  So they brought the ark of God , and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God .

  And he dealt to every one of Israel , both man and woman , to every one a loaf of bread , and a good piece of flesh , and a flagon of wine.

 

4. 또 레위 사람을 세워 여호와의 궤 앞에서 섬기며 이스라엘 하나님 여호와를 칭송하며 감사하며 찬양하게 하였으니

  And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord , and to record , and to thank and praise the Lord God of Israel :

  Asaph the chief , and next to him Zechariah , Jeiel , and Shemiramoth , and Jehiel , and Mattithiah , and Eliab , and Benaiah , and Obed–edom : and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps ; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals ;

  Benaiah also and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God .

  Glory ye in his holy name : let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord .

 

11. 여호와와 그 능력을 구할지어다 그 얼굴을 항상 구할지어다

  Seek the Lord and his strength , seek his face continually .

 

12. 그 종 이스라엘의 후손 곧 택하신 야곱의 자손 너희는 그 행하신 기사와 그 이적과 그 입의 판단을 기억할지어다

  Remember his marvellous works that he hath done , his wonders , and the judgments of his mouth ;

  O ye seed of Israel his servant , ye children of Jacob , his chosen ones .

  He is the Lord our God ; his judgments are in all the earth .

  Be ye mindful always of his covenant ; the word which he commanded to a thousand generations ;

 

16. 이것은 아브라함에게 하신 언약이며 이삭에게 하신 맹세며

  Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham , and of his oath unto Isaac ;

 

17. 이는 야곱에게 세우신 율례 곧 이스라엘에게 하신 영원한 언약이라

  And hath confirmed the same to Jacob for a law , and to Israel for an everlasting covenant ,

 

18. 이르시기를 내가 가나안 땅을 네게 주어 너희 기업의 지경이 되게 하리라 하셨도다

  Saying , Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan , the lot of your inheritance ;

 

19. 때에 너희 인수가 적어서 매우 영성하며 그 땅에 객이 되어

  When ye were but few , even a few , and strangers in it.

 

20. 이 족속에게서 저 족속에게로, 이 나라에서 다른 민족에게로 유리하였도다

  And when they went from nation to nation , and from one kingdom to another people ;

 

21. 사람이 그들을 해하기를 용납지 아니하시고 그들의 연고로 열왕을 꾸짖어

  He suffered no man to do them wrong : yea, he reproved kings for their sakes,

 

22. 이르기를 나의 기름 부은 자를 만지지 말며 나의 선지자를 상하지 말라 하셨도다

  Saying, Touch not mine anointed , and do my prophets no harm .

 

23. 온 땅이여 여호와께 노래하며 구원을 날마다 선포할지어다

  Sing unto the Lord , all the earth ; shew forth from day to day his salvation .

 

24. 그 영광을 열방 중에, 그 기이한 행적을 만민 중에 선포할지어다

  Declare his glory among the heathen ; his marvellous works among all nations .

 

25. 여호와는 광대하시니 극진히 찬양할 것이요 모든 신보다 경외할 것임이여

  For great is the Lord , and greatly to be praised : he also is to be feared above all gods .

 

26. 만방의 모든 신은 헛것이요 여호와께서는 하늘을 지으셨음이로다

  For all the gods of the people are idols : but the Lord made the heavens .

 

27. 존귀와 위엄이 그 앞에 있으며 능력과 즐거움이 그 처소에 있도다

  Glory and honour are in his presence ; strength and gladness are in his place .

 

28. 만방의 족속들아 영광과 권능을 여호와께 돌릴지어다 여호와께 돌릴지어다

  Give unto the Lord , ye kindreds of the people , give unto the Lord glory and strength .

 

29. 여호와의 이름에 합당한 영광을 그에게 돌릴지어다 예물을 가지고 그 앞에 들어갈지어다 아름답고 거룩한 것으로 여호와께 경배할지어다

  Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name : bring an offering , and come before him: worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness .

 

30. 온 땅이여 그 앞에서 떨지어다 세계가 굳게 서고 흔들리지 못하는도다

  Fear before him, all the earth : the world also shall be stable , that it be not moved .

 

31. 하늘은 기뻐하고 땅은 즐거워하며 열방 중에서는 이르기를 여호와께서 통치하신다 할지로다

  Let the heavens be glad , and let the earth rejoice : and let men say among the nations , The Lord reigneth .

 

32. 바다와 거기 충만한 것이 외치며 밭과 그 가운데 모든 것은 즐거워할지로다

  Let the sea roar , and the fulness thereof: let the fields rejoice , and all that is therein.

 

33. 그리 할 때에 삼림의 나무들이 여호와 앞에서 즐거이 노래하리니 주께서 땅을 심판하러 오실 것임이로다

  Then shall the trees of the wood sing out at the presence of the Lord , because he cometh to judge the earth .

 

34. 여호와께 감사하라 그는 선하시며 그 인자하심이 영원함이로다

  O give thanks unto the Lord ; for he is good ; for his mercy endureth for ever .

 

35. 너희는 이르기를 우리의 구원의 하나님이여 우리를 구원하여 만국 가운데서 건져 내시고 모으시사 우리로 주의 성호를 감사하며 주의 영예를 찬양하게 하소서 할지어다

  And say ye, Save us, O God of our salvation , and gather us together , and deliver us from the heathen , that we may give thanks to thy holy name , and glory in thy praise .

 

36. 여호와 이스라엘의 하나님을 영원부터 영원까지 송축할지로다 하매 모든 백성이 아멘하고 여호와를 찬양하였더라

  Blessed be the Lord God of Israel for ever and ever . And all the people said , Amen , and praised the Lord .

 

37. 다윗이 아삽과 그 형제를 여호와의 언약궤 앞에 머물러 항상 그 궤 앞에서 섬기게 하되 날마다 그 일대로 하게 하였고

  So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the Lord Asaph and his brethren , to minister before the ark continually , as every day’s work required :

 

38. 오벧에돔과 그 형제 육십팔 인과 여두둔의 아들 오벧에돔과 호사로 문지기를 삼았고

  And Obed–edom with their brethren , threescore and eight ; Obed–edom also the son of Jeduthun and Hosah to be porters :

 

39. 제사장 사독과 그 형제 제사장들로 기브온 산당에서 여호와의 성막 앞에 모시게 하여

  And Zadok the priest , and his brethren the priests , before the tabernacle of the Lord in the high place that was at Gibeon ,

 

40. 항상 조석으로 번제단 위에 여호와께 번제를 드리되 여호와의 율법에 기록하여 이스라엘에게 명하신 대로 다 준행하게 하였고

  To offer burnt offerings unto the Lord upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening , and to do according to all that is written in the law of the Lord , which he commanded Israel ;

 

41. 또 저희와 함께 헤만과 여두둔과 그 남아 택함을 받고 녹명된 자를 세워 여호와의 자비하심이 영원함을 인하여 감사하게 하였고

  And with them Heman and Jeduthun , and the rest that were chosen , who were expressed by name , to give thanks to the Lord , because his mercy endureth for ever ;

 

42. 또 저희와 함께 헤만과 여두둔을 세워 나팔과 제금들과 하나님을 찬송하는 악기로 소리를 크게 내게 하였고 또 여두둔의 아들로 문을 지키게 하였더라

  And with them Heman and Jeduthun with trumpets and cymbals for those that should make a sound , and with musical instruments of God . And the sons of Jeduthun were porters .

 

43. 이에 뭇 백성은 각각 그 집으로 돌아가고 다윗도 자기 집을 위하여 축복하려고 돌아갔더라

  And all the people departed every man to his house : and David returned to bless his house .

【대상16:1 JFB】대상16:1-6. David's Festival Sacrifice and Liberality to the People.

 

【대상16:1 CWC】[DAVID'S REIGN]
1. The Downfall of Saul, c. 10.
In reading this chapter with whose general contents we became familiar in 1 Samuel 31, it is important to note the inspired comment at its close (vv.
13, 14).
2. David's Heroes, cc. 11, 12.
In the history of David in this book, the writer dwells chiefly on its prosperous side, passing over the rest as lightly as possible. His anointing at Hebron (vv. 1-3), reveals nothing of what we learned earlier of the rival kingdom of the house of Saul, and the seven years before his exaltation over all Israel. Again, in the list of warriors (11:10-47), there is an omission of Joab's treachery and barbarous conduct in the cases of Abner, Uriah and Absalom.
Chapter 12 contains a supplemental list of braves who attached themselves to David earlier, and during the days of Saul, and of whom we have no record until now.
3. David's Victories and Festivals, cc. 13-16.
These begin with the bringing up of the ark as far as the house of Obed-edom (c. 13). Then follows the account of battles with the Philistines (c. 14), which occupies a different position from that in 2 Samuel 5, the reason for which can only be conjectured. After this the ark is brought up to Jerusalem (cc. 15, 16), the record being more detailed than in Samuel. Note, for example, the preparation and act of transfer. A tent is erected, (15:1) possibly in the vicinity of the palace, after the model of the old tabernacle. Then a consultation is held (v. 2), the representative men are assembled (v. 3), the bearers chosen (vv. 12-15), the singers appointed (vv. 16-24). Then the act itself, with its rejoicings, sacrifices and distribution of gifts (15:25-16:3). Then the initial service and the psalm of thanksgiving (vv. 4-36).
Another thus analyzes the eight strophes of this psalm: The first, summons to praise (vv. 8-11); the second, to think on the wonders and judgments of the Lord (vv. 12-14); the third, to think of the covenant made with the fathers (vv. 15-18); the fourth, gives the reasons to remember this covenant (vv. 19-22); the fifth, affirms that all the world shall concur in the greatness and glory of God (vv. 23-27); the sixth, all nations shall worship Him (vv. 28-30); the seventh, the inanimate creation will exult before Him (vv. 31-33); the eighth, closes with a repeated summons to praise and prayer (vv. 34-36).
4. David and The Temple, cc. 17-22.
Except as to its location the record in chapter 17 is in substance the same as in 2 Samuel 7. The "group of war reports," cc. 18-20, runs parallel to four sections in 2 Samuel which in that case are separated from one another by other matters. The story of the plague following the census (c. 21), contains some deviations from that in Samuel, as for example, its position in the record, the fact that the offence was instigated by Satan, that Benjamin and Levi were not numbered, and that the threshing-floor was thereafter the constant place of sacrifice by David. These things are additions and not contradictions. As to the last named, the words in verse 28, "At that time * * * he sacrificed there," have been rendered by Luther and others, "was wont to offer there," meaning that he did it repeatedly, frequently. In an earlier lesson it was stated that this threshing-floor subsequently became the site of Solomon's temple.
After the episode represented by these chapters the author returns to the subject of the temple (c. 22), speaking of David's preparation of the materials (vv. 1-5), his charge to Solomon (vv. 6-16), and finally his appeal to the princes to assist (vv. 17-19).
6. The Temple and Military Officers, cc. 23-27.
The opening comment of this section gives the reason for what follows. David was old and felt the need of putting things in readiness for his son (v. 1). There are two things that concern him chiefly, the worship of God and the strengthening of the kingdom, and it is significant that the worship of God receives attention first.
The chapters arrange themselves thus: Chapter 23 deals with the Levites, their number and classification for work; 24 does the same for the priests, except that the closing verses refer again to the Levites; 25 speaks of the singers; 26 of the porters, treasurers and other business officers; and 27 of the army, including its divisions and commanders.
7. David's Last Directions and Death, cc, 28, 29.
The last directions of David concern the building of the temple where all the princes, the captains, the courtiers and the heroes are addressed (vv. 1, 2), and Solomon in their presence is invested with power and authority as his successor (w. 5-21).
Note the words in verse 12. "And the pattern of all that he had by the Spirit." We use a capital "S" believing the Holy Spirit to be intended, and that the words should be read in the light of verse 19, "All this, the Lord made me understand in writing by His hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern." Are we not to understand, difficult as the words may be, that as God revealed the original of the temple to Moses in the wilderness when He revealed the tabernacle, so now also He controlled and directed David when the time came for the actual erection of the temple?
Do not pass chapter 29 carelessly. Note David's example of giving (vv. 3-5), and the lever it affords to make an appeal to others. See the working of the Spirit of God among the people in the gladness of it all (v. 9), a fact David recognizes and for which he praises God, verse 10 and the following.
When it says "they made Solomon king the second time" (v. 22), it is in contrast with 23:1. In that case the first proclamation was made, but now the actual anointing took place. (Compare 왕상1:32 and the following verses.)

 

【대상16:1 MHCC】Though God's word and ordinances may be clouded and eclipsed for a time, they shall shine out of obscurity. This was but a tent, a humble dwelling, yet this was the tabernacle which David, in his psalms, often speaks of with so much affection. David showed himself generous to his subjects, as he had found God gracious to him. Those whose hearts are enlarged with holy joy, should show it by being open-handed.

 

【대상16:2 JFB】2. he blessed the people in the name of the Lord—The king commended their zeal, supplicated the divine blessing upon them, and ordered the remains of the thank offerings which had been profusely sacrificed during the procession, to be distributed in certain proportions to every individual, that the ceremonial might terminate with appropriate festivities (신12:7).

 

【대상16:3 JFB】3. flagon of wine—The two latter words are a supplement by our translators, and the former is, in other versions, rendered not a "flagon," but a "cake," a confection, as the Septuagint renders it, made of flour and honey.

 

【대상16:4 JFB】4-6. he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord—No sooner was the ark deposited in its tent than the Levites, who were to officiate in the choirs before it, entered upon their duties. A select number of the musicians were chosen for the service from the list (대상15:19-21) of those who had taken a prominent part in the recent procession. The same arrangement was to be observed in their duties, now that the ark again was stationary; Asaph, with his associates, composing the first or principal company, played with cymbals; Zechariah and his colleagues, with whom were conjoined Jeiel and Obed-edom, forming the second company, used harps and similar instruments.

【대상16:6 JFB】6. Benaiah also and Jahaziel—The name of the former is mentioned among the priests (대상15:24), but not the latter. The office assigned to them was that of blowing trumpets at regular intervals before the ark and in the tabernacle.

 

【대상16:7 JFB】대상16:7-43. His Psalm of Thanksgiving.
7. Then on that day David delivered first this psalm—Among the other preparations for this solemn inauguration, the royal bard had composed a special hymn for the occasion. Doubtless it had been previously in the hands of Asaph and his assistants, but it was now publicly committed to them as they entered for the first time on the performance of their sacred duties. It occupies the greater part of this chapter (대상16:8-36), and seems to have been compiled from other psalms of David, previously known to the Israelites, as the whole of it will be found, with very slight variations, in 시96:1-13; 105:1-15; 106:47, 48. In the form, however, in which it is given by the sacred historian, it seems to have been the first psalm given for use in the tabernacle service. Abounding, as it does, with the liveliest ascriptions of praise to God for the revelation of His glorious character and the display of His marvellous works and containing, as it does, so many pointed allusions to the origin, privileges, and peculiar destiny of the chosen people, it was admirably calculated to animate the devotions and call forth the gratitude of the assembled multitude.

 

【대상16:7 MHCC】Let God be glorified in our praises. Let others be edified and taught, that strangers to him may be led to adore him. Let us ourselves triumph and trust in God. Those that give glory to God's name are allowed to glory in it. Let the everlasting covenant be the great matter of our joy his people of old, be remembered by us with thankfulness to him. Show forth from day to day his salvation, his promised salvation by Christ. We have reason to celebrate that from day to day; for we daily receive the benefit, and it is a subject that can never be exhausted. In the midst of praises, we must not forget to pray for the servants of God in distress.

 

【대상16:36 JFB】36. all the people said, Amen—(Compare 시72:19, 20; 106:48). In the former, the author of the doxology utters the "amen" himself, while in the latter the people are exhorted to say "amen." This may arise from the fact that the latter psalm originally concluded with the injunction to say "amen." But in this historical account of the festival, it was necessary to relate that the people obeyed this injunction on the occasion referred to, and therefore the words "let them praise," were altered into "and they praised" [Bertheau].

 

【대상16:37 JFB】37-42. So he left there before the ark of the covenant of the Lord Asaph and his brethren, &c.—The sequel of the chapter describes the appointment of the sacred musicians and their respective duties.

 

【대상16:37 MHCC】The worship of God ought to be the work of every day. David put it into order. At Jerusalem, where the ark was, Asaph and his brethren were to minister before the ark continually, with songs of praise. No sacrifices were offered there, nor incense burnt, because the altars were not there; but David's prayers were directed as incense, and the lifting up of his hands as the evening sacrifice. So early did spiritual worship take place of ceremonial. Yet the ceremonial worship, being of Divine institution, must by no means be omitted; therefore at Gibeon, at the altars, the priests attended; for their work was to sacrifice and burn incense; and that they did continually, morning and evening, according to the law of Moses. As the ceremonies were types of the mediation of Christ, the observance of them was of great consequence. The attendance of his appointed ministers is right in itself, and encourages the people.

and do according to all that is written in the law—(See 민28:1-31). Thus, in the time of David, the worship was performed at two places, where the sacred things that had been transmitted from the age of Moses were preserved. Before the Ark in Jerusalem, Asaph and his brethren officiated as singers, Obed-edom and Hosah served as doorkeepers, and Benaiah and Jahaziel blew the trumpets. While at the tabernacle and burnt offering in Gibeon, Heman and Jeduthun presided over the sacred music, the sons of Jeduthun were door keepers, and Zadok, with his suite of attendant priests, offered the sacrifices.
