■ 예레미야 43장

1. 예레미야가 모든 백성에게 그들의 하나님 여호와의 말씀 곧 그들의 하나님 여호와께서 자기를 보내사 그들에게 이르게 하신 이 모든 말씀을 다 말하매

  And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the Lord their God , for which the Lord their God had sent him to them, even all these words ,

 

2. 호사야의 아들 아사랴와 가레아의 아들 요하난과 및 모든 교만한 자가 예레미야에게 말하여 가로되 네가 거짓을 말하는도다 우리 하나님 여호와께서는 너희는 애굽에 거하려고 그리로 가지 말라고 너를 보내어 말하게 하지 아니하셨느니라

  Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah , and Johanan the son of Kareah , and all the proud men , saying unto Jeremiah , Thou speakest falsely : the Lord our God hath not sent thee to say , Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:

 

3. 이는 네리야의 아들 바룩이 너를 꼬드겨서 우리를 대적하여 갈대아인의 손에 붙여 죽이며 바벨론으로 잡아가게 하려 함이니라 하고

  But Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, for to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans , that they might put us to death , and carry us away captives into Babylon .

 

4. 이에 가레아의 아들 요하난과 모든 군대 장관과 모든 백성이 유다 땅에 거하라 하시는 여호와의 목소리를 청종치 아니하고

  So Johanan the son of Kareah , and all the captains of the forces , and all the people , obeyed not the voice of the Lord , to dwell in the land of Judah .

 

5. 가레아의 아들 요하난과 모든 군대장관이 유다의 남은 자 곧 쫓겨났던 열방 중에서 유다 땅에 거하려하여 돌아온 자

  But Johanan the son of Kareah , and all the captains of the forces , took all the remnant of Judah , that were returned from all nations , whither they had been driven , to dwell in the land of Judah ;

 

6. 곧 남자와 여자와 유아와 왕의 딸들과 시위대장 느부사라단이 사반의 손자 아히감의 아들 그다랴에게 넘겨 둔 모든 사람과 선지자 예레미야와 네리야의 아들 바룩을 영솔하고

  Even men , and women , and children , and the king’s daughters , and every person that Nebuzar–adan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan , and Jeremiah the prophet , and Baruch the son of Neriah .

 

7. 애굽 땅에 들어가 다바네스에 이르렀으니 그들이 여호와의 목소리를 청종치 아니함이 이러하였더라

  So they came into the land of Egypt : for they obeyed not the voice of the Lord : thus came they even to Tahpanhes .

 

8. 다바네스에서 여호와의 말씀이 예레미야에게 임하여 가라사대

  Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah in Tahpanhes , saying ,

 

9. 너는 유다 사람의 목전에서 네 손으로 큰 돌들을 가져다가 다바네스 바로의 집 어귀의 벽돌 깔린 곳에 진흙으로 감추고

  Take great stones in thine hand , and hide them in the clay in the brickkiln , which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes , in the sight of the men of Judah ;

 

10. 그들에게 이르기를 만군의 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님이 이같이 말씀하시되 보라 내가 내 종 바벨론 왕 느부갓네살을 불러오리니 그가 그 보좌를 내가 감추게 한 이 돌 위에 두고 또 그 화려한 장막을 그 위에 치리라

  And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts , the God of Israel ; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon , my servant , and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid ; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.

 

11. 그가 와서 애굽 땅을 치고 죽일 자는 죽이고 사로잡을 자는 사로잡고 칼로 칠 자는 칼로 칠 것이라

  And when he cometh , he shall smite the land of Egypt , and deliver such as are for death to death ; and such as are for captivity to captivity ; and such as are for the sword to the sword .

 

12. 내가 애굽 신들의 집에 불을 놓을 것인즉 느부갓네살이 그들을 불사르며 그들을 사로잡을 것이요 목자가 그 몸에 옷을 두름 같이 애굽 땅을 자기 몸에 두르고 평안히 그곳을 떠날 것이며

  And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt ; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives : and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt , as a shepherd putteth on his garment ; and he shall go forth from thence in peace .

 

13. 그가 또 애굽 땅 벧세메스의 주상들을 깨뜨리고 애굽 신들의 집을 불사르리라 하셨다 할지니라

  He shall break also the images of Beth–shemesh , that is in the land of Egypt ; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire .

【렘43:1 JFB】렘43:1-13. The Jews Carry Jeremiah and Baruch into Egypt. Jeremiah Foretells by a Type the Conquest of Egypt by Nebuchadnezzar, and the Fate of the Fugitives.

 

【렘43:1 CWC】Chapter 40 opens with an account of Nebuchadnezzar's kindness to Jeremiah, inspired by what he had known of the latter's advice to his countrymen (vv. 1-4). Jeremiah had been the friend of Babylon, but not necessarily the enemy of his own nation. His patriotism was unquestioned, but the highest expression of his patriotism was his counsel to Judah to obey the will of God and submit to Babylon.
Jeremiah's choice of action is in verses five and six. The new governor is loyal and things promise well (vv. 7-12). But the Ammonites see an opportunity to get even with their old enemy and obtain control of their land through the treachery of an apostate Jew (vv. 13-16).
Chapter 41 narrates how the plot is carried out (vv. 1-10), and the resultant fear on the part of the people (vv. 11-18). This fear leads them to plan an exodus from Judah into Egypt.
Chapter 42 shows them consulting with the prophet before carrying out this plan, albeit they are determined to do it.
Chapter 43 is a prophecy of Egypt's conquest by Babylon (vv. 8-13) delivered after Jeremiah's arrival there (vv. 4-7). Today the place indicated in verse nine is marked by a ruined column.
Jeremiah's Last Message.
The contents of chapter 44 may be regarded as the continuation of the preceding, though how long after the entrance into Egypt the prophecy was uttered is impossible to say. Some have surmised twenty-five years. Certainly the Jews had spread themselves considerably (v. 1). The prophecy opens with a retrospect (vv. 2-6); but present conditions are no improvement over the past (vv. 7-10); only doom can await them (vv. 11-14). Opposition is aroused as of old (vv. 15-19), showing the former infatuation (v. 17). They had forgotten that God gave them these good things even when they were rebelling against him (Hosea Chap. 11). So men still trace misfortune to everything but the true cause, which is sin. Notice the prominence of women here, on whose regeneration that of society still depends. The prophecy concludes with the prediction of an awful judgment, the truth of which will be established by an appeal to history (vv. 20-30).
Baruch Counselled.
Chapter 45 is a word to Baruch, the prophet's amanuensis and friend, spoken doubtless at an earlier period than its position indicates, and some would say just after the events of chapter 36. Weighed down by responsibility and dismayed at the aspect of things, he is seeking better things for himself -- an easier lot dare we say? At all events he is warned of his moral danger at the same time that he is promised physical deliverance at least, in the dire hour coming on the land (v. 5). He accompanied Jeremiah into Egypt, and to his labors doubtless, we trace the copies of these prophecies which have circulated in that country, and given rise to a Greek version of them (the Septuagint so-called).

렘43:1-7 Only by pride comes contention, both with God and man. They preferred their own wisdom to the revealed will of God. Men deny the Scriptures to be the word of God, because they are resolved not to conform themselves to Scripture rules. When men will persist in sin, they charge the best actions to bad motives. These Jews deserted their own land, and threw themselves out of God's protection. It is the folly of men, that they often ruin themselves by wrong endeavours to mend their situation.
 
렘43:8-13 God can find his people wherever they are. The Spirit of prophecy was not confined to the land of Israel. It is foretold that Nebuchadnezzar should destroy and carry into captivity many of the Egyptians. Thus God makes one wicked man, or wicked nation, a scourge and plague to another. He will punish those who deceive his professing people, or tempt them to rebellion.

proud—Pride is the parent of disobedience and contempt of God.

 

【렘43:3 JFB】3. Baruch—He being the younger spake out the revelations which he received from Jeremiah more vehemently. From this cause, and from their knowing that he was in favor with the Chaldeans, arose their suspicion of him. Their perverse fickleness was astonishing. In the forty-second chapter they acknowledged the trustworthiness of Jeremiah, of which they had for so long so many proofs; yet here they accuse him of a lie. The mind of the unregenerate man is full of deceits.

【렘43:7 JFB】7. Tahpanhes—(See on 렘2:16); Daphne on the Tanitic branch of the Nile, near Pelusium. They naturally came to it first, being on the frontier of Egypt, towards Palestine.

 

【렘43:9 JFB】9. stones—to be laid as the foundation beneath Nebuchadnezzar's throne (렘43:10).
clay—mortar.
brick-kiln—Bricks in that hot country are generally dried in the sun, not burned. The palace of Pharaoh was being built or repaired at this time; hence arose the mortar and brick-kiln at the entry. Of the same materials as that of which Pharaoh's house was built, the substructure of Nebuchadnezzar's throne should be constructed. By a visible symbol implying that the throne of the latter shall be raised on the downfall of the former. Egypt at that time contended with Babylon for the empire of the East.

 

【렘43:10 JFB】10. my servant—God often makes one wicked man or nation a scourge to another (겔29:18, 19, 20).
royal pavilion—the rich tapestry (literally, "ornament") which hung round the throne from above.

 

【렘43:11 JFB】11. such as are for death to death—that is, the deadly plague. Some he shall cause to die by the plague arising from insufficient or bad food; others, by the sword; others he shall lead captive, according as God shall order it (see on 렘15:2).

 

【렘43:12 JFB】12. houses of … gods—He shall not spare even the temple, such will be His fury. A reproof to the Jews that they betook themselves to Egypt, a land whose own safety depended on helpless idols.
burn … carry … captives—burn the Egyptian idols of wood, carry to Babylon those of gold and other metals.
array himself with the land, &c.—사49:18 has the same metaphor.
as a shepherd, &c.—He shall become master of Egypt as speedily and easily as a shepherd, about to pass on with his flock to another place, puts on his garment.
