■ 예레미야 7장
1. 여호와께로서 예레미야에게 말씀이 임하니라 가라사대
The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord , saying ,

Stand in the gate of the Lord’s house , and proclaim there this word , and say , Hear the word of the Lord , all ye of Judah , that enter in at these gates to worship the Lord .
3. 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님이 이같이 말씀하시되 너희 길과 행위를 바르게 하라 그리하면 내가 너희로 이곳에 거하게 하리라
Thus saith the Lord of hosts , the God of Israel , Amend your ways and your doings , and I will cause you to dwell in this place .
4. 너희는 이것이 여호와의 전이라, 여호와의 전이라, 여호와의 전이라 하는 거짓말을 믿지 말라
Trust ye not in lying words , saying , The temple of the Lord , The temple of the Lord , The temple of the Lord , are these.
5. 너희가 만일 길과 행위를 참으로 바르게 하여 이웃들 사이에 공의를 행하며
For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings ; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour ;
6. 이방인과 고아와 과부를 압제하지 말며 무죄한 자의 피를 이곳에서 흘리지 아니하며 다른 신들을 좇아 스스로 해하지 아니하면
If ye oppress not the stranger , the fatherless , and the widow , and shed not innocent blood in this place , neither walk after other gods to your hurt :
7. 내가 너희를 이곳에 거하게 하리니 곧 너희 조상에게 영원 무궁히 준 이 땅에니라
Then will I cause you to dwell in this place , in the land that I gave to your fathers , for ever and ever .
8. 너희가 무익한 거짓말을 의뢰하는도다
Behold, ye trust in lying words , that cannot profit .
9. 너희가 도적질하며 살인하며 간음하며 거짓 맹세하며 바알에게 분향하며 너희의 알지 못하는 다른 신들을 좇으면서
Will ye steal , murder , and commit adultery , and swear falsely , and burn incense unto Baal , and walk after other gods whom ye know not;
10. 내 이름으로 일컬음을 받는 이 집에 들어와서 내 앞에 서서 말하기를 우리가 구원을 얻었나이다 하느냐 이는 이 모든 가증한 일을 행하려 함이로다
And come and stand before me in this house , which is called by my name , and say , We are delivered to do all these abominations ?

Is this house , which is called by my name , become a den of robbers in your eyes ? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the Lord .
12. 너희는 내가 처음으로 내 이름을 둔 처소 실로에 가서 내 백성 이스라엘의 악을 인하여 내가 어떻게 행한 것을 보라
But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh , where I set my name at the first , and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel .
13. 나 여호와가 말하노라 이제 너희가 그 모든 일을 행하였으며 내가 너희에게 말하되 새벽부터 부지런히 말하여도 듣지 아니하였고 너희를 불러도 대답지 아니하였느니라
And now, because ye have done all these works , saith the Lord , and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking , but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;
14. 그러므로 내가 실로에 행함 같이 너희가 의뢰하는 바 내 이름으로 일컬음을 받는 이 집 곧 너희와 너희 열조에게 준 이곳에 행하겠고
Therefore will I do unto this house , which is called by my name , wherein ye trust , and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers , as I have done to Shiloh .
15. 내가 너희 모든 형제 곧 에브라임 온 자손을 쫓아냄 같이 내 앞에서 너희를 쫓아내리라 하셨다 할지니라
And I will cast you out of my sight , as I have cast out all your brethren , even the whole seed of Ephraim .
16. 그런즉 너는 이 백성을 위하여 기도하지 말라 그들을 위하여 부르짖어 구하지 말라 내게 간구하지 말라 내가 너를 듣지 아니하리라
Therefore pray not thou for this people , neither lift up cry nor prayer for them , neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem ?
18. 자식들은 나무를 줍고 아비들은 불을 피우며 부녀들은 가루를 반죽하여 하늘 황후를 위하여 과자를 만들며 그들이 또 다른 신들에게 전제를 부음으로 나의 노를 격동하느니라
The children gather wood , and the fathers kindle the fire , and the women knead their dough , to make cakes to the queen of heaven , and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods , that they may provoke me to anger .
19. 나 여호와가 말하노라 그들이 나를 격노케 함이냐 어찌 자기 얼굴에 수욕을 자취함이 아니냐
Do they provoke me to anger ? saith the Lord : do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces ?
20. 그러므로 주 여호와 내가 이같이 말하노라 보라 나의 진노와 분한을 이곳에 붓되 사람과 짐승과 들나무와 땅의 소산에 부으리니 불 같이 살라지고 꺼지지 아니하리라 하시니라
Therefore thus saith the Lord God ; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place , upon man , and upon beast , and upon the trees of the field , and upon the fruit of the ground ; and it shall burn , and shall not be quenched .
21. 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님이 이같이 말씀하시되 너희 희생에 번제물을 아울러 그 고기를 먹으라
Thus saith the Lord of hosts , the God of Israel ; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices , and eat flesh .
22. 대저 내가 너희 열조를 애굽 땅에서 인도하여 낸 날에 번제나 희생에 대하여 말하지 아니하며 명하지 아니하고
For I spake not unto your fathers , nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt , concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices :
23. 오직 내가 이것으로 그들에게 명하여 이르기를 너희는 내 목소리를 들으라 그리하면 나는 너희 하나님이 되겠고 너희는 내 백성이 되리라 너희는 나의 명한 모든 길로 행하라 그리하면 복을 받으리라 하였으나
But this thing commanded I them, saying , Obey my voice , and I will be your God , and ye shall be my people : and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.
24. 그들이 청종치 아니하며 귀를 기울이지도 아니하고 자기의 악한 마음의 꾀와 강퍅한 대로 행하여 그 등을 내게로 향하고 그 얼굴을 향치 아니하였으며
But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear , but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart , and went backward , and not forward .
25. 너희 열조가 애굽 땅에서 나온 날부터 오늘까지 내가 내 종 선지자들을 너희에게 보내었으되 부지런히 보내었으나
Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets , daily rising up early and sending them:
26. 너희가 나를 청종치 아니하며 귀를 기울이지 아니하고 목을 굳게 하여 너희 열조보다 악을 더 행하였느니라
Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear , but hardened their neck : they did worse than their fathers .
27. 네가 그들에게 이 모든 말을 할지라도 그들이 너를 청종치 아니할 것이요 네가 그들을 불러도 그들이 네게 대답지 아니하리니
Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.
28. 너는 그들에게 말하기를 너희는 너희 하나님 여호와의 목소리를 청종치 아니하며 교훈을 받지 아니하는 국민이라 진실이 없어져 너희 입에서 끊어졌다 할지니라
But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the Lord their God , nor receiveth correction : truth is perished , and is cut off from their mouth .
29. 예루살렘아 너의 머리털을 베어 버리고 자산 위에서 호곡할지어다 여호와께서 그 노하신 바 이 세대를 끊어버리셨음이니라
Cut off thine hair , O Jerusalem, and cast it away , and take up a lamentation on high places ; for the Lord hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath .
30. 여호와께서 말씀하시되 유다 자손이 나의 목전에 악을 행하여 내이름으로 일컬음을 받는 집에 그들의 가증한 것을 두어 집을 더럽혔으며
For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight , saith the Lord : they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name , to pollute it.
31. 힌놈의 아들 골짜기에 도벳 사당을 건축하고 그 자녀를 불에 살랐나니 내가 명하지 아니하였고 내 마음에 생각지도 아니한 일이니라
And they have built the high places of Tophet , which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom , to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire ; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart .
32. 그러므로 나 여호와가 말하노라 날이 이르면 이곳을 도벳이라 하거나 힌놈의 아들의 골짜기라 칭하지 아니하고 살륙의 골짜기라 칭하리니 매장할 자리가 없도록 도벳에 장사함을 인함이니라
Therefore, behold, the days come , saith the Lord , that it shall no more be called Tophet , nor the valley of the son of Hinnom , but the valley of slaughter : for they shall bury in Tophet , till there be no place .
33. 이 백성의 시체가 공중의 새와 땅 짐승의 밥이 될 것이나 그것을 쫓을 자가 없을 것이라
And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven , and for the beasts of the earth ; and none shall fray them away .
34. 그 때에 내가 유다 성읍들과 예루살렘 거리에 기뻐하는 소리, 즐기는 소리, 신랑의 소리, 신부의 소리가 끊쳐지게 하리니 땅이 황폐하리라
Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah , and from the streets of Jerusalem , the voice of mirth , and the voice of gladness , the voice of the bridegroom , and the voice of the bride : for the land shall be desolate .

【렘7:1 JFB】렘7:1-34. The Seventh through Ninth Chapters. Delivered in the Beginning of Jehoiakim's Reign, on the Occasion of Some Public Festival.
The prophet stood at the gate of the temple in order that the multitudes from the country might hear him. His life was threatened, it appears from 렘26:1-9, for this prophecy, denouncing the fate of Shiloh as about to befall the temple at Jerusalem. The prophecy given in detail here is summarily referred to there. After Josiah's death the nation relapsed into idolatry through Jehoiakim's bad influence; the worship of Jehovah was, however, combined with it (렘7:4, 10).
【렘7:1 CWC】[PERSECUTED IN HIS HOME TOWN]
The length of this lesson may alarm, but preparation for it only requires the reading of the chapters two or three times. One who has gone through Isaiah will soon catch the drift of the Spirit's teaching and be able to break up the chapters into separate discourses and the discourses into their various themes. The main object of the lesson is to dwell on the prophet's personal experience in his home town which is reached in the closing chapters.
It is thought that the discourses in this section were delivered prior to the finding of the law-book in 2 Kings, which explains their more moderate tone as compared with the later ones, but this is a feature not relevant to this work.
Note in chapter 2 the divine expostulation (vv. 1-13); the reminder of the divine goodness (vv. 14-22); the vain excuses made by the nation (vv. 23-28); and the lamentation of the Lord over its condition (v. 29-3:5).
In chapter 3, beginning afresh at verse 6, we have God's complaint against Judah for learning nothing from "her treacherous sister," i. e., from Israel's experience (vv. 6-11); this is followed by a plea to that same Israel (now scattered through the north country by Assyria), to return if she would, and mercy would be shown her. In this connection the promise for the future is set before her (vv. 12-17); Judah and Israel will be re-united then, and so on to chapter 4:1-2.
Chapter 4 and the following, indicate that a mere outward reformation is not sufficient to bring divine blessing. Judgment is coming from the north! "A lion out of his thicket!" "A stormwind!" The prophet laments.
In chapter 7 there is a call to repentance and a spiritual religion. In chapters 8 and 9 coming judgment is again announced.
The Treachery of Friends.
Coming to chapter 11:18, we see the beginnings of the persecution that farther on became so bitter against the prophet as to make him a striking type of the suffering Saviour. It takes its rise among his neighbors and kinfolk in Anathoth. At first he is unsuspicious, but God reveals the plot to him. They would kill him, destroying the tree to be rid of the fruit. He appeals to God, whose answer is in the closing verses of the chapter. Anathoth was to suffer, but not immediately.
In chapter 12 the prophet expresses his surprise at this in the spirit of Job, and that of Psalms 37 and 73. The divine comfort he receives is to be told that worse things will follow. His friend Josiah is now on the throne, but wait till he is gone and Jehoiakim and Zedekiah reign! Tie is now like a man running a race with men, but then it will be like running a race with horses! He is dwelling in a land of comparative peace now, but then he will be in "the swellings of Jordan."
To understand this keep the politics of the period in mind. Judah is turning to Egypt for help against Babylon, the Gentile nation now in great power. But the divine purpose is that she shall submit herself to the yoke of Babylon. The prophet is proclaiming this against a strong party in the nation that will not have it so. They consider him a pessimist, a traitor to his country who must be silenced. And silenced he would have been if it were not for God.

렘7:1-16 No observances, professions, or supposed revelations, will profit, if men do not amend their ways and their doings. None can claim an interest in free salvation, who allow themselves in the practice of known sin, or live in the neglect of known duty. They thought that the temple they profaned would be their protection. But all who continue in sin because grace has abounded, or that grace may abound, make Christ the minister of sin; and the cross of Christ, rightly understood, forms the most effectual remedy to such poisonous sentiments. The Son of God gave himself for our transgressions, to show the excellence of the Divine law, and the evil of sin. Never let us think we may do wickedness without suffering for it.
렘7:17-20 The Jews took pride in showing zeal for their idols. Let us learn to be earnest in the service of our God, even from this bad example. Let us think it an honour to be employed in any work for God. Let us be as diligent ourselves, and as careful to teach our children the truths of God, as many are to teach the mysteries of iniquity. The direct tendency of this sin is malice against God, but it will hurt themselves. And they shall find there is no escaping. God's wrath is fire unquenchable.
렘7:21-28 God shows that obedience was required of them. That which God commanded was, Hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord thy God. The promise is very encouraging. Let God's will be your rule, and his favour shall be your happiness. God was displeased with disobedience. We understand the gospel as little as the Jews understood the law, if we think that even the sacrifice of Christ lessens our obligation to obey.
렘7:29-34 In token both of sorrow and of slavery, Jerusalem must be degraded, and separated from God, as she had been separated to him. The heart is the place in which God has chosen to put his name; but if sin has the innermost and uppermost place there, we pollute the temple of the Lord. The destruction of Jerusalem appears here very terrible. The slain shall be many; they having made it the place of their sin. Evil pursues sinners, even after death. Those who will not, by the grace of God, be cured of vain mirth, shall, by the justice of God, be deprived of all mirth. How many ruin their health and property without complaining, when engaged in Satan's service! May we learn to relish holy joys, and to sit loose to all others though lawful.

【렘7:4 JFB】4. The Jews falsely thought that because their temple had been chosen by Jehovah as His peculiar dwelling, it could never be destroyed. Men think that ceremonial observances will supersede the need of holiness (사48:2; 미3:11). The triple repetition of "the temple of Jehovah" expresses the intense confidence of the Jews (see 렘22:29; 사6:3).
these—the temple buildings which the prophet points to with his finger (렘7:2).

These words are not to be connected with "we are delivered," but thus: "Is it with this design that ye come and stand before Me in this house," in order that having offered your worthless sacrifices ye may be taken into My favor and so do all these abominations (렘7:9) with impunity? In Eli's time God gave the ark, which had been at Shiloh, into the hands of the Philistines (렘26:6; 삼상4:10, 11; 시78:56-61). Shiloh was situated between Beth-el and Shechem in Ephraim.
at the first—implying that Shiloh exceeded the Jewish temple in antiquity. But God's favor is not tied down to localities (행7:44).
my people Israel—Israel was God's people, yet He spared it not when rebellious: neither will He spare Judah, now that it rebels, though heretofore it has been His people.

【렘7:18 JFB】18. children … fathers … women—Not merely isolated individuals practised idolatry; young and old, men and women, and whole families, contributed their joint efforts to promote it. Oh, that there were the same zeal for the worship of God as there is for error (렘44:17, 19; 19:13)!
cakes … queen of heaven—Cakes were made of honey, fine flour, &c., in a round flat shape to resemble the disc of the moon, to which they were offered. Others read as Margin, "the frame of heaven," that is, the planets generally; so the Septuagint here; but elsewhere the Septuagint translates, "queen of heaven." The Phœnicians called the moon Ashtoreth or Astarte: the wife of Baal or Moloch, the king of heaven. The male and female pair of deities symbolized the generative powers of nature; hence arose the introduction of prostitution in the worship. The Babylonians worshipped Ashtoreth as Mylitta, that is, generative. Our Monday, or Moon-day, indicates the former prevalence of moon worship (see on 사65:11).
that they may provoke me—implying design: in worshipping strange gods they seemed as if purposely to provoke Jehovah.

【렘7:20 JFB】20. beast … trees … ground—Why doth God vent His fury on these? On account of man, for whom these were created, that the sad spectacle may strike terror into him (롬8:20-22).

Put … burnt offerings unto … sacrifices … eat flesh—Add the former (which the law required to be wholly burnt) to the latter (which were burnt only in part), and "eat flesh" even off the holocausts or burnt offerings. As far as I am concerned, saith Jehovah, you may do with one and the other alike. I will have neither (사1:11; 호8:13; 암5:21, 22).
【렘7:22 JFB】22. Not contradicting the divine obligation of the legal sacrifices. But, "I did not require sacrifices, unless combined with moral obedience" (시50:8; 51:16, 17). The superior claim of the moral above the positive precepts of the law was marked by the ten commandments having been delivered first, and by the two tables of stone being deposited alone in the ark (신5:6). The negative in Hebrew often supplies the want of the comparative: not excluding the thing denied, but only implying the prior claim of the thing set in opposition to it (호6:6). "I will have mercy, and not sacrifice" (삼상15:22). Love to God is the supreme end, external observances only means towards that end. "The mere sacrifice was not so much what I commanded, as the sincere submission to My will gives to the sacrifice all its virtue" [Magee, Atonement, Note 57].
