■ 시편 107장

1. 여호와께 감사하라 그는 선하시며 그 인자하심이 영원함이로다

  O give thanks unto the Lord , for he is good : for his mercy endureth for ever .

 

2. 여호와께 구속함을 받은 자는 이같이 말할지어다 여호와께서 대적의 손에서 저희를 구속하사

  Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy ;

 

3. 동서 남북 각 지방에서부터 모으셨도다

  And gathered them out of the lands , from the east , and from the west , from the north , and from the south .

 

4. 저희가 광야 사막 길에서 방황하며 거할 성을 찾지 못하고

  They wandered in the wilderness in a solitary way ; they found no city to dwell in.

 

5. 주리고 목마름으로 그 영혼이 속에서 피곤하였도다

  Hungry and thirsty , their soul fainted in them.

 

6. 이에 저희가 그 근심 중에 여호와께 부르짖으매 그 고통에서 건지시고

  Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble , and he delivered them out of their distresses .

 

7. 또 바른 길로 인도하사 거할 성에 이르게 하셨도다

  And he led them forth by the right way , that they might go to a city of habitation .

 

8. 여호와의 인자하심과 인생에게 행하신 기이한 일을 인하여 그를 찬송할지로다

  Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness , and for his wonderful works to the children of men !

 

9. 저가 사모하는 영혼을 만족케 하시며 주린 영혼에게 좋은 것으로 채워주심이로다

  For he satisfieth the longing soul , and filleth the hungry soul with goodness .

 

10. 사람이 흑암과 사망의 그늘에 앉으며 곤고와 쇠사슬에 매임은

  Such as sit in darkness and in the shadow of death , being bound in affliction and iron ;

 

11. 하나님의 말씀을 거역하며 지존자의 뜻을 멸시함이라

  Because they rebelled against the words of God , and contemned the counsel of the most High :

 

12. 그러므로 수고로 저희 마음을 낮추셨으니 저희가 엎드러져도 돕는 자가 없었도다

  Therefore he brought down their heart with labour ; they fell down , and there was none to help .

 

13. 이에 저희가 그 근심 중에 여호와께 부르짖으매 그 고통에서 구원하시되

  Then they cried unto the Lord in their trouble , and he saved them out of their distresses .

 

14. 흑암과 사망의 그늘에서 인도하여 내시고 그 얽은 줄을 끊으셨도다

  He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death , and brake their bands in sunder .

 

15. 여호와의 인자하심과 인생에게 행하신 기이한 일을 인하여 그를 찬송할지로다

  Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness , and for his wonderful works to the children of men !

 

16. 저가 놋문을 깨뜨리시며 쇠빗장을 꺾으셨음이로다

  For he hath broken the gates of brass , and cut the bars of iron in sunder .

 

17. 미련한 자는 저희 범과와 죄악의 연고로 곤난을 당하매

  Fools because of their transgression , and because of their iniquities , are afflicted .

 

18. 저희 혼이 각종 식물을 싫어하여 사망의 문에 가깝도다

  Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat ; and they draw near unto the gates of death .

 

19. 이에 저희가 그 근심 중에서 여호와께 부르짖으매 그 고통에서 구원하시되

  Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble , and he saveth them out of their distresses .

 

20. 저가 그 말씀을 보내어 저희를 고치사 위경에서 건지시는도다

  He sent his word , and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions .

 

21. 여호와의 인자하심과 인생에게 행하신 기이한 일을 인하여 그를 찬송할지로다

  Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness , and for his wonderful works to the children of men !

 

22. 감사제를 드리며 노래하여 그 행사를 선포할지로다

  And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving , and declare his works with rejoicing .

 

23. 선척을 바다에 띄우며 큰 물에서 영업하는 자는

  They that go down to the sea in ships , that do business in great waters ;

 

24. 여호와의 행사와 그 기사를 바다에서 보나니

  These see the works of the Lord , and his wonders in the deep .

 

25. 여호와께서 명하신즉 광풍이 일어나서 바다 물결을 일으키는도다

  For he commandeth , and raiseth the stormy wind , which lifteth up the waves thereof.

 

26. 저희가 하늘에 올랐다가 깊은 곳에 내리니 그 위험을 인하여 그 영혼이 녹는도다

  They mount up to the heaven , they go down again to the depths : their soul is melted because of trouble .

 

27. 저희가 이리 저리 구르며 취한 자 같이 비틀거리니 지각이 혼돈하도다

  They reel to and fro , and stagger like a drunken man , and are at their wits’ end .

 

28. 이에 저희가 그 근심 중에서 여호와께 부르짖으매 그 고통에서 인도하여 내시고

  Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble , and he bringeth them out of their distresses .

 

29. 광풍을 평정히 하사 물결로 잔잔케 하시는도다

  He maketh the storm a calm , so that the waves thereof are still .

 

30. 저희가 평온함을 인하여 기뻐하는 중에 여호와께서 저희를 소원의 항구로 인도하시는도다

  Then are they glad because they be quiet ; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven .

 

31. 여호와의 인자하심과 인생에게 행하신 기이한 일을 인하여 그를 찬송할지로다

  Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness , and for his wonderful works to the children of men !

 

32. 백성의 회에서 저를 높이며 장로들의 자리에서 저를 찬송할지로다

  Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people , and praise him in the assembly of the elders .

 

33. 여호와께서는 강을 변하여 광야가 되게 하시며 샘으로 마른 땅이 되게 하시며

  He turneth rivers into a wilderness , and the watersprings into dry ground ;

 

34. 그 거민의 악을 인하여 옥토로 염밭이 되게 하시며

  A fruitful land into barrenness , for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

 

35. 또 광야를 변하여 못이 되게 하시며 마른 땅으로 샘물이 되게 하시고

  He turneth the wilderness into a standing water , and dry ground into watersprings .

 

36. 주린 자로 거기 거하게 하사 저희로 거할 성을 예비케 하시고

  And there he maketh the hungry to dwell , that they may prepare a city for habitation ;

 

37. 밭에 파종하며 포도원을 재배하여 소산을 취케 하시며

  And sow the fields , and plant vineyards , which may yield fruits of increase .

 

38. 또 복을 주사 저희로 크게 번성케 하시고 그 가축이 감소치 않게 하실지라도

  He blesseth them also, so that they are multiplied greatly ; and suffereth not their cattle to decrease .

 

39. 다시 압박과 곤란과 우환을 인하여 저희로 감소하여 비굴하게 하시는도다

  Again, they are minished and brought low through oppression , affliction , and sorrow .

 

40. 여호와께서는 방백들에게 능욕을 부으시고 길 없는 황야에서 유리케 하시나

  He poureth contempt upon princes , and causeth them to wander in the wilderness , where there is no way .

 

41. 궁핍한 자는 곤란에서 높이 드시고 그 가족을 양무리 같게 하시나니

  Yet setteth he the poor on high from affliction , and maketh him families like a flock .

 

42. 정직한 자는 보고 기뻐하며 모든 악인은 자기 입을 봉하리로다

  The righteous shall see it, and rejoice : and all iniquity shall stop her mouth .

 

43. 지혜 있는 자들은 이 일에 주의하고 여호와의 인자하심을 깨달으리로다

  Whoso is wise , and will observe these things, even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the Lord .

【시107:1 JFB】시107:1-43. Although the general theme of this Psalm may have been suggested by God's special favor to the Israelites in their restoration from captivity, it must be regarded as an instructive celebration of God's praise for His merciful providence to all men in their various emergencies. Of these several are given—captivity and bondage, wanderings by land and sea, and famine; some as evidences of God's displeasure, and all the deliverances as evidence of His goodness and mercy to them who humbly seek Him.
1, 2. This call for thankful praise is the burden or chorus (compare 시107:8, 15, &c.).

 

【시107:1 CWC】The first Psalm in this lesson suggests Psalm 74 on which we did not dwell, but both of which depict the desolations of Judah by the Babylonians (cf. 렘52:12-24), On this supposition their date would be that of the captivity, and their author a later Asaph than the Asaph mentioned in David's time.
Psalm 80.
Has captivity features also, and some would say it relates to the ten tribes, as the preceding Psalm does to Judah, The next several Psalms are much alike in this respect and may easily be interpreted from that point of view.
Psalm 86.
Attributed to David, constitutes a break in the series, and is a prayer which we pause to analyze. Observe the touching picture in verse 1, a child with his arms round his father's neck. Observe the five requests for: preservation, joy, instruction, strength and encouragement, in verses 2, 4, 11, 16 and 17 respectively. Observe the grounds from the human side on which an answer is expected, his need, importunity (margin), trust, relationship to God (margin), verses 1, 3, 4 and 2. From the divine side he expected it because of God's goodness, greatness and grace, verses, 5, 10, 13.
Of the authors of Psalms 88 and 89 we know nothing save that their names are among David's singers (대상6:18,33; 15:17). There is little to show the occasion when they were written, but the last-named has been assigned to Absalom's rebellion. From that point of view it may be a contrast between the promised prosperity of David's throne (2 Sam. 7), and what now threatens its downfall; but in any event it is full of helpfulness in spiritual application.
Psalms 90 and 91 (especially the latter).
Rank with 37, 51 and 103 in popular favor, being quoted almost as frequently. The first is a contrast between man's frailty and God's eternity, and the second, an outburst, of confidence in the presence of physical peril. Many a foreign missionary has found this last "a very present help in time of trouble"! The two Psalms are also capable of a dispensational application, the first referring to Israel's day of sorrow and repentance, and the second to her deliverance and protection from the tribulation to come. Satan's use of 91:11, 12, in the temptation of our Lord, will not be forgotten (마4:6).
Psalms 93-100.
Were applied by the Jews to the times of the Messiah, who had in mind His first advent only; but we in the light of subsequent events see their application to His second advent. In Psalm 93 He is entering on His reign; in 94 He is appealed to for judgment on the evil-doers; in 95 Israel is exhorted to praise Him, and warned against unbelief. The substance of the next four is found in 1 Chronicles 16, which was used by David's direction at the dedication of the tabernacle on Mt. Zion, which typified the dispensation of the Messiah.
A break appears at Psalm 101, where David is once more named, and is making a vow of consecration corresponding to Psalm 15. In Psalm 102 he is pouring out a deep complaint, prophetic of Israel's hour of tribulation and her deliverance therefrom (vv. 13-22). Observe that when the kingdoms of the earth are serving the Lord, men will be declaring His name in Zion and praising Him in Jerusalem. As we have seen earlier, that sacred city will be the centre of things in the millennial age.
Psalms 103-108.
Are all of praise. In the first, David rises from a thankful acknowledgment of personal blessings (vv. 1-5) to a celebration of God's attributes. In the next God is praised for His works of creation and providence. In the next Israel's special reasons for praise are enumerated, the thought being carried forward into the two succeeding Psalms, although the second of the two broadens out again into a celebration of God's mercy to all men in their various emergencies. It is one of the most beautiful of the Psalms and its structure affords another good opportunity to illustrate Hebrew poetry.

 

【시107:1 MHCC】In these verses there is reference to the deliverance from Egypt, and perhaps that from Babylon: but the circumstances of travellers in those countries are also noted. It is scarcely possible to conceive the horrors suffered by the hapless traveller, when crossing the trackless sands, exposed to the burning rays of the sum. The words describe their case whom the Lord has redeemed from the bondage of Satan; who pass through the world as a dangerous and dreary wilderness, often ready to faint through troubles, fears, and temptations. Those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, after God, and communion with him, shall be filled with the goodness of his house, both in grace and glory.

city of habitation—may mean the land of Palestine.

 

【시107:5 JFB】5. fainted—was overwhelmed (시61:3; 77:3).

 

【시107:8 JFB】8, 9. To the chorus is added, as a reason for praise, an example of the extreme distress from which they had been delivered—extreme hunger, the severest privation of a journey in the desert.

 

【시107:10 JFB】10-16. Their sufferings were for their rebellion against (시105:28) the words, or purposes, or promises, of God for their benefit. When humbled they cry to God, who delivers them from bondage, described as a dark dungeon with doors and bars of metal, in which they are bound in iron—that is, chains and fetters.

【시107:10 MHCC】This description of prisoners and captives intimates that they are desolate and sorrowful. In the eastern prisons the captives were and are treated with much severity. Afflicting providences must be improved as humbling providences; and we lose the benefit, if our hearts are unhumbled and unbroken under them. This is a shadow of the sinner's deliverance from a far worse confinement. The awakened sinner discovers his guilt and misery. Having struggled in vain for deliverance, he finds there is no help for him but in the mercy and grace of God. His sin is forgiven by a merciful God, and his pardon is accompanied by deliverance from the power of sin and Satan, and by the sanctifying and comforting influences of God the Holy Spirit.

 

【시107:16 JFB】16. broken—literally, "shivered" (사45:2).

 

【시107:17 MHCC】If we knew no sin, we should know no sickness. Sinners are fools. They hurt their bodily health by intemperance, and endanger their lives by indulging their appetites. This their way is their folly. The weakness of the body is the effect of sickness. It is by the power and mercy of God that we are recovered from sickness, and it is our duty to be thankful. All Christ's miraculous cures were emblems of his healing diseases of the soul. It is also to be applied to the spiritual cures which the Spirit of grace works. He sends his word, and heals souls; convinces, converts them, makes them holy, and all by the word. Even in common cases of recovery from sickness, God in his providence speaks, and it is done; by his word and Spirit the soul is restored to health and holiness.

【시107:23 MHCC】Let those who go to sea, consider and adore the Lord. Mariners have their business upon the tempestuous ocean, and there witness deliverances of which others cannot form an idea. How seasonable it is at such a time to pray! This may remind us of the terrors and distress of conscience many experience, and of those deep scenes of trouble which many pass through, in their Christian course. Yet, in answer to their cries, the Lord turns their storm into a calm, and causes their trials to end in gladness.

assembly—or session of elders, convened for reading, singing, prayer, and teaching.

 

【시107:33 JFB】33-41. He turneth rivers into a wilderness, &c.—God's providence is illustriously displayed in His influence on two great elements of human prosperity, the earth's productiveness and the powers of government. He punishes the wicked by destroying the sources of fertility, or, in mercy, gives fruitfulness to deserts, which become the homes of a busy and successful agricultural population. By a permitted misrule and tyranny, this scene of prosperity is changed to one of adversity. He rules rulers, setting up one and putting down another.

 

【시107:33 MHCC】What surprising changes are often made in the affairs of men! Let the present desolate state of Judea, and of other countries, explain this. If we look abroad in the world, we see many greatly increase, whose beginning was small. We see many who have thus suddenly risen, as suddenly brought to nothing. Worldly wealth is uncertain; often those who are filled with it, ere they are aware, lose it again. God has many ways of making men poor. The righteous shall rejoice. It shall fully convince all those who deny the Divine Providence. When sinners see how justly God takes away the gifts they have abused, they will not have a word to say. It is of great use to us to be fully assured of God's goodness, and duly affected with it. It is our wisdom to mind our duty, and to refer our comfort to him. A truly wise person will treasure in his heart this delightful psalm. From it, he will fully understand the weakness and wretchedness of man, and the power and loving-kindness of God, not for our merit, but for his mercy's sake.

 

【시107:40 JFB】40. wander … wilderness—reduced to misery (욥12:24).

 

【시107:42 JFB】42, 43. In this providential government, good men will rejoice, and the cavils of the wicked will be stopped (욥5:16; 사52:15), and all who take right views will appreciate God's unfailing mercy and unbounded love.
