■ 시편 106장

1. 할렐루야 여호와께 감사하라 그는 선하시며 그 인자하심이 영원함이로다

  Praise ye the Lord . O give thanks unto the Lord ; for he is good : for his mercy endureth for ever .

 

2. 뉘 능히 여호와의 능하신 사적을 전파하며 그 영예를 다 광포할꼬

  Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord ? who can shew forth all his praise ?

 

3. 공의를 지키는 자들과 항상 의를 행하는 자는 복이 있도다

  Blessed are they that keep judgment , and he that doeth righteousness at all times .

 

4. 여호와여 주의 백성에게 베푸시는 은혜로 나를 기억하시며 주의 구원으로 나를 권고하사

  Remember me, O Lord , with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people : O visit me with thy salvation ;

 

5. 나로 주의 택하신 자의 형통함을 보고 주의 나라의 기업으로 즐거워하게 하시며 주의 기업과 함께 자랑하게 하소서

  That I may see the good of thy chosen , that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation , that I may glory with thine inheritance .

 

6. 우리가 열조와 함께 범죄하여 사특을 행하며 악을 지었나이다

  We have sinned with our fathers , we have committed iniquity , we have done wickedly .

 

7. 우리 열조가 애굽에서 주의 기사를 깨닫지 못하며 주의 많은 인자를 기억지 아니하고 바다 곧 홍해에서 거역하였나이다

  Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt ; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies ; but provoked him at the sea , even at the Red sea .

 

8. 그러나 여호와께서 자기 이름을 위하여 저희를 구원하셨으니 그 큰 권능을 알게 하려 하심이로다

  Nevertheless he saved them for his name’s sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known .

 

9. 이에 홍해를 꾸짖으시니 곧 마르매 저희를 인도하여 바다 지나기를 광야를 지남 같게 하사

  He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up : so he led them through the depths , as through the wilderness .

 

10. 저희를 그 미워하는 자의 손에서 구원하시며 그 원수의 손에서 구속하셨고

  And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy .

 

11. 저희 대적은 물이 덮으매 하나도 남지 아니하였도다

  And the waters covered their enemies : there was not one of them left .

 

12. 이에 저희가 그 말씀을 믿고 그 찬송을 불렀도다

  Then believed they his words ; they sang his praise .

 

13. 저희가 미구에 그 행사를 잊어버리며 그 가르침을 기다리지 아니하고

  They soon forgat his works ; they waited not for his counsel :

 

14. 광야에서 욕심을 크게 발하며 사막에서 하나님을 시험하였도다

  But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness , and tempted God in the desert .

 

15. 여호와께서 저희의 요구한 것을 주셨을지라도 그 영혼을 파리하게 하셨도다

  And he gave them their request ; but sent leanness into their soul .

 

16. 저희가 진에서 모세와 여호와의 성도 아론을 질투하매

  They envied Moses also in the camp , and Aaron the saint of the Lord .

 

17. 땅이 갈라져 다단을 삼키며 아비람의 당을 덮었으며

  The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan , and covered the company of Abiram .

 

18. 불이 그 당 중에 붙음이여 화염이 악인을 살랐도다

  And a fire was kindled in their company ; the flame burned up the wicked .

 

19. 저희가 호렙에서 송아지를 만들고 부어 만든 우상을 숭배하여

  They made a calf in Horeb , and worshipped the molten image .

 

20. 자기 영광을 풀 먹는 소의 형상으로 바꾸었도다

  Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass .

 

21. 애굽에서 큰 일을 행하신 그 구원자 하나님을 저희가 잊었나니

  They forgat God their saviour , which had done great things in Egypt ;

 

22. 그는 함 땅에서 기사와 홍해에서 놀랄 일을 행하신 자로다

  Wondrous works in the land of Ham , and terrible things by the Red sea .

 

23. 그러므로 여호와께서 저희를 멸하리라 하셨으나 그 택하신 모세가 그 결렬된 중에서 그 앞에 서서 그 노를 돌이켜 멸하시지 않게 하였도다

  Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach , to turn away his wrath , lest he should destroy them.

 

24. 저희가 낙토를 멸시하며 그 말씀을 믿지 아니하고

  Yea, they despised the pleasant land , they believed not his word :

 

25. 저희 장막에서 원망하며 여호와의 말씀을 청종치 아니하였도다

  But murmured in their tents , and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord .

 

26. 이러므로 저가 맹세하시기를 저희로 광야에 엎더지게 하고

  Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness :

 

27. 또 그 후손을 열방 중에 엎드러뜨리며 각지에 흩어지게 하리라 하셨도다

  To overthrow their seed also among the nations , and to scatter them in the lands .

 

28. 저희가 또 바알브올과 연합하여 죽은 자에게 제사한 음식을 먹어서

  They joined themselves also unto Baal–peor , and ate the sacrifices of the dead .

 

29. 그 행위로 주를 격노케 함을 인하여 재앙이 그 중에 유행하였도다

  Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions : and the plague brake in upon them.

 

30. 때에 비느하스가 일어나 처벌하니 이에 재앙이 그쳤도다

  Then stood up Phinehas , and executed judgment : and so the plague was stayed .

 

31. 이 일을 저에게 의로 정하였으니 대대로 무궁하리로다

  And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore .

 

32. 저희가 또 므리바 물에서 여호와를 노하시게 하였으므로 저희로 인하여 얼이 모세에게 미쳤나니

  They angered him also at the waters of strife , so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:

 

33. 이는 저희가 그 심령을 거역함을 인하여 모세가 그 입술로 망령되이 말하였음이로다

  Because they provoked his spirit , so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips .

 

34. 저희가 여호와의 명을 좇지 아니하여 이족들을 멸하지 아니하고

  They did not destroy the nations , concerning whom the Lord commanded them:

 

35. 열방과 섞여서 그 행위를 배우며

  But were mingled among the heathen , and learned their works .

 

36. 그 우상들을 섬기므로 그것이 저희에게 올무가 되었도다

  And they served their idols : which were a snare unto them.

 

37. 저희가 그 자녀로 사신에게 제사하였도다

  Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils ,

 

38. 무죄한 피 곧 저희 자녀의 피를 흘려 가나안 우상에게 제사하므로 그 땅이 피에 더러웠도다

  And shed innocent blood , even the blood of their sons and of their daughters , whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan : and the land was polluted with blood .

 

39. 저희는 그 행위로 더러워지며 그 행동이 음탕하도다

  Thus were they defiled with their own works , and went a whoring with their own inventions .

 

40. 그러므로 여호와께서 자기 백성에게 맹렬히 노하시며 자기 기업을 미워하사

  Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people , insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance .

 

41. 저희를 열방의 손에 붙이시매 저희를 미워하는 자들이 저희를 치리하였도다

  And he gave them into the hand of the heathen ; and they that hated them ruled over them.

 

42. 저희가 원수들의 압박을 받고 그 수하에 복종케 되었도다

  Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand .

 

43. 여호와께서 여러 번 저희를 건지시나 저희가 꾀로 거역하며 자기 죄악으로 인하여 낮아짐을 당하였도다

  Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel , and were brought low for their iniquity .

 

44. 그러나 여호와께서 저희의 부르짖음을 들으실 때에 그 고통을 권고하시며

  Nevertheless he regarded their affliction , when he heard their cry :

 

45. 저희를 위하여 그 언약을 기억하시고 그 많은 인자하심을 따라 뜻을 돌이키사

  And he remembered for them his covenant , and repented according to the multitude of his mercies .

 

46. 저희로 사로잡은 모든 자에게서 긍휼히 여김을 받게 하셨도다

  He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives .

 

47. 여호와 우리 하나님이여 우리를 구원하사 열방 중에서 모으시고 우리로 주의 성호를 감사하며 주의 영예를 찬양하게 하소서

  Save us, O Lord our God , and gather us from among the heathen , to give thanks unto thy holy name , and to triumph in thy praise .

 

48. 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님을 영원부터 영원까지 찬양할지어다 모든 백성들아 아멘 할지어다 할렐루야

  Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting : and let all the people say , Amen . Praise ye the Lord .

【시106:1 JFB】시106:1-48. This Psalm gives a detailed confession of the sins of Israel in all periods of their history, with special reference to the terms of the covenant as intimated (시105:45). It is introduced by praise to God for the wonders of His mercy, and concluded by a supplication for His favor to His afflicted people, and a doxology.
1. Praise, &c.—(See on 시104:35), begins and ends the Psalm, intimating the obligations of praise, however we sin and suffer 대상16:34-36 is the source from which the beginning and end of this Psalm are derived.

 

【시106:1 CWC】The first Psalm in this lesson suggests Psalm 74 on which we did not dwell, but both of which depict the desolations of Judah by the Babylonians (cf. 렘52:12-24), On this supposition their date would be that of the captivity, and their author a later Asaph than the Asaph mentioned in David's time.
Psalm 80.
Has captivity features also, and some would say it relates to the ten tribes, as the preceding Psalm does to Judah, The next several Psalms are much alike in this respect and may easily be interpreted from that point of view.
Psalm 86.
Attributed to David, constitutes a break in the series, and is a prayer which we pause to analyze. Observe the touching picture in verse 1, a child with his arms round his father's neck. Observe the five requests for: preservation, joy, instruction, strength and encouragement, in verses 2, 4, 11, 16 and 17 respectively. Observe the grounds from the human side on which an answer is expected, his need, importunity (margin), trust, relationship to God (margin), verses 1, 3, 4 and 2. From the divine side he expected it because of God's goodness, greatness and grace, verses, 5, 10, 13.
Of the authors of Psalms 88 and 89 we know nothing save that their names are among David's singers (대상6:18,33; 15:17). There is little to show the occasion when they were written, but the last-named has been assigned to Absalom's rebellion. From that point of view it may be a contrast between the promised prosperity of David's throne (2 Sam. 7), and what now threatens its downfall; but in any event it is full of helpfulness in spiritual application.
Psalms 90 and 91 (especially the latter).
Rank with 37, 51 and 103 in popular favor, being quoted almost as frequently. The first is a contrast between man's frailty and God's eternity, and the second, an outburst, of confidence in the presence of physical peril. Many a foreign missionary has found this last "a very present help in time of trouble"! The two Psalms are also capable of a dispensational application, the first referring to Israel's day of sorrow and repentance, and the second to her deliverance and protection from the tribulation to come. Satan's use of 91:11, 12, in the temptation of our Lord, will not be forgotten (마4:6).
Psalms 93-100.
Were applied by the Jews to the times of the Messiah, who had in mind His first advent only; but we in the light of subsequent events see their application to His second advent. In Psalm 93 He is entering on His reign; in 94 He is appealed to for judgment on the evil-doers; in 95 Israel is exhorted to praise Him, and warned against unbelief. The substance of the next four is found in 1 Chronicles 16, which was used by David's direction at the dedication of the tabernacle on Mt. Zion, which typified the dispensation of the Messiah.
A break appears at Psalm 101, where David is once more named, and is making a vow of consecration corresponding to Psalm 15. In Psalm 102 he is pouring out a deep complaint, prophetic of Israel's hour of tribulation and her deliverance therefrom (vv. 13-22). Observe that when the kingdoms of the earth are serving the Lord, men will be declaring His name in Zion and praising Him in Jerusalem. As we have seen earlier, that sacred city will be the centre of things in the millennial age.
Psalms 103-108.
Are all of praise. In the first, David rises from a thankful acknowledgment of personal blessings (vv. 1-5) to a celebration of God's attributes. In the next God is praised for His works of creation and providence. In the next Israel's special reasons for praise are enumerated, the thought being carried forward into the two succeeding Psalms, although the second of the two broadens out again into a celebration of God's mercy to all men in their various emergencies. It is one of the most beautiful of the Psalms and its structure affords another good opportunity to illustrate Hebrew poetry.

 

【시106:1 MHCC】None of our sins or sufferings should prevent our ascribing glory and praise to the Lord. The more unworthy we are, the more is his kindness to be admired. And those who depend on the Redeemer's righteousness will endeavour to copy his example, and by word and deed to show forth his praise. God's people have reason to be cheerful people; and need not envy the children of men their pleasure or pride.

 

【시106:2 JFB】2. His acts exceed our comprehension, as His praise our powers of expression (롬11:33). Their unutterable greatness is not to keep us back, but to urge us the more to try to praise Him as best we can (시40:5; 71:15).

 

【시106:3 JFB】3. The blessing is limited to those whose principles and acts are right. How "blessed" Israel would be now, if he had "observed God's statutes" (시105:45).

 

【시106:4 JFB】4, 5. In view of the desert of sins to be confessed, the writer invokes God's covenant mercy to himself and the Church, in whose welfare he rejoices. The speaker, me, I, is not the Psalmist himself, but the people, the present generation (compare 시106:6).
visit—(Compare 시8:4).

 

【시106:5 JFB】5. see the good—participate in it (시37:13).
thy chosen—namely, Israel, God's elect (사43:20; 45:4). As God seems to have forgotten them, they pray that He would "remember" them with the favor which belongs to His own people, and which once they had enjoyed.
thine inheritance—(신9:29; 32:9).

 

【시106:6 JFB】6. Compare 왕상8:47; 단9:5, where the same three verbs occur in the same order and connection, the original of the two later passages being the first one, the prayer of Solomon in dedicating the temple.
sinned … fathers—like them, and so partaking of their guilt. The terms denote a rising gradation of sinning (compare 시1:1).
with our fathers—we and they together forming one mass of corruption.

 

【시106:6 MHCC】Here begins a confession of sin; for we must acknowledge that the Lord has done right, and we have done wickedly. We are encouraged to hope that though justly corrected, yet we shall not be utterly forsaken. God's afflicted people own themselves guilty before him. God is distrusted because his favours are not remembered. If he did not save us for his own name's sake, and to the praise of his power and grace, we should all perish.

 

【시106:7 JFB】7-12. Special confession. Their rebellion at the sea (출14:11) was because they had not remembered nor understood God's miracles on their behalf. That God saved them in their unbelief was of His mere mercy, and for His own glory.
the sea … the Red Sea—the very words in which Moses' song celebrated the scene of Israel's deliverance (출15:4). Israel began to rebel against God at the very moment and scene of its deliverance by God!

【시106:12 JFB】12. believed … his words—This is said not to praise the Israelites, but God, who constrained even so unbelieving a people momentarily to "believe" while in immediate view of His wonders, a faith which they immediately afterwards lost (시106:13; 출14:31; 15:1).

 

【시106:13 JFB】13-15. The faith induced by God's display of power in their behalf was short lived, and their new rebellion and temptation was visited by God with fresh punishment, inflicted by leaving them to the result of their own gratified appetites, and sending on them spiritual poverty (민11:18).
They soon forgat—literally, "They hasted, they forgat" (compare 출32:8). "They have turned aside quickly (or, hastily) out of the way." The haste of our desires is such that we can scarcely allow God one day. Unless He immediately answers our call, instantly then arise impatience, and at length despair.
his works—(신11:3, 4; 단9:14).
his counsel—They waited not for the development of God's counsel, or plan for their deliverance, at His own time, and in His own way.

 

【시106:13 MHCC】Those that will not wait for God's counsel, shall justly be given up to their own hearts' lusts, to walk in their own counsels. An undue desire, even for lawful things, becomes sinful. God showed his displeasure for this. He filled them with uneasiness of mind, terror of conscience, and self-reproach. Many that fare deliciously every day, and whose bodies are healthful, have leanness in their souls: no love to God, no thankfulness, no appetite for the Bread of life, and then the soul must be lean. Those wretchedly forget themselves, that feast their bodies and starve their souls. Even the true believer will see abundant cause to say, It is of the Lord's mercies that I am not consumed. Often have we set up idols in our hearts, cleaved to some forbidden object; so that if a greater than Moses had not stood to turn away the anger of the Lord, we should have been destroyed. If God dealt severely with Moses for unadvised words, what do those deserve who speak many proud and wicked words? It is just in God to remove those relations that are blessings to us, when we are peevish and provoking to them, and grieve their spirits.

 

【시106:14 JFB】14. Literally, "lusted a lust" (quoted from 민11:4, Margin). Previously, there had been impatience as to necessaries of life; here it is lusting (시78:18).

 

【시106:15 JFB】15. but sent leanness—rather, "and sent," that is, and thus, even in doing so, the punishment was inflicted at the very time their request was granted. So 시78:30, "While their meat was yet in their mouths, the wrath of God came upon them."
soul—the animal soul, which craves for food (민11:6; 시107:18). This soul got its wish, and with it and in it its own punishment. The place was therefore called Kibroth-hattaavah, "the graves of lust" [민11:34], because there they buried the people who had lusted. Animal desires when gratified mostly give only a hungry craving for more (렘2:13).

 

【시106:16 JFB】16-18. All the congregation took part with Dathan, Korah, &c., and their accomplices (민16:41).
Aaron the saint—literally, "the holy one," as consecrated priest; not a moral attribute, but one designating his office as holy to the Lord. The rebellion was followed by a double punishment: (1) of the non-Levitical rebels, the Reubenites, Dathan and Abiram, &c. (신11:6; 민26:10); these were swallowed up by the earth.

 

【시106:17 JFB】17. covered—"closed upon them" (민16:33). (2) Of the Levitical rebels, with Korah at their head (민16:35; 26:10); these had sinned by fire, and were punished by fire, as Aaron's (being high priest) sons had been (레10:2; 민16:1-35).

 

【시106:19 JFB】19-23. From indirect setting God at naught, they pass to direct.
made—though prohibited in 출20:4, 5 to make a likeness, even of the true God.
calf—called so in contempt. They would have made an ox or bull, but their idol turned out but a calf; an imitation of the divine symbols, the cherubim; or of the sacred bull of Egyptian idolatry. The idolatry was more sinful in view of their recent experience of God's power in Egypt and His wonders at Sinai (출32:1-6). Though intending to worship Jehovah under the symbol of the calf, yet as this was incompatible with His nature (신4:15-17), they in reality gave up Him, and so were given up by Him. Instead of the Lord of heaven, they had as their glory the image of an ox that does nothing but eat grass.

 

【시106:23 JFB】23. he said—namely, to Moses (신9:13). With God, saying is as certain as doing; but His purpose, while full of wrath against sin, takes into account the mediation of Him of whom Moses was the type (출32:11-14; 신9:18, 19).
Moses his chosen—that is, to be His servant (compare 시105:26).
in the breach—as a warrior covers with his body the broken part of a wall or fortress besieged, a perilous place (겔13:5; 22:30).
to turn away—or, "prevent"
his wrath—(민25:11; 시78:38).

 

【시106:24 JFB】24-27. The sin of refusing to invade Canaan, "the pleasant land" (렘3:19; 겔20:6; 단8:9), "the land of beauty," was punished by the destruction of that generation (민14:28), and the threat of dispersion (신4:25; 28:32) afterwards made to their posterity, and fulfilled in the great calamities now bewailed, may have also been then added.
despised—(민14:31).
believed not his word—by which He promised He would give them the land; but rather the word of the faithless spies (compare 시78:22).

 

【시106:26 JFB】26. lifted up his hand—or, "swore," the usual form of swearing (compare 민14:30, Margin).

 

【시106:27 JFB】27. To overthrow—literally, "To make them fall"; alluding to the words (민14:39).
among … nations … lands—The "wilderness" was not more destructive to the fathers (시106:26) than residence among the heathen ("nations") shall be to the children. 레26:33, 38 is here, before the Psalmist's mind, the determination against the "seed" when rebellious, being not expressed in 민14:31-33, but implied in the determination against the fathers.

 

【시106:28 JFB】28-30. sacrifices of the dead—that is, of lifeless idols, contrasted with "the living God" (렘10:3-10; compare 시115:4-7; 고전12:2). On the words,
joined themselves to Baal-peor—see 민25:2, 3, 5.
Baal-peor—that is, the possessor of Peor, the mountain on which Chemosh, the idol of Moab, was worshipped, and at the foot of which Israel at the time lay encamped (민23:28). The name never occurs except in connection with that locality and that circumstance.

 

【시106:29 JFB】29. provoked—excited grief and indignation (시6:7; 78:58).

 

【시106:30 JFB】30. stood—as Aaron "stood between the living and the dead, and the plague was stayed" (민16:48).
executed judgment—literally, "judged," including sentence and act.

 

【시106:31 JFB】31. counted … righteousness—"a just and rewardable action."
for—or, "unto," to the procuring of righteousness, as in 롬4:2; 10:4. Here it was a particular act, not faith, nor its object Christ; and what was procured was not justifying righteousness, or what was to be rewarded with eternal life; for no one act of man's can be taken for complete obedience. But it was that which God approved and rewarded with a perpetual priesthood to him and his descendants (민25:13; 대상6:4, &c.).

went ill with—literally, "was bad for"
Moses—His conduct, though under great provocation, was punished by exclusion from Canaan.

 

【시106:34 JFB】34-39. They not only failed to expel the heathen, as God
commanded—(출23:32, 33), literally, "said (they should)," but conformed to their idolatries [시106:36], and thus became spiritual adulterers (시73:27).

 

【시106:34 MHCC】The conduct of the Israelites in Canaan, and God's dealings with them, show that the way of sin is down-hill; omissions make way for commissions: when they neglected to destroy the heathen, they learned their works. One sin led to many more, and brought the judgments of God on them. Their sin was, in part, their own punishment. Sinners often see themselves ruined by those who led them into evil. Satan, who is a tempter, will be a tormentor. At length, God showed pity to his people for his covenant's sake. The unchangeableness of God's merciful nature and love to his people, makes him change the course of justice into mercy; and no other change is meant by God's repentance. Our case is awful when the outward church is considered. When nations professing Christianity, are so guilty as we are, no wonder if the Lord brings them low for their sins. Unless there is general and deep repentance, there can be no prospect but of increasing calamities. The psalm concludes with prayer for completing the deliverance of God's people, and praise for the beginning and progress of it. May all the people of the earth, ere long, add their Amen.

【시106:40 JFB】40-43. Those nations first seduced and then oppressed them (compare 유1:34; 2:14; 3:30). Their apostasies ungratefully repaid God's many mercies till He finally abandoned them to punishment (레26:39).

 

【시106:44 JFB】44-46. If, as is probable, this Psalm was written at the time of the captivity, the writer now intimates the tokens of God's returning favor.

【시106:46 JFB】46. made … pitied—(왕상8:50; 단1:9). These tokens encourage the prayer and the promise of praise (시30:4), which is well closed by a doxology.
