Thus saith the Lord , the God of Israel ; Go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah , and tell him, Thus saith the Lord ; Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon , and he shall burn it with fire :

And thou shalt not escape out of his hand , but shalt surely be taken , and delivered into his hand ; and thine eyes shall behold the eyes of the king of Babylon , and he shall speak with thee mouth to mouth , and thou shalt go to Babylon .

Yet hear the word of the Lord , O Zedekiah king of Judah ; Thus saith the Lord of thee, Thou shalt not die by the sword :
5. 평안히 죽을 것이며 사람이 너보다 먼저 있은 네 열조 선왕에게 분향하던 일례로 네게 분향하며 너를 위하여 애통하기를 슬프다 주여 하리니 이는 내가 말하였음이니라 여호와의 말이니라
But thou shalt die in peace : and with the burnings of thy fathers , the former kings which were before thee, so shall they burn odours for thee; and they will lament thee, saying, Ah lord ! for I have pronounced the word , saith the Lord .
6. 선지자 예레미야가 이 모든 말씀을 예루살렘에서 유다 왕 시드기야에게 고하니라
Then Jeremiah the prophet spake all these words unto Zedekiah king of Judah in Jerusalem ,
7. 때에 바벨론 왕의 군대가 예루살렘과 유다의 남은 모든 성을 쳤으니 곧 라기스와 아세가라 유다의 견고한 성읍 중에 이것들만 남았음이더라
When the king of Babylon’s army fought against Jerusalem , and against all the cities of Judah that were left , against Lachish , and against Azekah : for these defenced cities remained of the cities of Judah .
8. 시드기야 왕이 예루살렘에 있는 모든 백성과 언약하고 자유를 선언한 후에 여호와께로서 말씀이 예레미야에게 임하니라
This is the word that came unto Jeremiah from the Lord , after that the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people which were at Jerusalem , to proclaim liberty unto them;
9. 그 언약은 곧 사람으로 각기 히브리 남녀 노비를 놓아 자유케 하고 그 동족 유다인으로 종을 삼지 못하게 한 것이라
That every man should let his manservant , and every man his maidservant , being an Hebrew or an Hebrewess , go free ; that none should serve himself of them, to wit, of a Jew his brother .
10. 이 언약에 참가한 방백들과 모든 백성이 각기 노비를 자유케하고 다시는 종을 삼지 말라 함을 듣고 순복하여 놓았더니
Now when all the princes , and all the people , which had entered into the covenant , heard that every one should let his manservant , and every one his maidservant , go free , that none should serve themselves of them any more, then they obeyed , and let them go .
11. 후에 그들의 뜻이 변하여 자유케 하였던 노비를 끌어다가 다시 복종시켜 노비를 삼았더라
But afterward they turned , and caused the servants and the handmaids , whom they had let go free , to return , and brought them into subjection for servants and for handmaids .
12. 그러므로 여호와의 말씀이 여호와께로서 예레미야에게 임하니라 가라사대
Therefore the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah from the Lord , saying ,
13. 이스라엘 하나님 나 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 내가 너희 선조를 애굽 땅 종 되었던 집에서 인도하여 낼 때에 그들과 언약을 세워 이르기를
Thus saith the Lord , the God of Israel ; I made a covenant with your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt , out of the house of bondmen , saying ,
14. 너희 형제 히브리 사람이 네게 팔렸거든 칠 년 만에 너희는 각기 놓으라 그가 육 년을 너를 섬겼은즉 그를 놓아 자유케 할지라 하였으나 너희 선조가 나를 듣지 아니하며 귀를 기울이지도 아니하였느니라
At the end of seven years let ye go every man his brother an Hebrew , which hath been sold unto thee; and when he hath served thee six years , thou shalt let him go free from thee: but your fathers hearkened not unto me, neither inclined their ear .
15. 그러나 너희는 이제 돌이켜 내 목전에 정당히 행하여 각기 이웃에게 자유를 선언하되 내 이름으로 일컬음을 받는 집에서 내 앞에서 언약을 세웠거늘
And ye were now turned , and had done right in my sight , in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour ; and ye had made a covenant before me in the house which is called by my name :
16. 너희가 뜻을 변하여 내 이름을 더럽히고 각기 놓아 그들의 마음대로 자유케 하였던 노비를 끌어다가 다시 너희에게 복종시켜서 너희 노비를 삼았도다
But ye turned and polluted my name , and caused every man his servant , and every man his handmaid , whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure , to return , and brought them into subjection , to be unto you for servants and for handmaids .
17. 그러므로 나 여호와가 이같이 말하노라 너희가 나를 듣지 아니하고 각기 형제와 이웃에게 자유를 선언한 것을 실행치 아니하였은즉 내가 너희에게 자유를 선언하여 너희를 칼과 염병과 기근에 붙이리라 나 여호와의 말이니라 내가 너희를 세계 열방 중에 흩어지게 할 것이며
Therefore thus saith the Lord ; Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty , every one to his brother , and every man to his neighbour : behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the Lord , to the sword , to the pestilence , and to the famine ; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth .
18. 송아지를 둘에 쪼개고 그 두 사이로 지나서 내 앞에 언약을 세우고 그 말을 실행치 아니하여 내 언약을 범한 너희를
And I will give the men that have transgressed my covenant , which have not performed the words of the covenant which they had made before me, when they cut the calf in twain , and passed between the parts thereof,
19. 곧 쪼갠 송아지 사이로 지난 유다 방백들과 예루살렘 백성들과 환관들과 제사장들과 이 땅 모든 백성을
The princes of Judah , and the princes of Jerusalem , the eunuchs , and the priests , and all the people of the land , which passed between the parts of the calf ;
20. 내가 너희 원수의 손과 너희 생명을 찾는 자의 손에 붙이리니 너희 시체가 공중의 새들과 땅 짐승의 식물이 될 것이며
I will even give them into the hand of their enemies , and into the hand of them that seek their life : and their dead bodies shall be for meat unto the fowls of the heaven , and to the beasts of the earth .
21. 또 내가 유다 왕 시드기야와 그 방백들을 그 원수의 손과 그 생명을 찾는 자의 손과 너희에게서 떠나간 바벨론 왕의 군대의 손에 붙이리라
And Zedekiah king of Judah and his princes will I give into the hand of their enemies , and into the hand of them that seek their life , and into the hand of the king of Babylon’s army , which are gone up from you.
22. 나 여호와가 말하노라 보라 내가 그들에게 명하여 이 성에 다시 오게 하리니 그들이 이 성을 쳐서 취하여 불사를 것이라 내가 유다 성읍들로 황무하여 거민이 없게 하리라
Behold, I will command , saith the Lord , and cause them to return to this city ; and they shall fight against it, and take it, and burn it with fire : and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation without an inhabitant .

【렘34:1 JFB】렘34:1-22. Captivity of Zedekiah and the People Foretold for Their Disobedience and Perfidy.
The prophecy (렘34:1-7) as to Zedekiah is an amplification of that in 렘32:1-5, in consequence of which Jeremiah was then shut up in the court of the prison. The prophecy (렘34:8-22) refers to the Jews, who, afraid of the capture of the city, had, in obedience to the law, granted freedom to their servants at the end of seven years, but on the intermission of the siege forced them back into bondage.
1. Jerusalem and … all the cities thereof—(see on 렘19:15). It was amazing blindness in the king, that, in such a desperate position, he should reject admonition.
【렘34:1 CWC】[MESSAGES IN ZEDEKIAH'S REIGN -- SECOND SERIES]
In some respects the most important chapter here is the first, which deals with Babylon's supremacy, and reveals the beginning of "the times of the Gentiles," or "the fullness of the Gentiles" (롬11:25). The term refers to the period when Israel, because of her disobedience to God, has forfeited her place of power in the earth and is scattered among the nations. It begins when God transfers this power to the Gentiles as represented by Babylon, and continues until Christ comes a second time for the deliverance of Israel from the Gentiles at the end of this age. The occasion of the transfer is set forth here.
Babylon is increasing in power, and threatening the smaller nations standing in the way of her mastery of the Mediterranean. These by their ambassadors are now in conclave in Jerusalem, presided over by Zedekiah, meditating the means of defense or opposition to the common enemy. God seizes the occasion to send the prophet to them with a revelation of His will in the premises (vv. 1-11).
Verse one speaks of it as in Jehoiakim's reign, but the context shows that it is an error.
With what symbolic action does the prophet introduce his message (vv. 2, 3)? What nations are represented in the conclave? What is the divine declaration he makes (vv. 6, 7)? What penalty is attached to the failure to comply with God's will (v. 8)? What promise to submission (v. 11)? What special message is vouchsafed to the king of Judah (w. 12-15)? What other classes in Judah are addressed (vv. 16-18)?
When God calls Nebuchadnezzar his "servant" (v. 6), it does not mean that the king knows and consciously desires to please Him, but only that, like the king of Assyria before him, he is being used for the time being to execute God's purposes of chastisement on His people.
Chapter 28 gives a fresh illustration of the persecution Jeremiah endured from the enemies of the truth. Read carefully it will explain itself. May its warnings and encouragements not be lost upon us.
Chapter 29 recalls the earlier one on the good and bad figs. To the "good figs" the prophet sends this letter (v. 1), that is to the earlier captives (v. 2), who are to return after seventy years as the others are not (vv. 10-14). To what evil teaching were they exposed in the land of their captivity (vv. 8, 9, 15-19)? What were the names of the false prophets (vv. 21-23)? What man tried to stir up evil against Jeremiah by a letter (vv. 24-29)? What punishment would befall him (vv. 30-32)?
Chapters 30 and 31 speak again of the future redemption of Israel. What command comes to the prophet touching this testimony, and why (30:1-3)? What language shows that the end of the age is in mind (vv. 7-9)? Have these words yet been fulfilled in Israel a history? Compare also verses 18-24, and indeed the whole of the next chapter.
Chapters 32 and 3.3 cover the same ground as the preceding chapters, except that they are more picturesque because of the real estate transaction they record. What was the period, and what was the prophet enduring at the time, and why (32:1-5)? What is he called upon to do (vv. 6-8)? What care is taken about this purchase (vv. 9-15)? What shows his surprise and ignorance of its meaning (vv. 16-25)? What question does God put to the prophet (vv. 26, 27)? Does this demand on the prophet to purchase the field indicate any change of God's mind concerning Judah and Babylon (28-35)? What does it indicate for the future, however (vv. 36-44)? Point out at least ten reasons to show that all of these last verses point to the future. The theme is continued into the next chapter, and the Messiah once more referred to as the cause of the restoration and blessing (vv. 15, 16). What name is given Him? And what corresponding name is to be given Judah in that day?
Chapter 34 is self-explanatory. A special offense on the part of the leaders brings a renewal of the prophecy of judgment.

렘34:1-7 Zedekiah is told that the city shall be taken, and that he shall die a captive, but he shall die a natural death. It is better to live and die penitent in a prison, than to live and die impenitent in a palace.
렘34:8-22 A Jew should not be held in servitude above seven years. This law they and their fathers had broken. And when there was some hope that the siege was raised, they forced the servants they had released into their services again. Those who think to cheat God by dissembled repentance and partial reformation, put the greatest cheat upon their own souls. This shows that liberty to sin, is really only liberty to have the sorest judgments. It is just with God to disappoint expectations of mercy, when we disappoint the expectations of duty. And when reformation springs only from terror, it is seldom lasting. Solemn vows thus entered into, profane the ordinances of God; and the most forward to bind themselves by appeals to God, are commonly most ready to break them. Let us look to our hearts, that our repentance may be real, and take care that the law of God regulates our conduct.

【렘34:5 JFB】5. the burnings of thy fathers—Thy funeral shall be honored with the same burning of aromatic spices as there was at the funerals of thy fathers (대하16:14; 21:19). The honors here mentioned were denied to Jehoiakim (렘22:18).
Ah, lord!—The Hebrews in their chronology (Seder Olam) mention the wailing used over him, "Alas! King Zedekiah is dead, drinking the dregs (that is, paying the penalty for the sins) of former ages."

I proclaim a liberty—retribution answering to the offense (마7:2; 18:32, 33; 갈6:7; 약2:13). The Jews who would not give liberty to their brethren shall themselves receive "a liberty" calamitous to them. God will manumit them from His happy and safe service (시121:3), which is real "liberty" (시119:45; 요8:36; 고후3:17), only to pass under the terrible bondage of other taskmasters, the "sword," &c.
to be removed—The Hebrew expresses agitation (see on 렘15:4). Compare 신28:25, 48, 64, 65, as to the restless agitation of the Jews in their ceaseless removals from place to place in their dispersion.
【렘34:18 JFB】18. passed between the parts thereof—The contracting parties in the "covenant" (not here the law in general, but their covenant made before God in His house to emancipate their slaves, 렘34:8, 9) passed through the parts of the animal cut in two, implying that they prayed so to be cut in sunder (마24:51; Greek, "cut in two") if they should break the covenant (창15:10, 17).

seek their life—implacably: satisfied with nothing short of their blood; not content with booty.
dead bodies—The breakers of the covenant shall be cut in pieces, as the calf between whose parts they passed.
【렘34:21 JFB】21. gone up—that is, raised the siege in order to meet Pharaoh-hophra (렘37:7-10). The departure of the Chaldeans was a kind of manumission of the Jews; but as their manumission of their bond-servants was recalled, so God revoked His manumission of them from the Chaldeans.
