1. 다윗이 그 궁실에 거할 때에 선지자 나단에게 이르되 나는 백향목 궁에 거하거늘 여호와의 언악궤는 휘장 밑에 있도다

  Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house , that David said to Nathan the prophet , Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars , but the ark of the covenant of the Lord remaineth under curtains .

  Then Nathan said unto David , Do all that is in thine heart ; for God is with thee.

  For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day ; but have gone from tent to tent , and from one tabernacle to another.

 

6. 무릇 이스라엘 무리로 더불어 행하는 곳에서 내가 내 백성을 먹이라고 명한 이스라엘 어느 사사에게 내가 말하기를 너희가 어찌하여 나를 위하여 백향목 집을 건축하지 아니하였느냐고 말하였느냐 하고

  Wheresoever I have walked with all Israel , spake I a word to any of the judges of Israel , whom I commanded to feed my people , saying , Why have ye not built me an house of cedars ?

 

7. 연하여 내 종 다윗에게 이처럼 말하라 만군의 여호와께서 이처럼 말씀하시기를 내가 너를 목장 곧 양을 따르는데서 취하여 내 백성 이스라엘의 주권자를 삼고

  Now therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David , Thus saith the Lord of hosts , I took thee from the sheepcote , even from following the sheep , that thou shouldest be ruler over my people Israel :

 

8. 네가 어디를 가든지 내가 너와 함께 있어 네 모든 대적을 네 앞에서 멸하였은즉 세상에서 존귀한 자의 이름 같은 이름을 네게 만들어 주리라

  And I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast walked , and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee, and have made thee a name like the name of the great men that are in the earth .

 

9. 내가 또 내 백성 이스라엘을 위하여 한 곳을 정하여 저희를 심고 저희로 자기 곳에 거하여 다시는 옮기지 않게 하며 악한 유로 전과 같이 저희를 해하지 못하게 하여

  Also I will ordain a place for my people Israel , and will plant them, and they shall dwell in their place, and shall be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more , as at the beginning ,

 

10. 전에 내가 사사를 명하여 내 백성 이스라엘을 다스리던 때와 같지 않게 하고 또 모든 대적으로 네게 복종하게 하리라 또 네게 이르노니 여호와가 너를 위하여 집을 세울지라

  And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel . Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies . Furthermore I tell thee that the Lord will build thee an house .

 

11. 네 수한이 차서 네가 열조에게로 돌아가면 내가 네 뒤에 네 씨 곧 네 아들 중 하나를 세우고 그 나라를 견고하게 하리니

  And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers , that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons ; and I will establish his kingdom .

 

12. 저는 나를 위하여 집을 건축할 것이요 나는 그 위를 영원히 견고하게 하리라

  He shall build me an house , and I will stablish his throne for ever .

 

13. 나는 그 아비가 되고 그는 나의 아들이 되리니 나의 자비를 그에게서 빼앗지 아니하기를 내가 네 전에 있던 자에게서 빼앗음과 같이 하지 않을 것이며

  I will be his father , and he shall be my son : and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:

 

14. 내가 영영히 그를 내 집과 내 나라에 세우리니 그 위가 영원히 견고하리라 하셨다 하라

  But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever : and his throne shall be established for evermore .

 

15. 나단이 이 모든 말씀과 이 모든 묵시대로 다윗에게 고하니라

  According to all these words , and according to all this vision , so did Nathan speak unto David .

 

16. 다윗 왕이 여호와 앞에 들어가 앉아서 가로되 여호와 하나님이여 나는 누구오며 내 집은 무엇이관대 나로 이에 이르게 하셨나이까

  And David the king came and sat before the Lord , and said , Who am I, O Lord God , and what is mine house , that thou hast brought me hitherto ?

 

17. 하나님이여 주께서 이것을 오히려 작게 여기시고 또 종의 집에 대하여 먼 장래까지 말씀하셨사오니 여호와 하나님이여 나를 존귀한 자 같이 여기셨나이다

  And yet this was a small thing in thine eyes , O God ; for thou hast also spoken of thy servant’s house for a great while to come , and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree , O Lord God .

 

18. 주께서 주의 종에게 베푸신 존귀에 대하여 다윗이 다시 무슨 말씀을 하오리이까 주께서는 주의 종을 아시나이다

  What can David speak more to thee for the honour of thy servant ? for thou knowest thy servant .

 

19. 여호와여 주께서 주의 종을 위하여 주의 뜻대로 이 모든 큰 일을 행하사 이 모든 큰 일을 알게 하셨나이다

  O Lord , for thy servant’s sake, and according to thine own heart , hast thou done all this greatness , in making known all these great things .

 

20. 여호와여 우리 귀로 들은 대로는 주와 같은 이가 없고 주 외에는 참 신이 없나이다

  O Lord , there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears .

 

21. 땅의 어느 한 나라가 주의 백성 이스라엘과 같으리이까 하나님이 가서 구속하사 자기 백성을 삼으시고 크고 두려운 일로 인하여 이름을 얻으시고 애굽에서 구속하신 자기 백성 앞에서 열국을 쫓아내셨사오며

  And what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel , whom God went to redeem to be his own people , to make thee a name of greatness and terribleness , by driving out nations from before thy people , whom thou hast redeemed out of Egypt ?

 

22. 주께서 주의 백성 이스라엘로 영원히 주의 백성을 삼으셨사오니 여호와여 주께서 저희 하나님이 되셨나이다

  For thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever ; and thou, Lord , becamest their God .

 

23. 여호와여 이제 주의 종과 그 집에 대하여 말씀하신 것을 영원히 견고케 하시며 말씀하신 대로 행하사

  Therefore now, Lord , let the thing that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant and concerning his house be established for ever , and do as thou hast said .

 

24. 견고케 하시고 사람으로 영원히 주의 이름을 높여 이르기를 만군의 여호와는 이스라엘의 하나님 곧 이스라엘에게 하나님이시라 하게 하시며 주의 종 다윗의 집이 주 앞에서 견고히 서게 하옵소서

  Let it even be established , that thy name may be magnified for ever , saying , The Lord of hosts is the God of Israel , even a God to Israel : and let the house of David thy servant be established before thee.

 

25. 나의 하나님이여 주께서 종을 위하여 집을 세우실 것을 이미 듣게 하셨으므로 주의 종이 주 앞에서 이 기도로 구할 마음이 생겼나이다

  For thou, O my God , hast told thy servant that thou wilt build him an house : therefore thy servant hath found in his heart to pray before thee.

 

26. 여호와여 오직 주는 하나님이시라 주께서 이 좋은 것으로 주의 종에게 허락하시고

  And now, Lord , thou art God , and hast promised this goodness unto thy servant :

 

27. 이제 주께서 종의 집에 복을 주사 주 앞에 영원히 두시기를 기뻐하시나이다 여호와여 주께서 복을 주셨사오니 이 복을 영원히 누리리이다 하니라

  Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant , that it may be before thee for ever : for thou blessest , O Lord , and it shall be blessed for ever .

【대상17:1 JFB】대상17:1-10. David Forbidden to Build God a House.
1. as David sat in his house—The details of this chapter were given in nearly similar terms (삼하7:1-29). The date was towards the latter end of David's reign, for it is expressly said in the former book to have been at the cessation of all his wars. But as to narrate the preparations for the removal of the ark and the erection of the temple was the principal object of the historian, the exact chronology is not followed.

1. The Downfall of Saul, c. 10.
In reading this chapter with whose general contents we became familiar in 1 Samuel 31, it is important to note the inspired comment at its close (vv.
13, 14).
2. David's Heroes, cc. 11, 12.
In the history of David in this book, the writer dwells chiefly on its prosperous side, passing over the rest as lightly as possible. His anointing at Hebron (vv. 1-3), reveals nothing of what we learned earlier of the rival kingdom of the house of Saul, and the seven years before his exaltation over all Israel. Again, in the list of warriors (11:10-47), there is an omission of Joab's treachery and barbarous conduct in the cases of Abner, Uriah and Absalom.
Chapter 12 contains a supplemental list of braves who attached themselves to David earlier, and during the days of Saul, and of whom we have no record until now.
3. David's Victories and Festivals, cc. 13-16.
These begin with the bringing up of the ark as far as the house of Obed-edom (c. 13). Then follows the account of battles with the Philistines (c. 14), which occupies a different position from that in 2 Samuel 5, the reason for which can only be conjectured. After this the ark is brought up to Jerusalem (cc. 15, 16), the record being more detailed than in Samuel. Note, for example, the preparation and act of transfer. A tent is erected, (15:1) possibly in the vicinity of the palace, after the model of the old tabernacle. Then a consultation is held (v. 2), the representative men are assembled (v. 3), the bearers chosen (vv. 12-15), the singers appointed (vv. 16-24). Then the act itself, with its rejoicings, sacrifices and distribution of gifts (15:25-16:3). Then the initial service and the psalm of thanksgiving (vv. 4-36).
Another thus analyzes the eight strophes of this psalm: The first, summons to praise (vv. 8-11); the second, to think on the wonders and judgments of the Lord (vv. 12-14); the third, to think of the covenant made with the fathers (vv. 15-18); the fourth, gives the reasons to remember this covenant (vv. 19-22); the fifth, affirms that all the world shall concur in the greatness and glory of God (vv. 23-27); the sixth, all nations shall worship Him (vv. 28-30); the seventh, the inanimate creation will exult before Him (vv. 31-33); the eighth, closes with a repeated summons to praise and prayer (vv. 34-36).
4. David and The Temple, cc. 17-22.
Except as to its location the record in chapter 17 is in substance the same as in 2 Samuel 7. The "group of war reports," cc. 18-20, runs parallel to four sections in 2 Samuel which in that case are separated from one another by other matters. The story of the plague following the census (c. 21), contains some deviations from that in Samuel, as for example, its position in the record, the fact that the offence was instigated by Satan, that Benjamin and Levi were not numbered, and that the threshing-floor was thereafter the constant place of sacrifice by David. These things are additions and not contradictions. As to the last named, the words in verse 28, "At that time * * * he sacrificed there," have been rendered by Luther and others, "was wont to offer there," meaning that he did it repeatedly, frequently. In an earlier lesson it was stated that this threshing-floor subsequently became the site of Solomon's temple.
After the episode represented by these chapters the author returns to the subject of the temple (c. 22), speaking of David's preparation of the materials (vv. 1-5), his charge to Solomon (vv. 6-16), and finally his appeal to the princes to assist (vv. 17-19).
6. The Temple and Military Officers, cc. 23-27.
The opening comment of this section gives the reason for what follows. David was old and felt the need of putting things in readiness for his son (v. 1). There are two things that concern him chiefly, the worship of God and the strengthening of the kingdom, and it is significant that the worship of God receives attention first.
The chapters arrange themselves thus: Chapter 23 deals with the Levites, their number and classification for work; 24 does the same for the priests, except that the closing verses refer again to the Levites; 25 speaks of the singers; 26 of the porters, treasurers and other business officers; and 27 of the army, including its divisions and commanders.
7. David's Last Directions and Death, cc, 28, 29.
The last directions of David concern the building of the temple where all the princes, the captains, the courtiers and the heroes are addressed (vv. 1, 2), and Solomon in their presence is invested with power and authority as his successor (w. 5-21).
Note the words in verse 12. "And the pattern of all that he had by the Spirit." We use a capital "S" believing the Holy Spirit to be intended, and that the words should be read in the light of verse 19, "All this, the Lord made me understand in writing by His hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern." Are we not to understand, difficult as the words may be, that as God revealed the original of the temple to Moses in the wilderness when He revealed the tabernacle, so now also He controlled and directed David when the time came for the actual erection of the temple?
Do not pass chapter 29 carelessly. Note David's example of giving (vv. 3-5), and the lever it affords to make an appeal to others. See the working of the Spirit of God among the people in the gladness of it all (v. 9), a fact David recognizes and for which he praises God, verse 10 and the following.
When it says "they made Solomon king the second time" (v. 22), it is in contrast with 23:1. In that case the first proclamation was made, but now the actual anointing took place. (Compare 왕상1:32 and the following verses.)

 

【대상17:1 MHCC】David's purposes; God's gracious promises.
—This chapter is the same as 2Sa 7. See what is there said upon it. It is very observable that what in Samuel is said to be, “for thy word's sake,” is here said to be, “for thy servant's sake,” ver. #(19). Jesus Christ is both the Word of God, 계19:13, and the Servant of God, 사42:1; and it is for his sake, upon account of his mediation, that the promises are made good to all believers; it is in him, that they are yea and amen. For His sake it is done, for his sake it is made known; to him we owe all this greatness, from him we are to expect all these great things. They are the unsearchable riches of Christ, which, if by faith we see in themselves, and see in the Lord Jesus, we cannot but magnify as the only true greatness, and speak honourably of them. For this blessedness may we look amidst the trials of life, and when we feel the hand of death upon us; and seek it for our children after us.

 

【대상17:5 JFB】5. I … have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another—The literal rendering is, "I was walking in a tent and in a dwelling." The evident intention (as we may see from 대상17:6) was to lay stress upon the fact that God was a Mithhatlek (a travelling God) and went from one place to another with His tent and His entire dwelling (the dwelling included not merely the tent, but the fore-courts with the altar of burnt offerings, &c.) [Bertheau].

 

【대상17:6 JFB】6. spake I a word to any of the judges—In 삼하7:7 it is "any of the tribes" of Israel. Both are included. But the judges "who were commanded to feed the people," form the more suitable antithesis to David.
Why have ye not built me an house of cedars?—that is, a solid and magnificent temple.

 

【대상17:7 JFB】7. Thus saith the Lord of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote—a round tower of rude construction, high walled, but open at the top, in which sheep are often enclosed at night to protect them from wild beasts. The meaning is, I elevated you to the throne from a humble condition solely by an act of divine grace, and not from any antecedent merits of your own (see on 삼상16:11), and I enabled you to acquire renown, equal or superior to any other monarch. Your reign will ever be afterwards regarded as the best and brightest era in the history of Israel, for it will secure to the nation a settled inheritance of prosperity and peace, without any of the oppressions or disorders that afflicted them in early times.

 

【대상17:9 JFB】9, 10. at the beginning, and since the time that I commanded judges—that is, including the whole period from Joshua to Saul.
I tell thee that the Lord will build thee an house—This was the language of Nathan himself, who was specially directed to assure David, not only of personal blessing and prosperity, but of a continuous line of royal descendants.

 

【대상17:11 JFB】11. I will raise up thy seed—(See on 삼하7:12).

 

【대상17:13 JFB】13. I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee—My procedure in dealing with him will be different from My disposal of Saul. Should his misconduct call for personal chastisement, I shall spare his family. If I see it necessary to withdraw My favor and help for a time, it will be a corrective discipline only to reform and restore, not to destroy. (On this passage some have founded an argument for Solomon's repentance and return to God).

 

【대상17:14 JFB】14. I will settle him in my house—over My people Israel.
and in my kingdom for ever—God here asserts His right of supreme sovereignty in Israel. David and Solomon, with their successors, were only the vicegerents whom He nominated, or, in His providence, permitted.
his throne shall be established for evermore—The posterity of David inherited the throne in a long succession—but not always. In such a connection as this, the phrase "for evermore" is employed in a restricted sense (see on 애3:31). We naturally expect the prophet to revert to David before concluding, after having spoken (대상17:12) of the building of Solomon's temple. The promise that his house should be blessed was intended as a compensation for the disappointment of his wish to build the temple, and hence this assurance is appropriately repeated at the conclusion of the prophet's address [Bertheau].
