■ 이사야 51장
1. 의를 좇으며 여호와를 찾아 구하는 너희는 나를 들을지어다 너희를 떠낸 반석과 너희를 파낸 우묵한 구덩이를 생각하여 보라
Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness , ye that seek the Lord : look unto the rock whence ye are hewn , and to the hole of the pit whence ye are digged .
2. 너희 조상 아브라함과 너희를 생산한 사라를 생각하여 보라 아브라함이 혈혈 단신으로 있을 때에 내가 부르고 그에게 복을 주어 창성케 하였느니라
Look unto Abraham your father , and unto Sarah that bare you: for I called him alone , and blessed him, and increased him.
3. 대저 나 여호와가 시온을 위로하되 그 모든 황폐한 곳을 위로하여 그 광야로 에덴 같고 그 사막으로 여호와의 동산 같게 하였나니 그 가운데 기뻐함과 즐거움과 감사함과 창화하는 소리가 있으리라
For the Lord shall comfort Zion : he will comfort all her waste places ; and he will make her wilderness like Eden , and her desert like the garden of the Lord ; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving , and the voice of melody .

4. 내 백성이여 내게 주의하라 내 나라여 내게 귀를 기울이라 이는 율법이 내게서부터 발할 것임이라 내가 내 공의를 만민의 빛으로 세우리라
Hearken unto me, my people ; and give ear unto me, O my nation : for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people .
5. 내 의가 가깝고 내 구원이 나갔은즉 내 팔이 만민을 심판하리니 섬들이 나를 앙망하여 내 팔에 의지하리라
My righteousness is near ; my salvation is gone forth , and mine arms shall judge the people ; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust .
6. 너희는 하늘로 눈을 들며 그 아래의 땅을 살피라 하늘이 연기 같이 사라지고 땅이 옷 같이 해어지며 거기 거한 자들이 하루살이 같이 죽으려니와 나의 구원은 영원히 있고 나의 의는 폐하여지지 아니하리라
Lift up your eyes to the heavens , and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke , and the earth shall wax old like a garment , and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner : but my salvation shall be for ever , and my righteousness shall not be abolished .
7. 의를 아는 자들아, 마음에 내 율법이 있는 백성들아, 너희는 나를 듣고 사람의 훼방을 두려워 말라 사람의 비방에 놀라지 말라
Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness , the people in whose heart is my law ; fear ye not the reproach of men , neither be ye afraid of their revilings .
8. 그들은 옷 같이 좀에게 먹힐 것이며 그들은 양털 같이 벌레에게 먹힐 것이로되 나의 의는 영원히 있겠고 나의 구원은 세세에 미치리라
For the moth shall eat them up like a garment , and the worm shall eat them like wool : but my righteousness shall be for ever , and my salvation from generation to generation .
9. 여호와의 팔이여 깨소서 깨소서 능력을 베푸소서 옛날 옛 시대에 깨신 것 같이 하소서 라합을 저미시고 용을 찌르신 이가 어찌 주가 아니시며
Awake , awake , put on strength , O arm of the Lord ; awake , as in the ancient days , in the generations of old . Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab , and wounded the dragon ?
10. 바다를, 넓고 깊은 물을 말리시고 바다 깊은 곳에 길을 내어 구속얻은 자들로 건너게 하신 이가 어찌 주가 아니시니이까
Art thou not it which hath dried the sea , the waters of the great deep ; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over ?
11. 여호와께 구속된 자들이 돌아와서 노래하며 시온으로 들어와서 그 머리 위에 영영한 기쁨을 쓰고 즐거움과 기쁨을 얻으리니 슬픔과 탄식이 달아나리이다
Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall return , and come with singing unto Zion ; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head : they shall obtain gladness and joy ; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away .
12. 가라사대 너희를 위로하는 자는 나여늘 나여늘 너는 어떠한 자이기에 죽을 사람을 두려워하며 풀 같이 될 인자를 두려워하느냐
I, even I, am he that comforteth you: who art thou, that thou shouldest be afraid of a man that shall die , and of the son of man which shall be made as grass ;
13. 하늘을 펴고 땅의 기초를 정하고 너를 지은 자 여호와를 어찌하여 잊어버렸느냐 너를 멸하려고 예비하는 저 학대자의 분노를 어찌하여 항상 종일 두려워하느냐 학대자의 분노가 어디 있느냐
And forgettest the Lord thy maker , that hath stretched forth the heavens , and laid the foundations of the earth ; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor , as if he were ready to destroy ? and where is the fury of the oppressor ?
14. 결박된 포로가 속히 놓일 것이니 죽지도 아니할 것이요 구덩이로 내려가지도 아니할 것이며 그 양식이 핍절하지도 아니하리라
The captive exile hasteneth that he may be loosed , and that he should not die in the pit , nor that his bread should fail .
15. 나는 네 하나님 여호와라 바다를 저어서 그 물결로 흉용케 하는 자니 내 이름은 만군의 여호와니라
But I am the Lord thy God , that divided the sea , whose waves roared : The Lord of hosts is his name .
16. 내가 내 말을 네 입에 두고 내 손 그늘로 너를 덮었나니 이는 내가 하늘을 펴며 땅의 기초를 정하며 시온에게 이르기를 너는 내 백성이라 하려 하였음이니라
And I have put my words in thy mouth , and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand , that I may plant the heavens , and lay the foundations of the earth , and say unto Zion , Thou art my people .
17. 여호와의 손에서 그 분노의 잔을 마신 예루살렘이여 깰지어다 깰지어다 일어설지어다 네가 이미 비틀걸음 치게 하는 큰 잔을 마셔 다하였도다
Awake , awake , stand up , O Jerusalem , which hast drunk at the hand of the Lord the cup of his fury ; thou hast drunken the dregs of the cup of trembling , and wrung them out .
18. 네가 낳은 모든 아들 중에 너를 인도할 자가 없고 너의 양육한 모든 아들 중에 그 손으로 너를 이끌 자도 없도다
There is none to guide her among all the sons whom she hath brought forth ; neither is there any that taketh her by the hand of all the sons that she hath brought up .
19. 이 두 가지 일이 네게 당하였으니 누가 너를 위하여 슬퍼하랴 곧 황폐와 멸망이요 기근과 칼이라 내가 어떻게 너를 위로하랴
These two things are come unto thee; who shall be sorry for thee? desolation , and destruction , and the famine , and the sword : by whom shall I comfort thee?
20. 네 아들들이 곤비하여 그물에 걸린 영양 같이 온 거리 모퉁이에 누웠으니 그들에게 여호와의 분노와 네 하나님의 견책이 가득하였도다
Thy sons have fainted , they lie at the head of all the streets , as a wild bull in a net : they are full of the fury of the Lord , the rebuke of thy God .
21. 그러므로 너 곤고하며 포도주가 아니라도 취한 자여 이 말을 들으라
Therefore hear now this, thou afflicted , and drunken , but not with wine :
22. 네 주 여호와, 그 백성을 신원하시는 네 하나님이 이같이 말씀하시되 보라 내가 비틀걸음 치게 하는 잔 곧 나의 분노의 큰 잔을 네 손에서 거두어서 너로 다시는 마시지 않게 하고
Thus saith thy Lord the Lord , and thy God that pleadeth the cause of his people , Behold, I have taken out of thine hand the cup of trembling , even the dregs of the cup of my fury ; thou shalt no more drink it again :
23. 그 잔을 너를 곤고케 하던 자들의 손에 두리라 그들은 일찍이 네게 이르기를 엎드리라 우리가 넘어가리라 하던 자들이라 너를 넘어가려는 그들의 앞에 네가 네 허리를 펴서 땅 같게, 거리 같게 하였느니라 하시니라
But I will put it into the hand of them that afflict thee; which have said to thy soul , Bow down , that we may go over : and thou hast laid thy body as the ground , and as the street , to them that went over .

【사51:1 JFB】사51:1-23. Encouragement to the Faithful Remnant of Israel to Trust in God for Deliverance, Both from Their Long Babylonian Exile, and from Their Present Dispersion.
1. me—the God of your fathers.
ye … follow after righteousness—the godly portion of the nation; 사51:7 shows this (잠15:9; 딤전6:11). "Ye follow righteousness," seek it therefore from Me, who "bring it near," and that a righteousness "not about to be abolished" (사51:6, 7); look to Abraham, your father (사51:2), as a sample of how righteousness before Me is to be obtained; I, the same God who blessed him, will bless you at last (사51:3); therefore trust in Me, and fear not man's opposition (사51:7, 8, 12, 13). The mistake of the Jews, heretofore, has been, not in that they "followed after righteousness," but in that they followed it "by the works of the law," instead of "by faith," as Abraham did (롬9:31, 32; 10:3, 4; 4:2-5).
hole of … pit—The idea is not, as it is often quoted, the inculcation of humility, by reminding men of the fallen state from which they have been taken, but that as Abraham, the quarry, as it were (compare 사48:1), whence their nation was hewn, had been called out of a strange land to the inheritance of Canaan, and blessed by God, the same God is able to deliver and restore them also (compare 마3:9).
【사51:1 CWC】[THE MESSIAH REVEALED]
The thirty-two chapters deal particularly with the Person and work of the Messiah. Isaiah has sometimes been called "the evangelical prophet" because of the large space he gives to that subject -- a circumstance the more notable because of the silence concerning it since Moses. The explanation of this silence is hinted at in the lesson on the introduction to the prophets.
In chapter 49, the Messiah speaks of Himself and the failure of His mission in His rejection by His nation (vv. 1-4). This rejection works blessing to the Gentiles (vv. 5, 6) compare Romans 11). Ultimately Israel shall be brought to Him and indeed the whole earth (see the remainder of the chapter). Zion, i. e., Israel, may doubt this (v. 14), but is made assured of it in what follows.
Chapter 50 is connected with the preceding verses 1-3 referring to Zion's restoration. But at verse 4 the Messiah bears witness to Himself again. His obedience, suffering and triumph down to the end of the chapter.
These verses furnish rich material for a Bible reading or expository discourse on "The Training of Jesus." (1). His Teacher: "The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned"; (2), the object of His teaching: "That I should know how to speak a word in season," &c.; (3), the method of its impartations: "He wakeneth morning by morning"; (4), the spirit of the pupil: "I was not rebellious," &c.; (5), the encouragement He receives: "The Lord God will help me"; (6), the counsel He offers to others: "Who is among you that feareth the Lord"? (7), the warning to the disobedient: "Behold all ye that kindle a fire."
In like manner 51 is linked to chapter 50, by the words of comfort to Zion which shall be brought to her through the Messiah's work on her behalf. Verses 9-11 are a prayer of faith of the faithful remnant which is answered in the remainder of that chapter and the following, down to and including verse 12.
Chapters 52:13-53:12 are a unit in their Messianic character. Christ's personal suffering and glorious triumph are depicted in the closing verses of chapter 52. His rejection by Israel in 53:1-6; His submission, deliverance and reward (vv. 7-12).
Chapter 54 exhibits the result of this in Israel's conversion, restoration and earthly glory in the millennium. Observe the divine oath that this shall be brought to pass (v. 9).
Chapter 55 is the offer of this salvation to Israel, and requires no comment.
Chapter 56 shows that when this offer is at last accepted and the salvation experienced by Israel, it will mean similar blessing to the whole earth (vv. 1-8).
The rest of this chapter, and nearly the whole of the following one, describe the sad condition of Israel at present, but especially at the end period under the Antichrist (57:9). The section concludes with the customary promises to the faithful (57:15-19).

사51:1-3 It is good for those privileged by the new birth, to consider that they were shapen in sin. This should cause low thoughts of ourselves, and high thoughts of Divine grace. It is the greatest comfort to be made serviceable to the glory of God. The more holiness men have, and the more good they do, the more gladness they have. Let us seriously reflect upon our guilt. To do so will tend to keep the heart humble, and the conscience awake and tender. They make Christ more precious to the soul, and give strength to our attempts and prayers for others.
사51:4-8 The gospel of Christ shall be preached and published. How shall we escape if we neglect it? There is no salvation without righteousness. The soul shall, as to this world, vanish like smoke, and the body be thrown by like a worn-out garment. But those whose happiness is in Christ's righteousness and salvation, will have the comfort of it when time and days shall be no more. Clouds darken the sun, but do not stop its course. The believer will enjoy his portion, while revilers of Christ are in darkness
사51:9-16 The people whom Christ has redeemed with his blood, as well as by his power, will obtain joyful deliverance from every enemy. He that designs such joy for us at last, will he not work such deliverance in the mean time, as our cases require? In this world of changes, it is a short step from joy to sorrow, but in that world, sorrow shall never come in view. They prayed for the display of God's power; he answers them with consolations of his grace. Did we dread to sin against God, we should not fear the frowns of men. Happy is the man that fears God always. And Christ's church shall enjoy security by the power and providence of the Almighty.
사51:17-23 God calls upon his people to mind the things that belong to their everlasting peace. Jerusalem had provoked God, and was made to taste the bitter fruits. Those who should have been her comforters, were their own tormentors. They have no patience by which to keep possesion of their own souls, nor any confidence in God's promise, by which to keep possession of its comfort. Thou art drunken, not as formerly, with the intoxicating cup of Babylon's idolatries, but with the cup of affliction. Know, then, the cause of God's people may for a time seem as lost, but God will protect it, by convincing the conscience, or confounding the projects, of those that strive against it. The oppressors required souls to be subjected to them, that every man should believe and worship as they would have them. But all they could gain by violence was, that people were brought to outward hypocritical conformity, for consciences cannot be forced.
【사51:2 JFB】2. alone—translate, "I called him when he was but one" (겔33:24). The argument is: the same God who had so blessed "one" individual, as to become a mighty nation (창12:1; 22:7), can also increase and bless the small remnant of Israel, both that left in the Babylonish captivity, and that left in the present and latter days (Z전14:2); "the residue" (사13:8, 9).

the garden of the Lord—restoration of the primeval paradise (창2:8; 겔28:13; 계2:7).
melody—Hebrew, "psalm." God's praises shall again be heard.
【사51:4 JFB】4. my people—the Jews. This reading is better than that of Gesenius: "O peoples … nations," namely, the Gentiles. The Jews are called on to hear and rejoice in the extension of the true religion to the nations; for, at the first preaching of the Gospel, as in the final age to come, it was from Jerusalem that the gospel law was, and is, to go forth (사2:3).
law … judgment—the gospel dispensation and institutions (사42:1, "judgment").
make … to rest—establish firmly; found.
light, &c.—(사42:6).
【사51:5 JFB】5. righteousness … near—that is, faithful fulfilment of the promised deliverance, answering to "salvation" in the parallel clause (사46:13; 56:1; 롬10:8, 9). Ye follow after "righteousness"; seek it therefore, from Me, and you will not have far to go for it (사51:1).
arms—put for Himself; I by My might.
judge—(사2:3, 4; 시98:9).
isles, &c.—(사60:9).
arm—(롬1:16), "the power of God unto (the Gentiles as well as the Jews) salvation."

vanish away—literally, "shall be torn asunder," as a garment [Maurer]; which accords with the context.
in like manner—But Gesenius, "Like a gnat"; like the smallest and vilest insect. Jerome translates, as English Version, and infers that "in like manner" as man, the heavens (that is, the sky) and earth are not to be annihilated, but changed for the better (사65:17).
righteousness—My faithfully fulfilled promise (see on 사51:5).

dragon—Hebrew, tannin. The crocodile, an emblem of Egypt, as represented on coins struck after the conquest of Egypt by Augustus; or rather here, "its king," Pharaoh (see on 사27:1; 시74:13, 14; 겔32:2, Margin;겔29:3).

Art not Thou the same Almighty power that … ? dried the sea—the Red Sea (사43:16; 출14:21).

Therefore—assurance of faith; or else the answer of Jehovah corresponding to their prayer. As surely as God redeemed Israel out of Egypt, He shall redeem them from Babylon, both the literal in the age following, and mystical in the last ages (계18:20, 21). singing—image from the custom of singing on a journey when a caravan is passing along the extended plains in the East.

Secondarily, and antitypically, the mystical Babylon, the last enemy of Israel and the Church, in which they have long suffered, but from which they are to be gloriously delivered.
pit—such as were many of the ancient dungeons (compare 렘38:6, 11, 13; 창37:20).
nor … bread … fail—(사33:16; 렘37:21).
【사51:15 JFB】15. divided … sea—the Red Sea. The same Hebrew word as "make to rest" (사51:4). Rather, "that terrify the sea," that is, restrain it by My rebuke, "when its waves roar" [Gesenius]. The Hebrew favors Maurer, "that terrify the sea so that the waves roar." The sense favors Gesenius (렘5:22; 31:35), or English Version (사51:9, 10, which favors the special reference to the exodus from Egypt).
【사51:16 JFB】16. Addressed to Israel, embodied in "the servant of Jehovah" (사42:1), Messiah, its ideal and representative Head, through whom the elect remnant is to be restored.
put my words in thy mouth—true of Israel, the depository of true religion, but fully realized only in Israel's Head and antitype, Messiah (사49:2; 50:4, 5; 59:21; 신18:18; 요3:34).
covered … in … shadow of … hand—protected thee (see on 사49:2).
plant—rather, "fix" as a tabernacle; so it ought to be rendered (단11:45). The "new creation," now going on in the spiritual world by the Gospel (엡2:10), and hereafter to be extended to the visible world, is meant (사65:17; 66:22; compare 사13:13; 벧후3:10-13).
Zion—Its restoration is a leading part in the new creation to come (사65:17, 19).
【사51:17 JFB】17. Awake, awake, stand up, O Jerusalem, &c.—(사52:1).
drunk—Jehovah's wrath is compared to an intoxicating draught because it confounds the sufferer under it, and makes him fall (욥21:20; 시60:3; 75:8; 렘25:15, 16; 49:12; Z전12:2; 계14:10); ("poured out without mixture"; rather, "the pure wine juice mixed with intoxicating drugs").
of trembling—which produced trembling or intoxication.
wrung … out—drained the last drop out; the dregs were the sediments from various substances, as honey, dates, and drugs, put into the wine to increase the strength and sweetness.
【사51:18 JFB】18. Following up the image in 사51:17, intoxicated and confused by the cup of God's anger, she has none to guide her in her helpless state; she has not yet awakened out of the sleep caused by that draught. This cannot apply to the Babylonish captivity; for in it they had Ezekiel and Daniel, Ezra and Nehemiah, as "guides," and soon awoke out of that sleep; but it applies to the Jews now, and will be still more applicable in their coming oppression by Antichrist.
【사51:19 JFB】19. two—classes of evils, for he enumerates four, namely, desolation and destruction to the land and state; famine and the sword to the people.
who shall be sorry for thee—so as to give thee effectual relief: as the parallel clause, "By whom shall I comfort thee?" shows (애2:11-13).
【사51:20 JFB】20. head of all … streets—(애2:19; 4:1).
wild bull—rather, "oryx" [Jerome], or gazelle [Gesenius], or wild goat [Bochart]; commonly in the East taken in a net, of a wide sweep, into which the beasts were hunted together. The streets of cities in the East often have gates, which are closed at night; a person wishing to escape would be stopped by them and caught, as a wild animal in a net.

no more drink it—(사54:7-9). This cannot apply to Israel after the return from Babylon, but only to them after their final restoration.
