■ 시편 37장

1. 다윗의 시 행악자를 인하여 불평하여 하지 말며 불의를 행하는 자를 투기하지 말지어다

  A Psalm of David . Fret not thyself because of evildoers , neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity .

 

2. 저희는 풀과 같이 속히 베임을 볼 것이며 푸른 채소 같이 쇠잔할 것임이로다

  For they shall soon be cut down like the grass , and wither as the green herb .

 

3. 여호와를 의뢰하여 선을 행하라 땅에 거하여 그의 성실로 식물을 삼을지어다

  Trust in the Lord , and do good ; so shalt thou dwell in the land , and verily thou shalt be fed .

 

4. 또 여호와를 기뻐하라 저가 네 마음의 소원을 이루어 주시리로다

  Delight thyself also in the Lord ; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart .

 

5. 너의 길을 여호와께 맡기라 저를 의지하면 저가 이루시고

  Commit thy way unto the Lord ; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass .

 

6. 네 의를 빛 같이 나타내시며 네 공의를 정오의 빛 같이 하시리로다

  And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light , and thy judgment as the noonday .

 

7. 여호와 앞에 잠잠하고 참아 기다리라 자기 길이 형통하며 악한 꾀를 이루는 자를 인하여 불평하여 말지어다

  Rest in the Lord , and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way , because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass .

 

8. 분을 그치고 노를 버리라 불평하여 말라 행악에 치우칠 뿐이라

  Cease from anger , and forsake wrath : fret not thyself in any wise to do evil .

 

9. 대저 행악하는 자는 끊어질 것이나 여호와를 기대하는 자는 땅을 차지하리로다

  For evildoers shall be cut off : but those that wait upon the Lord , they shall inherit the earth .

 

10. 잠시 후에 악인이 없어지리니 네가 그곳을 자세히 살필지라도 없으리로다

  For yet a little while , and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place , and it shall not be.

 

11. 오직 온유한 자는 땅을 차지하며 풍부한 화평으로 즐기리로다

  But the meek shall inherit the earth ; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace .

 

12. 악인이 의인 치기를 꾀하고 향하여 그 이를 가는도다

  The wicked plotteth against the just , and gnasheth upon him with his teeth .

 

13. 주께서 저를 웃으시리니 그 날의 이름을 보심이로다

  The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming .

 

14. 악인이 칼을 빼고 활을 당기어 가난하고 궁핍한 자를 엎드러뜨리며 행위가 정직한 자를 죽이고자 하나

  The wicked have drawn out the sword , and have bent their bow , to cast down the poor and needy , and to slay such as be of upright conversation .

 

15. 그 칼은 자기의 마음을 찌르고 그 활은 부러지리로다

  Their sword shall enter into their own heart , and their bows shall be broken .

 

16. 의인의 적은 소유가 많은 악인의 풍부함보다 승하도다

  A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked .

 

17. 악인의 팔은 부러지나 의인은 여호와께서 붙드시는도다

  For the arms of the wicked shall be broken : but the Lord upholdeth the righteous .

 

18. 여호와께서 완전한 자의 날을 아시니 저희 기업은 영원하리로다

  The Lord knoweth the days of the upright : and their inheritance shall be for ever .

 

19. 저희는 환난 때에 부끄럽지 아니하며 기근의 날에도 풍족하려니와

  They shall not be ashamed in the evil time : and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied .

 

20. 악인은 멸망하고 여호와의 원수는 어린 양의 기름 같이 타서 연기 되어 없어지리로다

  But the wicked shall perish , and the enemies of the Lord shall be as the fat of lambs : they shall consume ; into smoke shall they consume away .

 

21. 악인은 꾸고 갚지 아니하나 의인은 은혜를 베풀고 주는도다

  The wicked borroweth , and payeth not again : but the righteous sheweth mercy , and giveth .

 

22. 주의 복을 받은 자는 땅을 차지하고 주의 저주를 받은 자는 끊어지리로다

  For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth ; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off .

 

23. 여호와께서 사람의 걸음을 정하시고 그 길을 기뻐하시나니

  The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord : and he delighteth in his way .

 

24. 저는 넘어지나 아주 엎드러지지 아니함은 여호와께서 손으로 붙드심이로다

  Though he fall , he shall not be utterly cast down : for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand .

 

25. 내가 어려서부터 늙기까지 의인이 버림을 당하거나 그 자손이 걸식함을 보지 못하였도다

  I have been young , and now am old ; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken , nor his seed begging bread .

 

26. 저는 종일토록 은혜를 베풀고 꾸어 주니 그 자손이 복을 받는도다

  He is ever merciful , and lendeth ; and his seed is blessed .

 

27. 악에서 떠나 선을 행하라 그리하면 영영히 거하리니

  Depart from evil , and do good ; and dwell for evermore .

 

28. 여호와께서 공의를 사랑하시고 그 성도를 버리지 아니하심이로다 저희는 영영히 보호를 받으나 악인의 자손은 끊어지리로다

  For the Lord loveth judgment , and forsaketh not his saints ; they are preserved for ever : but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off .

 

29. 의인이 땅을 차지함이여 거기 영영히 거하리로다

  The righteous shall inherit the land , and dwell therein for ever .

 

30. 의인의 입은 지혜를 말하고 그 혀는 공의를 이르며

  The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom , and his tongue talketh of judgment .

 

31. 그 마음에는 하나님의 법이 있으니 그 걸음에 실족함이 없으리로다

  The law of his God is in his heart ; none of his steps shall slide .

 

32. 악인이 의인을 엿보아 살해할 기회를 찾으나

  The wicked watcheth the righteous , and seeketh to slay him.

 

33. 여호와는 저를 그 손에 버려두지 아니하시고 재판 때에도 정죄치 아니하시리로다

  The Lord will not leave him in his hand , nor condemn him when he is judged .

 

34. 여호와를 바라고 그 도를 지키라 그리하면 너를 들어 땅을 차지하게 하실 것이라 악인이 끊어질 때에 네가 목도하리로다

  Wait on the Lord , and keep his way , and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land : when the wicked are cut off , thou shalt see it.

 

35. 내가 악인의 큰 세력을 본즉 그 본토에 선 푸른 나무의 무성함 같으나

  I have seen the wicked in great power , and spreading himself like a green bay tree .

 

36. 사람이 지날 때에 저가 없어졌으니 내가 찾아도 발견치 못하였도다

  Yet he passed away , and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found .

 

37. 완전한 사람을 살피고 정직한 자를 볼지어다 화평한 자의 결국은 평안이로다

  Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright : for the end of that man is peace .

 

38. 범죄자들은 함께 멸망하리니 악인의 결국은 끊어질 것이나

  But the transgressors shall be destroyed together : the end of the wicked shall be cut off .

 

39. 의인의 구원은 여호와께 있으니 그는 환난 때에 저희 산성이시로다

  But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord : he is their strength in the time of trouble .

 

40. 여호와께서 저희를 도와 건지시되 악인에게서 건져 구원하심은 그를 의지한 연고로다

  And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked , and save them, because they trust in him.

【시37:1 JFB】시37:1-40. A composed and uniform trust in God and a constant course of integrity are urged in view of the blessedness of the truly pious, contrasted in various aspects with the final ruin of the wicked. Thus the wisdom and justice of God's providence are vindicated, and its seeming inequalities, which excite the cavils of the wicked and the distrust of the pious, are explained. David's personal history abundantly illustrates the Psalm.
1, 2. The general sentiment of the whole Psalm is expressed. The righteous need not be vexed by the prosperity of the wicked; for it is transient, and their destiny undesirable.

 

【시37:1 CWC】Psalm 25.
In the Hebrew this prayer is arranged as an acrostic, i. e., the first word of each verse begins with a letter in alphabetical order from A to Z.
Hereafter we shall not give as much attention to every Psalm as we have thus far, but trust the reader to do the analyzing after the examples given.
The purpose of the Commentary is not so much textual explanation as a stimulus to Bible study in a broader sense, and it is assumed that the reader has been studying the Bible side by side with the Commentary from the beginning.
The more difficult Psalms, some of the more familiar and popular, and those distinctively Messianic and millennial may be treated more at length, but others must be passed over.
In the present instance the prayer is for defence (vv. 1-3), guidance (vv. 4, 5), forgiveness (vv. 6-11), etc., intermingled with testimony to the divine goodness (vv. 12-15).
Psalm 26.
Is another appeal to God on the basis of avowed integrity and innocence of the charges of enemies. Note the features of righteous character of which the psalmist speaks, as well as the description of his enemies. The Modern Reader's Bible names this Psalm, "Searchings of heart before worship."
Psalm 27.
Is called by the volume named above "An Anthem of Deliverance," and throughout it exhibits confidence, hope and joy, in God's worship, with prayer for help and guidance in danger. The secret of the psalmist's confidence is given in verse four as his delight in divine fellowship expressed in worshiping in God's tabernacle. God will protect and deliver him (vv. 5, 6). He will be more to him than earthly parents (v. 10). All he craves is guidance (v. 11). He concludes with counsel to others in a like case (vv. 13, 14).
Psalm 29.
"The Song of the Thunderstorm," encourages confidence in God by the celebration of His power in His dominion over the natural world. "Discovereth the forests" (v. 9) means "stripping them bare." In the midst of this sublimity God's worshipers cry, "Glory!" (R. V.)
Psalm 30.
States its occasion in the title, the reference being to David's own house or palace (compare 신20:5); 삼하5:11; 7:2).
Psalm 31.
Is a cry of one in distress, which some have referred to as the period of David's persecution by Saul at Keilah. Read 삼상23:1-15, and then note in the Psalm, verses 4, 8, 10-15, 20-22.
Psalm 32.
Reads like "David's Spiritual Biography." It is thought to have been written after his sin with Bath-sheba (2 Sam. 11, 12). He has been brought to repentance for that sin and forgiven (Psalm 51), and now is praising God for that forgiveness, and telling what led up to it. It opens with a general declaration of his blessedness and why (vv. 1, 2). This is followed by his experience before forgiveness and when he was undergoing conviction of sin (vv. 3, 4). Confession brought forgiveness (v. 5). Let others act similarly in the same circumstances (v. 6). See what God is to him now (v. 7). The Psalm takes the form of a dialogue at this point, and God speaks at verses eight and nine, which should be read in the Revised Version. The whole concludes with a warning and exhortation (vv. 10, 11).
Psalm 33.
Is one of praise. It opens with a general chorus (vv. 1-3). This is followed by a semi-chorus (vv. 4-11), a second semi-chorus (vv. 12-19), and a final chorus (vv. 20-22). To follow this division suggested by the Modern Reader's Bible, is to obtain a good idea of the several subjects.
Psalm 34.
Has its occasion indicated in the title which refers to 삼상21:13. The name there is Achish, but some think Abimelech was the general name given the sovereigns of Gath at that time (창20:2). This is also an acrostic, and from a musical point of view consists of an introduction (vv. 1, 2), solos and choruses. For one solo, see verses 3-6, and for another 11-14.
Psalm 35.
May be read in connection with 1 Samuel 24, which some regard as its occasion. A comparison of that chapter will throw light on the meaning of several of its expressions.
Psalm 37.
Is one of the most popular of the Psalms of trust and confidence, whose contents are illustrated in David's personal history. It is an acrostic, which requires little in the way of explanation to any heart who really knows God through Jesus Christ. The theme is the prosperity of the wicked with counsel as to how the child of God should act in regard to it.

 

【시37:1 MHCC】When we look abroad we see the world full of evil-doers, that flourish and live in ease. So it was seen of old, therefore let us not marvel at the matter. We are tempted to fret at this, to think them the only happy people, and so we are prone to do like them: but this we are warned against. Outward prosperity is fading. When we look forward, with an eye of faith, we shall see no reason to envy the wicked. Their weeping and wailing will be everlasting. The life of religion is a believing trust in the Lord, and diligent care to serve him according to his will. It is not trusting God, but tempting him, if we do not make conscience of our duty to him. A man's life consists not in abundance, but, Thou shalt have food convenient for thee. This is more than we deserve, and it is enough for one that is going to heaven. To delight in God is as much a privilege as a duty. He has not promised to gratify the appetites of the body, and the humours of the fancy, but the desires of the renewed, sanctified soul. What is the desire of the heart of a good man? It is this, to know, and love, and serve God. Commit thy way unto the Lord; roll thy way upon the Lord, so the margin reads it. Cast thy burden upon the Lord, the burden of thy care. We must roll it off ourselves, not afflict and perplex ourselves with thoughts about future events, but refer them to God. By prayer spread thy case and all thy cares before the Lord, and trust in him. We must do our duty, and then leave the event with God. The promise is very sweet: He shall bring that to pass, whatever it is, which thou has committed to him.

trust … in him—literally, "on Him." He will do what you cannot (compare 시22:8; 31:6). He will not suffer your character to remain under suspicion.

 

【시37:7 JFB】7, 8. Rest in—literally, "Be silent to the Lord."
and wait—Be submissive—avoid petulance and murmurings, anger and rash doing.

 

【시37:7 MHCC】Let us be satisfied that God will make all to work for good to us. Let us not discompose ourselves at what we see in this world. A fretful, discontented spirit is open to many temptations. For, in all respects, the little which is allotted to the righteous, is more comfortable and more profitable than the ill-gotten and abused riches of ungodly men. It comes from a hand of special love. God provides plentifully and well, not only for his working servants, but for his waiting servants. They have that which is better than wealth, peace of mind, peace with God, and then peace in God; that peace which the world cannot give, and which the world cannot have. God knows the believer's days. Not one day's work shall go unrewarded. Their time on earth is reckoned by days, which will soon be numbered; but heavenly happiness shall be for ever. This will be a real support to believers in evil times. Those that rest on the Rock of ages, have no reason to envy the wicked the support of their broken reeds.

【시37:17 JFB】17. Even the members of the body needed to hold weapons are destroyed.

 

【시37:18 JFB】18, 19. God, who knows His people's changes, provides against evil and supplies all their need.

 

【시37:20 JFB】20. While the wicked, however mighty, are destroyed, and that utterly, as smoke which vanishes and leaves no trace.

 

【시37:21 JFB】21, 22. payeth not—not able; having grown poor (compare 신15:7). Ability of the one and inability of the other do not exclude moral dispositions. God's blessing or cursing makes the difference.

 

【시37:21 MHCC】The Lord our God requires that we do justly, and render to all their due. It is a great sin for those that are able, to deny the payment of just debts; it is a great misery not to be able to pay them. He that is truly merciful, will be ever merciful. We must leave our sins; learn to do well, and cleave to it. This is true religion. The blessing of God is the spring, sweetness, and security of all earthly enjoyments. And if we are sure of this, we are sure not to want any thing good for us in this world. By his grace and Holy Spirit, he directs the thoughts, affections, and designs of good men. By his providence he overrules events, so as to make their way plain. He does not always show them his way for a distance, but leads them step by step, as children are led. God will keep them from being ruined by their falls, either into sin or into trouble, though such as fall into sin will be sorely hurt. Few, if any, have known the consistent believer, or his children, reduced to abject, friendless want. God forsakes not his saints in affliction; and in heaven only the righteous shall dwell for ever; that will be their everlasting habitation. A good man may fall into the hands of a messenger of Satan, and be sorely buffeted, but God will not leave him in his enemy's hands.

【시37:34 MHCC】Duty is ours, and we must mind it; but events are God's, we must refer the disposal of them to him. What a striking picture is in ver. #(35, 36), of many a prosperous enemy of God! But God remarkably blights the projects of the prosperous wicked, especially persecutors. None are perfect in themselves, but believers are so in Christ Jesus. If all the saint's days continue dark and cloudy, his dying day may prove comfortable, and his sun set bright; or, if it should set under a cloud, yet his future state will be everlasting peace. The salvation of the righteous will be the Lord's doing. He will help them to do their duties, to bear their burdens; help them to bear their troubles well, and get good by them, and, in due time, will deliver them out of their troubles. Let sinners then depart from evil, and do good; repent of and forsake sin, and trust in the mercy of God through Jesus Christ. Let them take his yoke upon them, and learn of him, that they may dwell for evermore in heaven. Let us mark the closing scenes of different characters, and always depend on God's mercy.
