■ 예레미야애가 2장

1. 슬프다 주께서 어찌 그리 진노하사 처녀 시온을 구름으로 덮으셨는고 이스라엘의 아름다운 것을 하늘에서 땅에 던지셨음이여 진노하신 날에 그 발등상을 기억지 아니하셨도다

  How hath the Lord covered the daughter of Zion with a cloud in his anger , and cast down from heaven unto the earth the beauty of Israel , and remembered not his footstool in the day of his anger !

 

2. 주께서 야곱의 모든 거처를 삼키시고 긍휼히 여기지 아니하셨음이여 노하사 처녀 유다의 견고한 성을 헐어 땅에 엎으시고 나라와 방백으로 욕되게 하셨도다

  The Lord hath swallowed up all the habitations of Jacob , and hath not pitied : he hath thrown down in his wrath the strong holds of the daughter of Judah ; he hath brought them down to the ground : he hath polluted the kingdom and the princes thereof.

 

3. 맹렬한 진노로 이스라엘 모든 뿔을 자르셨음이여 원수 앞에서 오른손을 거두시고 맹렬한 불이 사방으로 사름 같이 야곱을 사르셨도다

  He hath cut off in his fierce anger all the horn of Israel : he hath drawn back his right hand from before the enemy , and he burned against Jacob like a flaming fire , which devoureth round about .

 

4. 원수 같이 활을 당기고 대적처럼 오른손을 들고 서서 눈에 아름다운 모든 자를 살륙하셨음이여 처녀 시온의 장막에 노를 불처럼 쏟으셨도다

  He hath bent his bow like an enemy : he stood with his right hand as an adversary , and slew all that were pleasant to the eye in the tabernacle of the daughter of Zion : he poured out his fury like fire .

 

5. 주께서 원수 같이 되어 이스라엘을 삼키셨음이여 모든 궁을 삼키셨고 견고한 성들을 훼파하사 처녀 유다에 근심과 애통을 더하셨도다

  The Lord was as an enemy : he hath swallowed up Israel , he hath swallowed up all her palaces : he hath destroyed his strong holds , and hath increased in the daughter of Judah mourning and lamentation .

 

6. 성막을 동산의 초막 같이 헐어 버리시며 공회 처소를 훼파하셨도다 여호와께서 시온 가운데서 절기와 안식일을 잊어버리게 하시며 진노하사 왕과 제사장을 멸시하셨도다

  And he hath violently taken away his tabernacle , as if it were of a garden : he hath destroyed his places of the assembly : the Lord hath caused the solemn feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion , and hath despised in the indignation of his anger the king and the priest .

 

7. 여호와께서 또 자기 제단을 버리시며 자기 성소를 미워하시며 궁장을 원수의 손에 붙이셨으매 저희가 여호와의 전에서 훤화하기를 절기날과 같이 하였도다

  The Lord hath cast off his altar , he hath abhorred his sanctuary , he hath given up into the hand of the enemy the walls of her palaces ; they have made a noise in the house of the Lord , as in the day of a solemn feast .

 

8. 여호와께서 처녀 시온의 성을 헐기로 결심하시고 줄을 띠고 훼파함에서 손을 거두지 아니하사 성과 곽으로 통곡하게 하셨으매 저희가 함께 쇠하였도다

  The Lord hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Zion : he hath stretched out a line , he hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying : therefore he made the rampart and the wall to lament ; they languished together .

 

9. 성문이 땅에 묻히며 빗장이 꺾여 훼파되고 왕과 방백들이 율법없는 열방 가운데 있으며 그 선지자들은 여호와의 묵시를 받지 못하는도다

  Her gates are sunk into the ground ; he hath destroyed and broken her bars : her king and her princes are among the Gentiles : the law is no more; her prophets also find no vision from the Lord .

 

10. 처녀 시온의 장로들이 땅에 앉아 잠잠하고 티끌을 머리에 무릅쓰고 굵은 베를 허리에 둘렀음이여 예루살렘 처녀들은 머리를 땅에 숙였도다

  The elders of the daughter of Zion sit upon the ground , and keep silence : they have cast up dust upon their heads ; they have girded themselves with sackcloth : the virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground .

 

11. 내 눈이 눈물에 상하며 내 창자가 끓으며 내 간이 땅에 쏟아졌으니 이는 처녀 내 백성이 패망하여 어린 자녀와 젖먹는 아이들이 성읍 길거리에 혼미함이로다

  Mine eyes do fail with tears , my bowels are troubled , my liver is poured upon the earth , for the destruction of the daughter of my people ; because the children and the sucklings swoon in the streets of the city .

 

12. 저희가 성읍 길거리에서 상한 자처럼 혼미하여 그 어미의 품에서 혼이 떠날 때에 어미에게 이르기를 곡식과 포도주가 어디 있느뇨 하도다

  They say to their mothers , Where is corn and wine ? when they swooned as the wounded in the streets of the city , when their soul was poured out into their mothers’ bosom .

 

13. 처녀 예루살렘이여 내가 무엇으로 네게 증거하며 무엇으로 네게 비유할꼬 처녀 시온이여 내가 무엇으로 네게 비교하여 너를 위로할꼬 너의 파괴됨이 바다 같이 크니 누가 너를 고칠소냐

  What thing shall I take to witness for thee? what thing shall I liken to thee, O daughter of Jerusalem ? what shall I equal to thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion ? for thy breach is great like the sea : who can heal thee?

 

14. 네 선지자들이 네게 대하여 헛되고 어리석은 묵시를 보았으므로 네 죄악을 드러내어서 네 사로잡힌 것을 돌이키지 못하였도다 저희가 거짓 경고와 미혹케 할 것만 보았도다

  Thy prophets have seen vain and foolish things for thee: and they have not discovered thine iniquity , to turn away thy captivity ; but have seen for thee false burdens and causes of banishment .

 

15. 무릇 지나가는 자는 다 너를 향하여 박장하며 처녀 예루살렘을 향하여 비소하고 머리를 흔들며 말하기를 온전한 영광이라, 천하의 희락이라 일컫던 성이 이 성이냐 하며

  All that pass by clap their hands at thee ; they hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem , saying, Is this the city that men call The perfection of beauty , The joy of the whole earth ?

 

16. 너의 모든 원수는 너를 향하여 입을 벌리며 비소하고 이를 갈며 말하기를 우리가 저를 삼켰도다 우리가 바라던 날이 과연 이 날이라 우리가 얻기도 하고 보기도 하였다 하도다

  All thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and gnash the teeth : they say , We have swallowed her up : certainly this is the day that we looked for ; we have found , we have seen it.

 

17. 여호와께서 이미 정하신 일을 행하시고 옛날에 명하신 말씀을 다 이루셨음이여 긍휼히 여기지 아니하시고 훼파하사 원수로 너를 인하여 즐거워하게 하며 너의 대적의 뿔로 높이 들리게 하셨도다

  The Lord hath done that which he had devised ; he hath fulfilled his word that he had commanded in the days of old : he hath thrown down , and hath not pitied : and he hath caused thine enemy to rejoice over thee, he hath set up the horn of thine adversaries .

 

18. 저희 마음이 주를 향하여 부르짖기를 처녀 시온의 성곽아 너는 밤낮으로 눈물을 강처럼 흘릴지어다 스스로 쉬지 말고 네 눈동자로 쉬게 하지 말지어다

  Their heart cried unto the Lord , O wall of the daughter of Zion , let tears run down like a river day and night : give thyself no rest ; let not the apple of thine eye cease .

 

19. 밤 초경에 일어나 부르짖을지어다 네 마음을 주의 얼굴 앞에 물 쏟듯 할지어다 각 길머리에서 주려 혼미한 네 어린 자녀의 생명을 위하여 주를 향하여 손을 들지어다 하였도다

  Arise , cry out in the night : in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord : lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children , that faint for hunger in the top of every street .

 

20. 여호와여 감찰하소서 뉘게 이같이 행하셨는지요 여인들이 어찌 자기 열매 곧 손에 받든 아이를 먹으오며 제사장들과 선지자들이 어찌 주의 성소에서 살륙을 당하오리이까

  Behold , O Lord , and consider to whom thou hast done this . Shall the women eat their fruit , and children of a span long ? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord ?

 

21. 노유는 다 길바닥에 엎드러졌사오며 내 처녀들과 소년들이 칼에 죽었나이다 주께서 진노하신 날에 죽이시되 긍휼히 여기지 아니하시고 살륙하셨나이다

  The young and the old lie on the ground in the streets : my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword ; thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger ; thou hast killed , and not pitied .

 

22. 주께서 내 두려운 일을 사방에서 부르시기를 절기에 무리를 부름 같이 하셨나이다 여호와께서 진노하신 날에 피하거나 남은 자가 없었나이다 내 손에 받들어 기르는 자를 내 원수가 다 멸하였나이다

  Thou hast called as in a solemn day my terrors round about , so that in the day of the Lord’s anger none escaped nor remained : those that I have swaddled and brought up hath mine enemy consumed .

Aleph.
1. How—The title of the collection repeated here, and in 애4:1.
covered … with a cloud—that is, with the darkness of ignominy.
cast down from heaven unto … earth—(마11:23); dashed down from the highest prosperity to the lowest misery.
beauty of Israel—the beautiful temple (시29:2; 74:7; 96:9, Margin;사60:7; 64:11).
his footstool—the ark (compare 대상28:2, with 시99:5; 132:7). They once had gloried more in the ark than in the God whose symbol it was; they now feel it was but His "footstool," yet that it had been a great glory to them that God deigned to use it as such.

 

【애2:1 CWC】"The touching significance of this book lies in the fact that it is the disclosure of the love and sorrow of Jehovah for the very people He is chastening -- a sorrow wrought by the Spirit in the heart of Jeremiah. Compare 렘13:7; 마23:36-38: 롬9:1-5." -- Scofield Reference Bible.
"As regards its external structure, the composition of the book, both as a whole and in its several parts, is so artistic, that anything like it can hardly be found in any other book of Holy Scriptures." -- Lange's Commentary.
In the first place it contains just five songs, each limited to a single chapter. In the second place, there is a marked climax in the third song, with an ascent and a descent, a crescendo and decrescendo movement before and after it. About the middle of this song at verse eighteen, the prophet seems to have reached the deepest night of his misery, "but where the exigency is greatest, help is nearest. The night is succeeded by the morning (vv. 19-21), and with verse 22 breaks the full day."
Each of the songs contains 22 verses according to the number of letters in the Hebrew alphabet; in other words, it is an acrostic -- a favorite form of Hebrew poetry. But In the third song each verse is divided into three members making in our English setting 66 verses. Other of its poetical features we can not dwell upon.
Analysis of the Chapters.
In chapter 1 the lament is over the ruin of Jerusalem and Judah, and is divided into two parts of equal length. The first is a description of the city, and the second the lamentation strictly considered. In both the speaker is the prophet himself (or an ideal person like the daughter of Zion, for example).
In chapter 2, the lament is over the destruction of the city, which is described and attributed to Jehovah. This also is in two nearly even sections. Verses 1-10 describe the judgment; verses 12-22 is the lamentation proper.
In chapter 3 is the climax where Israel's brighter day is contrasted with the gloomy night of sorrow experienced by the prophet himself. There are three parts in this chapter, divided as follows: Verses 1-18, 19-42, 43-66.
In chapter 4, Zion's guilt and punishment are described, the whole consisting of four parts which will be readily distinguished as verses 1-6; 7-11; 12-16; 17-22.
In chapter 5, the distress and hope of the prisoners and fugitives are expressed in the form of a prayer. Here the author lets the people speak, not as an ideal person but in the first person plural as a concrete multitude. There is an introduction (v. 1), two principal parts, verses 2-7 and 8-16, and a conclusion, verses 17-22.

Golden Texts.
There are some richly laden verses in this beautiful book, full of comfort and instruction for the saint and of homiletic value to the preacher. We indicate a few: 1:12; 1:16; 2:13; 2:14; 3:21-26; 3:31-33; 3:37; 3:39-41; 5:7; 5:16-17; 5:21.

 

【애2:1 MHCC】 Lamentation for the misery of Jerusalem.
 
애2:1-9 A sad representation is here made of the state of God's church, of Jacob and Israel; but the notice seems mostly to refer to the hand of the Lord in their calamities. Yet God is not an enemy to his people, when he is angry with them and corrects them. And gates and bars stand in no stead when God withdraws his protection. It is just with God to cast down those by judgments, who debase themselves by sin; and to deprive those of the benefit and comfort of sabbaths and ordinances, who have not duly valued nor observed them. What should they do with Bibles, who make no improvement of them? Those who misuse God's prophets, justly lose them. It becomes necessary, though painful, to turn the thoughts of the afflicted to the hand of God lifted up against them, and to their sins as the source of their miseries.
 
애2:10-22 Causes for lamentation are described. Multitudes perished by famine. Even little children were slain by their mother's hands, and eaten, according to the threatening, 신28:53. Multitudes fell by the sword. Their false prophets deceived them. And their neighbours laughed at them. It is a great sin to jest at others' miseries, and adds much affliction to the afflicted. Their enemies triumphed over them. The enemies of the church are apt to take its shocks for its ruins; but they will find themselves deceived. Calls to lamentation are given; and comforts for the cure of these lamentations are sought. Prayer is a salve for every sore, even the sorest; a remedy for every malady, even the most grievous. Our business in prayer is to refer our case to the Lord, and leave it with him. His will be done. Let us fear God, and walk humbly before him, and take heed lest we fall.

3. horn—worn in the East as an ornament on the forehead, and an emblem of power and majesty (삼상2:10; 시132:17; see on 렘48:25).
drawn back … fight hand—(시74:11). God has withdrawn the help which He before gave them. Not as Henderson, "He has turned back his (Israel's) right hand" (시89:43).

 

【애2:4 JFB】Daleth.
4. (사63:10).
stood with … right hand—He took His stand so as to use His right hand as an adversary. Henderson makes the image to be that of an archer steadying his right hand to take aim. Not only did He withdraw His help, but also took arms against Israel.
all … pleasant to … eye—(겔24:25). All that were conspicuous for youth, beauty, and rank.
in … tabernacle—the dwellings of Jerusalem.

5. an enemy—(렘30:14).
mourning and lamentation—There is a play of similar sounds in the original, "sorrow and sadness," to heighten the effect (욥30:3, Hebrew;겔35:3, Margin).

6. tabernacle—rather, "He hath violently taken away His hedge (the hedge of the place sacred to Him, 시80:12; 89:40; 사5:5), as that of a garden" [Maurer]. Calvin supports English Version, "His tabernacle (that is, temple) as (one would take away the temporary cottage or booth) of a garden." 사1:8 accords with this (욥27:18).

8. stretched … a line—The Easterns used a measuring-line not merely in building, but in destroying edifices (왕하21:13; 사34:11); implying here the unsparing rigidness with which He would exact punishment.

9. Her gates cannot oppose the entrance of the foe into the city, for they are sunk under a mass of rubbish and earth.
broken … bars—(렘51:30).
her king … among … Gentiles—(신28:36).
law … no more—(대하15:3). The civil and religious laws were one under the theocracy. "All the legal ordinances (prophetical as well as priestly) of the theocracy, are no more" (시74:9; 겔7:26).

The "liver," is here put for the bile ("gall," 욥16:13; "bowels," 시22:14) in a bladder on the surface of the liver, copiously discharged when the passions are agitated.
swoon—through faintness from the effects of hunger.

soul … poured … into … mothers bosom—Instinctively turning to their mother's bosom, but finding no milk there, they breathe out their life as it were "into her bosom."

13. What thing shall I take to witness—What can I bring forward as a witness, or instance, to prove that others have sustained as grievous ills as thou? I cannot console thee as mourners are often consoled by showing that thy lot is only what others, too, suffer. The "sea" affords the only suitable emblem of thy woes, by its boundless extent and depth (애1:12; 단9:12).

vain … for thee—to gratify thy appetite, not for truth, but for false things.
not discovered thine iniquity—in opposition to God's command to the true prophets (사58:1). Literally, "They have not taken off (the veil) which was on thine iniquity, so as to set it before thee."
burdens—Their prophecies were soothing and flattering; but the result of them was heavy calamities to the people, worse than even what the prophecies of Jeremiah, which they in derision called "burdens," threatened. Hence he terms their pretended prophecies "false burdens," which proved to the Jews "causes of their banishment" [Calvin].

17. Lord—Let not the foe exult as if it was their doing. It was "the Lord" who thus fulfilled the threats uttered by His prophets for the guilt of Judea (레26:16-25; 신28:36-48, 53; 렘19:9).

18. wall—(애2:8). Personified. "Their heart," that is, the Jews'; while their heart is lifted up to the Lord in prayer, their speech is addressed to the "wall" (the part being put for the whole city).
let tears, &c.—(렘14:17). The wall is called on to weep for its own ruin and that of the city. Compare the similar personification (애1:4).
apple—the pupil of the eye (시17:8).

19. cry … in … night—(시119:147).
beginning of … watches—that is, the first of the three equal divisions (four hours each) into which the ancient Jews divided the night; namely, from sunset to ten o'clock. The second was called "the middle watch" (유7:19), from ten till two o'clock. The third, "the morning watch," from two to sunrise (출14:24; 삼상11:11). Afterwards, under the Romans, they had four watches (마14:25; Lu 12:38).
for … thy … children—that God, if He will not spare thee, may at least preserve "thy young children."
