 장관이 하나님의 사람에게 대답하여 가로되 여호와께서 하늘에 창을 내신들 어찌 이 일이 있으랴 하매 대답하기를 네가 네 눈으로 보리라 그러나 그것을 먹지는 못하리라 하였더니
And that lord answered the man of God , and said , Now, behold, if the Lord should make windows in heaven , might such a thing be? And he said , Behold, thou shalt see it with thine eyes , but shalt not eat thereof.
20. 그 장관에게 그대로 이루었으되 곧 백성이 성문에서 저를 밟으매 죽었더라
And so it fell out unto him: for the people trode upon him in the gate , and he died .

【왕하7:1 JFB】왕하7:1-16. Elisha Prophesies Incredible Plenty in Samaria.
1. Hear ye the word of the Lord—This prediction, though uttered first to the assembled elders, was intimated to the king's messengers, who reported it to Jehoram (왕하7:18).
To-morrow about this time shall a measure of fine flour be sold for a shekel, &c.—This may be estimated at a peck of fine flour for 2s. 6d., and two pecks of barley at the same price.
in the gate of Samaria—Vegetables, cattle, all sorts of country produce, are still sold every morning at the gates of towns in the East.
【왕하7:1 CWC】[ELISHA AND THE SYRIAN INVASION]
1. The Stratagem at Dothan, 6:8-23.
The incident in verses 1 to 7 seems an interpolation; and some think it belongs at chapter 4:38 in connection with the two miracles, having a somewhat similar occasion. "Swim" (v. 6") is in the Hebrew the same as "float, ' and the idea seems to be that by throwing the stick into the water the iron was caused to come to the surface where the young man could get it.
It is difficult to say when the event of verse 8 occurred, but it is assumed in the reign of Jehoram, with which we have been dealing since Elisha's ministry began. At a time when the Syrians were intending to encamp at a particular spot, and attack the Israelites as they passed by, the prophet gave warning to Jehoram, which enabled the latter to station troops in the threatened position and frustrate their plans (vv. 8-10). This disconcerted the Syrian king, and, learning the truth of the matter, he tried to get hold of Elisha (vv. 11-14).
The "servant" of verse 15, is not Gehazi. To "open the eyes" (v. 17) meant to give that soul-vision which the bodily members can never behold. The "horses and chariots of fire" were the symbols of Jehovah's presence and might. "Blindness" (v. 18) is not absolute loss of sight, but an inability to recognize the prophet.
Elisha's words (v. 19) are not an untruth, as his real residence was Samaria; and in the end he led them to himself, not to harm them, but repay evil with good (vv. 21-23). His inquiry of the king (v. 22) presents difficulty, but probably means "could'st thou be justified in slaying with sword and bow these whom thou hast taken captive?" (See 신20:10-13.)
2. The Famine in Samaria, 6:24-7:20.
An interval of some time must be considered since the close of verse 23. The famine caused by the siege was intense as gathered by the price paid for the meanest food (v. 25). "Dove's dung" is understood by some as an insignificant species of pease resembling it.
The king's putting the blame on the prophet (vv. 30, 31) recalls what episode in Elijah's time? Had Elisha advised against the surrender of the city, or did the king think he might have put an end to the distress in some other way? Verse 33 suggests that the king, who had doubtless followed his messengers, had repented of his threat against Elisha, but nevertheless had lost hope in Jehovah.
This brings forth the new promise of 8:1, 2. The remainder of the chapter presents no difficulties, but we should note the fulfilled prediction in verses 19 and 20.
3. The End of Ben-hadad's Reign, 8:1-15.
The event referred to (vv. 1-6) doubtless took place sometime before this, as the records of Elisha's ministry are not arranged chronologically. Compa계4:38 for the period. Gehazi's appearance (vv. 4, 5) further strengthens the thought that it was before his offence and punishment by leprosy.
The event that follows is tragical indeed (vv. 7-15). Hazael, though not related to Ben-hadad, had been the divine choice as his successor (왕상19:15). When Elisha says the king may recover, yet he shall surely die, he is telling the exact truth, as verse 15 portrays. Had Hazael not murdered him he would have lived. It was Elisha who looked at Hazael until the latter was ashamed, as he might well have been (v. 11).
【왕하7:1 MHCC】Man's extremity is God's opportunity of making his own power to be glorious: his time to appear for his people is when their strength is gone. Unbelief is a sin by which men greatly dishonour and displease God, and deprive themselves of the favours he designed for them. Such will be the portion of those that believe not the promise of eternal life; they shall see it at a distance, but shall never taste of it. But no temporal deliverances and mercies will in the end profit sinners, unless they are led to repentance by the goodness of God.
【왕하7:2 JFB】2. a lord on whose hand the king leaned—When an Eastern king walks or stands abroad in the open air, he always supports himself on the arm of the highest courtier present.
if the Lord would make windows in heaven—The scoffing infidelity of this remark, which was a sneer against not the prophet only, but the God he served, was justly and signally punished (see 왕하7:20).
【왕하7:3 JFB】3. there were four leprous men—The account of the sudden raising of the siege and the unexpected supply given to the famishing inhabitants of Samaria, is introduced by a narrative of the visit and discovery, by these poor creatures, of the extraordinary flight of the Syrians.

【왕하7:3 MHCC】God can, when he pleases, make the stoutest heart to tremble; and as for those who will not fear God, he can make them fear at the shaking of a leaf. Providence ordered it, that the lepers came as soon as the Syrians were fled. Their consciences told them that mischief would befall them, if they took care of themselves only. Natural humanity, and fear of punishment, are powerful checks on the selfishness of the ungodly. These feelings tend to preserve order and kindness in the world; but they who have found the unsearchable riches of Christ, will not long delay to report the good tidings to others. From love to him, not from selfish feelings, they will gladly share their earthly good things with their brethren.

【왕하7:8 JFB】8-11. these lepers … did eat and drink—After they had appeased their hunger and secreted as many valuables as they could carry, their consciences smote them for concealing the discovery and they hastened to publish it in the city.
【왕하7:10 JFB】10. horses tied, and asses tied, and the tents as they were—The uniform arrangement of encampments in the East is to place the tents in the center, while the cattle are picketed all around, as an outer wall of defense; and hence the lepers describe the cattle as the first objects they saw.
【왕하7:12 JFB】12-15. the king … said unto his servants, I will now show you what the Syrians have done—Similar stratagems have been so often resorted to in the ancient and modern wars of the East that there is no wonder Jehoram's suspicions were awakened. But the scouts, whom he despatched, soon found unmistakable signs of the panic that had struck the enemy and led to a most precipitate flight.
【왕하7:12 MHCC】Here see the wants of Israel supplied in a way they little thought of, which should encourage us to depend upon the power and goodness of God in our greatest straits. God's promise may be safely relied on, for no word of his shall fall to the ground. The nobleman that questioned the truth of Elisha's word, saw the plenty, to silence and shame his unbelief, and therein saw his own folly; but he did not eat of the plenty he saw. Justly do those find the world's promises fail them, who think that the promises of God will disappoint them. Learn how deeply God resents distrust of his power, providence, and promise: how uncertain life is, and the enjoyments of it: how certain God's threatenings are, and how sure to come on the guilty. May God help us to inquire whether we are exposed to his threatenings, or interested in his promises.

17. the king appointed the lord on whose hand he leaned,—&c. The news spread like lightning through the city, and was followed, as was natural, by a popular rush to the Syrian camp. To keep order at the gate, the king ordered his minister to keep guard; but the impetuosity of the famishing people could not be resisted. The lord was trodden to death, and Elisha's prophecy in all respects accomplished.
