■ 시편 118장

1. 여호와께 감사하라 저는 선하시며 그 인자하심이 영원함이로다

  O give thanks unto the Lord ; for he is good : because his mercy endureth for ever .

  The Lord is on my side; I will not fear : what can man do unto me?

 

7. 여호와께서 내 편이 되사 나를 돕는 자 중에 계시니 그러므로 나를 미워하는 자에게 보응하시는 것을 내가 보리로다

  The Lord taketh my part with them that help me: therefore shall I see my desire upon them that hate me.

 

8. 여호와께 피함이 사람을 신뢰함보다 나으며

  It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man .

 

9. 여호와께 피함이 방백들을 신뢰함보다 낫도다

  It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes .

 

10. 열방이 나를 에워쌌으니 내가 여호와의 이름으로 저희를 끊으리로다

  All nations compassed me about : but in the name of the Lord will I destroy them.

 

11. 저희가 나를 에워싸고 에워쌌으니 내가 여호와의 이름으로 저희를 끊으리로다

  They compassed me about ; yea, they compassed me about : but in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

 

12. 저희가 벌과 같이 나를 에워쌌으나 가시덤불의 불 같이 소멸되었나니 내가 여호와의 이름으로 저희를 끊으리로다

  They compassed me about like bees ; they are quenched as the fire of thorns : for in the name of the Lord I will destroy them.

 

13. 네가 나를 밀쳐 넘어뜨리려 하였으나 여호와께서 나를 도우셨도다

  Thou hast thrust sore at me that I might fall : but the Lord helped me.

 

14. 여호와는 나의 능력과 찬송이시요 또 나의 구원이 되셨도다

  The Lord is my strength and song , and is become my salvation .

 

15. 의인의 장막에 기쁜 소리, 구원의 소리가 있음이여 여호와의 오른손이 권능을 베푸시며

  The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tabernacles of the righteous : the right hand of the Lord doeth valiantly .

 

16. 여호와의 오른손이 높이 들렸으며 여호와의 오른손이 권능을 베푸시는도다

  The right hand of the Lord is exalted : the right hand of the Lord doeth valiantly .

 

17. 내가 죽지 않고 살아서 여호와의 행사를 선포하리로다

  I shall not die , but live , and declare the works of the Lord .

 

18. 여호와께서 나를 심히 경책하셨어도 죽음에는 붙이지 아니하셨도다

  The Lord hath chastened me sore : but he hath not given me over unto death .

 

19. 내게 의의 문을 열지어다 내가 들어가서 여호와께 감사하리로다

  Open to me the gates of righteousness : I will go into them, and I will praise the Lord :

 

20. 이는 여호와의 문이라 의인이 그리로 들어가리로다

  This gate of the Lord , into which the righteous shall enter .

 

21. 주께서 내게 응답하시고 나의 구원이 되셨으니 내가 주께 감사하리이다

  I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation .

 

22. 건축자의 버린 돌이 집 모퉁이의 머릿돌이 되었나니

  The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner .

 

23. 이는 여호와의 행하신 것이요 우리 눈에 기이한 바로다

  This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvellous in our eyes .

 

24. 이 날은 여호와의 정하신 것이라 이 날에 우리가 즐거워하고 기뻐하리로다

  This is the day which the Lord hath made ; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

 

25. 여호와여 구하옵나니 이제 구원하소서 여호와여 우리가 구하옵나니 이제 형통케 하소서

  Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord : O Lord , I beseech thee, send now prosperity .

 

26. 여호와의 이름으로 오는 자가 복이 있음이여 우리가 여호와의 집에서 너희를 축복하였도다

  Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord : we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord .

 

27. 여호와는 하나님이시라 우리에게 비취셨으니 줄로 희생을 제단 뿔에 맬지어다

  God is the Lord , which hath shewed us light : bind the sacrifice with cords , even unto the horns of the altar .

 

28. 주는 나의 하나님이시라 내가 주께 감사하리이다 주는 나의 하나님이시라 내가 주를 높이리이다

  Thou art my God , and I will praise thee: thou art my God , I will exalt thee.

 

29. 여호와께 감사하라 그는 선하시며 그 인자하심이 영원함이로다

【시118:1 JFB】시118:1-29. After invoking others to unite in praise, the writer celebrates God's protecting and delivering care towards him, and then represents himself and the people of God as entering the sanctuary and uniting in solemn praise, with prayer for a continued blessing. Whether composed by David on his accession to power, or by some later writer in memory of the restoration from Babylon, its tone is joyful and trusting, and, in describing the fortune and destiny of the Jewish Church and its visible head, it is typically prophetical of the Christian Church and her greater and invisible Head.
1-4. The trine repetitions are emphatic (compare 시118:10-12, 15, 16; 115:12, 13).
Let … say—Oh! that Israel may say.
now—as in 시115:2; so in 시118:3, 4. After "now say" supply "give thanks."
that his mercy—or, "for His mercy."

 

【시118:1 CWC】The first psalm in this lesson is one of the imprecatory or cursing psalms, in the interpretation of which we should keep in mind the principles already stated, (1) that the writer speaks as a prophet; (2), that the enemies are not merely personal to him but enemies of God; (3), that they are not individuals so much as nations; and (4), that they are considered at a time when the incorrigible condition has been reached, and they have become permanently fixed in opposition to the Most High. The allusion to Judas (v. 8), suggests a symbolical character for the whole, and it would not be difficult to discover under the surface the lineaments of the Antichrist.
Psalm 110.
"The explicit application of this psalm to the Saviour, by Himself (마22:42-45), and by the apostles (행2:34; 고전15:25; 히1:13), and their frequent reference to its language and purport (엡1:20-22; 빌2:9-11; 히10:12, 13), leaves no doubt of its prophetic character.
"Not only was there nothing in the position or character of David to justify a reference to either, but the utter severance from the royal office of all priestly functions (so clearly assigned the subject of this psalm) positively forbids such a reference.
"The psalm celebrates the exaltation of Christ to the throne of an eternal and increasing kingdom, and a perpetual priesthood (슥6:13), involving the subjugation of His enemies and the multiplication of His subjects, and rendered infallibly certain by the word and oath of Almighty God." [Jamieson, Faussett and Brown.]
Psalms 111, 112.
Are frequently interpreted together, the first celebrating God's gracious dealings with His people, and the second carrying on the thought as an exposition of its last verse. Using that verse as a text, the whole of Psalm 112 becomes illuminative of it.
Psalms 113-118.
Of these psalms it may be said that the Jews used them on their great festivals, calling them the Greater Hallel, which means hymn. They contrast God's majesty with His condescension (113), they celebrate His former care of His people (114), they beseech Him to vindicate His glory over the vanity of idols (115), they praise Him for deliverance from peril (116), etc.
The last-named (116), is a particularly beautiful psalm, noting three distinct experiences of the Psalmist: love (vv. 1-6); rest (vv. 7-11) and gratitude (vv. 12-19). Love because God heard him, rest even when men are false to him, and gratitude expressed both with the lips and life.
Psalm 119.
Has several peculiarities. "It is divided into twenty-two parts, or stanzas, denoted by the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Each stanza contains eight verses, and the first letter of each verse gives name to the stanza.
Its contents are mainly praises of God's word, exhortation of its perusal, and reverence for it; prayers for its proper influence, and complaints of the wicked despising it. There are but two verses (vv. 122, 132) which do not contain some term or description of God's word. These terms are of various derivations, but used, for the most part, synonymously, though the variety seems designed to express better the several aspects in which our relations to the Word are presented.
The psalm does not appear to have relation to any special occasion of the Jewish nation, but was evidently "intended as a manual of pious thoughts, especially for instructing the young, and its artificial structure was probably to aid the memory." [Jamieson, Faussett and Brown.]

 

【시118:1 MHCC】The account the psalmist here gives of his troubles is very applicable to Christ: many hated him without a cause; nay, the Lord himself chastened him sorely, bruised him, and put him to grief, that by his stripes we might be healed. God is sometimes the strength of his people, when he is not their song; they have spiritual supports, though they want spiritual delights. Whether the believer traces back his comfort to the everlasting goodness and mercy of God, or whether he looks forward to the blessing secured to him, he will find abundant cause for joy and praise. Every answer to our prayers is an evidence that the Lord is on our side; and then we need not fear what man can do unto us; we should conscientiously do our duty to all, and trust in him alone to accept and bless us. Let us seek to live to declare the works of God, and to encourage others to serve him and trust in him. Such were the triumphs of the Son of David, in the assurance that the good pleasure of the Lord should prosper in his hand.

【시118:19 MHCC】Those who saw Christ's day at so great a distance, saw cause to praise God for the prospect. The prophecy, ver. #(22, 23), may refer to David's preferment; but principally to Christ. 1. His humiliation; he is the Stone which the builders refused: they would go on in their building without him. This proved the ruin of those who thus made light of him. Rejecters of Christ are rejected of God. 2. His exaltation; he is the chief Cornerstone in the foundation. He is the chief Top-stone, in whom the building is completed, who must, in all things, have the pre-eminence. Christ's name is Wonderful; and the redemption he wrought out is the most amazing of all God's wondrous works. We will rejoice and be glad in the Lord's day; not only that such a day is appointed, but in the occasion of it, Christ's becoming the Head. Sabbath days ought to be rejoicing days, then they are to us as the days of heaven. Let this Saviour be my Saviour, my Ruler. Let my soul prosper and be in health, in that peace and righteousness which his government brings. Let me have victory over the lusts that war against my soul; and let Divine grace subdue my heart. The duty which the Lord has made, brings light with it, true light. The duty this privilege calls for, is here set forth; the sacrifices we are to offer to God in gratitude for redeeming love, are ourselves; not to be slain upon the altar, but living sacrifices, to be bound to the altar; spiritual sacrifices of prayer and praise, in which our hearts must be engaged. The psalmist praises God, and calls upon all about him to give thanks to God for the glad tidings of great joy to all people, that there is a Redeemer, even Christ the Lord. In him the covenant of grace is made sure and everlasting.

 

【시118:22 JFB】22, 23. These words are applied by Christ (마21:42) to Himself, as the foundation of the Church (compare 행4:11; 엡2:20; 벧전2:4, 7). It may here denote God's wondrous exaltation to power and influence of him whom the rulers of the nation despised. Whether (see on 시118:1) David or Zerubbabel (compare 학2:2; Z전4:7-10) be primarily meant, there is here typically represented God's more wonderful doings in exalting Christ, crucified as an impostor, to be the Prince and Saviour and Head of His Church.

 

【시118:24 JFB】24. This is the day—or period distinguished by God's favor of all others.

 

【시118:25 JFB】25. Save now—Hebrew, "Hosanna" (compare 시115:2, &c., as to now) a form of prayer (시20:9), since, in our use, of praise.

 

【시118:26 JFB】26. he that cometh … Lord—As above intimated, this may be applied to the visible head of the Jewish Church entering the sanctuary, as leading the procession; typically it belongs to Him of whom the phrase became an epithet (말3:1; 마21:9).

 

【시118:27 JFB】27-29. showed us light—or favor (시27:1; 97:11). With the sacrificial victim brought bound to the altar is united the more spiritual offering of praise (시50:14, 23), expressed in the terms with which the Psalm opened.
