■ 누가복음 21장

1. 예수께서 눈을 들어 부자들이 연보궤에 헌금 넣는 것을 보시고

  And he looked up , and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury .

  And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites .

  And he said , Of a truth I say unto you , that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all :

  For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God : but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had .

  And as some spake of the temple , how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts , he said ,

 

6. 너희 보는 이것들이 날이 이르면 돌 하나도 돌 위에 남지 않고 다 무너뜨리우리라

  As for these things which ye behold , the days will come , in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another , that shall not be thrown down .

  And they asked him , saying , Master , but when shall these things be ? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass ?

  And he said , Take heed that ye be not deceived : for many shall come in my name , saying , I am Christ; and the time draweth near : go ye not therefore after them .

 

9. 난리와 소란의 소문을 들을 때에 두려워 말라 이 일이 먼저 있어야 하되 끝은 곧 되지 아니하니라

  But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions , be not terrified : for these things must first come to pass ; but the end is not by and by .

 

10. 또 이르시되 민족이 민족을, 나라가 나라를 대적하여 일어나겠고

  Then said he unto them , Nation shall rise against nation , and kingdom against kingdom :

 

11. 처처에 큰 지진과 기근과 온역이 있겠고 또 무서운 일과 하늘로서 큰 징조들이 있으리라

  And great earthquakes shall be in divers places , and famines , and pestilences ; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven .

 

12. 이 모든 일 전에 내 이름을 인하여 너희에게 손을 대어 핍박하며 회당과 옥에 넘겨주며 임금들과 관장들 앞에 끌어 가려니와

  But before all these , they shall lay their hands on you , and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues , and into prisons , being brought before kings and rulers for my name’s sake .

 

13. 이 일이 도리어 너희에게 증거가 되리라

  And it shall turn to you for a testimony .

 

14. 그러므로 너희는 변명할 것을 미리 연구치 않기로 결심하라

  Settle it therefore in your hearts , not to meditate before what ye shall answer :

 

15. 내가 너희의 모든 대적이 능히 대항하거나 변박할 수 없는 구재와 지혜를 너희에게 주리라

  For I will give you a mouth and wisdom , which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist .

 

16. 심지어 부모와 형제와 친척과 벗이 너희를 넘겨주어 너희 중에 몇을 죽이게 하겠고

  And ye shall be betrayed both by parents , and brethren , and kinsfolks , and friends ; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death .

 

17. 또 너희가 내 이름을 인하여 모든 사람에게 미움을 받을 것이나

  And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake .

 

18. 너희 머리털 하나도 상치 아니하리라

  But there shall not an hair of your head perish .

 

19. 너희의 인내로 너희 영혼을 얻으리라

  In your patience possess ye your souls .

 

20. 너희가 예루살렘이 군대들에게 에워싸이는 것을 보거든 그 멸망이 가까운 줄을 알라

  And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies , then know that the desolation thereof is nigh .

 

21. 그 때에 유대에 있는 자들은 산으로 도망할지며 성내에 있는 자들은 나갈지며 촌에 있는 자들은 그리로 들어가지 말지어다

  Then let them which are in Judæa flee to the mountains ; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out ; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto .

 

22. 이 날들은 기록된 모든 것을 이루는 형벌의 날이니라

  For these be the days of vengeance , that all things which are written may be fulfilled .

 

23. 그 날에는 아이 밴 자들과 젖먹이는 자들에게 화가 있으리니 이는 땅에 큰 환난과 이 백성에게 진노가 있겠음이로다

  But woe unto them that are with child , and to them that give suck , in those days ! for there shall be great distress in the land , and wrath upon this people .

 

24. 저희가 칼날에 죽임을 당하며 모든 이방에 사로잡혀 가겠고 예루살렘은 이방인의 때가 차기까지 이방인들에게 밟히리라

  And they shall fall by the edge of the sword , and shall be led away captive into all nations : and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles , until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled .

 

25. 일월 성신에는 징조가 있겠고 땅에서는 민족들이 바다와 파도의 우는 소리를 인하여 혼란한 중에 곤고하리라

  And there shall be signs in the sun , and in the moon , and in the stars ; and upon the earth distress of nations , with perplexity ; the sea and the waves roaring ;

 

26. 사람들이 세상에 임할 일을 생각하고 무서워하므로 기절하리니 이는 하늘의 권능들이 흔들리겠음이라

  Men’s hearts failing them for fear , and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth : for the powers of heaven shall be shaken .

 

27. 그 때에 사람들이 인자가 구름을 타고 능력과 큰 영광으로 오는 것을 보리라

  And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory .

 

28. 이런 일이 되기를 시작하거든 일어나 머리를 들라 너희 구속이 가까웠느니라 하시더라

  And when these things begin to come to pass , then look up , and lift up your heads ; for your redemption draweth nigh .

 

29. 이에 비유로 이르시되 무화과나무와 모든 나무를 보라

  And he spake to them a parable ; Behold the fig tree , and all the trees ;

 

30. 싹이 나면 너희가 보고 여름이 가까운 줄을 자연히 아나니

  When they now shoot forth , ye see and know of your own selves that summer is now nigh at hand .

 

31. 이와 같이 너희가 이런 일이 나는 것을 보거든 하나님의 나라가 가까운 줄을 알라

  So likewise ye , when ye see these things come to pass , know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand .

 

32. 내가 진실로 너희에게 말하노니 이 세대가 지나가기 전에 모든 일이 다 이루리라

  Verily I say unto you , This generation shall not pass away , till all be fulfilled .

 

33. 천지는 없어지겠으나 내 말은 없어지지 아니하리라

  Heaven and earth shall pass away : but my words shall not pass away .

 

34. 너희는 스스로 조심하라 그렇지 않으면 방탕함과 술취함과 생활의 염려로 마음이 둔하여지고 뜻밖에 그 날이 덫과 같이 너희에게 임하리라

  And take heed to yourselves , lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting , and drunkenness , and cares of this life , and so that day come upon you unawares .

 

35. 이 날은 온 지구상에 거하는 모든 사람에게 임하리라

  For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth .

 

36. 이러므로 너희는 장차 올 이 모든 일을 능히 피하고 인자 앞에 서도록 항상 기도하며 깨어 있으라 하시니라

  Watch ye therefore , and pray always , that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass , and to stand before the Son of man .

 

37. 예수께서 낮이면 성전에서 가르치시고 밤이면 나가 감람원이라 하는 산에서 쉬시니

  And in the day time he was teaching in the temple ; and at night he went out , and abode in the mount that is called the mount of Olives .

 

38. 모든 백성이 그 말씀을 들으려고 이른 아침에 성전에 나아가더라

  And all the people came early in the morning to him in the temple , for to hear him .

【눅21:1 JFB】Lu 21:1-4. The Widow's Two Mites.
1. looked up—He had "sat down over against the treasury" (막12:41), probably to rest, for He had continued long standing as he taught in the temple court (막11:27), and "looking up He saw"—as in Zaccheus' case, not quite casually.
the rich, &c.—"the people," says 막12:41 "cast money into the treasury, and many rich east in much"; that is, into chests deposited in one of the courts of the temple to receive the offerings of the people towards its maintenance (왕하12:9; 요8:20).

 

【눅21:1 CWC】The facts of this lesson are: (1) the challenge of the chief priests and scribes as to the authority of Jesus which, as we saw in Matthew 21, was equivalent to their formal rejection of Him who had just entered their city as the Messiah in fulfillment of Zechariah's prophecy; (2) the parable of the vineyard which, as we saw in the same place, was equivalent to His formal rejection of the nation; (3) the questionings of the Pharisees, the Sadducees and the scribes, "that they might take hold of His words, that so they might deliver Him unto the power and authority of the governor," (19-47); (4) the incident of the widow's mite (c. 21:1-4), dealt with in Mark 12; (5), the Olivet discourse on His second coming, being a shorter record of that in Matthew 24, and covering in this chapter verses 5-34.
In the questioning of the Sadducees (c. 20 : 27-40) Luke gives particulars unnoticed by the other evangelists. He adds the words of Jesus, (v. 36) explaining why they who are counted "worthy to attain that world and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage," because they never "die any more" but, in that sense, "are equal unto the angels." In other words the ordinance of marriage is not needed to perpetuate the race. A further particular is at verse 38, "For all live unto Him." Death does not terminate man's existence -- either that of the righteous or the wicked, the believing or the unbelieving. As unclothed spirits they live before God, and of course this will be true in the further sense on the resurrection of their bodies from the dead. Another particular peculiar to Luke is in the Olivet discourse. Verses 20 and 24 are not given by Matthew or Mark. The whole of that section in Luke refers to the siege of Jerusalem by Titus A. D. 70, when the city was taken; but that siege foreshadows the greater one at the end of this age of which we learned in the Old Testament. In the siege at the end of the age the city will not be taken, but be delivered by the appearing of Christ (계19:11-21). The references in Mathew and Mark unlike this in Luke, are to this last siege and not to the earlier one. In Luke, the sign is the compassing of Jerusalem by armies (v. 20), but in the other gospels it is the abomination in the holy place (살후2:4) -- (Scofield Bible). There is no contradiction among the evangelists as to this, as a comparison shows that questions touching both the commencement and the end of Jerusalem's trouble were put to Christ by His disciples. But the different narrators give those which relate to our Lord's reply as each was guided of the Spirit to record them. The trouble of Jerusalem caused by the rejection of Christ, began with the siege under Titus, but will not end till the times of the Gentiles have run their course. (눅21:24).

Blessed Lord! the poorest of thy servants have two mites, they have a soul and a body; persuade and enable us to offer both unto thee; how happy shall we be in thine accepting of them!

of her penury—or "want" (막12:44)—her deficiency, of what was less than her own wants required, "all the living she had." Mark (막12:44) still more emphatically, "all that she had—her whole subsistence." Note: (1) As temple offerings are needed still for the service of Christ at home and abroad, so "looking down" now, as then "up," Me "sees" who "cast in," and how much. (2) Christ's standard of commendable offering is not our superfluity, but our deficiency—not what will never be missed, but what costs us some real sacrifice, and just in proportion to the relative amount of that sacrifice. (See 고후8:1-3.)

【눅21:5 MHCC】With much curiosity those about Christ ask as to the time when the great desolation should be. He answers with clearness and fulness, as far as was necessary to teach them their duty; for all knowledge is desirable as far as it is in order to practice. Though spiritual judgements are the most common in gospel times, yet God makes use of temporal judgments also. Christ tells them what hard things they should suffer for his name's sake, and encourages them to bear up under their trials, and to go on in their work, notwithstanding the opposition they would meet with. God will stand by you, and own you, and assist you. This was remarkably fulfilled after the pouring out of the Spirit, by whom Christ gave his disciples wisdom and utterance. Though we may be losers for Christ, we shall not, we cannot be losers by him, in the end. It is our duty and interest at all times, especially in perilous, trying times, to secure the safety of our own souls. It is by Christian patience we keep possession of our own souls, and keep out all those impressions which would put us out of temper. We may view the prophecy before us much as those Old Testament prophecies, which, together with their great object, embrace, or glance at some nearer object of importance to the church. Having given an idea of the times for about thirty-eight years next to come, Christ shows what all those things would end in, namely, the destruction of Jerusalem, and the utter dispersion of the Jewish nation; which would be a type and figure of Christ's second coming. The scattered Jews around us preach the truth of Christianity; and prove, that though heaven and earth shall pass away, the words of Jesus shall not pass away. They also remind us to pray for those times when neither the real, nor the spiritual Jerusalem, shall any longer be trodden down by the Gentiles, and when both Jews and Gentiles shall be turned to the Lord. When Christ came to destroy the Jews, he came to redeem the Christians that were persecuted and oppressed by them; and then had the churches rest. When he comes to judge the world, he will redeem all that are his from their troubles. So fully did the Divine judgements come upon the Jews, that their city is set as an example before us, to show that sins will not pass unpunished; and that the terrors of the Lord, and his threatenings against impenitent sinners, will all come to pass, even as his word was true, and his wrath great upon Jerusalem.

【눅21:18 JFB】18. not a hair … perish—He had just said (Lu 21:16) they should be put to death; showing that this precious promise is far above immunity from mere bodily harm, and furnishing a key to the right interpretation of the ninety-first Psalm, and such like. Matthew adds the following (마24:12): "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many," the many or, the most—the generality of professed disciples—"shall wax cold." But he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Sad illustrations of the effect of abounding iniquity in cooling the love of faithful disciples we have in the Epistle of James, written about this period referred to, and too frequently ever since (히10:38, 39; 계2:10). "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness, and then shall the end come" (마24:14). God never sends judgment without previous warning; and there can be no doubt that the Jews, already dispersed over most known countries, had nearly all heard the Gospel "as a witness," before the end of the Jewish state. The same principle was repeated and will repeat itself to the end.

 

【눅21:20 JFB】20, 21. by armies—encamped armies, that is, besieged: "the abomination of desolation" (meaning the Roman ensigns, as the symbols of an idolatrous, pagan, unclean power) "spoken of by Daniel the prophet" (단9:27) "standing where it ought not" (막13:14). "Whoso readeth [that prophecy] let him understand" (마24:15).
Then … flee, &c.—Eusebius says the Christians fled to Pella, at the north extremity of Perea, being "prophetically directed"; perhaps by some prophetic intimation still more explicit than this, which still would be their chart.

with child, &c.—from the greater suffering it would involve; as also "flight in winter, and on the sabbath," which they were to "pray" against (마24:20), the one as more trying to the body, the other to the soul. "For then shall be tribulation such as was not since the beginning of the world, nor ever shall be"—language not unusual in the Old Testament for tremendous calamities, though of this it may perhaps be literally said, "And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved, but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened" (마24:21, 22). But for this merciful "shortening," brought about by a remarkable concurrence of causes, the whole nation would have perished, in which there yet remained a remnant to be afterwards gathered out. Here in Matthew and Mark (마24:24; 막13:22) are some particulars about "false Christs," who should, "if possible"—a precious clause—"deceive the very elect." (Compare 살후2:9-11; 계13:13.)

Jerusalem … trodden down … until, &c.—Implying (1) that one day Jerusalem shall cease to be "trodden down by the Gentiles" (계11:2), as then by pagan so now by Mohammedan unbelievers; (2) that this shall be at the "completion" of "the times of the Gentiles," which from 롬11:25 (taken from this) we conclude to mean till the Gentiles have had their full time of that place in the Church which the Jews in their time had before them—after which, the Jews being again "grafted into their own olive tree," one Church of Jew and Gentile together shall fill the earth (롬11:1-36). What a vista this opens up!

 

【눅21:25 JFB】25-28. signs, &c.—Though the grandeur of this language carries the mind over the head of all periods but that of Christ's second coming, nearly every expression will be found used of the Lord's coming in terrible national judgments, as of Babylon, &c.; and from Lu 21:28, 32, it seems undeniable that its immediate reference was to the destruction of Jerusalem, though its ultimate reference beyond doubt is to Christ's final coming.

 

【눅21:28 JFB】28. redemption—from the oppression of ecclesiastical despotism and legal bondage by the total subversion of the Jewish state and the firm establishment of the evangelical kingdom (Lu 21:31). But the words are of far wider and more precious import. Matthew (마24:30) says, "And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven," evidently something distinct from Himself, mentioned immediately after. What this was intended to mean, interpreters are not agreed. But as before Christ came to destroy Jerusalem, some appalling portents were seen in the air, so before His personal appearing it is likely that something analogous will be witnessed, though of what nature it is vain to conjecture.

 

【눅21:29 MHCC】Christ tells his disciples to observe the signs of the times, which they might judge by. He charges them to look upon the ruin of the Jewish nation as near. Yet this race and family of Abraham shall not be rooted out; it shall survive as a nation, and be found as prophesied, when the Son of man shall be revealed. He cautions them against being secure and sensual. This command is given to all Christ's disciples, Take heed to yourselves, that ye be not overpowered by temptations, nor betrayed by your own corruptions. We cannot be safe, if we are carnally secure. Our danger is, lest the day of death and of judgment should come upon us when we are not prepared. Lest, when we are called to meet our Lord, that be the furthest from our thoughts, which ought to be nearest our hearts. For so it will come upon the most of men, who dwell upon the earth, and mind earthly things only, and have no converse with heaven. It will be a terror and a destruction to them. Here see what should be our aim, that we may be accounted worthy to escape all those things; that when the judgements of God are abroad, we may not be in the common calamity, or it may not be that to us which it is to others. Do you ask how you may be found worthy to stand before Christ at that day? Those who never yet sought Christ, let them now go unto him; those who never yet were humbled for their sins, let them now begin; those who have already begun, let them go forward and be kept humbled. Watch therefore, and pray always. Watch against sin; watch in every duty, and make the most of every opportunity to do good. Pray always: those shall be accounted worthy to live a life of praise in the other world, who live a life of prayer in this world. May we begin, employ, and conclude each day attending to Christ's word, obeying his precepts, and following his example, that whenever he comes we may be found watching.

【눅21:36 JFB】36. Watch … pray, &c.—the two great duties which in prospect of trial are constantly enjoined. These warnings, suggested by the need of preparedness for the tremendous calamities approaching, and the total wreck of the existing state of things, are the general improvement of the whole discourse, carrying the mind forward to Judgment and Vengeance of another kind and on a grander and more awful scale—not ecclesiastical or political but personal, not temporal but eternal—when all safety and blessedness will be found to lie in being able to "STAND BEFORE THE Son of Man" in the glory of His personal appearing.
