■ 에스겔 37장

1. 여호와께서 권능으로 내게 임하시고 그 신으로 나를 데리고 가서 골짜기 가운데 두셨는데 거기 뼈가 가득하더라

  The hand of the Lord was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the Lord , and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones ,

  And caused me to pass by them round about : and, behold, there were very many in the open valley ; and, lo, they were very dry .

  And he said unto me, Son of man , can these bones live ? And I answered , O Lord God , thou knowest .

 

4. 또 내게 이르시되 너는 이 모든 뼈에게 대언하여 이르기를 너희 마른 뼈들아 여호와의 말씀을 들을지어다

  Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones , and say unto them, O ye dry bones , hear the word of the Lord .

 

5. 주 여호와께서 이 뼈들에게 말씀하시기를 내가 생기로 너희에게 들어가게 하리니 너희가 살리라

  Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones ; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live :

 

6. 너희 위에 힘줄을 두고 살을 입히고 가죽으로 덮고 너희 속에 생기를 두리니 너희가 살리라 또 나를 여호와인 줄 알리라 하셨다 하라

  And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin , and put breath in you, and ye shall live ; and ye shall know that I am the Lord .

 

7. 이에 내가 명을 좇아 대언하니 대언할 때에 소리가 나고 움직이더니 이 뼈, 저 뼈가 들어 맞아서 뼈들이 서로 연락하더라

  So I prophesied as I was commanded : and as I prophesied , there was a noise , and behold a shaking , and the bones came together , bone to his bone .

 

8. 내가 또 보니 그 뼈에 힘줄이 생기고 살이 오르며 그 위에 가죽이 덮이나 그 속에 생기는 없더라

  And when I beheld , lo, the sinews and the flesh came up upon them, and the skin covered them above : but there was no breath in them.

 

9. 또 내게 이르시되 인자야 너는 생기를 향하여 대언하라 생기에게 대언하여 이르기를 주 여호와의 말씀에 생기야 사방에서부터 와서 이 사망을 당한 자에게 불어서 살게 하라 하셨다 하라

  Then said he unto me, Prophesy unto the wind , prophesy , son of man , and say to the wind , Thus saith the Lord God ; Come from the four winds , O breath , and breathe upon these slain , that they may live .

 

10. 이에 내가 그 명대로 대언하였더니 생기가 그들에게 들어가매 그들이 곧 살아 일어나서 서는데 극히 큰 군대더라

  So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived , and stood up upon their feet , an exceeding great army .

 

11. 또 내게 이르시되 인자야 이 뼈들은 이스라엘 온 족속이라 그들이 이르기를 우리의 뼈들이 말랐고 우리의 소망이 없어졌으니 우리는 다 멸절되었다 하느니라

  Then he said unto me, Son of man , these bones are the whole house of Israel : behold, they say , Our bones are dried , and our hope is lost : we are cut off for our parts.

 

12. 그러므로 너는 대언하여 그들에게 이르기를 주 여호와의 말씀에 내 백성들아 내가 너희 무덤을 열고 너희로 거기서 나오게 하고 이스라엘 땅으로 들어가게 하리라

  Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God ; Behold, O my people , I will open your graves , and cause you to come up out of your graves , and bring you into the land of Israel .

 

13. 내 백성들아 내가 너희 무덤을 열고 너희로 거기서 나오게 한즉 너희가 나를 여호와인 줄 알리라

  And ye shall know that I am the Lord , when I have opened your graves , O my people , and brought you up out of your graves ,

 

14. 내가 또 내 신을 너희 속에 두어 너희로 살게 하고 내가 또 너희를 너희 고토에 거하게 하리니 나 여호와가 이 일을 말하고 이룬줄을 너희가 알리라 나 여호와의 말이니라 하셨다 하라

  And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live , and I shall place you in your own land : then shall ye know that I the Lord have spoken it, and performed it, saith the Lord .

 

15. 여호와의 말씀이 또 내게 임하여 가라사대

  The word of the Lord came again unto me, saying ,

 

16. 인자야 너는 막대기 하나를 취하여 그 위에 유다와 그 짝 이스라엘 자손이라 쓰고 또 다른 막대기 하나를 취하여 그 위에 에브라임의 막대기 곧 요셉과 그 짝 이스라엘 온 족속이라 쓰고

  Moreover, thou son of man , take thee one stick , and write upon it, For Judah , and for the children of Israel his companions : then take another stick , and write upon it, For Joseph , the stick of Ephraim , and for all the house of Israel his companions :

 

17. 그 막대기들을 서로 연합하여 하나가 되게 하라 네 손에서 둘이 하나가 되리라

  And join them one to another into one stick ; and they shall become one in thine hand .

 

18. 네 민족이 네게 말하여 이르기를 이것이 무슨 뜻인지 우리에게 고하지 아니하겠느냐 하거든

  And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying , Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?

 

19. 너는 곧 이르기를 주 여호와의 말씀에 내가 에브라임의 손에 있는바 요셉과 그 짝 이스라엘 지파들의 막대기를 취하여 유다의 막대기에 붙여서 한 막대기가 되게 한즉 내 손에서 하나가 되리라 하셨다 하고

  Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God ; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph , which is in the hand of Ephraim , and the tribes of Israel his fellows , and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah , and make them one stick , and they shall be one in mine hand .

 

20. 너는 그 글 쓴 막대기들을 무리의 목전에서 손에 잡고

  And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes .

 

21. 그들에게 이르기를 주 여호와의 말씀에 내가 이스라엘 자손을 그 간바 열국에서 취하며 그 사면에서 모아서 그 고토로 돌아가게 하고

  And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God ; Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the heathen , whither they be gone , and will gather them on every side , and bring them into their own land :

 

22. 그 땅 이스라엘 모든 산에서 그들로 한 나라를 이루어서 한 임금이 모두 다스리게 하리니 그들이 다시는 두 민족이 되지 아니하며 두 나라로 나누이지 아니할지라

  And I will make them one nation in the land upon the mountains of Israel ; and one king shall be king to them all: and they shall be no more two nations , neither shall they be divided into two kingdoms any more at all:

 

23. 그들이 그 우상들과 가증한 물건과 그 모든 죄악으로 스스로 더럽히지 아니하리라 내가 그들을 그 범죄한 모든 처소에서 구원하여 정결케 한즉 그들은 내 백성이 되고 나는 그들의 하나님이 되리라

  Neither shall they defile themselves any more with their idols , nor with their detestable things , nor with any of their transgressions : but I will save them out of all their dwellingplaces , wherein they have sinned , and will cleanse them: so shall they be my people , and I will be their God .

 

24. 내 조상 다윗이 그들의 왕이 되리니 그들에게 다 한 목자가 있을 것이라 그들이 내 규례를 준행하고 내 율례를 지켜 행하며

  And David my servant shall be king over them; and they all shall have one shepherd : they shall also walk in my judgments , and observe my statutes , and do them.

 

25. 내가 내 종 야곱에게 준 땅 곧 그 열조가 거하던 땅에 그들이 거하되 그들과 그 자자손손이 영원히 거기 거할 것이요 내 종 다윗이 영원히 그 왕이 되리라

  And they shall dwell in the land that I have given unto Jacob my servant , wherein your fathers have dwelt ; and they shall dwell therein, even they, and their children , and their children’s children for ever : and my servant David shall be their prince for ever .

 

26. 내가 그들과 화평의 언약을 세워서 영원한 언약이 되게 하고 또 그들을 견고하고 번성케 하며 내 성소를 그 가운데 세워서 영원히 이르게 하리니

  Moreover I will make a covenant of peace with them; it shall be an everlasting covenant with them: and I will place them, and multiply them, and will set my sanctuary in the midst of them for evermore .

 

27. 내 처소가 그들의 가운데 있을 것이며 나는 그들의 하나님이 되고 그들은 내 백성이 되리라

  My tabernacle also shall be with them: yea, I will be their God , and they shall be my people .

 

28. 내 성소가 영원토록 그들의 가운데 있으리니 열국이 나를 이스라엘을 거룩케 하는 여호와인 줄 알리라 하셨다 하라

  And the heathen shall know that I the Lord do sanctify Israel , when my sanctuary shall be in the midst of them for evermore .

【겔37:1 JFB】겔37:1-28. The Vision of Dry Bones Revivified, Symbolizing Israel's Death and Resurrection.
Three stages in Israel's revival present themselves to the prophet's eye. (1) The new awakening of the people, the resurrection of the dead (겔37:1-14). (2) The reunion of the formerly hostile members of the community, whose contentions had affected the whole (겔37:15-28). (3) The community thus restored is strong enough to withstand the assault of Gog, &c. (겔38:1-39:29) [Ewald].
1. carried … in the spirit—The matters transacted, therefore, were not literal, but in vision.
the valley—probably that by the Chebar (겔3:22). The valley represents Mesopotamia, the scene of Israel's sojourn in her state of national deadness.

 

【겔37:1 CWC】[BROKEN SILENCE]
Ezekiel's commission to his own countrymen is now renewed (21, 22), and evidences a new tone. "Heretofore his functions had been chiefly threatening, but now the evil having reached its worst in the overthrow of Jerusalem, the consolatory element preponderates." (See 22:11).
Verses 23-29 of the same chapter, have reference to the handful left in Jerusalem after the siege, the best commentary on which is Jeremiah 40-42. Verse 30 to the end describes conditions at Chebar. The last verse alludes to the news in verse 21. When they heard that report which took some time to reach them, they had reason to change their minds about the prophet and his work.
Many False Shepherds and the One True One. 34.
"The shepherds of Israel" (2), are not the prophets and priests so much (though they may be included), as the rulers -- kings, princes, judges. The indictment against them extends to verse 10, at which point encouragement and comfort is given to the scattered sheep, the people of Israel. The language corresponds with that of all the prophets, and points to the regathering of the nation in the latter times, and their restoration and blessing in the land again (11-22). This will synchronize with the second coming of the Messiah, here called "my servant David" (24) and "a plant of renown" (29). That millennial conditions are in mind is evidenced by verses 25-28. "Though a number of the people returned after the seventy years' captivity, and though they had a larger posterity in the land, yet they were continually under the Gentile yoke, until in A. D. 70, they were finally driven away again in a dispersion which still continues."
Judgment on Mount Seir or Edom. 35.
This is placed here by way of contrast with Israel's promised blessing. The Edomites, descendants of Esau, Jacob's brother, had treated their kin shamefully in the past (5), therefore, unlike them their desolations should be perpetual (9). Remember that it is only in their national character of foes to Israel that they are to be destroyed. God is always merciful to individuals who repent. "When the whole earth rejoices" (14), means Judah and the nations that submit themselves to her God.
Moral Restoration. 36.
It is always understood that the national restoration of Israel implies their moral restoration. They will repent and turn to the Lord before the promised blessings shall be poured out upon them. It is this moral restoration which is foretold here.
We have first restoration of the land (1-15), and then the people (35:16, 37:28). Verses 19-22, like those that follow, are spoken anticipatively. Observe God's motive for restoring them {22, 23). Observe the symbolic allusion to their moral regeneration (25-27, and that afterwards comes the material blessing. Many will have been gathered back to their land before the moral cleansing takes place, but the blessing will be withheld till then (28-38).
Valley of Dry Bones. 37.
In this chapter we have in symbol what the preceding foretold in plain language -- in other words what the prophet saw in vision. Verse 11 is the key to the chapter. The "bones" are the whole house of Israel on the earth at the time to which the prophecy refers, which is the beginning of the millennial age. The "graves" are the Gentile nations among which they shall be scattered. They shall be gathered out from among these nations back to their land (12). This will result in their conversion (13), after which they will be filled with the Holy Spirit (14). The two sticks (16) are Israel and Judah which shall again become one (17-27). Following this is a blessing on the whole earth (28). Compare 행15:16, 17.
Verse 8 indicates that the people will return to their land at first unconverted. "David my servant" (24) is generally understood of the Messiah. "The chapter, as a whole, presents a beautiful image of Christian faith, which believes in the coming general resurrection of the dead in the face of all appearances against it, because God has said it (요5:21; 롬4:17; 고후1:9)."

겔37:1-14 No created power could restore human bones to life. God alone could cause them to live. Skin and flesh covered them, and the wind was then told to blow upon these bodies; and they were restored to life. The wind was an emblem of the Spirit of God, and represented his quickening powers. The vision was to encourage the desponding Jews; to predict both their restoration after the captivity, and also their recovery from their present and long-continued dispersion. It was also a clear intimation of the resurrection of the dead; and it represents the power and grace of God, in the conversion of the most hopeless sinners to himself. Let us look to Him who will at last open our graves, and bring us forth to judgment, that He may now deliver us from sin, and put his Spirit within us, and keep us by his power, through faith, unto salvation.
 
겔37:15-28 This emblem was to show the people, that the Lord would unite Judah and Israel. Christ is the true David, Israel's King of old; and those whom he makes willing in the day of his power, he makes to walk in his judgments, and to keep his statutes. Events yet to come will further explain this prophecy. Nothing has more hindered the success of the gospel than divisions. Let us study to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace; let us seek for Divine grace to keep us from detestable things; and let us pray that all nations may be obedient and happy subjects of the Son of David, that the Lord may be our God, and we may be his people for evermore.

【겔37:3 JFB】3. can these bones live? … thou knowest—implying that, humanly speaking, they could not; but faith leaves the question of possibility to rest with God, with whom nothing is impossible (신32:39). An image of Christian faith which believes in the coming general resurrection of the dead, in spite of all appearances against it, because God has said it (요5:21; 롬4:17; 고후1:9).

 

【겔37:4 JFB】4. Prophesy—Proclaim God's quickening word to them. On account of this innate power of the divine word to effect its end, prophets are said to do that which they prophesy as about to be done (렘1:10).

 

【겔37:5 JFB】5. I … cause breath to enter into you—So 사26:19, containing the same vision, refers primarily to Israel's restoration. Compare as to God's renovation of the earth and all its creatures hereafter by His breath, 시104:30.
ye shall live—come to life again.

 

【겔37:6 JFB】6. ye shall know that I am the Lord—by the actual proof of My divinity which I will give in reviving Israel.

 

【겔37:7 JFB】7. noise—of the bones when coming in mutual collision. Perhaps referring to the decree of Cyrus, or the noise of the Jews' exultation at their deliverance and return.
bones came together—literally, "ye bones came together"; as in 렘49:11 (Hebrew), "ye widows of thine shall trust in Me." The second person puts the scene vividly before one's eyes, for the whole resurrection scene is a prophecy in action to render more palpably to the people the prophecy in word (겔37:21).

 

【겔37:8 JFB】8. So far, they were only cohering in order as unsightly skeletons. The next step, that of covering them successively with sinews, skin, and flesh, gives them beauty; but still "no breath" of life in them. This may imply that Israel hereafter, as at the restoration from Babylon was the case in part, shall return to Judea unconverted at first (Z전13:8, 9). Spiritually: a man may assume all the semblances of spiritual life, yet have none, and so be dead before God.

 

【겔37:9 JFB】9. wind—rather, the spirit of life or life-breath (Margin). For it is distinct from "the four winds" from which it is summoned.
from the four winds—implying that Israel is to be gathered from the four quarters of the earth (사43:5, 6; 렘31:8), even as they were "scattered into all the winds" (겔5:10; 12:14; 17:21; compare 계7:1, 4).

 

【겔37:10 JFB】10. Such honor God gives to the divine word, even in the mouth of a man. How much more when in the mouth of the Son of God! (요5:25-29). Though this chapter does not directly prove the resurrection of the dead, it does so indirectly; for it takes for granted the future fact as one recognized by believing Jews, and so made the image of their national restoration (so 사25:8; 26:19; 단12:2; 호6:2; 13:14; compare Note, see on 겔37:12).

 

【겔37:11 JFB】11. Our bones are dried—(시141:7), explained by "our hope is lost" (사49:14); our national state is as hopeless of resuscitation, as marrowless bones are of reanimation.
cut off for our parts—that is, so far as we are concerned. There is nothing in us to give hope, like a withered branch "cut off" from a tree, or a limb from the body.

 

【겔37:12 JFB】12. my people—in antithesis to "for our parts" (겔37:11). The hope that is utterly gone, if looking at themselves, is sure for them in God, because He regards them as His people. Their covenant relation to God ensures His not letting death permanently reign over them. Christ makes the same principle the ground on which the literal resurrection rests. God had said, "I am the God of Abraham," &c.; God, by taking the patriarchs as His, undertook to do for them all that Omnipotence can perform: He, being the ever living God, is necessarily the God of, not dead, but living persons, that is, of those whose bodies His covenant love binds Him to raise again. He can—and because He can—He will—He must [Fairbairn]. He calls them "My people" when receiving them into favor; but "thy people," in addressing His servant, as if He would put them away from Him (겔13:17; 33:2; 출32:7).
out of your graves—out of your politically dead state, primarily in Babylon, finally hereafter in all lands (compare 겔6:8; 호13:14). The Jews regarded the lands of their captivity and dispersion as their "graves"; their restoration was to be as "life from the dead" (롬11:15). Before, the bones were in the open plain (겔37:1, 2); now, in the graves, that is, some of the Jews were in the graves of actual captivity, others at large but dispersed. Both alike were nationally dead.

 

【겔37:16 JFB】16. stick—alluding to 민17:2, the tribal rod. The union of the two rods was a prophecy in action of the brotherly union which is to reunite the ten tribes and Judah. As their severance under Jeroboam was fraught with the greatest evil to the covenant-people, so the first result of both being joined by the spirit of life to God is that they become joined to one another under the one covenant King, Messiah-David.
Judah, and … children of Israel his companions—that is, Judah and, besides Benjamin and Levi, those who had joined themselves to him of Ephraim, Manasseh, Simeon, Asher, Zebulun, Issachar, as having the temple and lawful priesthood in his borders (대하11:12, 13, 16; 15:9; 30:11, 18). The latter became identified with Judah after the carrying away of the ten tribes, and returned with Judah from Babylon, and so shall be associated with that tribe at the future restoration.
For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim—Ephraim's posterity took the lead, not only of the other descendants of Joseph (compare 겔37:19), but of the ten tribes of Israel. For four hundred years, during the period of the judges, with Manasseh and Benjamin, its dependent tribes, it had formerly taken the lead: Shiloh was its religious capital; Shechem, its civil capital. God had transferred the birthright from Reuben (for dishonoring his father's bed) to Joseph, whose representative, Ephraim, though the younger, was made (창48:19; 대상5:1). From its pre-eminence "Israel" is attached to it as "companions." The "all" in this case, not in that of Judah, which has only attached as "companions" "the children of Israel" (that is, some of them, namely, those who followed the fortunes of Judah), implies that the bulk of the ten tribes did not return at the restoration from Babylon, but are distinct from Judah, until the coming union with it at the restoration.

 

【겔37:18 JFB】18. God does not explain the symbolical prophecy until the Jews have been stimulated by the type to consult the prophet.

 

【겔37:19 JFB】19. The union effected at the restoration from Babylon embraced but comparatively few of Israel; a future complete fulfilment must therefore be looked for.
stick of Joseph … in the hand of Ephraim—Ephraim, of the descendants of Joseph, had exercised the rule among the ten tribes: that rule, symbolized by the "stick," was now to be withdrawn from him, and to be made one with the other, Judah's rule, in God's hand.
them—the "stick of Joseph," would strictly require "it"; but Ezekiel expresses the sense, namely, the ten tribes who were subject to it.
with him—that is, Judah; or "it," that is, the stick of Judah.

 

【겔37:22 JFB】22. one nation—(사11:13; 렘3:18; 호1:11).
one king—not Zerubbabel, who was not a king either in fact or name, and who ruled over but a few Jews, and that only for a few years; whereas the King here reigns for ever. Messiah is meant (겔34:23, 24). The union of Judah and Israel under King Messiah symbolizes the union of Jews and Gentiles under Him, partly now, perfectly hereafter (겔37:24; 요10:16).

 

【겔37:23 JFB】23. (겔36:25).
out of … their dwelling-places—(겔36:28, 33). I will remove them from the scene of their idolatries to dwell in their own land, and to serve idols no more.

 

【겔37:24 JFB】24. David—Messiah (See on 겔34:23, 24).

 

【겔37:25 JFB】25. for ever—(사60:21; Joe 3:20; 암9:15).

 

【겔37:26 JFB】26. covenant of peace—better than the old legal covenant, because an unchangeable covenant of grace (겔34:25; 사55:3; 렘32:40).

my sanctuary—the temple of God; spiritual in the heart of all true followers of Messiah (고후6:16); and, in some literal sense, in the restored Israel (겔40:1-44:31).

 

【겔37:27 JFB】27. My tabernacle … with them—as foretold (창9:27); 요1:14, "The Word … dwelt among us" (literally, "tabernacled"); first, in humiliation; hereafter, in manifested glory (계21:3).
