■ 시편 25장

1. 다윗의 시 여호와여 나의 영혼이 주를 우러러 보나이다

  A Psalm of David . Unto thee, O Lord , do I lift up my soul .

 

2. 나의 하나님이여 내가 주께 의지하였사오니 나로 부끄럽지 않게 하시고 나의 원수로 나를 이기어 개가를 부르지 못하게 하소서

  O my God , I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed , let not mine enemies triumph over me.

 

3. 주를 바라는 자는 수치를 당하지 아니하려니와 무고히 속이는 자는 수치를 당하리이다

  Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed : let them be ashamed which transgress without cause .

 

4. 여호와여 주의 도를 내게 보이시고 주의 길을 내게 가르치소서

  Shew me thy ways , O Lord ; teach me thy paths .

 

5. 주의 진리로 나를 지도하시고 교훈하소서 주는 내 구원의 하나님이시니 내가 종일 주를 바라나이다

  Lead me in thy truth , and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation ; on thee do I wait all the day .

 

6. 여호와여 주의 긍휼하심과 인자하심이 영원부터 있었사오니 주여 이것을 기억하옵소서

  Remember , O Lord , thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses ; for they have been ever of old .

 

7. 여호와여 내 소시의 죄와 허물을 기억지 마시고 주의 인자하심을 따라 나를 기억하시되 주의 선하심을 인하여 하옵소서

  Remember not the sins of my youth , nor my transgressions : according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O Lord .

 

8. 여호와는 선하시고 정직하시니 그러므로 그 도로 죄인을 교훈하시리로다

  Good and upright is the Lord : therefore will he teach sinners in the way .

 

9. 온유한 자를 공의로 지도하심이여 온유한 자에게 그 도를 가르치시리로다

  The meek will he guide in judgment : and the meek will he teach his way .

 

10. 여호와의 모든 길은 그 언약과 증거를 지키는 자에게 인자와 진리로다

  All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies .

 

11. 여호와여 나의 죄악이 중대하오니 주의 이름을 인하여 사하소서

  For thy name’s sake, O Lord , pardon mine iniquity ; for it is great .

 

12. 여호와를 경외하는 자 누구뇨 그 택할 길을 저에게 가르치시리로다

  What man is he that feareth the Lord ? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose .

 

13. 저의 영혼은 평안히 거하고 그 자손은 땅을 상속하리로다

  His soul shall dwell at ease ; and his seed shall inherit the earth .

 

14. 여호와의 친밀함이 경외하는 자에게 있음이여 그 언약을 저희에게 보이시리로다

  The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant .

 

15. 내 눈이 항상 여호와를 앙망함은 내 발을 그물에서 벗어나게 하실 것임이로다

  Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord ; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net .

 

16. 주여 나는 외롭고 괴롭사오니 내게 돌이키사 나를 긍휼히 여기소서

  Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted .

 

17. 내 마음의 근심이 많사오니 나를 곤난에서 끌어 내소서

  The troubles of my heart are enlarged : O bring thou me out of my distresses .

 

18. 나의 곤고와 환난을 보시고 내 모든 죄를 사하소서

  Look upon mine affliction and my pain ; and forgive all my sins .

 

19. 내 원수를 보소서 저희가 많고 나를 심히 미워함이니이다

  Consider mine enemies ; for they are many ; and they hate me with cruel hatred .

 

20. 내 영혼을 지켜 나를 구원하소서 내가 주께 피하오니 수치를 당치 말게 하소서

  O keep my soul , and deliver me: let me not be ashamed ; for I put my trust in thee.

 

21. 내가 주를 바라오니 성실과 정직으로 나를 보호하소서

  Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.

 

22. 하나님이여 이스라엘을 그 모든 환난에서 구속하소서

  Redeem Israel , O God , out of all his troubles .

【시25:1 JFB】시25:1-22. The general tone of this Psalm is that of prayer for help from enemies. Distress, however, exciting a sense of sin, humble confession, supplication for pardon, preservation from sin, and divine guidance, are prominent topics.
1. lift up my soul—(시24:4; 86:4), set my affections (compare 골3:2).

 

【시25:1 CWC】Psalm 25.
In the Hebrew this prayer is arranged as an acrostic, i. e., the first word of each verse begins with a letter in alphabetical order from A to Z.
Hereafter we shall not give as much attention to every Psalm as we have thus far, but trust the reader to do the analyzing after the examples given.
The purpose of the Commentary is not so much textual explanation as a stimulus to Bible study in a broader sense, and it is assumed that the reader has been studying the Bible side by side with the Commentary from the beginning.
The more difficult Psalms, some of the more familiar and popular, and those distinctively Messianic and millennial may be treated more at length, but others must be passed over.
In the present instance the prayer is for defence (vv. 1-3), guidance (vv. 4, 5), forgiveness (vv. 6-11), etc., intermingled with testimony to the divine goodness (vv. 12-15).
Psalm 26.
Is another appeal to God on the basis of avowed integrity and innocence of the charges of enemies. Note the features of righteous character of which the psalmist speaks, as well as the description of his enemies. The Modern Reader's Bible names this Psalm, "Searchings of heart before worship."
Psalm 27.
Is called by the volume named above "An Anthem of Deliverance," and throughout it exhibits confidence, hope and joy, in God's worship, with prayer for help and guidance in danger. The secret of the psalmist's confidence is given in verse four as his delight in divine fellowship expressed in worshiping in God's tabernacle. God will protect and deliver him (vv. 5, 6). He will be more to him than earthly parents (v. 10). All he craves is guidance (v. 11). He concludes with counsel to others in a like case (vv. 13, 14).
Psalm 29.
"The Song of the Thunderstorm," encourages confidence in God by the celebration of His power in His dominion over the natural world. "Discovereth the forests" (v. 9) means "stripping them bare." In the midst of this sublimity God's worshipers cry, "Glory!" (R. V.)
Psalm 30.
States its occasion in the title, the reference being to David's own house or palace (compare 신20:5); 삼하5:11; 7:2).
Psalm 31.
Is a cry of one in distress, which some have referred to as the period of David's persecution by Saul at Keilah. Read 삼상23:1-15, and then note in the Psalm, verses 4, 8, 10-15, 20-22.
Psalm 32.
Reads like "David's Spiritual Biography." It is thought to have been written after his sin with Bath-sheba (2 Sam. 11, 12). He has been brought to repentance for that sin and forgiven (Psalm 51), and now is praising God for that forgiveness, and telling what led up to it. It opens with a general declaration of his blessedness and why (vv. 1, 2). This is followed by his experience before forgiveness and when he was undergoing conviction of sin (vv. 3, 4). Confession brought forgiveness (v. 5). Let others act similarly in the same circumstances (v. 6). See what God is to him now (v. 7). The Psalm takes the form of a dialogue at this point, and God speaks at verses eight and nine, which should be read in the Revised Version. The whole concludes with a warning and exhortation (vv. 10, 11).
Psalm 33.
Is one of praise. It opens with a general chorus (vv. 1-3). This is followed by a semi-chorus (vv. 4-11), a second semi-chorus (vv. 12-19), and a final chorus (vv. 20-22). To follow this division suggested by the Modern Reader's Bible, is to obtain a good idea of the several subjects.
Psalm 34.
Has its occasion indicated in the title which refers to 삼상21:13. The name there is Achish, but some think Abimelech was the general name given the sovereigns of Gath at that time (창20:2). This is also an acrostic, and from a musical point of view consists of an introduction (vv. 1, 2), solos and choruses. For one solo, see verses 3-6, and for another 11-14.
Psalm 35.
May be read in connection with 1 Samuel 24, which some regard as its occasion. A comparison of that chapter will throw light on the meaning of several of its expressions.
Psalm 37.
Is one of the most popular of the Psalms of trust and confidence, whose contents are illustrated in David's personal history. It is an acrostic, which requires little in the way of explanation to any heart who really knows God through Jesus Christ. The theme is the prosperity of the wicked with counsel as to how the child of God should act in regard to it.

 

【시25:1 MHCC】In worshipping God, we must lift up our souls to him. It is certain that none who, by a believing attendance, wait on God, and, by a believing hope, wait for him, shall be ashamed of it. The most advanced believer both needs and desires to be taught of God. If we sincerely desire to know our duty, with resolution to do it, we may be sure that God will direct us in it. The psalmist is earnest for the pardon of his sins. When God pardons sin, he is said to remember it no more, which denotes full remission. It is God's goodness, and not ours, his mercy, and not our merit, that must be our plea for the pardon of sin, and all the good we need. This plea we must rely upon, feeling our own unworthiness, and satisfied of the riches of God's mercy and grace. How boundless is that mercy which covers for ever the sins and follies of a youth spent without God and without hope! Blessed be the Lord, the blood of the great Sacrifice can wash away every stain.

 

【시25:2 JFB】2. not be ashamed—by disappointment of hopes of relief.

 

【시25:3 JFB】3. The prayer generalized as to all who wait on God—that is, who expect His favor. On the other hand, the disappointment of the perfidious, who, unprovoked, have done evil, is invoked (compare 삼하22:9).

 

【시25:4 JFB】4, 5. On the ground of former favor, he invokes divine guidance, according to God's gracious ways of dealing and faithfulness.

 

【시25:6 JFB】6, 7. Confessing past and present sins, he pleads for mercy, not on palliations of sin, but on God's well-known benevolence.

 

【시25:8 JFB】8, 9. upright—acting according to His promise.
sinners—the general term, limited by the
meek—who are penitent.
the way—and his way—God's way of providence.

 

【시25:8 MHCC】We are all sinners; and Christ came into the world to save sinners, to teach sinners, to call sinners to repentance. We value a promise by the character of him that makes it; we therefore depend upon God's promises. All the paths of the Lord, that is, all his promises and all his providences, are mercy and truth. In all God's dealings his people may see his mercy displayed, and his word fulfilled, whatever afflictions they are now exercised with. All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth; and so it will appear when they come to their journey's end. Those that are humble, that distrust themselves, and desire to be taught and to follow Divine guidance, these he will guide in judgment, that is, by the rule of the written word, to find rest for their souls in the Saviour. Even when the body is sick, and in pain, the soul may be at ease in God.

【시25:13 JFB】13. inherit the earth—(compare 마5:5). The phrase, alluding to the promise of Canaan, expresses all the blessings included in that promise, temporal as well as spiritual.

 

【시25:14 JFB】14. The reason of the blessing explained—the pious enjoy communion with God (compare 잠3:21, 12), and, of course, learn His gracious terms of pardon.

 

【시25:15 JFB】15. His trust in God is fixed.
net—is frequently used as a figure for dangers by enemies (시9:15; 10:9).

 

【시25:15 MHCC】The psalmist concludes, as he began, with expressing dependence upon God, and desire toward him. It is good thus to hope, and quietly to wait for the salvation of the Lord. And if God turns to us, no matter who turns from us. He pleads his own integrity. Though guilty before God, yet, as to his enemies, he had the testimony of conscience that he had done them no wrong. God would, at length, give Israel rest from all their enemies round about. In heaven, God's Israel will be perfectly redeemed from all troubles. Blessed Saviour, thou hast graciously taught us that without thee we can do nothing. Do thou teach us how to pray, how to appear before thee in the way which thou shalt choose, and how to lift up our whole hearts and desires after thee, for thou art the Lord our righteousness.

 

【시25:16 JFB】16-19. A series of earnest appeals for aid because God had seemed to desert him (compare 시13:1; 17:13, &c.), his sins oppressed him, his enemies had enlarged his troubles and were multiplied, increasing in hate and violence (시9:8; 18:48).

 

【시25:20 JFB】20. keep my soul—(시16:1).
put my trust—flee for refuge (시2:12).

 

【시25:21 JFB】21. In conscious innocence of the faults charged by his enemies, he confidently commits his cause to God. Some refer—
integrity, &c.—to God, meaning His covenant faithfulness. This sense, though good, is an unusual application of the terms.
